It still was heart breaking to know that there are others in this world that must depend on the kindness of strangers and trust that the world will be safe. Makes me terribly grateful for the things like hearing and vision that I so often take for granted.

@@PapillonOne For sure. I agree. But also, remember that most people are good and want to help. The baddies are few and far between although media would have us believe otherwise. Whenever I have been in trouble, be it getting robbed abroad and being left far from home without even a penny to get there, breaking my ankle abroad again whilst alone (I love solo travel) etc etc, I have been amazed at the angels who just appeared in front of me as if by magic! :)

So , when I see this , I felt somwhat identified and related with this character who is got way worse case of being blind and deaf than me. Sometimes I whine or get gloomy because of my limitations and condition but this help me be graceful of things I have and it relieves my self conciosness of my condition. Sometimes I feel like weight for the people who I love and wonder if I can give something positive to society , to other people and myself.

This was a beautiful story. You keep waiting to see if Tereek will be rewarded for his kindness, but he wasn't. He hurt himself to help someone else and he knew he was doing so, but kept helping because he knew it was the right thing to do. That's how life is. Sometimes doing the right thing might cost you, but you still do it because it's the right thing to do.

He had unbelievable courage and resilience. I watched him fall, then get back up. Still, he maintained his dignity. He taught me so much about life as a blind person. I love and miss him sooo much. I was in Baltimore city after a car accident. My wife was in surgery in shock trauma. Almost lost her arm. I was out front of the hospital smoking a cigarette. A gentleman walked up to me and asked for change. Its Baltimore city. So certainly not uncommon. I didn't have much and my mind was elsewhere. I said I really don't have it. My wife was just in a accident....He said well " I just died" and walked away. I thought about it for literally one second and turned around to give him the 50 cents or whatever was in my pocket. He was gone. No where in site. This was about 8 or 9 years ago. I'll never forget it. Like it was yesterday. I learned a valuable lesson. And will always be left wondering what would have happened or not happened if I had just forgotten about myself and my situation for that one second and gave him the change in my pocket. Was it an angel. Was it someone that truly passed away or a homeless man with a sick sense of humor. I'll forever never know. I believe it was a spirit. My life took a horrible downward spiral for a long time after that night. I'm now clean and sober. Been married for almost 10 years. My wife didn't loose her arm. We lost our 5 month old German Shepherd puppy in the accident. You never know when you may have an angel staring right at you. Sometimes next time or another time should be that moment. Because you can't freeze time, rewind or chang the past.🙏😇

    Three lessons I picked here:
    1. Stop being busy all the time and look around you. Your little effort could make someone's day!
    2. Share your life. You don't need to be a millionaire to help others.
    3. _You're neither blind nor deaf._ You're more than capable. Let go of your excuses!
*PS: The third point is talking to me of the excuses and imaginary limitations I always set for myself. It's telling me that there are people breaking barriers, achieving much more with the little they have (or been given).*
*_Play the cards that you're dealt, and stop putting yourself in a box because perfection is a myth!_*

It's often a lesson in how not to be judgemental, but mostly it's the people who are dressed up like they're playing a character in a movie that is the most challenging. In the end, I'm just happy and grateful for the individual that I am and the life that I have.

    • @cosmicstargazer10

Talyia Lyia, I love your message :0) It's so true, some people have a swinging brick where their heart should be. But, like you say, together, I feel we CAN use it, our heart. There needs to be a contagion of love, us spreading it around, being happy to catch it - not even being selective where we put it, as long as it doesn't cause anyone to be compromised. It certainly won't kill anybody, like many other things that you can catch! Even when/ if we come across people who aren't lovely, they still, like all of us, do need to be loved. Love the fool who cut in the line, love the silly ass that dropped litter. We have to be the change we want to see. We can't expect people to care if we don't, if we aren't pushing for that change. Say to the line-cutter "hey, how would you like it, you cutting in essentially means the person at the back is missing their chance, that they've already waited for" & hope it makes them think. There's no point calling them names, if they're the kind of person that cuts in lines, calling them names will only reinforce their supposed entitlement to behave unfairly. Appealing to their better nature has a better chance, try to kill with kindness. You pick up that litter & put it in the bin, right in front of the person who dropped it, in the hope that it makes them think. Someone calls you names, say "thank you, for giving me names, you have names too" & leave it at that, try not to resort to flinging insults. It's not easy though, because when you see people being abusive to other people, a natural instinct to protect & sometimes punish can come to the fore, without another thought. In this way, I admit, I do step in & I bully the bullies. I can't stand to see someone being treated unfairly, poorly, wrongly. But I have been trying, to be more understanding of the "why" someone might be that nasty, trying to be more balanced in my responses & remembering what mother said, "two wrongs don't make a right".

When I was working security in Boston, I got a call on the radio that a blind man needed help getting down the street to the train station. As i assisted him he held this huge smile on his face and asked me about the sights around us, He was so excited to feel the new fences from the scaffolding that was put up during construction. It was an area he was used to but the renovations made him unfamiliar, ill never forget his kind soul.
