This actually came in handy with the new "removal of 60 something effects" that Adobe just did. Thank you! Used to use the circle effect but it's not there anymore.
I was just redoing my talking head graphic, and you posted this today. I still think Adobe should make it easier to position masks with more precision, but this is the cleanest version that I've seen so far. Thanks for the timely post.
I love your videos Kelsey - your explanations are super clear and you have a great voice :) Thank you so much for putting so much effort into your tutorials! Bec
In reference to 3:05 at the video, could you just draw the shape, add a stroke of the color you want for your outline, drop shadow, and make a mask all within the shape tools listed on the screen there?
Hi kelsey! Love your videos. How can we change these circles along with time? Like I want to see 2minutes of full camera roll then want to split it into circle on a corner. Should I divide it into videos or there is any other way?
Great tutorial, thank you so much! :) I wanted to be able to save the circle PiP mask as a preset, so I came up with a different solution: I made the mask with the "Alpha Adjust" FX and then added the "Paint Bucket" FX to create a stroke around it. Then I added the "Drop Shadow" FX and a "Transform" FX to scale it down and move it. By using FX only I'm able to save them all as one preset. Now I can just drop my PiP Circle FX Preset on any clip and instantly have a circle mask with a border, drop shadow, scaled down and moved to the side. :)
I believe you just need to change the angle, I'm not sure if you can change the default, but you can try saving it as a Preset, right click on the effect after you adjust the angle and save as preset. Save it as "Drop Shadow 90 degrees"
Nice tutorial. I'm so desperate for Adobe to add the ability to apply a stroke directly to an asset. Whether it's masked, or cropped or whatever, it'd be so convenient if they added a stroke effect so you don't have to create a circle, eyeball it's location, and hope it lines up. It's in Photoshop and AE, why not here?!?!
Yes, me too! There is a Paint effect you can try, but it’s too complex, a Stroke effect should be basic. You can also play around with Dropshadow to make it a yellow color and play around with the distance to make a stroke. But I agree, it should be added. You can add strokes to shapes and text from Essential graphics, not to video clips in the timeline.
Well I agree with you and this is sick and too lengthy process for adding a stroke or border on any clip/ images. Really missing the Final Cut Pro days where every thing was drag drop with plugins. Even for crop we have to put up a filter... Common it should be a simple tool to chose like in FCP 😢😢😢
Great video. Thanks. I was wondering if its possible to do this with a multi-camera source sequence? I have two cameras and a audio layer and sometimes switch between cameras. Is there a way to do this without seperating the camera layers out of the sequence?
Yes, you’d need to copy and paste mask effect on the source clip. And I’d recommend applying a transform effect to the source clip so you can reposition it at the source, so that way in multicam the clip will be positioned and masked already. I’m not sure if the stroke circle graphic will work, but I recommend trying a drop shadow at the source clip also
easy way for yellow circle: 1. make copy of masked clip 2. put it above 3. drop shadow on a bottom clip 4. shadow only 5. scale to fit 6. color 7. done🤩
Thx!!! How about making a vertical rectangular mask with ROUND corners? (because thats not standard in Premiere; only circles, squares and straight rectangulars there)
You can draw it with the pen tool, or you can lasso the sides of the horizontal rectangle and move them up to make it a vertical rectangle....I agree not ideal way of working... Masking in Ae and Ps is just easier in general. But hey, we're in it together! haha
Masking makes sense, but is there a good way to make that new mask the new “bounds” of the video layer? Like in photoshop I could crop or mask then take that selection and paste to a new layer. Just thinking to make it easier to line up a shape and ensure it’s perfectly center, I’d want the center of my masked video to be the anchor point
Did you know, you're the only person on the internet that knows to click+shift the ellipse mask to make it snap into a perfect circle? I have no idea why Adobe doesnt make that more clear, or have it just spawn in as a perfect circle. But as always, thanks for the helpful tip! I wont be forgetting this one.
Is Premiere Pro limited to one single inverted mask per video clip or is there a workaround for multiple masks in one video background to insert still photos that can be scaled and repositioned within the mask? I'm new at this thinking of doing a reusable template for my grandchildren slideshows.
Hi Kelsey, I have a situation here. I need to put a guy who is speaking in a conference but he's moving out the circle while he's speaking. I tried to track him on the clip but I don't get the effect that I'm looking... Do you know how can I fix it?

Just duplicate the main video, and on the duplicate make a mask with the circle, then you can enable and reenable each layer as you cut as needed.
@@PremiereGalThank you so much. But will not this method increase the size of project and render time?

Another way to do it is the Track Matte effect. Gets a little tricky with layers but another option!
