Well done sir. You should have done the BD but asked them not to charge you for the actuator. I highly recommend the City Diesel billet actuator. how did you know your actuator was failing? im new to owning a diesel, i got a 2013 as well. have had it for just over a year now. but i have a speculation that turbo and/or actuator is going bad because my exhaust brake isnt working anymore. it also doesnt spool as hard. so ive been looking at new turbos to replace the stock one. do you like this turbo so far? is it any louder than the stock? does it spool better than stock? would just like to know before i pull the trigger on one of these turbos.
Yes, your turbo is bad. No exhaust brake and spool lag is a sign your actuator has failed and is stuck. Either replace your actuator or replace the whole turbo. If you just replace he actuator, you will need to have it recalibrated by a shop. If you replace the whole turbo, it will come precalibrated. I like the BD Diesel Screamer. It’s a remanded and improved factory turbo with a bigger compressor and turbine. Spools nicely. It’s a little louder but not much. Good unit for a good price. Quality too! Remember it’s a factory turbo just slightly modified.
More than likely the vanes have carbon buildup causing them to stick. You can get a rebuilt kit from turbo lab america and either clean or replace the vane.
