  • Explore how the visual effects in the 'Unreal for All Creators' brand film were achieved. You’ll learn the secret behind many of the effects, including how to prepare and export meshes for rigid body animation and how to build a vertex shader using submesh pivots.
    If you’d like to explore the digital world of 'Unreal for All Creators' for yourself, you'll soon be able to download some of the assets for free from the Marketplace. In the meantime, you can experiment with this simpler sample project file. bit.ly/3hXxhYz.

      There is an addon for Blender called Pivot-Painter-For-Blender. It is derrived from the 3dsmax code, but doesn't have all the features. Though it's enough for this effect.

    Is there a shader language to program this type of stuff in Unreal ? rather than use a node graph.... node graphs are great but you could probably collapse that entire spaghetti node blocks into about 10 lines of code. Is there GLSL inside Unreal or do you have to write a C++ plug in to do it?

    • @Goodvideos93
      @Goodvideos93 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The "custom" node. You can write HLSL straight into the node graph. However you will not benefit from most of the background optimisations that happen in the shader compiler so you will have to profile your shader in a external software to know its cost. Ryan brucks did a live stream on it a few years ago.

      You do not need school, unless you really want to. TH-cam has a ton of video tutorials. Epic does as well. There are a lot out there. World of level design is a good one. Download the engine, and make a small level. It is free for personal use

      What you're seeing here is pure Tech Art, one of the harder branches withing game development.

      I've done a bachelor in Game Design (Not the Game Designer job but the game designing in general; so 3D, code, level design, concept art, etc) and unless you find a very good school then don't bother studying that. I lost 3 years and 20k+€ cause my school was a mess and I wish I just spent 3 years working on projects and watching tutorials. I'm only moderately good in everything about creating a game. That's what most of these schools will do, make fake promises and then you end up not being specialised with a loan to pay back. Also, there is something interesting called Masterclasses that doesn't cost too much (Some are even free) and can teach you lots more things in less time than what a school would do

      You can learn all this stuff on youtube/artstation/gumroad these days. It's probably a lot cheaper than a uni course. You just need to structure your time and make a plan of what you want to learn. First of all decide whether you want to go into code or art.

      This is the 'how to' part of a previous video that went into discussions about the project.
      Even then, at the start he explains they were asked to do deforming buildings, the 'why' is because thats what the director wanted, which in most cases is the only why that matters in a project.
