    Appreciate the fact that you used similar styles to compare the two keyboards unlike many others who don’t do this. Although wish you named the styles. That would be awesome.

    Neither Korg nor Yamaha really matter. The person who know how well to play the instrument is what make difference.

      Edison Mirandilla a bad shooter can miss. You’re comment doesn’t fit this thread. Did you mean to say that a good shooter can hit the target with any gun (keyboard) and a bad shooter can miss the target with any gun (keyboard)? Because that would’ve fit the thread😄✌🏾

      Let’s discuss about Keyboards, not Guns.
      High Quality and expensive Keyboards even simple Songs can make a very expressive sound.I am a Pro Band player, I play Bass, Keyboard and some Lead Guitar licks.I believe it’s really from the Keyboard Players skills.But, High Quality Keyboards also makes a difference. It can replicate the sounds of Original soundtracks.

    Great comparison although as arranger keyboards, you also need to think about ease of use and user interface - how easy is it to operate either at home recording or arranging or live when gigging...ease of use and ability to actually operate it is also important - for me the Yamaha seems to offer the best combination of sound quality, versatility and ease of use...

    • @nickbeqiri2289
      @nickbeqiri2289 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@wan-hb1dh cheaper yes.. but has more to offer because of a higher price "Like newer engine/sound card & it also has Arpegios which Korg doesn't" - the SX900 has really become the perfect all around keyboard (or Genos the Bigger brother), nothing compares to them since this new Update 2.0 (Korg has the OS3.0 update which is the maximum 600mb for voices which is preety good, but Yamaha with the 2.0 update took it further and more effects and so on, and just wait for the next big update in the next 8-10-12 months which will go even further), if Korg don't come out with a new Pro5X or something, they're done just like Roland! Yamaha really surpassed everyone right now.. but this Korg Pa1000 isn't bad at all for the money, tons of features and very rich in sound, but very bad KEYBED, the worst I've seen.. just can't play on it and that's where they messed up BIG TIME! Woudn't mind paying extra $100-150 to have a really good keybed, it's horrible what they put in there some cheap $50 plastic!

      @@nickbeqiri2289 There are Arpeggios in Korg PA1000 and the Sound engines in both are pretty comparable. I own over 20 keyboard and i can personally say it comes down to preference on what the type of sound it is that your looking for. I have been on the Yamaha side for a while, but now tend to go more with Korg because of quality and sound. In defense of both keyboards there are unique sound signatures you get with each brand. Personally i find the Korg one better because of feel and size (but also ease of customization of sound quality). Korg also offersTC-Helicon and Defined Nuance Controls which make the Korg experience very realistic and personal. Don't get me wrong neither one are perfect, and no keyboard ever is (hence my growing collection over the years lol). Overall it really comes down to preference and what sound your are looking for and what interface you are most familiar with (not a factor if you are new to both thought). If you are into nice sounding pianos then definitely korg, but Other instruments sound better on Yamaha - But in all honesty both are capable of some pretty amazing sounds with the right amount of tweaking.

    I played the Yamaha in a music shop yesterday and i found the violin and cello voices to be extremely realistic! Also the various Church organs were very good. The Korg full cathedral organ is also good. I have the Korg, i find the keyboard touch to be difficult to play - it’s too spongy and you need to play on the edge of the keys, or they are hard to press. The Yamaha action is easier to control. I’m a pianist with a grand. Weighted it better of course but i want the keyboard for realistic sounds and sequencing

  • @HubertEtAlice
    @HubertEtAlice 4 ปีที่แล้ว +38

    The Yamaha sounds way more modern to my ears. Two drawbacks: 1. Way too much reverb is being applied by default to the samples. 2. Some of the samples have been around for decades literally, for instance the tenor and the soprano saxophone.
    Also it must be noted that on the Korg everything is fully tweakable. Not everyone is aware that there is a fully-fledged synth hiding behind every PA arranger which is certainly a great plus for Korg.

      Thank you for this information... I was trying to decide between the Yamaha, and the Korg to purchase (although considering the PA4X 76)..I want Vocal features... and this Yamaha had them... but having been an old Yamaha owner PSR-600, I was impressed, but always had that "Too Modern" feeling left in me. I am a trained musician and like a sound more closely related to "analog".

    Firstly compliments to the performer. Great job in playing al the different styles and showcasing various musical instrument sounds. Lots of setting up must have been necessary to make this live comparison go so smoothly. Both instruments are superb in their own way. I prefer the piano sounds of the Korg. The guitar of the Yamaha was more to my liking. The flute sounded better on the Korg. The Yamaha would be a better pick for a big hall. Love its brassy big band sounds. The Korg would sound better in a club environment. It had a more warm feeling. They were both superb but if I had to pick one it would be the Korg. EddieB

    The SX won it for me for sheer usability and the ability to change any sounds to my preferance and save in a few easy steps. Keybed also felt the best on the SX which was a surprise....
    Also managed to load the nice CFX Piano.
    Its a simple case of what works best for you....try them all out with good quality headphones...

      Ich denke, dass beide Instrumente großartig klingen, aber auf unterschiedliche Weise. Die Yamaha ist für mich verarbeiteter und die Korg ist natürlicher. So oder so haben Sie eine gute Tastatur. Ich habe vor langer Zeit Yamaha-Instrumente verkauft, und alle meine jüngsten Keyboards waren Korg. Dies ist ein Instrument, das PSR-SX900, das ich mir genauer ansehen möchte, bevor ich mich für eines von beiden entscheide.
      Für mich wäre es jedoch das Beste, einen von jedem zu haben!

      The Yamaha uses more FX with its samples. I've been a Yamaha die hard for 25 yrs and they dont like you messing around with what THEY think you should sound like. You need a masters degree in particle science to edit the Korg and the forum rooms are empty of people who know how to edit. The manuals are written assuming you have that masters degree (which I have but not in Korg science) - but the hours drift away as I learn all the tweaks I can do to get the sound I want not what the manufacturer wants. Yamaha uses samples in the T5 I had in the Pro 9000 I had 18 years of cheating isn't on. Korg just seems to give you better samples, DSP, styles etc and trades up.
      In the end, it comes down to personal preference I think, just now I'm with Korg.
      With the Yamaha T5 you had these huge galactic big band intros which went into quite a bland style real night and day.

    Yamaha sounds too sterile. Some instruments do sound better, especially due to more spacious sound (more reverb I guess). Korg sounds warmer and generally more natural, unfiltered, some sounds could use a bit of reverb.

    • @djlobb
      @djlobb 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      How does the Yamaha sound sterile? It sounds richer and a bit less clinical. The sounds do sound somewhat processed but remember you're also playing them on an arranger piano. The idea is that everything is done in the one unit. So it's nice to have performance ready sounds. It's easy enough to dial back a reverb. To me the Yamaha sounds slightly less cheesy. Altho most keyboards sound pretty fake when you're trying to re-create real instruments in a backing with them.

    The issue with yamaha keyboard is that one needs to bash on the keys in order to get the guitars and some saxophones to be audible (I have got the SX700). Otherwise the sound is quite discret most of the time compare to the level of the style. And quite often we have got this same behavior with pianos too.
    I also experience this same issue on the Yamaha MODX 8 Plus. There is a very big jump between pianos and synth/drum sound.

    Thanks Justin!
    I asked for this about two weeks ago, and here it is. That's really appreciated.
    Okay, I'm not listening with the greatest speakers, or my better headphones, but here's my opinion.
    For the first time in a long time, Yamaha is as good as Korg. The Genos took the first step in that direction, but on a $5,300 USD keyboard, I expect it to be D***** good. Especially when the PA4X is over $1,000USD less expensive and sounds just as good.
    However, here in the States, the price between these two keyboards is just a couple of hundred dollars, and I could get one of each for the price of the PA4x, and half of another one for the price of the Genos, and that doesn't include the speaker systems for the PA4X or the Genos!
    I am very happy with the sounds of both keyboards. I've always believed that Yamaha over-processes their samples and it makes them 'fatter', but somewhat unrealistic. Korg doesn't, or at least not as much, giving IMHO a much truer sound.
    In this particular setup, I think I would tweak the EQ of the PA1000 up a bit and tweak the EQ of the PSR-SX900 down just a bit, at least in the mid and high ranges.
    Yamaha also seems to be more 'song-specific' with a lot of their styles, which is fantastic if you want to play that song, but if you aren't playing that song, it sounds kind of weird. You're associating the style with a certain song, and then not playing that song. I prefer a more generic accompaniment like the Korg offers.
    I think the only way, at least for me, out of this would be to buy one of each. The one thing that they are missing, and this applies to both of them. I wish that both of them were more like the PA4X and Genos and had nine sliders that can be used for drawbars. Either that, or I would love to see someone create an aftermarket drawbar controller with 9 each for upper and lower and two for the bass. MIDI controlled with different MIDI outputs for each set of drawbars and a third for the pedals, or the option to map the pedals to one of the either two outputs.
    IIRC, you were creating a setup using the PA-1000 and a M-Audioi Keystation 61 key controller, which is great, but I really would like to see a setup more like what you have shown here with a 25 note pedal board and a MIDI drawbar controller as outlined above. Lots of functionality is something like that, for sure.
