My husband just passed away and I'm going through the exact same situation. My husband took care of everything concerning the house: surveillance cameras, cell phones, smart TV, pool and vehicle maintenance...I'm at a complete loss. I'm having to learn everything from scratch, and what I can't learn I have to pay people to do them for me. I am alone in my state and have to do everything myself to pack and get my house ready to sell and move to another state where my only child and her family live. With two dogs and two vehicles. So many things to go through and sell, including two trailers and a race car. I miss him so much.

Jesus, I am so sorry for your loss. My husband takes care of ours as well and has for 28 years. I can't imagine what this has been like for you. I pray you are able to find some strength to help you find peace right now as you grieve your loss. ❤❤

I am so, so sorry for your loss. I worked at a cell phone store for three years, and the story told in this film happened four separate times. It never got easier, and I know each and every person I worked with hurt as much as you are now. I know it must be incredibly difficult to not only be going through this, but also to be so open about it and sharing it with us. It means the world to me that you were able to do so, and while things may be difficult now, I hope the best for you and your family as you start a new chapter with your child and her family.

I worked in a library for many years. It was encounters like these that made it all worth it. Books were only the backdrop on the drama. Providing accurate information was only the pretext. I remember so many people ("patrons", we called them) like James and how, while remaining professional, I was able to break all the rules and be a human being with feelings and compassion and sympathy. This film brought me to tears.

What a beautiful glimpse into the best of customer service. And I mean that as a person who has worked over 10yrs in customer service. It was such encounters as this that made it so worthwhile. Even though the unfavorable guest interactions far outnumbered the meaningful ones - just that one time knowing you learned something, witnessed something, or in some small way contributed something that represents the true meaning of life love or humanity - those moments have stayed with me for decades.
Derek here wont forget this encounter for a very long time.
Thank you also for showing how much a little bit of effort, care or sacrifice on your part can go towards getting another person through some very bad times.

Great short story... I'm a combat Vietnam Veteran who has also been an artist all my life... every VN Vet I've exhibited with and have been friends with have died... most from Cancer (Agent Orange/Dioxin Poisoning related health issues) ... I live alone, as the wife passed years ago and I've been dealing with several related health issues... that little 100% disability payment does little and means even less. I would rather have my friends to talk about our art or our personal experiences in combat, something I can't with people who have no real concept of 330 days in the jungle fighting to survive .... to date the US VA has posted over 300,000 American solders have died after returning do to their exposure to Dioxin... and no one cares. We were patriots like our fathers and uncles before us... only to die alone.

Letting go is one hardest things to do in life. One of my favorite family members was my Uncle John. We had this negative banter with each other which came from a much deeper affection. He passed away a couple of years ago. Before that, he left me a voice message, on a stand alone, in house, landline messaging system (talk about old tech), wishing me a happy birthday and telling me that he loved me. something he had never done before. I saved the recording and listen to it from time to time when I can hold back the tears. I will probably never erase it, even if it means keeping that antiquated technology!

I knew where the story was going from the start when James sat in his car.
You all caught the nuances of grief.
It is recognizable and heart breaking.
    The actors are wonderful.
My husband was killed along with many others. Most institutions i had to deal with were actually prepared that a customer may report a loss from the event, and need help navigating financial accounts, statements, name changes. Most, but not all.
I remember finally yelling at one arrogantly rude brusque young man. He talked to me like i was a fraud. I told him feel free to look us up, I called from a listed number landline inside our listed home address. I ended up crying and hanging up. I called again the next day because it had to be done.
But most were compassionate and professional.

This has to be the best story I've been told in many many years. Sometimes I wonder how it would be when my mother dies... I'll have to go through this. Even every relationship I've been in felt like this. A devastating situation, that still shows you that you can use the pieces to keep building your road ahead. It's weird, I cried.

In an era that most everything has become impersonal, crossing the one person who brakes the (man made rules), in the name of humanity is what makes the humanity remain alive.
In my book, this short is absolutely timeless on several levels. For one, there are always times that older generation stay behind in keeping with new technology so this particular experience that James and Derek are experiencing will remain applicable for any other era. Also the sense of universality of this short is what keeps this piece timeless. Finally it is the humanity in this film has a transcending notion about it that doesn’t stop with a specific time.

When my dad then mom passed, I'd saved their last messages to me, for my son as well as myself. I lost thst blackberry in a moving truck accident situation. Many times since lost Mom in 2009 i desperately wish I still had it😢

Just thought that twist might be interesting too. Beautifil acting especially by the widower. Once it is revealed why he is behaving the way he does, one can feel the pain in every word and every silence between them!
