I know this story too well. It gets to the point where talking about the old days is the only common ground with a bestfriend that you had to leave behind.
Doesn’t necessarily mean you still won’t be close though! I have friends who we’ve turned out very differently to each other but the friendship still remains :)
TRUE😭...I really missing those days I spent with friends...now when they settled with family...I still have that sweet memories of our childhood days 😭🍃🍂🍁
This wasn't about leaving a place where your from... This is about moving on in a relationship between friends. This has happened to me a few times in my life with a couple of buddies of mine.... One left for a technical school out of state, and that night at the bar as we were talking about the past, I knew after that night, I would never see him again..That was twenty years ago... I relocated for work and as I was loading up the moving truck to leave, the last of my good friends helped me pack... I knew I would never see them again either... That was seventeen years ago.... Now, with a wife and a kid, a house and a dog, I look back and just smile at the good times we had...
I’m Abraham Adeyemi, the writer-director behind No More Wings. I’m a bit overwhelmed by how many comments there are already 😳😲🥺 very much loving reading them! Thank you all so much for watching and feel free to ask any questions, I’d be happy to answer and talk about this movie that has changed my life very quickly. Hope as many of you as possible enjoy it, and share it with your friends and family! ❤️
Hollywood should take note: this is how you write dialog between two people. Writing normal, warm, and deeply meaningful conversations seems to be lost skill.
This is such a beautiful compliment, thank you. I hope I can continue to deliver that in all my films, I love hearing the kind of dialogue you described and always aim to have it in my own work. Hollywood is the aim so hopefully I can get there without needing to compromise on that. Thank you for watching :)
@@qman313 😅 I do often feel like when I’m watching films from years back with such amazing dialogue, I wonder if there’d have any chance of being made today. Before Sunrise, for example, which is one of my favourites. Here’s to hoping... 🙏🏾
@@LaKimAnahi This is my directorial debut. I've written a couple others but I'd humbly say this is my strongest piece of work. Looking forward to sharing more with the world...
I've entirely lost connection with all my friends but one. I still have everyone's number but I'm not on any social media where I follow them and vice versa. I officially moved on after finding out that true friendship absolutely requires reciprocated vulnerbality through honesty, which was constantly held back by all of our egos and insecurities. Of course they remain apart of who I am whether I love it or despise it, but I like to think that I had the privilege to share my time, my life with others, to not be alone - so for that I'm grateful.
@@Lyonessi most people are not really your friends. Once you realise that you'll stop trying to be friends with everyone, and be happy with only 2 or 3 true friends
@@rockyp32 yeah I feel that. And I’m sure there’s a lot of that. But I’ve also seen a guy be told “You’re not black anymore” cause he moved his family out of the projects with an accounting job As if doing something monetarily successful was selling everyone else out. So I think you’re right. But I think there is shaming that happens.
It's scary to be the one left behind. I know we are supposed to approach life at our own pace but watching people around us grow faster than we do is scary.
I literally how I feel about all of my friends from high school were still in touch and I feel like I was the one left behind in my best friend too we went to the same high school and we knew each other but we weren't friends at that time everyone they knew in high school too doing so well in life we're not doing badly but we feel like we are not what we thought we would be by the time we hit 30. My life didn't go as planned at all. And he never really had a plan and now we're both just here and we ended up being roommates finally best friends as roommates.
Dont compare yourself to others compare yourself to who you were yesterday and you will always make progress and climb that mountain going one step closer to your goal. Dont think about the past or the future stay in the present and move forward 👍🏻💪🏻. Good luck
I'm 61 and I still remember some of the guys I grew up with but never saw again after High School. Some went to college, others went to the military, and a few eventually went to prison. Long gone, but I still remember.
@@hurbm2443 seriously that’s what I think all the time, my parents and grandparents probably just forgot about 99% of people the day they graduated high school. But now there really is no excuse to lose touch if you truly value someone. You can communicate in an instant from anywhere
TheCasualTryHard I have goals and dreams I want to go after. That’s a lonely road man. People change and move apart. Even best friends. I’m a senior about to graduate. I’ve got my own business. I tried to start up some stuff with friends. None of them seem to have the dedication. I will always love them. We will keep up, but I’m sure I won’t always see them. It’s a lonely life sometimes
@@hurbm2443 of course technology will keep the roads together. Although, when you grow up. You’ve grown up. Many people you once kicked it with now seem like complete bozos. Much of it has to do with who you surrounded yourself as a youngster. Many of my old pals are either working minimum wage, locked up or dead. I thank god everyday for shining the light on my perception towards life because honestly without that i could of been easily like them with no point of return. A wise man once said, “ I done made it out the streets but my brothers still wilding.”
This feels like a conversation with two different sides of me. The part of me that wants to self sabatoge things, and the part of me that has to elevate
“Watch your thoughts, they become your words; watch your words, they become your actions; watch your actions, they become your habits; watch your habits, they become your character; watch your character, it becomes your destiny.”
You know this hits me somewhere I didn't expect. I was always the weaker of a duo of friends. Always looked so far up to this kid that I thought I couldn't even see how high he was. After highschool the best of friends that would spend months at each other's homes like brothers split up. I joined the Army, he went towards music. I survived multiple wars, in more theaters than I can count and now have a home and family that I love. All those years and still today I claim that success from the drive I found from looking up to this young man throughout my childhood. I ran into him last year. Hopping from house to house, struggling to stand but still holding his chin up high regardless with that same spirit if a bit darkened. I invited him to come stay at my home for a night, meet my children and my wife and we talk for hours over some of the nicer of my bottles of bourbon until I admit to him what I hadn't ever said. That he had been my only real hero, the only person I ever aspired to be. That I saw in him as a child a fearless leader that I aspired to and still aspire to be. Idk if it was the time, the drinks, or just all of it crashing but my friend let out a tear and and said to me that I was the one he has been looking up to for some time. Thanks to social media he could see my experiences and the places I've been to and my life. I've only ever had one friend my entire life. Only one. I haven't seen him now since then, but I hope he is doing well. This story helped me to realise the importance in that. And I think, after this, I'm going to reach out to him again. Thank you. Thank you so much.
I can tell whoever wrote this is a powerful storyteller. Phenomenal actors as well, I 100% believed they were childhood friends that grew apart. The atmosphere and filming style were excellent as well. I would love to see this as a full length movie.
This is so so so kind of you. Thank you so much, I appreciate you and your words and hope that my work continues to be received in such a way! The actors were so brilliant; the two young boys met for the first time 3 days before we shot. The two adults were friends who had worked together before at a bar but I had no idea when we casted them, and found out the day before whilst in rehearsals. As for a full length movie... Maybe one day! I have a pitch written and I’m not opposed, with the right production company.

@@adoublez7 It was an absolute pleasure. The accent/language took a bit of getting used to, (I'm from Glasgow, so it's certainly not a criticism) but I quickly tuned in. The location didn't really matter in some respects because it's a universally understood scenario, but you go with what you know, and you clearly know these characters and location. On that subject, two fantastic characters, (played by four engaging, charismatic actors) who were easy to become invested in. It was sad see that transaction going down - Rihanna is going to want her Dad around. He can maybe justify it to himself - he's got to earn, but there's no point if he's not around. Is that what's causing the friction with Bianca, or doesn't she know? Does his friend know? Did he see it? The text message - is he actually working a job, or was it his other 'business'? So, what's next Abraham? Could you develop the characters, or are you doing something completely different? (If you don't mind me asking). I am working on completely different things (2x original series, 1x feature film) which have nothing to do with No More Wings HOWEVER I have not written off doing more with NMW. There is obvious potential for a straight feature adaptation and a TV adaptation where I just expand the story further. There is also a third, off the kilter version for TV which I can’t really divulge much details on. It’s the most exciting version of it and No More Wings would be nothing but a single paintbrush stroke in a much bigger world. In coming months I’ll be pitching that version - alongside two collaborators - with bated excitement. So the short answer is being kept very busy and so excited to be able to share more stories with the world. Probably because they both had similar goals in life, unlike some friendships where one wants to dream big and explore while the other dreams of staying where they're at right now.
@@nick6ix829 In my case it's potential career opportunities. I've also grown apart from my friends. Hence why this video touched me a bit too. Kinda need a fresh start.
Man this hits home. Seen lots of people talking about how it's hard to be the one left behind, but it's equally as hard to be the one who has to let go. Your old friends demonize you for wanting more, and you have to step into the unknown just hoping that it's worth it. Great film.
Bro that's exactly how I felt I moved to a different country to follow my dreams and they all laughed at me including my family did it all to better myself
Thank you! When the DOP read the script (and one other person, a legal advisor) they both said that the power would really be felt in the silences. It's been magical seeing audiences pick up on and appreciate that.
He seemed hesitant to say he was going away. It's obvious how much they'll miss each other just based off of their reactions and facial expressions. Wonderful actors and script.
The best you can do for the people that‘s “left behind” is not to stay there with them, but to show them the possibilities of this world, show them their potential, and maybe give them a hand when you arrive at that better place.
@MR-FREEZE 98 Well, "staying behind" directly implies not moving forward regardless of whether it was your choice or not. Never grow accustom to mediocrity especially when you have the talent to make it far in life. The moral of the story is the difference between someone who chose to move forward and the other who seems "ok" with staying behind but obviously regrets his life decisions.
Define "better place". When your community is fractured, it becomes (more) vulnerable - weakened. Moving to white spaces and places does not equal acceptance. Nor achievement. Think BIGGER. Your money welcome, but your presence is tolerated. You will always be seen as 'other'. Clearer heads are needed. Purchasing their homes...their goods, benefits them. NOT you. Or your people. Think. Money is energy. Be careful WHO you give your energy to.

Something I noticed was in the end. When separating the man who stays in his homework travels down the road that is lit up and is aware of how it’s going to go. Showing his inability to put himself out there. While the other friend travels down a road, which is dark, showing his comfort in the unknown.
Yes! Yes yes yes. I always question why people are so sure Jude isn’t content with who he is/who he’s become. And equally why people are so sure that Isaac is content. There’s so much we don’t know about him which could flip that perception... thank you for watching!

I loved this story. Some people need to strive for a different path, others need the security of what’s familiar. Neither path is necessarily wrong, but you must be willing to accept the consequences and pay the price for the life you choose.
Thanks for watching Lady G, glad to hear you loved it. Appreciate you taking the time to comment and agree with you - it's too simplistic to perceive their paths in a totally binary way of "right and wrong"
Robert Frost was a great poet, but I think in this case, might have to go for this one "keep spending most our lives, living in the gangsta's paradise." Coolio
Read the whole poem guys. It says over and over both the roads are the same. The idea of "road less travelled," is that the narrator is trying to justify to himself that the road he took was better some how. Please please read the entire poem. It had actually caused one of frosts friends to choose to go to war because he didnt see the humor and irony in it. Please read the whole thing
It's a bit of a self perpetuating cycle is it not? You will always feel further by virtue of having lived further, but remember that you have a say in it too. Think of seeing people (again, even) not as final farewells, but the same as the first time you saw them - a chance to build something again. We've all lived through losing friends by the attrition of time, but if this clip proves anything, it's that paths don't always diverge permanently, no matter how far you've travelled.
To be honest… it’s seems like they were pretty different even when they were younger. Their friendship was pretty much held together by youth and proximity. This is less about them growing apart and more about them growing up. They had different interests, cares, and were on different paths even when they were younger. It just is what it is… All that being said, it’s wild he is from the area but still thought it was a good idea to come through in a nice suit to see his boy at the chicken spot lol

Yeh if you’re a jealous beta maybe. Stop thinking with ego as your guiding light and maybe you’d value more significant things in life than outperforming your friends.
Just graduated high school in the terrible year we all know as 2020. Didn't get a chance to say goodbye to a lot of people. Although I'm still young, freshman in uni, I find it scary that my childhood is basically over. I'm afraid, but hoping this doesn't happen to me. This film is amazing, thank you.
Adulthood is a strange transition. Alot will happen. Stay focused and make goods decisions even if many of your peers don't. Life goes on and doesn't wait aroumd.
2020 grad here too fam. Still to this day wish I had the chance to say goodbye to lots of ppl. But there’s always the chance you’ll see them again down while you go your own path. All it takes is patience.
Life moves on, you'll meet new friends in highschool, college and at work. You'll reach to that point where friends just come and go and you're just greatful you met them. Atleast that's what i feel rn, adulthood sucks
You aint wrong, and then they turn against people who leave their 'ends' as if they are traitors etc when they are pursuing their career for the better.
My translation of it is that the chicken shop and where they grew up in, is "the ends". Because Isaac is famous and has a new house in a seemingly rich area, he doesn't fit in the ends anymore because of high social status. Jude still believes he himself belongs in the ends and tells Isaac not to be a stranger to where they grew up.
I just had this conversation with a friend of mine about how I felt I was falling behind in life. I noticed his focus on his career and how he started making big moves and im sitting back waiting to hang out and have fun with him without realizing im just wasting time. Im 26 and barely realizing whats happening around me.
Totally feel you. People around me started to make big money while I'm out here surfing on the internet. I won't be in a shock if we lose touch after a while
If you’ve grown up in the ends this is normal. You will have the guys who choose the street life and the ones who decide to take the positive path. Once you get older you have nothing in common which disintegrates the friendship. All you can do is reminisce about the old times.
Even though don't have common grounds anymore, u gotta admit that when you meet with your childhood homies after a longtime just by seeing their faces you feel like " I'm home". You get back the energy to continue in life.
this is one of the hardest parts of growing up. sometimes there really isn’t even any bad reason or ill intent in the end of a friendship. sometimes you just grow apart. i’ve had to be the friend that leaves, and i’ve had to be the friend to get left behind. it’s a part of life. a sad part, but necessary for growth. edit: it dawned on me that i’m seeing my old high school friend for the first time in about 3/4 years soon. i suppose a friendship can’t truly end until the both of you call it quits. i have faith that those in similar situations to the one presented above may find strength to either continue the friendship or find solace in leaving it behind. godspeed.
i think it’s possible to find your own lane and still see your friends from time to time. My dad who’s in his 50s will still see his friends from high school or college from time to time.
Good video, it illustrates the reality of living in a depressed part of town. To leave the hood, one must get an academic education, learn a trade or start a successful business. Hustling makes quick money but also corrupts ones life.
they both had different attitudes. one wanted to stay where he was in life and the other friend wanted to see a different world. makes you wonder how things can be different just through the choices you make

I love how his older self passes his younger self the package and how it ties in with the end song’s lyrics. It’s all a circle-someone passed him a package when he was younger and now he’s passing it on to another. You can get your P’s up quick in the game or work slow and get out. He gives himself the package because it starts the cycle over-there’s no getting out for him or anyone else following that path. This is really great man. Thank you Abraham Adeyemi.

This is how it feels going off to university and some of your friends stay home. Even though I come back home often, it's not the same as when we were back in school together in the old days. Everything is always changing, but you have to remember your roots and stay grounded no matter where you go. This is one of the keys to success.
It's not like that. There is a strain in the friendship when your friend has his life made and yours is not. Being in his presence is a constant reminder of the fact, and it never quite goes away.

Reminds me of Plato's allegory about a people who grew up chained in a cave and seeing only black and white (shadows) until they break free and see the world in true color for the first time. The other stays back in the cave for fear of change and wishes to live with what they were familiar with.
No culture is inherently macabre ....Remember that. If you observe something alarming about your traditions , roots or culture , you shouldn't accept because that is not how it was intended to be. That is simply its beauty being tarnished by people . If your roots exploit or hurt you , they are not your roots. Your roots are supposed so strengthen you and stay with you as you grow. The man didn't do anything wrong leaving , from what I believe is , an unsafe neighbourhood . Instead , we should work on making these neighbourhoods safer for everyone while preserving their true tradition.
He should be leaving the city for a better life rather than stay in a place that's gonna get worst. Why should he suffer for it where it can't be saved.

Getting left behind sucks. I have a friend who’s an Olympian, another who owns a business overseas, and another who’s a squad lead in Afghanistan. When you are surrounded by greatness and left like that, it leaves you bitter, jealous, but still proud. Not a good feeling.
Lol it could have been other way round. One injury to your friend. A wrong decision or pandemic can down any business. And leading in afganistan he is too lucky. And so you are.
Find something that you enjoy and good at! You say your jealous of the friend who joined the army and the friend who runs a business - are these anything you ever wanted to do? Also, if you don’t want to get ‘left behind’ you have to be prepared to take risks. I was the friend who was ‘left behind’. I changed careers and stated over - it was huge risk as I didn’t have anything to fall back on if it failed. All worked out, much happier now - good luck to you.
What people don’t realize about adult friendships are that they’re a lot like relationships. Yea, some people can maintain that “effortless” chemistry but for many, as you grow into adults and step more into your own responsibilities your priorities largely shift. You have to make a conscious effort to maintain the friendship or else it can easily slip away. Do not let anyone convince you that just because you two no longer have the time to sit around and banter as much that you’re automatically “going separate ways”. The same goes for relationships. Sometimes it just takes effort. But ofc in some situations you may want to leave a certain person behind if you feel as if they have no desire to change and their lifestyle can make a negative impact on you, like in this video.
Shorts like this make me marvel over the art form of short storytelling. These guys literally didn't have to move from their spot to evoke so much emotion from us viewers.
This makes me grateful I'm still cool with my homeboys to this day. We grew up in church together and also encouraged greatness. We all got the chance to chill together a few months ago. And we were laughing like everything happened yesterday. We each are seeing success our own way and we don't look down on each other we just encourage one another to seek better
The broken speech between the two men conveys a distance between them. This is empahsised as we can see younger forms of them in the scene which shows how they have not met for a long-time, thus presenting a significant distance in their relationship.
Abraham thank you for this short film. Hits home as a man who grew up in a rough area of London who made a better life for himself but sadly former friends never left that life. Funnily enough we also arranged a catch up after 10 years at a Morley’s we grew up in and it’s sad the only things we could talk about was the past and not the future amongst ourselves, we had both grown apart. Thought provoking film!
School or not life may take you to different places but don't forget your roots keep pushing..u gonna get there, don't live to h rich ..live to b happy fam.
Think about that last time you all hangout together as kids, shits crazy man. Still got many childhood friends but some close ones I'll never see again, enjoy the moments.
I left them at first, but I realized those were my brothers. I came up with a crazy idea, why not bring them with me in my journey? To my surprise, they went along! Now all of us are traveling together!

It’s home for him
You know this hits me somewhere I didn't expect.

I am working on completely different things (2x original series, 1x feature film) which have nothing to do with No More Wings HOWEVER I have not written off doing more with NMW. There is obvious potential for a straight feature adaptation and a TV adaptation where I just expand the story further.

Im 26 and barely realizing whats happening around me.

ian b - Well, at 26 you're still young and you still have the opportunity to do something with your life. Best get cracking then!
Leaving a place to seek betterment is not leaving the family. Its something else.
If you’ve grown up in the ends this is normal. You will have the guys who choose the street life and the ones who decide to take the positive path. Once you get older you have nothing in common which disintegrates the friendship. All you can do is reminisce about the old times.
For the legend who wrote this whole thing...we need a full length movie brother, this stuff is beyond phenomenal.

Even though don't have common grounds anymore, u gotta admit that when you meet with your childhood homies after a longtime just by seeing their faces you feel like " I'm home". You get back the energy to continue in life.
The story is still being written, this doesn't define both of them.
Absolutely true! Book doesn’t close until the pen runs out of ink and we take our last breath...
this is one of the hardest parts of growing up. sometimes there really isn’t even any bad reason or ill intent in the end of a friendship. sometimes you just grow apart. i’ve had to be the friend that leaves, and i’ve had to be the friend to get left behind. it’s a part of life. a sad part, but necessary for growth.
edit: it dawned on me that i’m seeing my old high school friend for the first time in about 3/4 years soon. i suppose a friendship can’t truly end until the both of you call it quits. i have faith that those in similar situations to the one presented above may find strength to either continue the friendship or find solace in leaving it behind. godspeed.
i think it’s possible to find your own lane and still see your friends from time to time. My dad who’s in his 50s will still see his friends from high school or college from time to time.
how did it go with your friend/ ex friend?

Good video, it illustrates the reality of living in a depressed part of town. To leave the hood, one must get an academic education, learn a trade or start a successful business. Hustling makes quick money but also corrupts ones life.

He gives himself the package because it starts the cycle over-there’s no getting out for him or anyone else following that path.

Beautiful piece. It really goes to show how different friendships can feel when you're young and when you're older. The best bonds are ones that can stand the test of time. Not a lot of people can claim they had friends like this and even less when the going gets tough. Cherish your friends, people. Yep, so so true!

I loved young Jude. He was such a lover of life-expressive and happy. Wish he could have stuck to football and perhaps succeded? Growing up I was a (female) version of Isaac. Wish I could have been more free though or rebellious. Lol. Life is too short. The degree and white collar job doesn't always translate into happiness.
This reminds me of how some of my friends and I use to be
What people don’t realize about adult friendships are that they’re a lot like relationships.
Love that for you guys. Thank you for watching, and sharing!

That’s that sad part for me, once you laugh about yesterday the future seems to be only that past with that person/ people
The broken speech between the two men conveys a distance between them.
