This video is so helpful. I always thought I had dandruff and tried many shampoos to get rid of that and it didn't work. But watching this video I think it's actually atopic eczema or something like that. I already have flare ups of atopic eczema every once in a while at other places for years so it kind of makes sense it might be on my scalp too. Will discuss that with my GP soon and see what he thinks. At the moment it isn't that bad but I had so many issues when it was soo hot and sunny outside and did wear caps to protect my scalp.
I was surprised at the results that HoneySkin Aloe Gel for Body, Hair, and Face provided me. I rubbed it on my scalp the night before shampooing and woke up with a clear scalp plus my hair looked fresh and clean. I expected some oily residue.
I’ve found in my experience that if you have a dry scalp and use a shampoo specific to dandruff then it’s going to make your problem a lot worse than it is. I’ve a dry scalp and i got myself a medicated dandruff shampoo and it dried out my scalp even more 😅 now i have to double the oil care
Did it get worse right out the shower? I can’t tell if I have dandruff or dry scalp. I just tried head and shoulders and its even worse right out the shower. ): I need help plz
@@endless_dreamer_ this happens when you have a bad shampoo or bad water and gets worse when the climate is dry. You probably need a hydrating leave in conditioner or a good hair oil. One more thing, if your water is from bore well or you’re not sure about the water just use some of your drinking water for just your hair. Or you can buy apple cider vinegar (mix 1 part with 4 parts water) and use it on your hair leave it for 5 minutes before hair wash.

I used neutrogena tgel shampoo containing coal tar its very effective,i was struggling with dandruff since 13 years now my hairs are fine but my hair fall problem i an working on it as my hair are wavy . Hard water is also a factor that contributes to hair loss
I went to my dermatologist for some hair loss and had been diagnosed with seb. dermatitis years ago. I was using three different shampoos since 2015 with TGel being one of them. Dr. gave me prescription strength Ketaconazole 2x a week. After two weeks I was so itchy. I stopped and went back to my usual routine but not am dealing with itchiness and now my rosacea that had been under control is back with itchy, dry skin and sometimes red. My ears are even itchy. I wish I never went for help with the hair loss because this is torture!
Oddly enough, I find similar issue with Nizoral and T Gel (I also have SB since a few years that I have to manage). My impression is that the active ingredients are helpful but their formulations are aggressive and drying. I've had better success with pyrithione zinc based ones because, as Dr. Dray said, py-zinc is also anti-inflammatory. My go-to is a Swiss shampoo called Squamed- very much reduces my flakes AND itchiness and redness, because of the active ingredients and the nourishing formulation. I'm curious to also try the salicylic acid based shampoos for the same rationale.
happy thursday beautiful dr dray ! it is an excellent and very informative video .i learned a lot about skincare , haircare and healthy lifestyle in general on your channel 🤩🤩🤩
I use coconut oil since I have quite a dry scalp. I live in an extremely hot region as such I have a lot of internal heat. Coconut oil, oil massages, and cool minty drinks seem to help me a lot. I wash my hair every three days. I found that washing it every day made it very dry and washing it over three days made it greasy. So it's every three days. In winter every four days since that seems to work.
I have the same problem, my scalp is very dry and I use coconut oil but it only helps for a day or two, I have to wash my hair 2 times a week because the weather is very hot and I sweat, but it's not helping the dryness in my scalp

I have seborrheic dermatitis of the scalp. It’s awful. I’ve tried nizoral and selsun blue and struggled with dry, brittle hair. Selsun blue especially dries my hair out to the point where I can’t run a brush through it. I can even smell the selsun product the next day, even though I rinsed thoroughly. The best product I’ve found is kamedis dandruff shampoo with the paired scalp cream to remove cradles cap (not sure what it’s called in adults). Keeping up with it is a nightmare though since I’m otherwise very clean. Shower daily, currently wash my hair daily, wash my sheets frequently, etc. Not sure if there’s much more I could be doing, but I hate it. Any additional info on adult cradles cap and removal of stubborn flakes would be helpful
I believe seborrheic dermatitis is the name for adult cradle cap. Im pretty sure this is what I have as well. I apply acv to my scalp after shampooing and it seems to be helping.
I had Seborrheic Dermatitis. Lost alot of hair. Dermatologist prescribed antifungal shampoo 3x a week. And Antifungal oil to leave on scalp for 4 hrs a few times a week. Cleared up after a few months!!! Go get a diagnosis!
I shampoo only on the scalp and not wash all the way to the end, whatever I wash off will wash the ends enough and I use hair mask every time to keep the hair soft despite using shampoo for oily scalp
I bought Jupiter shampoo & conditioner for my daughter. It’s the gentlest shampoo I’ve ever experienced (I occasionally like to use pyrithione zinc and/or salicylic acid in my shampoos in the winter). My daughter is doing better with selenium sulfide, unfortunately. Can’t mask that smell!

I have an itchy scalp most of the time, but sometimes for no reason it burns and it flakes with large scales and scabs. I've tried everything, including steroids and still the same.😢
i havent used any product (shampoo, soap, conditioner) on my scalp for over a year now. I recently started washing my hair with lukewarm/mildly cold water as I thought hot showers were causing a dry scalp. Do I have to use product? If I rinse my hair daily, I really have no issues, but if I go more than 40 hours without washing my hair I start to notice itchiness and small flakes. I do believe I just have a dry scalp but oily after 40 hours. Been trying the lukewarm water and drinking way more water to see if there is any difference.

This is an amazing amount of information. Thank you very much Doctor Dray!
I expected some oily residue.
thanks for sharing
I use that same product on my scalp as well. Definitely helps❤
Dr. Eddie’s Happy Cappy helped a lot with the SD/eczema of the scalp. 😊
@@mirza6472 thank you I really appreciate it!
I dont think that should happen if u use a proper brand
I do switch up between salicylic and zinc and I see decent results. I am going to try the scalp massager tool.

I used neutrogena tgel shampoo containing coal tar its very effective,i was struggling with dandruff since 13 years now my hairs are fine but my hair fall problem i an working on it as my hair are wavy . Hard water is also a factor that contributes to hair loss
Other dermatologists are saying there is no such thing as dry scalp.
All you need is citric acid.
happy thursday beautiful dr dray ! it is an excellent and very informative video .i learned a lot about skincare , haircare and healthy lifestyle in general on your channel 🤩🤩🤩

Morning!
@@lauran8968 Consult a doctor. Maybe medicated shampoo can help? Cover your hair when you go out. And when you cook/clean. It will keep the hair cleaner.
@@btsarmyforever3816 thank you, I have atopic dermatitis so I have seen doctors before. I work from home so I don't go out much and I don't cook either, but I bought a shampoo for sensitive skin, I hope it helps because I don't know what else to do, it was very expensive though!
Thank you so much for such information. Does scalp scrub help with flakes and itchiness? I am thinking of starting scalp scrubbing once a week.

Hi Dr Dray, Can itchy scalp / oily hair cause a boil on scalp? I have thick course long hair and a lot of it . Wondering if you had any tips how to avoid cystic/ boil on scalp.
Sounds like scalp psoriasis. She recently did a video on eczema vs psoriasis and mentioned it can cause like boils and scabs with psoriasis on the scalp. Maybe look into scalp psoriasis.
Happy Thursday, Dr. Dray! Could you talk about different peptides and what they do, I want to see if the ordinary buffet is better or the ampule from skin1004 the poremizing
Great idea!

I have dry itchy scalp with white flakes but they are small to large in size. They are stuck to the scalp and when I scratch my scalp it gets lose and flakes away from my scalp. I used coal tar and it made it worse so I think it could be dry scalp but I don't know. Day 2 after washing my hair with Aveeno gentle products, I only use products approved by the Yuka app. No sls, parabens, etc... Should I be using Aloe Vera? I was told that stops dryness.
I always get flaky skin after showering in winter, i got my answer that it's due to disrupted skin barrier due to my shampoo also stress, thank you so much dr
Should you oil your scalp after you wash your hair if you have dandruff?
Dr. Dray!! maybe you can help me. I’m allergic to hair dye and got a very severe chemical burn all over my scalp and it has never been the same. No matter what I try, I have constant flaking in certain areas. Am I doomed for eternity? Can the chemical burn cause this? Have i developed something because of it?
I suggest you go to a doctor they can help better
I thought that Facial Dandruff, scalp seborrheic dermatitis and Seborrheic dermatitis were pretty much the same disease, but affecting different parts of the body, (face and scalp)! I thought this was a DISEASE of the SEBACEOUS GLANDS like Acne, but I know it looks differently!
I'm so glad I came across this video (where have I been, lol) in time when I needed, thank you so much dr dray! Dr Dray, can steam contribute to a dry itchy scalp? I only wash my hair 2/3x a week but I shower 2x a day. I've tried everything and my only conclusion is that steam is the culprit of my itchy flaky scalp.

Best natural oils for the scalp? Besides plain tea tree oil
Try rotating use of neutrogena T-sal (salicyclic acid based) and t-gel (tar based)
If you haven’t tried a salicylic acid shampoo, try to find a 3% shampoo. It’s helped me greatly.

I've been diagnosed with excema on my hands before, and thinking it may be relayed to my dry scalp. I also blow dry my hair every week and use heavy styling products 🤦🏽♀️ guess i have some changes to make lol
Whenever I get a red itchy flaky scalp, I wack on the neem oil. Works a treat every time. Always do a patch test first though.

Are dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis essentially the same thing?
Thanks for the info Dr Dray 👍
Thanks for watching!
I’m in my hair care journey. my hair has been super dry even though I never use any hot tools or color my hair. I realized my scalp is also very dry. I don’t have allergies to products, but when you mentioned @ 3:03 the temperature of the water I realized the culprit. I shower in a lava temperature water + have hot baths every single day 🥲🥲🥲🥲
I have an itchy scalp most of the time, but sometimes for no reason it burns and it flakes with large scales and scabs. I've tried everything, including steroids and still the same.😢
That definitely sounds like scalp psoriasis. Look into it. I have scalp psoriasis and its all the things you listed..
@@Megan9689 Thank you, I will.
I have very oily scalp. I don’t use any hair products other than my shampoo and conditioner and I have flakes of dryness what can I do?
i havent used any product (shampoo, soap, conditioner) on my scalp for over a year now.

You don’t use anything to cleanse your hair and scalp? Water alone cannot tackle oil, debris, bacteria etc
@@savannahsimon5440 yeah i dont, as far as i know it doesnt smell or look dirty....ill part my hair and look on the scalp and look at each strand of hair. My mom says it doesnt smell so im not sure...i think water does remove dirt and debris. I feel like if natural oils are suppose to be on your scalp, washing it off every night / every other night is kind of counter intuitive? I know some people have to use shampoo or they feel uncomfortable, ive used shampoo in the past and never noticed a difference. I ultimately stopped using shampoo when i went through something called topical steroid withdrawal. I just use a gentle soap skin cleanser as body wash too.
