Sound - voices comparison between the Korg Pa4X 76 and Yamaha PSR-SX900 arranger keyboards. Everything you hear is factory sound without master FX, compressor, etc. EQ is on flat mode on both models. Signals are routed to the mix Soundcraft Signature 12, withou any EQ correction and send to the PC via USB cable into Cubase Elements 9.5.
So no custom tweaks or false representation. I recommend listening through great quality speakers or headphones to hear clearly the differences.

Yamaha is 2x cheaper but it's better than Korg.

Most people fight on small things choose what you prefer both are excellent keyboard yet both have there ups and downs.

Sounds or voices are always matter of taste.. But there are some distinctive differences. Yamaha is voiced more for home user, where everything blend well together for standalone playing, without much fiddling. Also sound output frequency is very V shaped in Yamaha, which most people like. But that is bad in live gigs as sound can quickly become tiny at top end and boomy at bottom end disturbing low end instruments, like bass guitar, drums, etc,. This is where Korg dominate with frequency voicing of their gear for live environment performances. So Korg voices ar just cutting out in the mix so much better
Is it possible to adjust Yamaha sounds for live gigs. Can we use DA box to bring out the sound more boomy??
Do you notice any difference in feel when playing both keyboards? which one do you think is better in this regard? Thanks

The problem with this and all Yamahas is you're stuck with what you buy it with. The Korg PA's let you import any sound/sample you want and edit them to perfection.
Actually, Yamaha's keyboards give you expansion memory, and you can make an expansion pack with almost any samples you may have.
Yamaha doesn't let you edit even a 20th of what you can do on any Korg PA series arranger. Try putting anything on the SA2 buttons and then try to do the same on the DNC buttons. Try setting the EQ on every layer on Yamaha then do that on the Korg. Try looping samples for Yamaha then try looping for Korg. Trying basic ADSR, tuning, mix, and FX setup for the individual drum kit parts by family on the Yamaha then do that on Korg. Epic fail for Yamaha

If you are a sound engineer and would like to manipulate all the parameters to make the voice as you like, go for KORG .
If you are only a musician and just want something to compose a song, go for Yamaha.
Not every musicians are sound engineer.

Korg sounds fuller and better. No question. Many of that Yamaha voices sound like toys. By the way, there're rumors about the Pa5X coming out this year.
Thank you for your comment. I have the same opinion as you. Korg has tight, concrete sounds. It doesn't use as much FX as Yamaha. That's why it sounds less sweet. But in my opinion, Yamaha excels in its simplicity, the friendliness of the system. I have been using Yamaha for more than 15 years and I have extensive experience with it. It's great for learning to play on keyboards for beginners.
it seems obvious to me since pa4x costs twice as much. The sx900 has a very good chance if you work with it a bit. The guitar of pa4x is horrible in comparison for example

If you look around you can pickup brand new PA4x's for 3 grand.

Yamaha wins for acoustic guitar, brass, some EDM synths, and drum kits. Korg won for electric guitar. Also, for editing, Korg wins at more advanced editing than Yamaha. Overall, both of the keyboards are not bad, depending on your overall taste.
Nice video! Korg PA4X is a professional instrument (is normal to sound better) and SX900 is not, but is a compact one 11 kg with very good features and sounds that make it very valuable. Thanks for posting.
Korg pa 4x is uncomparable board ,better sx 900 has competition with pa 900 not the pa 4x.....

I believe the Korg PA 1000 would have been a better comparison with the SX900.
I had pa4x and it sounded flat to me, I sold it and got a Yamaha. The pa4x in this video has the master EQ adjusted to make it sound better
Sono tanto indeciso tra questa e la KORG Nautilus... A me piace molto co porre brani musicali utilizzando molto il sequencer della tastiera. In passato ho avuto una PSR S970 e devo dire che aveva dei bei suoni e accompagnamento, tuttavia aveva un sequencer poco intuitivo. Questa nuova fascia di tastiere che sono modelli nuovi di quella che avevo io, non saprei se abbiano un sequencer più semplice e intuitivo. Comunque sia non saprei quale scegliere, anche della KORG be parlano bene, però io non ho mai avuto KORG, ho sempre avuto Yamaha. Un consiglio? Grazie

Korg is a music work station and Yamaha is a music synthesizer so the price is also quite different Korg more expensive than Yamaha.

I don't know the sound names on the PA4x, so I'm going by the Yamaha names.
For all the acoustic pianos, Yamaha wins by far. It's hard to tell for the CP80.
For the DX voices, Yamaha wins.
For the harmonica, Yamaha wins for the sound itself, but Korg wins for the things you can do with the sound.
Yamaha wins for the accordions. For the organs, both can be used in different situations; there's no clear winner here.
For the ConcertGuitar, Yamaha wins, but it's pretty close.
For the SteelGuitar, it's close again, but Yamaha wins again.
For the next one, I like Korg's sound more, but Yamaha's sounds more like the azz guitars I've heard.
For the next one, Yamaha wins. There's one voice where on the Korg, there is a very high note played instead of a lower one. For some of the electric guitars, Korg wins. FOr most, though, Yamaha definitely wins.
Yamaha is a clear winner for the violins and choir voices, but Korg wins for the muted trumpet (because of the things you can do with it).

It's the same thing for the rest, until we get to the flute. Yamaha wins by far. Korg wins for the clarinet, but it's close. Whatever that is at 16:04, I like it a lot more than Yamaha's version. For basses, Yamaha wins.
Korg wins for the slap bass for the lower notes, but Yamaha wins after the low F.
For the first drums, they're both good fo rdifferent situations, but I like Korg's sound at 20:08 than I liked Yamaha's sound at 20:12.
It sounds as if there's wave cycling for some of the drums on the PA4x. Korg wins for some of the drums, but Yamaha wins for most of them.

@@FikoVelasco con todo respeto amigo deberías leer mejor el manual de korg Pax4 porque tiene 3 gb también que el genos por algo korg no saco algo mejor que genos para competir . Ló mismo yo lo digo por experiencia y por qué lo tuve al genos . Los dos teclados son buenísimos cada uno tiene lo suyo pero lamentablemente Yamaha por ser un teclado de alta gama y caro a la vez deberían tener mejor estructura y no que sea de plástico y unas teclas de juguetes sin peso. Veo que te gusta el Yamaha y está bien !!! Pero tienes que reconocer que Korg es bueno también . Saludos 🖖🏻

If you're a home tinkerer then maybe. But nobody is going to drag a computer and Ableton live to a show and load up samples.
Equipment is for professionals, midi is for hobbiests

Psr series was never a professional keyboard...Korg pa4 is too big fish to compare!! Should compare with Genos vs Korg pa4! Yamaha makes arranger keyboards for midifile player home-players! Korg and Ketron makes more for real musicans!
