Probably the coolest hunts we have ever been apart of, we had the opportunity to head to a local pheasant farm in Pennsylvania and fling some arrows at some flying birds Tim Wells style!

Glad I came across this video. For starters, thank you. You guys practiced, worked hard, and gave it your best! Two suggestions: 1) ditch the compounds and hunt with a short recurve (like a 1967 Fred Bear Super Kodiak Magnum made in Grayling MI) and 2) drop the custom wire bird heads and replace with a smaller profile broadhead (your arrow flight is losing way too much with that contraption hanging on the front). The flu-flus are good. Now go practice snap shooting at moving targets....mostly stuff rolled or thrown across the ground. Shoot with a good glove, use good form (watch old Fred Bear or Saxton Pope videos). STOP AIMING! Use the Force, Luke! Good luck

@@jasonsmith6497 yeah that’s Tim Wells, a living legend. But I agree what they have is fine, just practicing a lot more would help. Now saying that I shoot a recurve for small game, but that doesn’t mean you have to.
What lbs is the max you suggest someone would pull on small game and such? I shoot 50 arrows a day @45lbs waiting on a heavier bow
@@NotoriousEgg89 I would say 45 lbs is fine for small game. I shoot a 55 lb bow because I hunt deer also, but it works just fine on rabbits.

Great video...french pointer (type Pyrenees?) Training our two pups for their first certs now -- our 3rd and fourth French pointers, though my latest boy is the Gasgogne type. No better hunting dogs we've ever seen...

Yeah I'm no pro but you guys need to get a different setup if you're gonna do some wing shooting with a bow. Definitely ditch the releases and sights and like somebody else said I would ditch the compound. But stick with it and keep practicing
If you guys are gonna hunt them without sights it would be much easier to aim and see the trajectory of the bird and arrow with a higher anchor point.

Not to be rude this is more of a tip. But when you draw your bow your elbow needs to be up. Having your elbow tucked in you loose strength.

I'm curious if a heavy fish arrow flu flu would work .and trying to hold your aim just long enough to be accurate at anchoring the bird, shooting to soon or rushing the shot is the challenge. Nice attempt at documenting a bow bird hunt, make another video if you can.
Over geared get a dedicated recurve or longbow specific for pheasant hunting just my two cents?

Where do y’all live where you can shoot so many including hens here we can only shoot three rosters and no hens
we were at a private farm! Here in PA we can only shoot 2 roosters on public land, but we didn’t want to do this hunt on public and risk having arrows flying everywhere!
in my country, Indonesia, pheasants are kept as pets because they have beautiful feathers. 🫠😐

Man that is pheasant paradise. Well not so much for the pheasants. But you should really try recurve or longbows. Takes more practice, but becomes more intuitive/instinctive and you would have better success. Using sights and a compound bow doesn't work so well with a moving target.
Tim wells would have utterly embarrassed you, with a recurve I’m sure.

what is that device in your firearm ?
From what I see, bird hunting is not for bows. Even in best of conditions and equipment with several shooters you still got only 1 lucky shot and probably lost many arrows, plus it's very tiring and a bit dangerous to run around with ready to fire bow.
It’s not the best option but Tim wells shoots a lot of birds with his bow

I hope that you’re not just killing for a sport. It would be easier if you shoot instinctive. I think that 90% of the compound shots are missed:))) don’t run with the compound bow in your hands…

Wild pheasant in our area in PA are extremely rare. All game lands are stocked near us but we went to a preserve to be safe so arrows weren't flying towards other hunters!
I shoot wild pheasant. Nothing hard about it at all
