I work at a ford dealership I wouldn't buy any ecoboost engine these days or even the transit 2.0eco blue engines they all gone so down hill The 1.25 and the black top zetec engines are the best never any issues with them
It seems that while engines have got ever more complex they can't get the basics right - eg. dodgy drivebelts and water pumps. (or timing chains on BMW/MINI engines etc). The last ICE cars on the roads are going to be ones from the late 90s/early 00s that seems to have been the sweet spot for reliability/performance/simplicity.
What a crazy design by ford, remove the driveshaft holder to insert the locking pin, remove the alternator to remove the timing cover, or that tool to align the crank pulley or it wouldnt start Volkswagen is so much easier, takes just a few hours and you dont have to remove unnecessary parts of the car
That timing kit you use is the exact same one I bought for my mondeo 2013 2.0 tdci where the water pump was different according to my mechanic so needed to make small adjustments on the outer case..
Good grief - on my car's chain cam engine, I believe all you have to do to change the water pump is slacken the alternator belt and unbolt the water pump - end of. And all accessible from the top, with the car standing on the road. Your videos encourage me to keep that car going and avoid these modern horrors.
Same with most chain driven engines, took me about half an hour on my swift sport. Piece of piss. Also on my skoda citigo, the waterpump/thermostat unit is on the gearbox side driven by a little belt off the exhaust cam, also a piece of cake. Why can't they all be like this.
Ford use 'Ecoboost' regardless of what petrol engine timing system used - timing chain, dry belt or wet belt. It basically means slightly smaller engine with turbocharger to give improved efficiency for better economy and power. Unfortunately people associate with wet belts.
You do a lot of good work. Not many as detailed and experiences as you and do this sort of work on the daily. How much would you charge to do a timing kit on a 1.6insignina 2018 Iv just paid 2400 to do the chain and replace clutch with oem. Was I robbed.
@@bazmeredith glad to know. Thankyou for resting my mind. If you ever do one make sure the tensioner gasket goes on really does make a difference. If you didn’t no bud.

Agree 100%.
Great engines the older ones were 100%
2013 tdci, never missed a beat!
118k miles, a new timing belt at 100k miles, serviced every year from new, now do oil change every 6 months.
Whats the new 1.5 diesel engine like?
@@Lexusman65 good engines up to yet not had major engine issues so should be a good thing

Totally agree. Nissan primera honda accord from those years, bomb proof
Yep and yet the government will do their level best to get them off the road for more unreliable costly crap
Same with late 90s/early 2000s VAG engines like the 1.9tdi and the 1.8t, engine technology peaked right there for me.
Very lucky he has you as his mechanic. Another great job 👍

My cars engine is a 1.4 hdi (Peugeot, Citroen, Mazda...). Easy to work on. Will avoid Ford and check other modern cars engines before buying.

My Toyota Avensis with 1.8 Valvematic engine was easy for me too!
Great video as ever baz 🤙
Perfect job 👍
Nice work, get a clutch and flywheel change video up soon, they're a good watch 👍🏻
I always mark the crankshaft pully on most engines I do but I didn't know what that little tool was far good to know 👍
Great job baz.how do you lift the car up with the engine mount removed?
What the app your using there? Good job by the way done a few myself 👍🏻
Ford is the only make i really hate working on and if i can turn down work on.
great job baz!!! ...ive got the puma 1.5 st but thats different to the eco boost 1.5 isnt it
Not sure buddy
It is, this is similar to old zetec set up.
@@craiglishman3134yeh very similar to a 1.4 engine. Probably a de stroked 1.7 puma engine with direct injection and a turbo 😂
More top spannering from Baz
Cheers buddy
Hi Baz good video as always, where did you buy your ujs from please
Amazon buddy, dirt cheap the ½ inch one happily takes the abuse from the Milwaukee
Book times are total rubbish thats why most tech hate the job now just to give a pen pusher a job
Why do you have to lock the flywheel as well as the crank?
Crank pin is to set TDC it doesn't lock it as such just sets it's position, the flywheel locking tool holds the crank in place.
I definitely don’t envy you having to work on these ill-thought-out engines on a daily basis. How do you work it all out?
It's second nature to me buddy.... Ask me where the hover is at home and I haven't got a clue 😂😂😂
Head Gasket normally goes before the Water pump starts rattling, Absolute Junk these engines.
How much would this cost for a mk 2 ford kuga 2.0 tdci.
About 450-500 ISH
@@bazmeredith Nice I thought would be alot more than that, thanks.
not a wet belt then
Nope no wet belt on these
