My fond memory is riding around the lake, summertime windows down passing a car on a long sweeping curve to left as my buddy's built hi-po 289 in '65 Mustang wound out 3rd gear to 7,000 on his tach.
Yep. It definitely sounds sweet, but I'm pretty sure it has way more to do with the exhaust system, than it being a ford. A tuned length 8 into one will make any brand sound like it's revving much harder than it actually is. And make gains in power too. What's not to like?
Agreed on the 8 into 1, but this isn't one of them. This is conventional long tube headers into an X merge and twin 3" sidepipes. The 13726548 firing order has a lot to do with it really, Ford have gone backwards putting the old flathead firing order in the Coyote and newly released Godzilla, IMO. It's never going to sound like this, some people might like it more, so each to their own.👍
@@Mr357Cleveland fair enough. Not here to argue mate, but the ridulous firing order of holden V8 with the "thiong slap" cackle is easily corrected by using the single outlet method. Just saying.
@Buzz.Scholz-vi1ed No argument here, I agree with what you're saying. I honestly think that most V8's sound best with a single system, it's always been hard to get a big enough pipe under the floor with a single, especially with big output engines. A single system scavenges better too, a bit like the 8 into 1 set ups. Holden 308's with a big cam, high compression and the early heads can sound awesome with the right exhaust, they're the best sounding GM engine I've heard. Their firing order works great too.👌
Oh, but I have. I can hear the gears whine a little sometimes on my bike. Most of the time, it’s *very* quiet. Just what’s wished for on an early-AM grocery-and-bills run like I did yesterday. Brrrrr, cold! Now, I need to get to plotting and saving for a new *battery.* The current one seems to be losing ground, and I’d like a bigger one anyway.
I'm not sure what exhaust system this car is using, but regardless, it sounds like a V16 (I know it might seem like an exaggeration, but to me it sounds a little similar to a BRM Type 15 running in the distance).
It's fairly sharp sweeper at 140mph in an early 'Stang. It's just neutral throttle through there until it straightens out. Edit* A change of racing rubber lowered the gearing enough on that trip to tickle the rev limiter in top gear too. That's been sorted since. Cheers.
Uh, the 302? (Supposedly those can turn 8 if they’re worked on. They had them in 1969-70.) That said, this kind of noise - *the F.O.R.D. sound* - has made me a believer. “Ford in Flivver, spinning fast and going faster still!”
One of the reasons I love the American LeMans Series (or whatever sponsor they named it after about 10 years ago), is that you got to hear the ripping silk of V12 Ferraris, the brutal boom of the V8 Corvettes, and the sweet sweet sound of the flat 6 Porsches.
The Car was geared perfectly for this circuit, but a change to a slick with a lower profile was enough to make it tag the limiter on the back straight. It's been fixed now, along with a lot of other stuff.👍
I like my "bowties", but nothing sounds as good as a healthy Ford.
Bowtie man myself...nothing sounds as good as an American V8!
Idk man the C6 Z06 can compete with this imo
I think we can all agree older V8s sound better.
Negative ghost rider...nothing..I mean nothing sounds like healthy Mopar !!!!!
@@mr.sir0173as someone who likes corvettes myself especially the c6 z06 I disagree
Sound like an 8 into 1 header. SBFs always sound great above 5000.
Even my mildly built 289 would rev to 8200 rpm and damn! It sounded good!
Always loved the scream of a small block Ford.
I could listen to this all day, every day.

I’m a fan of straight 6’s, but that ford V8 got me wanting to buy one!
@@Farahcarrera I don't mind a good straight six, myself. Cheers.
Yes, I know. Seems Bob was onto something when he spoke of these things.
What RPM is it turning... sounds wicked
G'day Ramon, 7600 rpm mate. It sounds so bloody good in person that it gives you goosebumps!👍
@@Mr357Cleveland I'm sure!!!
That is simply glorious
When an American V8 engine revives like it was just a Japanese liter bike‘s 🇺🇸💪🫡
It does sound good.

This is the F.O.R.D. sound!
I NEED a build list on that engine! I want to build one so bad.
Id love to hear that DOHC v8 ford engine from the 60s
The Cosworth? The 427/7.0L was single OHC, but still was banned by NASCAR in America.
I think this was the one developed for Indy.
It had some spins, it did.
Sounds quite a bit above 8000 rpm!
It's the sound of an unrestricted 289 with equal length headers. Different world in terms of sound.
And an X-pipe.
Wish I could have learned about this kind of glorious noise when I was younger, as I would have worked hard to get into one of *these!*
You ain't heard nothing until you have heard an electric rev up its engine.
Groundpounders

It's a 289.👍
The mustang at symmons tas?
That's right, coming through the sweeper there.👍
@@Mr357Cleveland 👍
THAT is some serious rpm
What camshaft was used in this build
@Tylernunz not my engine, and I'm not sure of the specs. It's a solid roller though, very strong over 4k.👍
Did it just run out of gear on the straight?

SOUNDED MORE LIKE A BRM
FYeah!
Yeah it's ok but nothing beats the chop of any 1960's big block.
I like Big blocks, but I've never heard one sound as good as this thing having it's neck rung, ever. Happy for you to post a link to one that does?👍
True. These are a handful.
Not only is it howling, it's also hitting 8,000 rpm. At least. Try that in a Chevy

the BRM V16 sounds like it.
You beat me to it!
And that is why EV racing will never be a fan favorite!
What if we give extra points for putting on a show, lights and sound? Maybe make them play a sound based on the motor voltage, current and RPM?
Imagine it battery powered 🤣🤣🤣
I hear something where's the car
Gotta be 9500 rpm
Then why do B* road cars sound like dead tractors, even the performance ones ?
V-10 or v-12. Only way to go. I’ll,take v-12
There's nothing wrong with either, but I've heard plenty of both that wouldn't hold a candle to this cast iron, inline valve 289.👍

289W. Awesome!
