Only suggestion I would add, is to lay cooking foil down on the skid plate, to catch all the oil and help direct it down also helps with cleanup 👍

Outstanding!!!! I installed the plate on the 790 today and just knew that there had to be a way to avoid uninstalling that contraption for a simple oil change.
    Thank you.

Thanks for this helpful video! I have a Moose/AXP skid plate on my KTM 790 and have not tried to change the oil yet so good to know I can without removing it. Thought I had to. I cracked my Moose skid plate at the seam after a decent wipeout and the Moose Racing replaced it without question. It saved the front of my tank from damage. Good company with a good product.

I was thinking for a couple of months to get the AXP/Moose Skid plate to replace my OEM skid plate as it doesn't protect the tanks. Everybody seems to like it but didn't find any actual hands on experience. Just the answer I was looking for Thanx :)

My 890AdvR is in for first service (1,000km) today and I did wonder how the workshop would respond to the AXP plate being 'in the way' - thanks for this...
I have made a note of where in your video you show the very small, gentle, and reasonable use of flex to show them if they have not already encountered this combo.

I have a 890 adv r and also have the Axp skid plate and the recommended billet plate for the fuel pump. I used a dremel to releave the aluminum bracket for some extra space to remove the screens.

Good info. But if it is mine I just pass a little bit a Dremel Grinding on the one the right side. I think it is better thand make pressure, and it is very small grinding.

Appreciate the video. As for filling up with oil. Wouldn't you put in the specified amount, then run the bike, then let it settle? Seems like you filled up to what you wanna see in the sight glass as the desired amount.

I just installed the Camel ADV skid plate on my 2020 790R. It was an easy install and provides great protection. I decided not to get an AXP skid plate after watching a ytube video about a poor fitting AXP skid plate which caused way too much grief. Haven't changed oil yet so can't comment on that aspect.

Is the reason everyone wants to know if you can change oil with AXP skid plate because cumbersome removal? Looks like to remove skid plate, you have to remove the two rear foot peg brackets. Thanks for video.

I have a 2023 890 ADV R and for me those rear bolts were the easiest part of fitting this skid plate. I fought all 4 front bolts and the crap flap fitting for over an hour. If I’m forced to take the skid plate off for oil changes, I’ll just put the factory plate back on.
Not a huge fan of dropping oil with skid plate on. The time you might have saved goes back into trying to clean a bunch of hard to reach areas up in the skid plate.
AXP supposed to be the best, it at the moment, aim feeling like I wasted $300

Well wait a minute he didn’t show how you cleaned it off by what you did got oil all over the bottom of the plate in the engine, so how do you clean that all off and I do love your video and I’m glad I can do that cause I don’t wanna take this beast off. It’s horrible to put on, but how did you clean a pic of thing off?

If you wanted to remove the AXP skid plate for oil change, do you leave the rear metal brackets on? In other words how many bolts do you have to remove in rear to drop the skip plate for oil change?

Thanks for the video !! Have you heard about oil consumption on the 790R engine ?

Just because you can doesn’t mean should. You’ll never clean the oil out of the skid plate and it will get trapped under the metal brackets. Watched this video and was still skeptical, but tried anyway. Once it became clear what a mess this makes, I removed the skid plate. It took 5 min…
I hosed the skid plate down with brake cleaner and even after that, I removed the metal brackets and there was a lot of oil trapped underneath.
Just take the extra 5-10 minutes to remove the skid plate. Your gonna spend at least that much time, if not more, trying to clean up the mess your going to have in the plate.

Sorry for the inconvenience.. the video is about speed and convenience in limited time windows. our group doesn’t have time for lengthy processes at camp. We all know that it will all be a dirty mess in just. A mile or so later. I drilled a 12mm hole in the skid plate just down stream. Almost all of it finds it’s way out quickly..

Could you lean it over some and remove oil plugs, once removed install drain hoses and stand bike back up?

    • @moxomcreativeadventures7722

I drilled a 10 mm hole in the plate right under oil drain. Works slick.
Everything else just gies smoothly. I dont think floppin a 450lb bike over to drain it makes sense.
      thank you though.
      Cheers

Why not just grind that plate a little…would only need 3mm.

Super messy amateurish method! If you can fit the plate its way easier to remove.....
