      My doctor prescribed me Ketoconazole shampoo. Almost completely gets rid of it for me if I stay on top of it . Had this problem for years after alot of stress from divorce , loss of my Dad an close friends suicide at the same time. Many times when it would flare up it could kinda painful . My skin really doesn't react well to sunscreen now , before had no problems . Tried many over the counter things like dandruff shampoos an eczema creams didn't help much at all. Another kicker is when I 100% quit drinking it came around full force . Maybe this might help somebody .

      Update!: I started leaving my 2 in 1 head and shoulders on my hair and face for as long as I could (it starts to get a little "tingly" after it starts to dry up, so I wash it off) and it totally cleared up my dermatitis. Like completely. My right eye in the corner still gets a little "rough" but not flakey and its definitely going away as well, but other than that %99 of it is gone. Its amazing not worrying about my face being a parmesan factory or "oh, I though it was leftover toothpaste" if I forgot to deflake. Seriously, it totally nuked it and I feel like a new man lol Unfortunately I think I will have to keep soaking my face as if I skip a day of H&S on the face, it starts to creep back a tiny tiny bit. I didnt have too bad dandruff before, but it's pretty much gone now.
      What I do:
      1: Good sized dollop enough for your hair, lather into hair, then use H&S lather/foam and cover areas affected (or whole face for "salted earth" policy)
      2: Hang out in shower and occasionally rub effected areas to keep from drying out. Go as long as you can or until "tingly", then wash off.
      4: ????
      5: Profit.

    I am so happy to have found you today! I am 56, was diagnosed with seborrheic dermatitis/folliculitis (sensitive, oily,very coarse, wavy, salt and pepper hair) on my scalp over 30+ years ago, and have tried everything. I visited the dermatologist in November and she told me I don't have seborrheic dermatitis anymore but I still have folliculitis and a very sensitive on the oily prone to scabs scalp. She advised me not to use any irritating products. I prefer clean natural products. I have found that a clean clarifying shampoo works best for me, leaves my scalp clean and clear, and keeps my hair cleaner. It allows me to to only shampoo only 2x a week.

    Hi! I just want to share my experience with SD, and the only treatment that has worked on me so far: I've struggled with severe SD on large parts of my face, scalp and chest since I hit puberty. I've found that using a shampoo containing selenium disulfide on all affected areas, cutting my nails frequently to avoid scratching and avoiding fermented beverages such as beer, cider and wine, clears up all rashes within a fortnight. With this treatment I'm 100% free of both rashes and dandruff. Hope this might help others who are struggling.

    • @Ofjelge
      @Ofjelge 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Harry Pannu. I enjoy beer from time to time but a lot less than I used to, as it really worsens my condition. Liquor is okay however, but most fermented alcoholic beverages (beer, cider, wine etc.) aggravate my dermatitis.
      But if I'm quick to shower with the shampoo I mentioned in my original comment after I've had a couple of beers, it can sometimes counteract the effect.

    Just wanted to leave this here. I found this video 3 years ago and tried your advices. It's been 3 years and my SD never came back the way it was. You literally saved my skin. My solution was the anti dandruff shampoo plus an oil free moisturizer. The products I use are: heads and shoulders 2 in 1 classic (shampoo + conditioner) and the clinique dramatically different moisturizing gel. I use the anti dandruff shampoo during shower, leaving it for a few minutes in the affected areas and the moisturizer in the morning and before bed.And that's it. Those 2 products keep it in control! Thank you so much Dr Dray!

      @Phliipme 4 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      @@Phillipwnn sure. My routine is pretty simple. I found that overly complicated routines seem to make it worse to my skin. I wake up, rinse my face with water, dry it, and use the clinique moisturizer on the affected areas (around the nose and T zone). Then, I go on with my day. At the end of the afternoon after getting home from work, I take a shower, I use the shampoo H&S on my hair and spread the foam to the affected areas (mainly forehead and arround nose). I then leave it there while I wash the rest of my body (but if you are slow, dont leave the shampoo foam on the skin too long, for me 5 minutes max, or I will get very red patches of irritated skin). Then when I'm done, I rinse everything together. After I shower, I dry my face using soft cloth in a patting motion, so it doesnt irritate the skin, and put on my clinique moisturizer once again in the affected areas. And thats it. I dont do nothing else. Hope it helps 🙂

    I was diagnosed with seborrheic dermatitis, and I believe it was caused by exposure to pollution (as well as low immune system / bad sleep). It started a month after I began cycling (I live in a big city) and my worst flare up was after a bonfire. It comes back if I have been in a place with people smoking indoors. I haven’t seen any source or doctor mention air pollution as a trigger but am 99% certain it is the cause of mine.

    I'm 23 years old, and I have had SD since I was 13. After having tried many things, what has helped me the most the for last 4 years has been using Head & Shoulders for my hair (which it's better to wash everyday, but I wash it every day and a half) and Nivea Express Hydration (or any moisturizer kind of the brand) for my face. I apply the Nivea every single day after I shower, on the affected areas, and even some times during the day (when I start noticing some flaky scales, I immediately put Nivea on them). Nobody who knows me would know I have a skin condition if I didn't thell them. In fact, a lot of them don't seem to believe me! This is to tell how great of this combination is! I hope it works for you (it's true we all have different types of skin, but I'll be glad if this helps you). :)

    I developed dandruff on my head during my teens and then in my early 20's, I started getting red rashes on my face that tend to scale up. I have pretty much self diagnosed myself with Seborrheic dermatitis since I've gone to many dermatologists and they say it is just eczema but I can clearly tell the difference. Sadly it's always around my nose, my chin, and flaky skin around my eyebrows near my nose. I have tried almost every topical cream, antibiotic, lotion, etc and nothing helps. Such a frustrating dilemma.
    I also noticed this came about a few years after I moved to Arizona. They say the sun helps, but I found that my dermatitis was always worse out in the desert.
    I have tried the dandruff shampoo on my face. It's had mixed results. I find that Gold bond lotion tends to help with the dryness, but it depends on how severe an outbreak I get. I have noticed I can get a flare up that lasts for months and then go 6 or more months with clear skin. It's weird how it works. I find a light cleansing using St Ives cucumber scrub can help with the dry skin but then the skin becomes red. That is the worst thing. I've tried using a light amounts of makeup to cover up the redness, and that shows all the dry patches. I'm probably not doing it right since I don't wear makeup. I just figured I wanted to find a way to cover up the horrid redness that leads to embarrassment.

      Just reading your post here and it explains everything i'm going through and it really sucks... we here in the UK don't have gold bond or st ives scrub but i have a solution that actually helps with my dryness it works for me and it might also work for you, they is a cream i purchase on amazon called blackmores its quite oily so it helps control the flakes and softens them so they ain't as noticeable its not a steroid cream but its more of an oily moisturiser but seems to stay quite oily on the skin apposed to your skin soaking it up and drying out straight away. i think its from australia or new zealand. i hope this helps you.

    I´m having this dermatitis for almost 15 years. I tried different shampoos, even with antifungal and some containing cortisone. I also have dense scalp, so the scalp doesn´t get much air which make it all worse.
    The best way to handle this sickness for me is by using diluted apple vinegar. Here is what I do. Take a medium sized bowl. Fill the bowl 50% with apple vinegar and 50% with water. After that wash your hair so your hair is soaked up with water (because if you dont your hair is soaking the vinegar mix up and your scalp doesnt get much). Use your hand as a spoon and put the vinegar/water mix on your scalp. You can also use cotton balls to put it on your eyebrowns and other parts of your face if you have also red areas there. After you put the whole mix on your skin let it rest for 30 minutes (dont wash your skin)! After that you can wash it off. If I do this for 2-3 days I don´t even have 1 single red area on my face or head. The reason why it reoccurs is the following: stress, to much hair on scalp (scalp doesnt get much air), too much scratching myself. I´m doing this treatment for 13 years and it is really a great help keeping the severity of this sickness to a minimum.

    Dealing with seborrheic dermatitis was a difficult one. It all started when I was in 6th grade I noticed some flakes falling off my hair and I am so shy to fix my hair in our classrom because All windows were not covered and the flakes. might notice them falling. It affected my social life, I loss my self-confidence and self-steem because of those fllaky scalps lying around me. Everytime they touch my hair, flakes are falling off. Whats more embarrasing is that everytime I go to a barbers shop, they always notice those scaly patches on my scalp.

I use it when i shower, not only washing my hair, but spreading it all over my face and into my ears. I allow it to sit for a couple minutes before rinsing it off. I use this shampoo 4-5 times a week and the Seborrheic Dermatitis is completely under control and my face is clear. I wonder how related/common this is with other immune disorders. I suffer from, and know so many others who suffer from, rheumatoid arthritis on the severe end of immune disorders, but also have the more "nuisance" level immune issues like severe seasonal allergies, eczema, flaky itchy inflamed scalp, etc. It's like our whole bodies are just constantly experiencing a massive immune system overreaction, and the flaky scalp part is the part I've NEVER been able to get relief from. 😫

    Thank you so much for this video! I'm still trying to combat SD on my face, but I've managed to tackle it on my scalp. I had the worst seborrheic dermatitis on my scalp as a teen and in my twenties. Big gross scaly flakes. The burning/itching was so bad it would keep me up at night and I'd just cry constantly. I felt disgusting. I tried a few prescription shampoos with no results. I'd tried T-Gel and Head & Shoulders, but no dice (though I'd still try anything new that was released). For some reason, when H&S released a version of their anti-dandruff shampoo with almond oil, my scalp finally started clearing up! I've been using it for several years now and the only time my dermatitis comes back is when I forget to bring it with me on trips and use hotel shampoo. IDK what it is about the addition of almond oil that seemed to finally make H&S work for me. I only recently thought to use it on my face when I have flareups on my chin/mouth area. Gets rid of scales/flakes/burning, but unfortunately not the redness!

My hair is falling because of it and online it states once the oily substance/flakes are eliminated my hair will grow back (hair follicles are blocked/prevented from growing new hair). I am in my teens and I use ketoconazole 2% topical shampoo. My hair drys out because of the shampoo, so if anyone has tips to prevent that as well I would highly appreciate them. But I have found that the Fragrance-free dove soap (the gentle kind) works well in combination with some Charcoal soap. Although I have noticed if I walk outside, I immediately get itchy. And my (I assume) Seborrheic Dermatitis flares up. So I don't know what's going on there. I always use a soft rag and scrub gently across my face. I have also noticed (for me at least) that the "philosophy Purity Made Simple One-Step Facial Cleanser" works well with it. I use it when taking a shower before I use regular soap on the skin.

    Guys I found a treatment that can work if done regularly. When you have a big flare buy hydrocortisone 1% cream and apply on the infected area for 3-4 days and keep for a couple hours each day, then wash off. The flares should stop and the SD will go away. If you continue this treatment any time it comes back for a couple of months it might help to completely get rid of it. Note: this cream is very strong so be sure to put it on only once a day and to wash it off after a couple of hours when the burning has stopped.

    I don't understand why dermatologists don't stress enough on diet. Isn't it essentially a yeast overgrowth due to dietary triggers? I've found that sugar, gluten and dairy causes me to flare up like no other. Eliminating these three triggers stops it from coming back unless I reintroduce it back in. I really wish my dermatologist would've told me about this. I'd rather fix my diet than be on a vicious cycle of steroid creams.

After 3-4th day itching and flakes disappeared, and 4 years later I didn't have a single flare up since than. The synthetic ingredient, "TBHQ" has been destroying my face for years now, and sadly, its in SO many of the foods I was consuming. So now my diet has drastically changed, but eliminating the TBHQ has been life-changing for me! I hope someone else see's this comment and has an ah-ha moment in their own life, because I have a feeling that a lot of people are ingesting this ingredient and suffering the same effects that I once did. But either way, good luck everyone with your personal skin-care journey.

    I found the only thing that works for me is putting honey on my face every night and letting it sit for 15 minutes, rinsing it off with warm water, then rinsing my face with sea salt water for a minute or two, and pat dry with a towel. I never need any lotion! This routine has also helped get rid of my blackheads and shrink my pores drastically. This condition seems to mainly caused by oily areas, and lotions and such actually feed the yeast (fungus) called malassezia(I'm surprised she didn't mention this). I would recommend to stay clear of putting anything on that isn't 100% from nature. I've fought this for 20years before discovering only my kitchen products work the best.

    Nizarol shampoo works really well and any anti fungal creams too. But the best thing is using the shampoo to wash your face with, leave it on for day ten minutes then wash it off. Once a day at least til it gets under control and just keep using it til you see no more red or inflamed skin. I’d say at least keep it up for a few months even after it looks gone still carry on as upkeep say a few times a week. Make sure you don’t use steroid creams as it had an adverse effect and once you start it ends up backfiring and it creates it to get really bad , I’d say it goes 3 times worse than it was before. It’s weird but it’s like it ends up looking like it’s working but if I put it on (if it’s really inflamed) for say longer than three days it has the opposite reaction and it actually helps it get to the really sore weeping build up of scaly skin that takes days to calm down 😓 only side note is to keep an eye out for skincare things that your dermatitis skin reacts too and keep your skin moisturised too as it (nizarol) dries your skin out otherwise. Try to keep up a simple sensitive skin type skin care routine up and it really helps to keep it from getting inflamed or sore 🥰 best of luck guys

    This is completely anecdotal, but I had seborrheic dermatitis around my nose and edges of my mouth, from the time I was 9 years old, until 30 years of age. I am very methodical when trying out new skincare. At 30, I purchased Copper P serum by Isomers. I suspended the use of other products, and used Copper P for 2 months, along with my regular cleanser and moisturizer to see how my skin reacted to it. Imagine my surprise, when I noticed the relief it provided the areas affected by seborrheic dermatitis, and how it assisted in healing the flareup. Not only that; I continued use of Copper P serum for 2 years, and never had a flareup again. I discontinued it to try other serums, but I return to it from time to time, some times with 3-4 year intervals. I am now 47. I have not had seborrheic dermatitis around my nose and edges of my mouth in 17 years. Conversely, I also had the same condition in my ears. I never used the serum there, and I continue to get flareups sporadically. I don't know if what provided these results is the copper peptide, which is not even the star ingredient in the product that bears its name, or if it is one of the other ingredients in this serum, but I'm purchasing it the next time I have another flareup on my ears.
