Iranian VP for Strategic Affairs Weighs in on Israel, Gaza, and Lebanon | Amanpour and Company

- A key power player in the Middle East conflict is Iran -- a major backer of both Hezbollah and Hamas, and the country that Israel considers to be its arch foe in the region. This week in New York, Iran's president seemed to present a more moderate face to the world, suggesting a resumption of nuclear talks in an effort to get relief from sanctions. Iran's new Vice President for Strategic Affairs, Javad Zarif, is familiar to many from his time negotiating the 2015 nuclear deal as Foreign Minister. Zarif sat down with Christiane in New York for a wide-ranging interview on Lebanon, Gaza, a new nuclear deal with the United States and women's rights at home.

Those who say he is lying, I'd like to know what part of what he said is a lie. We cannot simply call people liars without doing any fact check. He may be lying about many things, but he is right about this one for the most part! I am very critical of the Iranian regime when it comes to how they treat the people of Iran. However, it is essential to examine each situation individually. In this particular case, I agree with him. Israel benefits from the continuation of this war and has not shown any willingness to end it. Regardless of our feelings towards Iran, Hamas, or Hezbollah, the fact remains that Israel is an occupying force, which is the primary cause of this conflict.

@@ayaz1110 yes, that is the whole point of what i am trying to say. It is easy to put a label on a group of people and judge everything they say or do based on that label. However the reality is that there is good and bad(which is very subjective) in everyone! Of course they have said many things that are true. Whether this one is true or not, we can talk about that. But simply assuming that they are wrong about everything they say is a vey naive way of looking at things. Same thing applies to Israel, USA, Russia, Hamas or any other group or government. There is no pure black and white as you might think.

Iran does hate Jews, but their hate for Israel primarily stems from their hate for the US. If Israel allied with the Soviets in the 60s instead of the US then the Palestinian lie would never have been created but there would still be Jew hate.

Gazans before Oct 7 were living in peace and better than so many in the Arab countries. They were getting free electricity, free water, free fuel, people working in Israel, people going to Israel for medical care. As a Lebanese I will tell you they have more hospitals than Beirut and some of them are better equipped! So what were they missing??? So stop telling lies about them being besieged!!
