Vocal Harmony processor (Harmonizer) comparison between the Korg Pa4X 76 and Yamaha PSR-SX900 arranger keyboards. Signals are routed into the USB sound card Lexicon Alpha, withou any EQ correction and recorded into the Cubase Elements 9.5.

Dear fellow musicians, which harmonizer sounds better to your ears?
In my opinion, Korg handles transitions between chords better. Yamaha excels as always with well-prepared presets (which, unlike Korg) do not need to be modified so much.
Don't forget to give a subscription and like. I would like to monetize this channel. Maybe it will help a little in these (especially for concert musicians) difficult times.

Yes korg
You really have to take the time to set up the Yamaha VH2. My S950 has the same VH2 as the SX900 and I freak people out all the time when they know the backup vocals are done live. I have over some 30 different setups to nail the correct backup need for each song, from groups like Alabama, Beatles, Beach Boys to singers like George Strait, Elvis, Kenny Roger and Dolly Parton.

I like the vocal of Korg. But for other sounds I like the sounds of PSR SX 900 rather than korg. However you are doing well. Praise God.

The TC-Helicon in the Korg gets my vote. It just sounds more realistic. Yamaha does a lot of processing on their sounds, apparently to include their harmonizer, to present a more 'room ready' sound, but it distracts from the actual sound samples, leaving them over processed.
Korg gives you more realistic sounds, and the TC-Helicon is no exception, but you have to work the stuff with effects and audio processing to get that 'finished' sound. It's not hard to do, but you don't get the 'out of the box' room ready stuff you do with the Yamaha. So, a lot of that depends on what you are looking to do and what you're looking for.
I feel Korg is better than Yamaha in all vocal harmonious . Especially your voice is amazing in singing Amazing Great song. God bless you dear Brother
You needed to reduce the compressor on the SX900 microphone input, but the comparison is still good, I liked it.

Korg's TC-Helicon sounds much more realistic and smooth. Yamaha's one sounds as if a tad bit late from the main and a bit of 'ducking' effect to my ears. Thanks for the demo.

Korg is better, no doubt of that ! The harmony on the SX900 not bad but not as clear as the TC Helicon on korg is !

Wouldn't it make more sense to compare the PA4X with the Genos? the SX900 is more along the lines of the PA1000 in terms of cost and features.
I would say the Korg sounds better here. The Yamaha has a bit too strong of an accent (attack) at the start of (changing) notes it seems.
I wonder if the music genre would matter, I could imagine the Yamaha sounding better in more rhythmic pieces, swing, funk, pop etc.
In reality, players would probably fine tune the settings on both keyboards to their own likings, but it's hard to make comparisons like that. It's of course also subjective.

It looks like I am in the non-popular camp and prefer the Yamaha. I have the TC Helicon as a stand alone harmonizer. It's good but requires some real focused tweaking. I thought Yamaha sounded more real.
I prefer the sx900 just feels more full,warmer.

For any vocal harmony to sound better one need to tweak around the parameters. Believe I am using something which is not even the half price of the both Keybrd but sound as if real voices!!!

The Yamaha settings are not as well tuned as in the korg and you could have had picked a more similar tinklier Epiano too. The SX noise gate is set too high and the compression ratio could be lower, and the EQ more smiley, you can also set the speed of the vocal processor reaction, vocal type, singing style and auto tuning on the Genos, don't know about the SX...
Hi Alvaro, thank you for your comment. Believe me, I tried to choose the most similar sounds. However, Yamaha is very distant from Korg in terms of sound. Unfortunately, the crystalline purity that comes from the TC Helicon cannot be produced on a Yamaha (PSR SX900). Yesterday I had the reassembled PA in my house and compared the sound of the vocals through Yamaha SX900 and through the Soundcraft Signature 12 mixer. Yamaha was very narrow. Something like a very compressed mp3. Although I tried to create sound using corrections to make it the best. Korg is far better at this. In my opinion, TC Helicon is better than Yamaha for vocal processing. However, I respect your opinion and thank you for sharing it. Take care.

if you want to do a fair comparison, you should compare the Genos to PA 4x
The Genos has the same harmony as all Yamaha keyboards have since the PSR-S950 came out in 2013

The Price of KORG Pa4x is approximately more than 5K$ while Yamaha PSR SX 900 is only more than 2K$.The Price of YAMAHA Genos is almost the same as the Price of KORG Pax4..

Tc helicon destruiu o vocal harmony da Yamaha. eu tive um tyros 5 e hoje tenho um pa4x. sei muito bem essa diferença. o vocal da yamaha tende a robotizar e embolar muito fácil. assim como ela não obedece bem a altura do timbre.

TC Is the founder of it, KORG is better on it, i had all KORG Pa Models, But on the PA 1 X it was the best! Its stil good on 4 X, But Quality was far better in 1 X
Can I run my tc helicon for keyboards thru the sx900. Wouldn't it need audio inputs on the sx900 for me to do this or am I missing something?

Does anyone know if you can route the microphone audio (with harmony) to a separate audio output on the both the Korg and Yamaha i.e. thorough the auxiliary output/sub outputs.

I never used Korg and only Yamaha more than 20 years. I recently bought the Sx-900. I am amateur player but like to sing a lot. I bought a Shure SV-100 microphone. It sort of gives cracking sound. I like to use the voice ALPEN GIRLS harmony. But it always is a disaster. I am no expert in making adjustments to the various parameters as I dont understand any of it. I feel its the mic fault. Could you please suggest which microphone could be best for the SX-900. Thanks. Love from India

Hi, If Fantom have vocal harmony processor so yes. :) But synth usually don' t have this function - very often they are able just add reverb or other FX on mic imput.

@@solosolomon Hello. I know that comparing the Yamaha PSR SX900 with the Korg Pa4x is not fair. Unfortunately I don't have a Korg Pa1000 available. On the other hand, in the Czech Republic the price of the SX900 is quite close to the Pa4x. Another option is to buy a second-hand Pa4x. I've bought a lot of second hand keyboards and if you know what to try before you buy, then no problem.
I'm happy for your opinion and I confirm that the presets in Yamaha are really good. I like both keyboards and both brands. That's why I also own a Korg Pa4x and a Yamaha PSR S750. The SX 900 is from a music school where I teaching children how to play the keyboard.

KORG PA4X are much technically better than YAMAHA SX900, but only if you know how to used and handle it. For a beginner is YAMAHA SX900 user friendly to start and not complicated. The TC HELICON PA4X is superior.

I thought the korg sound was better, but I still think both have an unnatural sound. I'm sure you had them turned up for the purpose of the video but in general use, I think they're better when quieter and not as prominent in the mix

Le voci di controcanto di TC helicon sono. più "sintetizzati " e inespressivi, mentre quelli di Yamaha sono molto più naturali; chii ha orecchie per intendere capirà. Слухав в навушниках.корг як комп'ютер звук не реалістичний як програмний дует квартет ямаха більше подібне до реальності.на слух ямаха краще.але тембри в корга краще як не крути стилі навпаки ямаха впереді.що обрати питання...ще те.,.
