Back in the ‘70’s when I still was able to hunt, we only had Broadhead’s, field tips and Judo Points. The Judo Points back in the day were made a lot tougher than now. They lasted through hitting rocks, stumps and bunnies. Still had my original 1970’s Judo Points when I had to give hunting up and sell off my gear.

I would think however that for squirrels you might want one of the blunt tip types so you wouldn't end up with an arrow stuck in the trunk of a tree some 25 feet up.
Enjoyed seeing someone so skilled at taking cotton tails.

The blunt or bludgeon tips are specifically marketed for squirrels for that very reason.

Enjoyed your video. Ive used all but 2 of the heads mentioned. The only disagreement I had, was the bludgeon. I keep Judos and G5's in my quiver but I always have 2 bludgeons in quick reach on my backpack when hunting elk. We have a lot of forest grouse in the Rocky Mountains where I hunt elk. Kinda like a big tasty chicken. The bludgeon is always the first to shoot. The grouse fly into the trees and we head shoot them but obviously the arrow flies right on thru and you lose your arrow. So we've start lining the grouse up with the trunk of the tree and the bludgeon goes right thru the bird and bounces off the tree trunk to the ground. Every other point ive used has stuck in the tree, so you lose your arrow again. Anyways great video, jealous of the year around hunting opportunities you guys have. Keep it up!

Good one mate lots of bunnies about. The g5 small game heads are a good point for bunnies. The arms will snap or bend if you hit rocks or stumps but face it most heads will. Just hurts when they are expensive. A small heavy duty washer behind a field tip hits bunnies hard and stops them in there tracks. Good job man ;)

I noticed the same thing on bludgeons for 30 yard/meter shots. They are fat on the end and tend to act like a parachute at that range. Still like them though. Tougher than you think, don't snake under the grass, and the rubber tip helps protect the arrow. If you shoot heavier broadheads, for any of these small game heads, you can put #10 washers behind them to increase forward weight. Each washer weighs about 12 grains. I put three behind the bludgeon and it takes the 125 gr up to 160 gr.

Definitely left a like, really solid video! I did notice though that if you slow it down you can see that the bludgeon hits the ground before it hits the rabbit! Still a solid shot at 30m but makes me wonder how it would have done with a direct hit.

Meh. No compromise. My fixed broadheads kill cleanly, and drop the gut sack out in one action. Less mess. Better kills. Even though they're vermin it's shit to wound and not kill cleanly. Nice breakdown man, same thoughts on judos. Off to the workshop,....

  • @xxshooterxxdm
    @xxshooterxxdm 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

There is a lot to say about this review of sgh it's a good one but a lot is wrong some what. That's a lot of bow for shooting small game. I would say if you went to a lighter bow, say 40 lbs with a compound or 50 with a stick bow , I think the review would favor the sgh different. In traditional archery the blunt heads and the judo points are king. Alot of the heads you are using were just not designed to be used with that much power and velocity; that's why they get mangled up real bad. The rabbit you shot with the first blunt hit the ground first is why it was not that effective. And you did not give them but one chance per tip not a very fair chance considering shot placement was different on each rabit.

Insta kill and no meat loss. I have also used the g5's but preferred bludgeon, can't remember why, which probably means I should test em again.

  • @mikeponti2605

I've tried each one myself and yeah the blunt tips suck. But you didn't review the western adder which i believe to be the best. G5s kill well too but those finger offsets break off almost any time you miss. So they are pretty pricey for what you call a single shooter. Where I live i kill tons on rock chucks and ground squirrels with the occasional jack rabbit

On .25 speed play back rate it looks like you just missed on #2. Looks like shot was low.

You hit the dirt in front of the rabbit with the bludgeon tip..

Maybe try these again against a ballistic gel block , so you can slow motion capture the power of the hit and close up

Sure do mate there so that when they hit the ground the arrow doesn’t bury into the ground d it will just stay on top

@@mitchcondell6727 yes I suppose that was an asinine question. I was thinking of weather I would want to risk breaking spendy arrows or cheap but a clean accurate shot is important too. Respect and good video

The video footage shows you clearly hit the ground in front of the rabbit with the bludgeon so I would not call that a fair test of the bludgeon.

I've used the judos..... they're rubbish!!
I've used the G5's they're well overpriced and tend not to fly straight after a few hits!!
The best all round small game head, value for money, durability over time and accuracy is the SGT, I've taken rabbits, possums, ducks, wild cats and peacocks etc with them.
Some bowhunters ref to them as "War-hammers" though🤔
(Cause apparently they look like some figurine war hammer 🙄)
