Maybe this could help, I went full keto (no dirty keto) as in 20g< sugar per day and NO breads, none. Not even things with flour. Malassezia went away completely. Fast forward I added flour products like tortillas, I was ok, but as soon I resumed bread, boom it came back. Thanks for the info, Dr. Dray.
Wow! A complete symposium of yeast skin conditions! That the best micro burst of useful dermatology information ever. Nothing fancy and produced, just straight out the gate and in an endless layout of conditions, facts, causes and treatments. Wow. DrDrayZ came out to play to Day (DrDrayZDay). I was using coconut oil around my nose 18 months ago and then started with tea tree oil and that seemed to start helping. Yet I was hired for a Medical tubing manufacturer and they require or request (no oily make up, no topical lotions, etc.) so just as I was making progress I stopped using them just 13 months ago. Two months ago I started getting the same thing back so I think I will go back to the Tea Tree oil which claims is a fungal fighter. :> Get some Selsun Blue and wash and rinse my hair and just washing all oils off great before heading to work. Can you do a version of this video for candida yeast types? I actually presented for a prolonged period of time with yeast infections while I was being treated with a complex series of antibiotics. Because I didn’t have any presentation other than external skin symptoms - and because I wasn’t told to look for it - I really did have to go through infectious disease to find out that candida was perpetuating half of my problem and to finally have it explained to me when to seek treatment!!
I was just diagnosed with this a couple days ago. Mine presented on the sides and under my nose. I've been under a great deal of stress which is what the dermatologist surmised was the trigger. Treatment successful, itching stopped literally overnight and now I'm following the course of treatment to get rid of it.
I have seborrheic dermatitis, tried it all to get rid of it (when I had a bout of it). Only the 2% ketaconazole (Nizoral) helped me. It is OTC here in Belgium and we only have the 2% on the market. But before I discovered this (together with my derm), it took a while. My dad? Same. My mom, oddly enough can do 2 months before her hair gets oily. Seriously. She is white. Our internist once said to just go with it, not wash too much. She is 77 and has fared well so far doing just that. In any case, IMHO ketoconazole is one of a kind. It's been good to me, still is!
I had to self diagnose this as malassezia folloculitis because multiple doctors diagnosed it incorrectly! They thought it was atopic dermatitis, an allergy to something, sensitive skin, or eczema. Since working out what was actually the problem, due to certain signs such as itching a lot after sweating, and hypopigmentation in eyebrow hairs, and little bumps similar to keratosis pilaris and a papular type rash, and the fact I was prone to fungal nail infection and chronic athletes foot, I started using diluted tea tree oil, tea tree oil soap, and ketoconazole. Guess what, a massive difference after 4 weeks of treatment! I have suffered with this for more than 3 years and finally after being given incorrect advice from dermatologists and GPs, and prescribed steroids and unsuitable treatments, luckily I decided to self diagnose myself and hoping I am on the road to recovery ❤
@@iriskeniafernandez5647 yes in 4 weeks it's improved a lot, I no longer get an itching face when I sweat! I use squalane to cleanse and Vaseline to improve my moisture barrier and help my skin heal. Not 100% yet but I try to keep the fungus at bay with ketoconazole wash once every week or 10 days, and also occasionally tea tree oil diluted in squalane. It's taking some time to clear completely especially from the back of my shoulders but I am just happy I'm heading in the right direction 😊
@@irenealexandra yes, basically when I have a bath at night using Nizoral shampoo and lathering all over my body particularly where I was suffering from itching/fungus e.g. eyebrows, forehead, behind ears, neck, upper arms, stomach, feet, toenails. Leave for around 8 mins before rinsing off. Repeating once a week. Can also use selsun medicated shampoo alternately if desired. Using Sainsbury's tea tree oil glycerin soap for sensitive skin during bathing. I have dry skin so moisturising after bathing using squalane and vaseline. Before bed: mixing 15 drops squalane to 1 drop tea tree and apply topically to affected areas. Using 2% ketoconazole cream topically on affected areas daily for 2 weeks then every other day. Also treat fungal nail using drop of tea tree oil on cotton square on nail and cover with plaster overnight. Also fungal nail paint during day if desired. Keep nails short and clean. Sticking to only olive squalane to oil cleanse and remove makeup. Wipe off with cotton pad. Moisturise only with olive squalane and vaseline to maintain moisture barrier at night. Check all SPF, foundation and make up products to make sure they have only malassezia safe ingredients. Continue routine with malassezia safe products until symptoms clear then introduce some other moisturizer back cautiously if desired e.g. aveeno moisturising cream for myself. Continue Nizoral shampoo wash once a week as maintenance. Also after sweating during exercise, making sure to shower as soon as possible after finishing exercise with tea tree oil glycerin soap.

Thanks for the video! Everything makes much more sense now. I have a spinal cord injury and developed seborrheic derm about 6 months later. Never would’ve guessed that was possibly correlated. I have a very difficult time getting rid of it
same here. ACDF spine operation years ago....roscea for years following! I tired head and shoulders shampoo on my face yesterday for the first time, and almost instantly, it began to reduce the inflammation!
Zinc supplements has helped my seb derm on my nose. Also my scalp isn’t as inflamed anymore. Just 15mg everyday! Could be placebo effect but never know what could help.
Dr Dray, what would you say about insulin spike driven seb derm / dandruff or psorasis? Have you ever stumbled upon such cases? I’ve read something about that on PubMed and I happen to suffer from insulin resistance
I have type I rosacea AND seb derm. I treat both with 1) ivermectin topical for rosacea and 2) sulfur cream for SD. Never overlapping! Good times. I don't treat both 100% of the time, and my skin looks better, feels calmer.
Hey Dr. Dray! I enjoyed the fermented ingredients section in your latest video on Azelaic Acid. If possible, please make a video dedicated to discussing fermented ingredients in products. Thank you. ❤
I had this while on dupixent. That and blepharitis. My derm didn't really recognize it as a side effect. :-( However, I convinced her I should move on and so now I'm on rinvoq and it's the best thing ever.
Yeah the head and neck dermatitis side effect was not reported in the initial clinical trials with dupixent, but now that we have been using it for awhile, it is clear that a subset of people definitely develop this, and it seems to be related to malassezia
There’s another drug same class of dupixent that doesn’t target have the malesezzia issue. I think it’s by abbot but I’m not sure. Another derm dr talks about it came after dupixent and people that had that malesezzia issue saw results. That being said, how did you like dupixent? I’m strongly considering it
I have seborrheic dermatitis and it has caused Seborrheic Blepharitis. I have been dealing with this for over a year but only discovered the seborrheic dermatitis connection recently.
Selsun Blue really helped my seb derm. Just mix with a little water and apply to seb derm areas on face for about 10 minutes a day. Also Cerave products repaired skin barrier.
I have Seb Dermatitis on my face , around and on my nose and for me Cosrx Cica line with Centella helped soo much. It calmed down the skin and redness was gone in minutes. I was shocked
I live in Thailand. It’s hot and humid and you can sweat like a dog by just sitting around in the house. I used to had this malassezia, cured , and back to have this condition again just last year when I listened to your advice about showering once a day. And use just water to clean the face in the morning …😅😅😅 guess what. It doesn’t work in tropical countries. We shower twice a day traditionally for a reason.
So I have seborrheic dermatitis on face. For the most part i don’t flare up so much. But I always get these stubborn flare ups on my nose. They do itch here and there but it drives me insane . I wash my face with vanicream and use a fungal acne safe moisturizer that has ingredients to fight off fungal acne. But on my nose , it’s stubborn ones. I also live in south Texas. So it doesn’t help that it’s humid 90 percent of the time
have u ever filmed a video on prevention/ treatment of the bumpy discoloration woman can get under larger breasts. seems a popular place for seb keratosis, skin tags and who knows what all!
Had a bad flare of fungal acne after using some high-end fermented products. Now i just stick to CeraVe and Vanicream. My skin is slowly getting back to normal.
Is Keratin build up in the skin and its associated abnormalities also considered yeast problems in the skin? I am also curious to to bring up the idea when you look at articles on keratin skin problems nobody talks about blood PH and the interaction between the two. I feel there must be something there to look at.
The 6% salicylic acid cradle cap lotion that I recently purchased (to chemically exfoliate my feet), has come in very handy. I use it on my face (to clear pores) and also have been applying it to a small area on my arm on which the skin was dry and slightly red. It flared up occasionally & became itchy (normally after I had even a small amount of alcohol)! Anyway, after GPs tellingly me that it wasn't anything to worry about (because it wasn't cancer), this oil based salicylic lotion has seemed to have finally calmed the area. I don't know whether the problem will return if I stop applying the SA lotion, but so far so good. 👱♀️❤
"Egozite Cradle Cap Lotion". It is manufactured by Ego Pharmaceuticals (Australia). I have been using it on my face (to keep pores clear and on my feet (to keep them soft). Now I am also using it to shave my upper bikini line, and then applying it afterwards to prevent red bumps & ingrown hairs. It has a serum like consistency, so gives a very smooth shave and doesn't block the razor. It is only AU$6.95 for 50mls. It is meant for babies, so it is gentle on my skin too. Thank you Dr Dray!!! The info I gleaned from this video will help me GREATLY now and when I go to the😮 Dermatologist next month. However, I HAVE been on a lot of antibiotics over the last 18mo. from multiple Diverticulitis/UTI flare ups, C-diff and COVID causing yeast overgrowth. My young adult son was treated for skin conditions by his pcp for at least 3 years with no positive results. She finally sent him to a derm, who treated with ketoconazole shampoo, two kinds of topicals and a year and a half of Rifampin. He is still suffering. The derm never took a skin sample and said this was kind of a trial and error issue. My son quit the derm and still suffers from (as we believe now) both sebhoreic dermatitis and malassezia folliculitis. It has really been rough for him.
I had seborrheic dermatitis (eyebrows, glabella and near the nose crevices) and my dermatologist method was cleansing (used bioderma sensibio foaming gel the pink scented one 😂❤) and then travacort (Isoconazole nitrate (1%) +Diflucortolone valerate (0.1%) ) for seven days and then stop it but alongside with it i also used elidel cream (pimecrolimus) but i didn't have to stop it like the steroid cream travacort 😅 and of course i used bioderma sensibio Ds+ cream for moisturizing my face plus it was also for the seborrheic dermatitis 😅❤. Idk if that’s just make believe or there’s science to back that up though. 😅 I also feel like cutting out fluoride has improved my skin issues a lot. It’s apparently recommended to improve psoriasis so it might be similar.
Hi dr Dray! why is it that malassezia thrives in hot, humid environments and when there's too much oil production, but conditions like seborrheic dermatitis flare up in the winter when it's actually less humid and the skin is less oily? I am at my wits end trying to control my seb derm after being on long term oral antibiotics due to a life-threatening bacterial infection😞 I am wondering if I should discuss accutane as an option with my derm for the seb derm? since so many of the topical ointments I've been prescribed have helped only minimally and the condition recurs once I discontinue their use
I remember a doctor saying I was reacting to my sweat. Anyway I usually use otc antifungals as recommended by my derm and wash my face with head and shoulders. I am súper pale and still have even paler spots on my face. I only see the spots because makeup doesn’t lie well on them.
Very helpful information! I will try your suggestion for my stubborn tinea versicolor… They prescribe the k meds. But I was afraid to use it since I don’t know what it is. But I’m going to try this. It goes away like you said in the winter, unless I wear a scarf or something to trigger this. Also eating less sugar I noticed helps. But I also notice some things trigger it like scents. Especially strong scents in hair products. So I’ve been looking for products especially for hair wo scent. Hair products wo strong scent is sort of difficult to find. It’s getting a bit easier though, but they are not as effective. Perfumes, even natural ones can trigger it for me too. Best
I wish you could look at my skin. It started with a bad nail job 2 years ago August. My nails and fingertips felt like they had a million mosquito bites on them. Burning. This went undiagnosed for a year. Then a nurse asked me if it felt like a vaginal yeast infection. Exactly! I went on Terbinafine for five months. It moved from my nails to my skin. My nails never looked sick. Now after 13 doctors I'm on UVB light treatment. It's like I have this thick strands of skin that grow in my thumbs. It's isolated to my thumbs now. This skin can be broken up and flicked away. It sews itself up overnight like a shoelace. I can feel it right under the dermis. It is itchy beyond words. After i pick that off, you can't see it you can only feel it. I can hear flakes of it hit the sink. It has morphed several times . Nobody knows what it is and I have been asked to leave several dermatologists offices because they don't know what it is and can't help me. I'm miserable. It was biopsied twice. It came back as nail fungus then came back as eczema.
My word. This sounds so horrible. I’m sorry. I think you should try dermazen serum for your nail/skin. If that doesn’t work, maybe ask for ivermectin lotion. I’ve heard it’s for parasite but who knows if no doc is helping! Musely has a red formula that says rosacea with it in there.

I have seb derm / rosacea in my T zone, it is red and very oily, but not that many flakes. I really dont know if it is rosacea or seb derm, but nothing seems to be working. I at least would really be glad to know which condition i really have
If it is closer to the sides of your nose it's sebderm. Rosacea is when the redness is more to the sides of your face. She mentions it in this video. Also the oiliness is specifically for sebderm and not for rosacea, where you only have the redness.
I have been diagnosed with both. My rosacea flares are often accompanied with a seb derm flare. Rosace does effect the T zone while effecting the cheek area, thus these conditions can occur concurrently, but I personally have never had rosacea flare only in my T-zone. Can you please make a video about candida overgrowth? Thank you!!
What did you do for treatment
This would be great!

What was the solution?
I Get seb Dermatits on scalp, sides of nose and above eyebrows. The only thing that keeps it at bay during a flare up is Nizoral 2% cream.
I was just diagnosed with this a couple days ago. Mine presented on the sides and under my nose. I've been under a great deal of stress which is what the dermatologist surmised was the trigger. Treatment successful, itching stopped literally overnight and now I'm following the course of treatment to get rid of it.

How have you been doing since your prescription?
I have seborrheic dermatitis, tried it all to get rid of it (when I had a bout of it). Only the 2% ketaconazole (Nizoral) helped me. It is OTC here in Belgium and we only have the 2% on the market. But before I discovered this (together with my derm), it took a while. My dad? Same. My mom, oddly enough can do 2 months before her hair gets oily. Seriously. She is white. Our internist once said to just go with it, not wash too much. She is 77 and has fared well so far doing just that. In any case, IMHO ketoconazole is one of a kind. It's been good to me, still is!
it kinda stopped working for me, id like to find an actual fix instead of drugs n stuff :(
@@SuperBranFlakez ketoconazole = a "fix" in essence, it is "how you treat it".
@@amixebluno. You could not be more wrong. It’s a BAND AID!! What they meant by “fix” is cure. And this does not cure it.
Did it ever go away?
@@iriskeniafernandez5647 yes in 4 weeks it's improved a lot, I no longer get an itching face when I sweat! I use squalane to cleanse and Vaseline to improve my moisture barrier and help my skin heal. It’s getting a bit easier though, but they are not as effective. Perfumes, even natural ones can trigger it for me too. Best

However, I have no irritation from the tretinoin anywhere else on my face, and my skin fold on the other nostril is fine. Can I use ketoconazole and tretinoin at the same time?

Hi Dr.Dray, do you recommend any effective oral/systemic medication for seb derm? I've been dealing with it for the past year and topical creams don't seem very effective.
Also, is there any way to prevent it from coming back??
There is a prescription ketoconazole cream based on a recent video I saw from another derm.
@@db-gb5xi I've tried ketoconazole cream and topical corticosteroids, but creams don't seem to work for me that well.
@@countesselizabeth Dr. Natalia Spierings has a video on seb derm talking about isotretinoin in severe cases.
She said low dose accutane in this video to reduce the sebum
ivermectin, lose does helps me with this and so many things! Anti-viral, anti-parasitic, anti-inflammatory. Makes sense since it also helps with hiv ergo, immure deficiencies like cvd infection and injections
Hi Doctor. My PCP said that I had intertrigo but I'm not sure he is correct. Given that if he is correct, are the things you are saying in your video applied to me??? thank you so much!❤
Happy weekend Dr Dray...see you tomorrow x💙🤩
Piroctone is also popular here in the Philippines
What can you recommend to a 5 yo child with chronic eczema on hands?
Thank you so much for covering this! I have full body SebDerm and its absolutely brutal. I have a super strict routine, but I have yet to find a good Deodorant that doesn't trigger it. Any suggestions?
What have you used for treatment
@@lisagardner4814 Hi there, for my facial treatment I do Malezia Urea Moisturizer & Benzoyl Peroxide 2.5%. Its working extremely well. I use Ketoconozole shampoos for my body which have been working good, and top it off with Cure Water treatment moisturizer, its worked really nicely for locking in moisture (apply while skin is still wet!)~
I used to do Ketoconozole on my face, but it wasn't working as well and I wanted to switch off of it ( had been using for over a year) so I went with the Malezia routine and it took about 4 weeks to really get the routine to start doing what it needs to do, the Benzoyl peroxide takes some getting used to, but I find it really effective at drying out the fungus and also any acne cysts I get from my hormonal imbalance.
Vanicream or almay? I know she recommends fragrance free, but not sure if those are specifically recommended for sebderm
@mantid.beings have you tried Dr. Mist?
Always super informative and easy to understand! Thank you 😊
Hey Dr. Dray was at walgreens earlier, located at the entrance in a display NEW arrival,Olay Sensitive Colloidal Oatmeal face moisturiser for $39, I like to hit the floor!!! And there’s another new one (olay)also there for $49! Unbelivable😮
Yes, this came up in one of her recent shop with me videos. She was shocked as well.
So should I not be putting Vaseline on my face if it thrives in oil?
I an hoping to identify the stuff on my face- thank you as usual! Happy Friday! 💜💜💜
Happy Friday
Aaslam u Aalikum peace be upon you Dr dray hope you and your family are doing well.Happy Friday ❤
Every one reviw korean ang Japanese skin care products no doubt they are game changer for skin .I really want to know your opinion about Chinese skin care products they are worth buying ???
Happy Friday! I am not familiar with any Chinese brands
Are you seriously thinking of giving money to china? Did you also support the Taliban?
Could you do a video on hydrogels and surfactant based hydrogels such as Plurogel? I’m wondering if they have any purpose outside of wound dressings. I have some from a burn I got and was wondering if it could have other cosmetic uses because it says “tissue regeneration” on the tube.
I have found that Azelaic acid has been very helpful with both conditions.
@@kimmcgarry8305 which product, concentration and frequency do you use? Do you also use it when you don't have a flare?
@@kimmcgarry8305 I want to try a a I bought apad from geek and gorgeous to try but not sure how to use it as I am new to all of this , can you tell me how you use it please 🙏
@@winnersmakenoexcuses2360 The Ordinary 10% A A that Dr Dray, Dr Sam Bunting, Dr Shareen Idris all gave it a thumbs up. Every day because it helps dial down the reactivity of your skin with regard to rosacea and it also helps to regulate sebum production. It can be used twice a day if you can tolerate it. I personally can’t tolerate anything above 10% so I use The Ordinary.
My doctor just prescribed Epsolay… any thoughts on this?
bpo can help with papules & pustule of rosacea, and new formulations are overcoming the drying side effects. I I wish this branded form was otc, as needing a prescription for benzoyl peroxide seems ridiculous, given it is otc
I’ve been diagnosed with rosacea and nothing seems to work. Looks and sounds more like this.
Love the lip gloss!!!
Hi! Can azelaic acid kill Malazedia?
thank you so much, this is very helpful!!
Is it possible for hair products to trigger/worsen sebderm on the face? Or is that a correlation doesn't equal causation issue?
Yes it can, when you wash your hair try not to touch the face with that shampoo.
@@mirjanapucarevic2105 Okay, thanks!
I can't thank you enough for this video
Pretty lipstick!
