Okay Boys, I have a challenge for you, that is if you even read these posts. I have a 1991 Ford f-150 that I have had since 1997 I have never upgraded the engine in anyway shape and or form until this month. I'm a Ford guy and this engine wouldn't be a bad street performer but the 302 Ford can make alot more than that. I would love to go on there and show them how to make 450 hp from a 302.
They did a 347" SBF not so long ago and at the 500HP mark they had to go to an aftermarket block so would have made more sense for them to use a 351W based engine if you wanted stock for stock, they would have made over 400HP easily and had more torque to back up the HP. they said the EFI will handle more which is great but if you wanted to do turbo or supercharger then the block becomes the weak link at .060" over i'd pass and used the stock crankshaft another cringe. you can do all of this stuff but does it make sense when your whole foundation for your house is made of popsicle sticks and gorilla glue?

I've always wanted to build a modernized short deck Clevor. Port fuel injection, coil near plug ignition, the works. See if I could go inch for inch with a Coyote.
Love the show! I don't mean this derogatory to you guys. But all I learned from this video is that those performer RPM heads are way out of date and left behind by newer head designs. Pretty much any flat top short block, AFR 185 renegades or trick flow twisted wedge 170 11rs with a comp XE274 HR will make like 430 with a dual plane and simple carb or 450 to 460 with a single plane and 7k RPM. That is just the typical 302 inch small block ford on the street these days, times have changed! I've never seen one done up with nice heads and as fancy of a top end as y'all use. But my guess is it would be pretty epic. I've got one myself with 185 renegades and a dual plane and it straight up rips. That head choice killed the build. The modern head technology is amazing.
That's pretty standard for that level of build on a 302. My dad had a 302 in his drag car for a while and it probably made just over 300hp on motor. It was built for nitrous though so it really woke up when you sprayed it. It would tote the front tires past the 60 foot mark. I don't remember if it was bored .030" over or not. You really can't get more than 600hp out of a stock 302 block before they split in the valley. After the 302 he went to a 351 Windsor bored to the max and ended up around 460ci. That was a nasty motor. I don't know that I would have went with a Holley hi ram intake for a street application. They really make power at the top end and you give up a lot of low end which is better for street applications. On an LS, the standard truck intake beats pretty much all of the high dollar intakes on the low end. The Holley looks cool though.
Seems like a bit of a mismatch, all great high-quality namebrand parts. But those heads are much more suited for a torquey street engine but the cam and intake system for more of a higher RPM Street strip car. With a nice dual plain air gap intake I believe you could’ve got very close to the same HP and had tons more down low, where you use it on the street. And where those heads are much more comfortable. The induction system would have worked much better with better flowing heads.
yeah just a little 302 if it was a 302 like in the modern mustang it could cuz 4 overhead cam and 4 valve per cylinder! but pretty sure a 351 or a stroker version would get over 600hp easy peezy with the same setup!
I used to have a 94 Thunderbird LX V8 I loved. I'd love to find another one and put this engine in it. Should be a fairly easy swap since the earlier ones came with 302's as well (but I don't like the interiors in the pre-94 models)
I’d happy give your motor a nice home. I’ve located an old Falcon that super clean. The guy who has it tried swapping over to front disc brakes, and couldn’t find anything that would work. I think there’s got to be something available for that. The other thing he did was to put an AMC rear end in it, and I’m not sure that’s the best option. I’d rather have a 9” or 8.8” with rear disc brakes.
.060 over! What year is that block? Still running a 594 roller 289 I put together in the 80s. The SB genius at Kirn auto in St Louis, now closed like many shops, took old 70 351 heads, took .040 off, uses Chevy stainless valves he trimed down, 1.64 and 1.90 and did a porting job that rivals today's heads, ported the Edelbrock torker to match, all crower valve train parts, At 10/1 he figured it's around 400+, even has header evac, boss oil pan and windage tray for higher revs. Have a 77 302sb from a 150 that's waiting to be built into?, have a steel boss 302 custom drilled, lightened knife edged crank for a healthy SB to spin things. My old 68 Cougar was reinforced during restoration for some serious torque. Wrinkles the tires as is, they are angry lil engines!
Oh that would fit beautifully in my 98 ranger project truck. I planned a 4th Gen hemi swap with the holly efi setup you guys used for the 5.7 hemi build and a pair of Garrett or precision turbos in the bed but winning this would be a game changer 😆

I used to have a 94 Thunderbird LX V8 I loved. I'd love to find another one and put this engine in it. Should be a fairly easy swap since the earlier ones came with 302's as well (but I don't like the interiors in the pre-94 models)
Aluminum and stainless causes galvanic corrosion that means the timing cover, intake valve covers will be trash in a few years!🙃
Rev limit needed to be set higher. It was still gaining.
Pat Topolinski has killed this show. Bring back Joe Elmore
That engine looks
sooooo good I nearly pissed my pants pure autoporn.👍🇭🇲 Id love to see a barra too.👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Nice little motor guys! Would be great in my lightweight Mustang notch back!
Give that thing some RPM!
Nice 302 i want that 351c though in my 80 model ford 150 4x4
this in my zephyr on my channel would be PERFECT. ENTERED!! already have an 91 GT 8.8 with 4.10s and SN 95 spindles and SF connectors ready to go in.
How many POUNDS OF FEET torque !!! Efen rookies !!!
Oh that would fit beautifully in my 98 ranger project truck. I planned a 4th Gen hemi swap with the holly efi setup you guys used for the 5.7 hemi build and a pair of Garrett or precision turbos in the bed but winning this would be a game changer 😆
I’d love to have that 300 6 sittin in the back
When are Pat and Frankie going to accept a real challenge and stuff a 4.5" 460 stroker crank in to a 430MEL V8?
couldn't concentrate, wow. The dad jokes are real.
@@bigboreracing356 nice 😆
That would be sweet if it was mine been trying too get my foxbody to run good again
That engine would be perfect in my 93 F150 4x4, it’s very similar to the one in my Foxbody besides the holley equipment
I have a cobra motor in my 94 f150. Its pretty sweet.
For a fox chassis you really need a side entry top for the high ram.
get a different hood lol
I’ve heard and read mixed thoughts on boring a 302 out to 60 thou After watching this video with the professionals doing it I need someone to shed some light
