    I've played with both and I find that the Korg has better sound in general. Its very easy to use and intuitive. keys are better feel wise and you have more nuance control. and voice processing is way better than the tyros. materials used to build the korg seem more refined as well.

    Very nice comparison! Thank you so much Tony. I've got already the PA4X and I am very excited with it. I use to have the PA3X in the past. For me, the new PA4X is one step further. Better screen, better sound quality, more sounds, dedicated user keyboard SETs (without loosing the factory keyboard sets/xPerformances), the Direct option to load more sounds and styles is amazing, better keybed, 2 Line inputs (the Stereo Mini-jack on the 2nd input helps you to connect your tablet or your smartphone), the new Backlit option it's very helpful when you use the keyboard in a dark place, but most of all i am excited with the new feature "midi to style". You should visit your nearest shop for a test drive ;).

    Out of the two demos I prefer the Korg Pa4x, 12 months ago I did the A/B test on both products and while the Tyros 5 has some nice sounds the Tyros has not got the depth of sound editing facilities that the Korg Pa4x has. Touch screen is massive plus, as is the much smaller footprint when compared with the large footprint of the Tyros range and static display controlled by buttons!
    One thing that immediately strikes you about the Korg Pa4x is its live organic sound and depth and soundstage. For live use the Pa4x is the clear winner and the Pa4x can be your one stop keyboard either in a Solo, Duo, Trio or band setting. In fact having spent a few days working with both the Tyros 5 and Pa4x it was the Pa4x that I decided to take home with me and 12 months on I have not looked back on that purchasing decision even given the fact that I have other Pro Keyboards to play in any of the above musical situations.
    My view is that if your torn between these two products then spend some time to put them through their paces before deciding which one to buy. I would also say that the Pa4x allows so much versatility in all areas from style creation, style editing, Sampling, Sound Editing and recording that it sounds different for each player where as everyone I have ever heard playing the Tyros sound the same with its polished shiny overproduced sound.
    All in All the Pa4x is the players instrument and the Tyros seems more at home, well in the home.
    Last up you will have a hard job getting better service than at Bonners Music which is where I got my Pa4x 76, Tony is such a knowledgeable and nice guy always on hand to provide answers and solutions to any questions that you might have and I had many !!!! :) and other than being a customer at Bonners I have no other ties and so can provide a impartial review of the product and service.

    PA3x was launched 2 years before the Tyros 5, so we have to compare the products which are available to purchase at the time of making the video, which in November 2015 there are only two choices: PA4x or Tyros 5. Maybe Tyros 6 will arrive in 2 years time!

      I always like to see reviewers do comparisons on the authenticity of drum sounds and accompaniments especially on arrangers & workstations, however, no one seems to care. This is a great video. Thank you so much.

    I can tell you,when i was using a Tyros style,mostly of the people stand up and come to the dance floor.That not happend so often with korg styles.The sound its to brutal.Its very good for live performance whenyou play with a drummer,bass player and so...
    Its good for us they improved those keyboards arrangers.
    So, i've sold all arrangers i had and im waiting for my new one, Ketron SD 9.Hopefully its a friendly one
    Thats true,the piano on Korg it sounds very good,distorsion guitar also,some synths,brass,drums and ofcourse the touch its way better then Yamaha.

    I had Tyros 4 and Korg pa3x at the same time. I have to say they had both pros and limitations. I'm always in love with Korg. Actually I have a Kronos 2 88 which I love. When Tyros 5 came out, I finally decided to get it and I was sad to leave pa3x. However the sound quality, the organ world, the quartet technology and the sound articulation + 76keys finally available, convinced me to upgrade. I'm very satisfied cause the sound output has been improved. Guitar sounds and amp simulations are realistic. There is also a wide possibility to edit styles like Korg. sequencer has its own strange way to work but the possibility to record audio on track proved useful. Of course the general live playability, the possibility to easily remove parts of the accompany and change while playing, the sensible part of the keyboard for chord recognition and bass inversion still miss me too much. I'm a pianist after all and I would like to play piano for n the whole keyboard, maintaining the harmony while singing but without listen to the bass on my left side. Ok everything can be programmable on Tyros but it can be very boring to memorize every styles that way. Having now prepared lot of tracks and memories and having bought three sound libraries (fantastic!) I don't see and listen in the Korg pa4x a superiority (except for the midi to style conversion) able to convince me to loose all the advantages from Tyros. I hope next model will include arpeggiator as the psr970 and maybe dimensions reduced as Korg pa4x and Tyros will definitely continue to be my choice for arrangers category.

    Having recently sold my T5 I have no regrets I just did not find it all that. Some of the features were good but not great, maybe the best sound was the Church Organ or Organ Pipes, they really sounded amazing. As for the PA4x wow - my friend just purchased it a few days ago and I had a blast on it and it blew me away. As for some talking about the complexities of the user interface I can understand the T5 being much simpler but then its actually not in the same league as the PA4x and the 4x just has far more control and settings you can define etc and its not that complicated. There are my two pennies worth - go for the PA4 x and ditch the plastic toys r us looking T5...^^

  • @GaryMCurran
    @GaryMCurran 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Either Korg has gotten a WHOLE lot better since the PA3X, or Yamaha has taken about four steps backwards with Tyros 5. Personally, I think that the volumes weren't set correctly, and that the Yamaha suffered greatly because the headphone amp may be hotter than the Korg's, and Tony turned it down to match headphone outputs.
    What I really would like to see is a MIDI file, tweaked for each keyboard, using the best sounds, and then run each into a mixer, and set the volume levels there.
    I have a PA800, and it's obvious that the PA4X has much better sounds that the PA800, or even the PA3X, and I applaud Korg for finally doing that. Of course, don't have the money to get one, but if truth be told, I'd like one of each, and play to each's strong points.

    Ambos son muy buenos y hasta con prestaciones similares, pero hay factores muy importantes que me hacen
    inclinarme por el Korg, en especial en cuanto a su sistema operativo, memoria
    ROM y efectos, como también en relación a la construcción de uno y otro, que en
    el Korg es sin duda muy superior, con mejores materiales y más compacto, en
    cuanto al tema de los sonidos…, algunos en el Yamaha son mejores que los del
    Pax4, pero otros lo son en el Korg, por lo que siendo tan similares en ese
    sentido y tomando en cuenta lo anterior siento que se inclina la balanza a
    favor de Korg, a todo esto hay que sumar lo del precio, ya que es bastante más
    barato, con alrededor de los US$1500 menos que en el Yamaha, en cualquiera de
    sus versiones (76 o 61 teclas) hay otro factor que va por el lado de lo estético
    y que es cosa de gustos, pero para el mío, el color del Tyros es horrible y junto
    a los materiales con que lo han construido y a las lucecitas de colores, lo hacen
    ver como tecladito de juguete. También debemos tener claro que el Pax4 no es
    una simple actualización como lo es en el caso de Tyros 5, sino que es una totalmente
    nueva y revisada versión, por todo eso y si tomamos en cuenta lo que mencionaba
    acerca del mejor sistema operativo de Korg y los efectos pues la decisión es
    clara, el Pa4X es sin duda la elección más inteligente…

      Excelente elección, y sí, el precio es una de las muchas razones
      para elegir el PA4X sobre el Tyros, también es verdad lo que mencionas de los
      sonidos, pero si lo piensas en realidad no es que el Tyros tenga algunos
      sonidos mejores, en la mayoría de los caos es que tienen más efecto, como reverberación
      o delay, cosa que es fácil de arreglar editando, un saludo cordial!

    I was very surprised how incredibly realistic the Korg PA4x sounds, I thought I was going to be underwhelmed. Although in general the
    Korg PA4x sounds more realistic I
    still prefer the Tyros 5 for quite a few reasons. One reason I prefer the saxophone sounds on the Tyros
    5 which brings me to my next reason the legacy sounds, you also
    get all the sounds from previous Tyros keyboards including Tyros 1 and
    Tyros 2 so the Tyros 5 gives you the best of both worlds. In addition to all the newer sounds you
    do also get some of the older digitized
    sounds as well as XG and general midi 2 sounds with any Tyros and with Genos although with Genos you can only use the XG sounds to
    revoice songs and rhythms you can't play them on the keyboard unless you load an XG folder via a USB thumb drive.

But still that does not say much because there are a lot of piano sounds and modifications and equalizers can also do a lot. I would be happy with each of them if I saved enough euros...

  • @carlweiderick
    @carlweiderick 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Tony. Great videos! I really like the PA4X. I live in a rural area of Canada and don't have access to a great store like yours with lots of keyboards to try out. I am interested in the PA4X and the Yamaha PSR-S970. I realize that this is comparing 'apples to oranges' but while the Yamaha is a second choice, it is less than half the price of the Korg. I could afford the additional cost but it would 'hurt'. I am a mediocre keyboardist, still learning. One question is concerning the quality of the buttons and hardware and keys (I understand that they are weighted on the Korg), comparatively. The second question concerns the availability of a 76 key board on the Korg vs. 61 on the Yamaha. How important do you think that would be? Do you think the considerable extra cost is warranted (for me) for the Korg or am I likely to be satisfied with the Yamaha? In spite of my limited talent, this unit would see heavy use at home and performing. I realize that you don't know me and would be just speculating but I would appreciate you opinion. Thanks!

      Hi Carl. Really, if you are looking at the Yamaha equivalent to the PA4x it would be the Tyros 5. The PSR-S970 is more on par with the Korg PA900, however if you are looking for a good quality, less expensive model, then the PSR-S970 is a very good option. In fact, it has many features that are found on the Tyros 5. With regards to quality, you can't really go wrong with Korg or Yamaha models. Needing the 61 or the 76 notes is really down to personal preference and your playing style. I hope this helps!

    Dear Bonners Music, I know they are completely different machines however, what would you say if you compare the sound quality of Pa4x and Korg Kronos2? Thank you.

      @bonnersmusic  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi, The Pa4x has many sounds and samples taken form the Kronos series, but the Kronos has overall better quality sound engine and higher quality audio output. They are two completely different instruments aimed at different types of player.

    Korg PA4x is that it is much better than the Yamaha Tyros 5, wanted to buy the Yamaha but not anymore, I'll buy the Korg In addition to being smaller in size than I like to transport their exelentes voices, it looks much better, thanks for the video, is very good.

    I´m a happy Tyros 5-76keys owner and can say, Yamaha did an excellent job. Must tell, the both keyboards are beasts and each of them highlights a typical nuance of a given instrument. For me, Yamaha has more exciting voices,
    especially guitars, ensembles, strings and woodwinds. Not to mention the Audio-Styles, real-time controllers, more user-friendly interface.
    At my side, a slight minus for Yamaha: it is a bit overpriced. However, this is my subjective opinion according to my experiences.
    Regarding this comparison, good job guys.

    Korg sounds beefier especially on the piano..a no contest..the tyros sound thin and weedy in comparison but the yamaha boards just seem a lot easier to use and all the sounds just seem to gel better but neve rthe less its an interesting comparison

  • @Asly65
    @Asly65 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Le son du Korg est plus chaud, plus Jazzy mais le Tyros5 le surpasse aux percussions, c'est dû à l’expérience de Yamaha dans les batteries électroniques.

    Is it me or is this completely biased towards the korg? Chosen sounds in the typos are nowhere near the full potential of the keyboard. I can watch other comparisons on TH-cam and throw sounds completely different. Not saying one is better than the other. I don't own and don't plan to own any of them.

      No it is definitely not just you, there was an obvious bias towards the Korg, it got more airplay as it were and I could not believe that the solo violin was only played on the Korg and not at all on the Yamaha, why? Especially since Yamaha has a wow solo violin! More string and sax samples were similarly one sided.
