    I love Detroit. I don't care what people say. The architecture is amazing. I love the industrial legacy. The residential homes are built with better quality materials than Florida houses. But winters are rough.

    • @trulivingtampa

      I totally agree about the architecture. Having sold in both areas, the quality of the homes are better in FL. But it's only because of hurricane codes.

    Glad we are living in a community with a minimal HOA fee -$180, that covers the water, garbage, security personnel, pool maintenance, and others. House has 3bedroom and 2.5 bathrooms, and our median electricity bill is only $100. Not in Tampa, though close enough, like 16 minutes drive.

    2023 new house cost in Tampa suburbs are even higher than 2016 new home cost in central New Jersey; I earned more money in central New Jersey in 2016 than in 2023 Tampa.
    example 4 bedroom, 2 story home, double garage and basement at 2,350 sqf in Somerset NJ in 2016 was $360k and property taxes about $7,200; now I Plant City, FL (30 min from Tampa) you can get 2,350 2 story home by DR HORTON for $375k and property taxes about $7,000 because of community pool ect. Besides, the live is now more expensive in 2023 Florida than 2016 New Jersey.

    • @ImLaurenStephens

      DR Horton homes are complete garbage, at least here in Texas!

    • @gs9771
      @gs9771 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ImLaurenStephens I can comment that in Florida the express series are build with lot of cheap materials; for example window frames are so thin that when you tough the glass the who window with frames moves slightly, there is the most basic paint and finish on the drywall, the cheapest paint (know that there are 6 level of finish of drywall) so forget about latex paint or texture finish, DR Horton uses 3-tab shingles (I had shingles like that and to replace the roof after 15 years) - those are the things I noticed during new home tour - Dr Horton has to improve

    Came to the Tampa area 10 years ago. The value of my house doubled in that time. I've seen a very significant jump in expenses in general in that decade also. I don't think it's a Tampa thing. Pretty sure it's everywhere but the idea that florida is cheap is out the window. Only cheap places are areas where you probably wouldn't want to live.

    Pittsburgh PA. You are always heating or cooling. $400 a month gas to heat in the winter. $400 a month electric to cool in the summer. It’s just a battle of the extremes. It’s a pretty nice city to live in the suburbs of. But I’ve ALWAYS wanted to go south.

    I can tell you have not lived here that long. I watched your vid...and when it comes to insurance , $2500.00 a year for a 4 bedroom 2 bath home? I’d LOVE to know the the deductible, and I’d REALLY like to talk to your agent....and if you’re even close to the water, good luck trying to find an insurance company that will even take you on or they will charge you thru the nose if you have a mortgage and more than likely, they’ll drop you after the first year or so and God forbid you ever do a claim. PLUS, if your home was built back in the 70’s or 80’s, the insurance company will go over your house with a fine tooth comb...wind mitigation...new roofs within the past 5 years and so on.... I’ve lived on the east coast for 40 + years, just north WPB, been thru 8 hurricanes with 3 direct hits and a couple that brushed by where I live (about a mile from the beach as the crow flies) Insurance rates in this state are OUT OF CONTROL! It is one of the MOST important details of moving to this state so please emphasize that when doing your vids

    • @trulivingtampa
      @trulivingtampa  ปีที่แล้ว

      You are right, rates are all over the board.
      Our home was built in 77 and less than 2 miles to the road and we’re paying those rates. We are in a non-flood, non-evacuation zone and have a new roof.

    I used to live in Tampa for ten years but left the state 19 years ago. I was very happy to leave due to the humidity and heat. Plus you either need to live with the cockroach or chemical in your house. We got geckos instead to deal with it. They take care of the spiders too. Tampa had the highest car stolen in USA. I don't know if that is true now or not. But car insurance was expensive. So was homeowner and wind storm insurance as well. If you are in the flood zone or if you want protection from flood damage. You need flood insurance too. Liability insurance is expensive as well. Utility was not cheap for you had water and sewer charges. If you only had one water meter for the entire lot, then you are paying extra for sewer fee watering your landscaping and pool. You can pay extra to plumb and get second meter just for outdoor only. That was so back then. I don't know about now.. Florida is flatter than a pancake and has the lowest elevation of all 50 states. I missed the mountains. Then we got climate problems of water rising every year on the coastlines. I have seen projections that half of the state will be underwater. It's either that or go the Netherlands diking route. Who is going to pay for the dikes? Hopefully we'll be able to reduce the CO2 in time to be reversible. In the meantime the weather is very extreme all over the USA and around the world.

I would go on mountain bike trips with friends often, on mountain and hill roads, and it was amazing to see the city from the hills. I love Tampa and I love the climate here, I also love the unique animals (gators and certain birds), but it's just sad that there's no mountain 😢
