Walid Jumblatt on Lebanon, Gaza, Israel and West’s Role: ‘They Don’t Care About Us’

- As global powers propose a 21-day ceasefire to curb the escalating conflict between Israel and Lebanon, Lebanese political leader Walid Jumblatt voiced support for revisiting the 1949 Armistice Agreement in an interview with Hadley Gamble on Al Arabiya News, but insisted normalization despite Israeli bombardments is not the answer. The discussion follows two days of intense Israeli bombings which have claimed over 600 Lebanese lives.
The interview, set against the backdrop of the new ceasefire initiative led by the US and France, highlighted Jumblatt’s critical view of US diplomatic efforts to quell Israel’s military operations on its neighbors, so far, reserving special criticism for US Representative Amos Hochstein.
“Netanyahu doesn’t care about him. He dismisses any effort, although minimal, of the US administration, to try to appease a little bit, to try to cool it down,” Jumblatt commented, while also expressing skepticism about the effectiveness of the UN in moderating Israeli actions.

Walid Jumballat is responsible in many respects to the tragic state of Lebanon. If was open to peace with Israel, extreme Islamist would not role Lebanon and she could be in an extraordinary wellness.

Look , the only problem is he is unfitted for politic . He could even think raping and killing civilian is justified because of the occupation Israel is conducting for years but reality is doing that never helped winning a war in world's history . Attacking an enemy only to lose more isn't a defense tactic but an immoral act against Palestine's interests . Another symptom of his stupidity is believing Putin isn't helping them because of the war in Ukraine . Putin isn't helping because 1/5 of Israeli population is of Russian origin .
He didn't answer the most important question: Is Lebanon a failed political experiment?
The answer is yes. The idea of a multinational state seems to have been a mistake. A smaller state with a clear Christian majority would have probably been better.
We are not politicians in Lebanon. We love life and clean hearted people. But the world you like is the opposite

It just seems that a state needs to have a monopoly on the use of force, and then actually protect their own people.
I am genuinely sad for the people of Lebanon (and Gaza also by the way). It seems many really believe Hezbollah is protecting them but I don't see how this is true. It's very tragic and heart breaking.

Just so you know, I am from Israel. I was born here, and so were my parents and both grandmothers.
Maybe if Israel hadn't existed some things would be better for many people. For better or worse, it's here now.
It seems the Lebanese army should be the one defending Lebanon, including the south. I realize I know very little about Lebanon but it seems very dangerous to count on a militia for a state's protection.
Standard western perspective:
We believe in a safe, secure Middle East, free of radical jihadist terrorism. The centerpiece of our vision is a strong, safe, secure Israel. Everything else should be built around that.

Jumblatt after all these years disappoints again. He failed to back president bashir jemeyal of lebanon on verge of a peace treaty with iarael but foiled by vice president poppy bush that put marines in beirut, not invited by lebanon nor israel on a mission to prevent lebanon israel peace. Israel forces pulled back in beirut as to not do so would be war between israel and america as american forces moved forward so israel pulled back qnd in midst of this lebanons president got assinated.
