How on earth has adobe not simply created the ability to crop with shapes and add borders in two clicks instead of a nine minute video tutorial? It’s absolutely maddening that they haven’t done something so useful and simple.
Master, I'm a 61 years old man from Brazil. Very recently I decided to leave Camtasia and learn premiere as I have a paid subscription to the creative cloud. I searched youtube for premiere pro teaching channels and I was lucky enough to find yours. Man, I've got to tell you, it was the finding of my life. Thank you very much for everything you taught me. May God bless you with health, wealth and success. Quoting Spock: Live Long and Proster. Thank you. 😀
@adisonandrade Before Premiere Pro, I also have used Camtasia (and BandiCam.) Both were very limited and very ‘amateur hour’ in their UI, polish, and feature set. You made the right choice switching to a professional-quality tool. Plus, Premiere works GREAT with native Photoshop, Illustrator and AfterEffects files.
On my current project, there's a somewhat complicated cropping effect I am going for which I've been dreading having to deal with, but I just reached the point where I HAVE to figure it out today in order to proceed. This video popped up just I was sitting down at my workstation. Absolutely uncanny timing! You've really saved me a lot of trouble with the offset and mask tips. Thank you Javier!
Good day, @JavierMercedes You taught me the Circle Crop Video trick last year. Since then, I've used the identical masking techniques you demonstrated in this video, but now I came across another method for making rounded corners that is incredibly simple compared to what I'm currently doing. , many thanks for your content
You're a genius! I'm a newer editor and was following a few other instructions that included obsolete effects (circle). With my limited understanding that created a tremendous amount of confusion and frustrations. You are the main guy I go to at this point! You always lay it out super clear and not too fast... you're brilliant!👍🏻
You are a life saver, man. I have many projects in which I will need this effect a lot. I did my first in after effects. I had to create a shape layer then mask the footage as an inverted alpha matte then precompose all of them and add a drop shadow. After watching your video now I can do it all in a few minutes. Thanks a lot.
I needed something as a quick reference that was addressed in literally the first 30 sec of this video AND it contained the other thing I was going to search afterward! Thank you!
Thanks for that. I'd love to see a video on sound FX -which ones are the most popular, where to find them, how to automatize them depending on which transition you use, etc.
Thank you for this very helpful video! I’ve watched so many of your videos as I try to learn Premier better!! Very much appreciate what you do and how you demonstrate everything!😊🌺🌷
I absolutely love your tutorials. This one is another "damn that was easy" tutorial. You're helping make my meh videos just a tiny bit better. Thank you!
Great tutorial! Now that they've removed paint bucket, this is the easiest way to do this. Adobe needs to add the basic functionality of adding a stroke to a mask.
2:50 I tried this method but it placed the matte in the bottom right corner for some reason. I am making a square video does that mess this up some how?
Does anyone have any advice if when you apply the track matte, it automatically shrinks everything and you cannot scale it up properly? I think its a pixel size issue but I do not know how to fix
Same! I can see the original border of the matte when I highlight that shape layer in the EG panel, but it's only revealing a fraction of the image with the track matte enabled on the fill layer. I can scale the shape layer to where it should be, but then the stroke layer doesn't work. Premiere v 23.2
I was hoping you'd mention the 'Snap in Program Monitor' button for putting videos on the edges (it helps ALOT) But thanks for explaining that. I was just using Crop + Alpha Glow for a quick fix or creating my own PNG borders and slapping it over the PiP. 300+ Video's later, i can do it the correct way LOL thanks!
Thanks for sharing your techniques. Please I have a question and I didn't find the answer on YT : How do you animate all this in order to start from full screen to your pip... Crop and resize should be sync... I tried but it's not perfect... Any idea? pliiiiz Javier, answer meeee😊
Hi Javier I have a question please, I added a crop effect to my unedited clip and the crop effect does not crop the original video file. How do I fix this please thank you
I use the Routgh Edge effect to create the rounded corners, keeps the timeline more organized. But do you think what you showed in the video is better? Does it perform better?
I will say the computer processing power with the method I showed in this video was very minimal compared to other methods even though it does create more on the timeline. I do agree though that it does add to the tracks, hopefully they add a stroke effect in the effects panel so you don’t have to do this in the future.
If need to add the same crop on same clip on another time , we have to do the same thing again? can we save this use it for the same clip? like when you making a reaction video, sometimes we need to show our self in full clip and cropped clip , if we can save this for later use on the same clip, will be easy to edit and will be faster
As an add-on to this video, I'd love to know how to transition between clips when I want the talking head footage to go back to full screen to make a point, then go back to the screen share underneath.
Awesome tutorial! Thank you so much! Loving the step by step process. Strange how it takes so mange steps just to get stroke going in premiere vs PS. Anyways: Loved it and subscribed :)
Original shape is being used as a matte so it would just add to the transparency instead of creating a stroke. I wish there was a stroke effect you could just drop on footage in Premiere
@@JavierMercedes I see. It worked. But, just wanted to confirm with you if I really did it right. I nested the video, then added track matte key effect to the nested sequence. That's when it worked. Does this mean that in a nested sequence, I'll have another nested sequence inside of it if I decide to nest the matte/shape and the stroke together with it? i.e. inside the nested sequence: matte, stroke, and the nested video sequence.
Hey man! There's a new tendency for clients looking to pay video editors based on TH-cam monetization results instead of a per video o per hour rate. I've never worked on these yet, but it has caught my attention because if you are given a subject, it doesn't matter how well you've edited a video, it goes down to the tagging and the subject, as well. Thanks!
If you are also looking to do split screen effect I have a preset pack that has over 350 PNG asset overlays: bit.ly/JMBundle01

Straight to the point, no waste of time or stretching the video length out, couldn't ask for a better tutorial. Big compliment!

I usually do this in my channel with expansion mask's but in this video I've learn an alternative way. Thanks!
you have no idea how on-point, simple, and effective this tutorial is, especially compared to the other ones out there. thank you!
Thanks Green Gloves! 🧤

Lifesaver with the offset effect; I used to spend so much time adjusting and playing with the positioning of the crop! thank you soooo much! T_T
So concise, yet so precise. 👍🏼10/10
Really. I could easily see other people making a 17 minutes video explaining the exact same things!

This came in at the perfect time
The amount of thing I just learned from this video is insane. Awesome job!!!
Excellent video! Thank you for including both concepts in ONE video
I needed something as a quick reference that was addressed in literally the first 30 sec of this video AND it contained the other thing I was going to search afterward! Thank you!
That offset over crop is an effing game changer!!!
Thanks for that. I'd love to see a video on sound FX -which ones are the most popular, where to find them, how to automatize them depending on which transition you use, etc.
This is a marvellous video. Eliquente and straight to the point. Keep doing your thing 👍🏻
Wachted a lot of videos... this is when I decided to subscribe. Thanks.
Thank you for this simple and straightforward video! You deserve a million subs
Cannot thank you enough for your content (and templates for sale.) The most used tools in my Premiere arsenal. Cheers.
The first 10 seconds of the video solved my problem, thank you so much for the help! Effective work
That offset above the crop is 🔥 Thanks Professor Javier

Holy cow. Where was this yesterday when I was dealing with opacity and masks - great tips
Thanks so much for this tuto I've been looking for for a while 🤩
holy heck, I say this sparingly but I love you hahaha I was losing my mind trying to stumble upon it in settings. Thanks for sharing, man. 🙏
The best tutorial i have seen on this topic! tks!! Bravo!
Thanks Mate I have been thinking about this crop effect since last week and today this video popped up on my feed 😮
Can we save the end result, the rounded rectangle, to use in other projects or do we have to create this every time? Thank for the helpful content.

Just what needed today! As always you came to help! Thanks Javier!

Is there a way to zoom in and out once I have my footage framed with the offset tool rather than just left and right?
I didn’t know about the offset. I’ve done the mask, the key, and the crop. All of them super frustrating at times. This Offset effect: 👌
Thanks greatly, boss. This is timely and it is timeless.
Exactly what I was looking for... liked and suscribed! Thnx
This was really helpful, thank you!
Thanks! I knew there must be a way to donthis in Premiere without having to use a cut-out frame from Photoshop.
You are the best brother!
I love the informative and quick tutorials. Great job with this one
Do you teach or know of any thorough courses in premier pro?
Very cool trick, thanks Javier.
Wow...gonna save me so much time! Thank you!

Straight in - no bullshit. Love it
Awesome tips Javier, thank you
Thank you, great video.....very clear and concise
Thank you so much ❤️
I learn many think from your video.
keep them comming 😜❤
You saved me like a gazillion hours if I would go and figure this out on my own, thanks a lot!
Glad I could help Erik!

Awesome.. I don't have that stroke tool in my essential graphics. What can I do?
Create the shape and make sure the shape clip is highlighted in the timeline and then that stroke should come up.
you visited my school I rember i told you I would sub so I did you inspired me ill never forget you
Thanks man!!

I would implement the multi-cam trick I use at 4 : 42 in this video: th-cam.com/video/dFqWQ2_WRKM/w-d-xo.html
Can I turn this into a preset?
you are a life saver
Thank you!

thank for your vidéo
Excellent tutorial. By why not enable the stroke on the original clip instead of duplicating it? That would work too, right?
Original shape is being used as a matte so it would just add to the transparency instead of creating a stroke. I wish there was a stroke effect you could just drop on footage in Premiere
@@JavierMercedes ah yes.. makes sense
is it possible to crop a hole in the middle of the video?
tnq brother
For the stroke you could just add it from the Essential Graphics - Appearance. Without duplicating and headaches
Wish I could give you two thumbs up
thanks a lot for the video
Thank Youuuu!!!
nice video sir, thanks....
I follow the tutorial but when I select Matte : Video 4. Both the shame I made and the footage I try to crop disappear. Please help me
This doesn't work anymore with the latest version sadly :(
Cropping in Premiere is unbelievably complicated. I can't believe how complicated it is compared to programs like Format Factory.
Great & thanks
Thank you
the video behind is shrinking when i use the track matte with a rectangle shape. any solution?
Nest the track matte first. It may be because your matte is smaller than the sequence settings
@@JavierMercedes I see. It worked. But, just wanted to confirm with you if I really did it right. I nested the video, then added track matte key effect to the nested sequence. That's when it worked.
