Also a huge thank you to Omeleto for the wonderful write-up and for having us here in the first place.
Absolutely Beautiful. This one hit hard. I saw my dad go through cancer, he fought like a champ through it all, yet in the end, he said that he wanted to die in peace.
"...I'm in hell trapped in my own body..." That really hit me. While most people believe that being alive is a gift, it is not always the case for many. 😢😢😢
And as this short was very clear about - that is mostly because of modern medicine with far too much grey area - where's the best outcome for patient and where's just prolonged suffering due to "wonders of modern medicine" but not wonderful enough to actually make life bareable for those on receiving end ..

I watched this for the third time today. Partly because I could never quite catch the whole line that I did hear now, "with no help from the hippie biker or the junkie thief". It was not even among the 10 best parts of the dialogue in the movie but I obsessed over it. Today the Sadness of the whole thing Got me a little teary. Whereas the previous two times I watched it I knew it was sad, but I focused on the strength and the selfishness of the characters. Regardless this is absolutely one of the best stories I have ever seen on film. I never saw, "sometimes a great notion", but I read it. This is as good as story as that. Two friends of mine who also watched this gave it the same rave reviews. Way to go! I'm thanking you on behalf of the Galaxy.
This was the most tender, most adult and complex emotionally, story I have seen on Omeleto. Ths acting was perfect, and realistic. It didn't seem like a Film School final project like so many of these things. It was adult.
I know a lot of actors. I'm one myself. But I've seen no one who can portray another character like Jayson does and still be Jayson like Jayson does. This...was...brilliant.
After working in a nursing home for a million years I've think i have seen every end of life you can think of from difficult parents that their kids keep their distance, to very loving, caring siblings,( and the black sheep that shows up at the end), the only child, and grand children who are deeply affected by the tough, heart breaking decisions that have to be made. That being said, I wish you could make a film on the terrible grief that grandchildren have when they lose a grand parent. It's something I think is overlooked. You captured a lot in this short. Good work
This short is so immersive, has such strong vibes, and it cuts right to the core. (Other than the great story, writing & acting), what also stood out to me was how well it "uses" silence. I can only hope I will not have to face a situation like this any time soon...
It's more like the one who has the guts to do what is needed. The daughter loved him too much to let go. My mother in law gave the power to my husband because she knew her daughter would never let go. Tough time. Well done short
From your mouth to their ears. I'd like nothing more than another project with this amazing group. Shaun MacLean brought it all together. He's the champion here. Thank you for your kind words.
I lost my mother in 2021 under very difficult circumstances. The generational family trauma was brutal to deal with. I could not stop crying watching this beautifully crafted piece of cinematic art. Ty... It helped heal something within me. ♥️
Truth about her being adopted might eventually come out, but Chipper was dealing with decision of this particular moment, timing was everything, his actions had to be fast, but very well thought off and executed cause of seriousness of consequences, hence I think the authors chose well character of a biker - someone equipped to making fast life and death decisions fast, usually they have good moral code too, Imagine - daughter thinks she's doing everything in her power towards sick father as her duty, and then she's finding out that not only that is not appreciate it, but father figure decided to tell her she's not biological daughter...and only thing he wants to die...., but thanks to empathy of Chipper, she will find her father dead and grief, but at least with this thought in the head ( and from brother's imagination) that she was loved and appreciated,,,so even after while she discovers adoption, this wont change this final words from dying father to her ..
Of course, if the daughter finds out that her brother administered a fatal dose of whatever medication, he's potentially up for murder charges, especially now that he's burned the letter.
That's why he administered the dose between the toes. It's one place that's rarely checked, and his father probably died of a heart attack from the overdose. No indication that anyone would suspect Chipper of having morphine on him. Probably scored it from a friend. The filmmakers did their homework, for sure.
@@12thDecember You bring up a flaw in the film. On the day, we forgot to get a shot of the brother in the yard handing Chipper the box. That's where he got the ... whatever it is ... from. Many people have missed that. Also, in an earlier version, the phone calls with Carol had more exposition in them about the brother that we decided to cut. The calls went on a bit too long and slowed the film down but, it caused this hole in the plot for some. Editing is the hardest part of making films. Thank you so much for watching. @11:45, I knew EXACTLY what was happening. SPOILERS: As someone who has been living with a brain tumor that was supposed to have killed me in 2020, coupled with finding out years ago that my oldest sister wasn't my dad's biological daughter, this video hit me like a freight train. It is so difficult to endure this, and having people to tell me to keep fighting...I can't even begin to describe exactly how difficult it is to not just give up and let go. I can't even imagine being trapped in my own body for so long, and being kept alive against my will because a loved one doesn't want to let go of you. As for my sister, she is 100% my sister. I was there when my mom told her out of anger that our dad wasn't her biological dad. It happened 35 years ago, but the memory is so fresh, it feels as though it happened. The pain of seeing my sister break down uncontrollably when we heard this is a piece of me, much like this tumor. I just want to be at peace. I'm not afraid of dying, but I am absolutely TERRIFIED at the thought of leaving my wife and my baby girl alone in this world. Sometimes, you don't need people to physically hold you here. A single thought can keep you anchored here, long after you have been mentally broken and are ready to let go. This short film has wrecked me, but it was so beautifully told. I NEEDED this release. Thank you so much to writers Ruckus and Layne Skye, and director Shaun MacLean, for one of the best short films I've seen featured on Omeleto.
If you ever get to a point, where you need a machine to help you survive, then I think that you could just refuse the machine, and then take any drug that numbs any suffering.
I read your note last night and re-read it again this morning. First off, thank you for your kind words. The first time I read the script, I was moved and terrified as well. At that time both of my parents were doing fine. In the intervening six years before we actually made the film, things changed drastically for me. Both my parents came very close to death but have survived. Both are alive and well but one of them isn't enjoying the time they have now at all. Coincidentally it's my dad. He isn't trapped like Chipper's dad but not far off from that. We hoped this film would help people like Chipper and Carol see that they are not alone but, what didn't occur to me until reading your note, was the effect it might have on a person who may be the one who isn't well. Now I know. Thank you for sharing. All I can say is, I hope that the needed release for you is beneficial to you and your family's life in some way. Thanks again for watching.
@@jaysonwsmithThank you for continuing to participate in the comment section. It means a lot to me that the film creators are willing to participate. Often times, they impact our lives, and when we ask questions, these people don't reply.
I liked this. It was good to see a thoughtful story without any injected ideological rhetoric, unnecessary use of sexuality, profanity or cheap thrills. Well done.
I saw it coming the second he offered money to the nurse... I understand his actions are driven by compassion, but by letting his judgement be clouded by emotions, now he will likely face murder charges. And he burned the letter! The death will be considered suspicious and an autopsy will reveal the needle mark, and then Carol will blame the nurse, but the nurse will say she was not in the house, and Carol will not have second thoughts wanting to throw him in jail. And the money he offered the nurse to leave him alone with his dad will probably count as premeditation, so he may as well face a first-degree murder charge. Notice how he doesn't use any gloves, so he doesn't even attempt to conceal the action. He probably did not see his action as murder, but it still was.
These things were discussed at length. In my opinion the hero doesn't try to get away with it ... the villain does. Reese gives everyone what they need and takes nothing for himself. I'd love your thoughts on this.
So Adesuwa is a Bini woman with a kind of a Caribbean accent. She is not an impossible character, but the subtext heavily implies she's Nigerian who works in healthcare. Other than that, great film about love and sacrifice. No pun intended on that last word.
Every individual has a story. Every individual has desires, dreams, hopes...that may never come to fruition. Regrets, relationships left not mended and for what? Honesty is always best. Empathy and compassion for others... understanding other's perspectives. Self appraisal...are we ungrateful?...self absorbed?...self Righteous?...selfish?...arrogant?...prideful??? We all have fallen short. Life is short. Time is short. Thank your Creator Most High Father for sending His most precious Gift...His Only Son for us...giving us His All. FORGIVENESS and LOVE beyond measure.

Wow. This was heavy. Wish people chose the route of NOT hurting each other rather than what the typical path is.
Thanks for watching! I am interested in what you said. Please do elaborate if you'd like.
That was freakin’ awesome. Fictional slice of reality, so painful. Congrats! Finely acted! 👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you so much.
Loved it, beautiful story!
Thanks Erika. We greatly appreciate it. :)
Phenomenal all the way around.
Thank you so much for your high praise.
Great movie! Great acting!
Thank you. Very kind of you to say.
Of course, if the daughter finds out that her brother administered a fatal dose of whatever medication, he's potentially up for murder charges, especially now that he's burned the letter.
The caregiver can always testify in his defense.
Agreed. I'm curious, how do you feel about that? Should Chipper have tried harder to "get away with it"?
Please like and share.
@11:45, I knew EXACTLY what was happening. SPOILERS:
As someone who has been living with a brain tumor that was supposed to have killed me in 2020, coupled with finding out years ago that my oldest sister wasn't my dad's biological daughter, this video hit me like a freight train.
You have a lucky wife and offspring. God bless.
@@jaysonwsmithThank you for continuing to participate in the comment section. It means a lot to me that the film creators are willing to participate. Often times, they impact our lives, and when we ask questions, these people don't reply.
@@eugenetswong My pleasure.
I liked this.
It was good to see a thoughtful story without any injected ideological rhetoric, unnecessary use of sexuality, profanity or cheap thrills. Well done.
Glad we gave you a story you could enjoy.
Beautifully done.

Great one. One of the best!
Wow! That's high praise.
I was totally emersed.
That's great to hear. Means we did it right.
That being said, superb acting, and a very profound and humane portrayal of the internal struggle with grief, guilt and compassion.
These things were discussed at length. In my opinion the hero doesn't try to get away with it ... the villain does. Reese gives everyone what they need and takes nothing for himself. I'd love your thoughts on this.

Chipper was my husband's nickname. That was a hard decision for that young man to make. Don't know that I could do it myself.
Thank you so much for watching and commenting. We greatly appreciate it.
Ok, that was the best til now!!! I would love to have a husband like him... Inga
Thanks Inga for the kind words.
Powerful. Relateable. Damn fine!
We appreciate it. Thanks for watching.
Wow, what a decent brother to do that to his 'sister'... just let it go....
Wow,that was intense
Too much so?
Until the autopsy comes back and finds out 'chipper' injected him with meth.
Do you feel Chipper knew that as he was doing it or did he think he'd "get away with it".

Ouch.... too close to home
We understand. We have heard that from time to time. This dilemma affects so many. Thanks for watching though.
Uncle Remus said too close to home...
Interesting allusion. Growing up in Atlanta, I know all about Uncle Remus, Br'er Rabbit, Bear and Fox.
if the father has advance directives his daugther cant make decisions for him.
Why was she trying to keep him alive anyway?
I have learned first hand how true this is.

So Adesuwa is a Bini woman with a kind of a Caribbean accent. She is not an impossible character, but the subtext heavily implies she's Nigerian who works in healthcare. Other than that, great film about love and sacrifice. No pun intended on that last word.
Brittany is a wonderful American actor based in Atlanta.

@@jaysonwsmith damn i watched again because you replied and im bawling like a baby again. It is true this is real life. When one of my dogs got ill i thought what if i have to put him down ,my heart surely cannot fathom that.
