KTM790R : AXP skidplate oil change
มุมมอง 7K3 ปีที่แล้ว
YES.. !! you can change the oil with the AXP plate still mounted. the plate is flexible enough to wedge a screw driver or wrench and give it a little tweak to get the filters past. I cant say that all will have the same spacing issues because these plates have a little tolerence in the manufacturing as well as any bending or flexxing your bike may have experienced.

Making Non Ethanol gasoline
มุมมอง 31K3 ปีที่แล้ว
we have all tried to start a small engine after it sitting for months only to find out the carb is all gunked up and it wont run.. Modern Gasoline has CORN ALCOHOL added to it and this "ethanol" will absorb water.. then it will sink to the bottom of your gas tank or float bowl and create havoc. I have watched a lot of videos but none of them really covered the easy process to do it..
AXP bashplate clearances and concerns.

I installed this AXP bash plate. It’s a great kit. However I think mine was a little misshaped from factory. Maybe during a cooling process. The fuel pump guard is touching and each side has different spacing.

KTM790 15 tooth sprocket install with Vanasche open cage guard
Dude, skip the math Just show the process Ethanol is hygroscopic. It absorbs moisture,(water) from the atmosphere Give it some water to absorb,(bind to). It forms sort of a slurry Then Remove the ethanol/water slurry (I siphon it off the bottom of the container) Note You need to use octane booster to get the octane rating back up, since the octane rating went down from the ethanol removal
So what does a person do with the ethanol/water that is removed?
In UK we have E10 ( 95 octane standard fuel) or E5 ( super 99 ocatane fel) So how does more ethanol make for a better fuel?
Excellent! Thanks for showing the inside of the pouches... Very helpful
Hello? Maybe list flasher part number with the amazon link maybe?
The plastic cap comes of nicely with a knife. It doesn’t break.
Such a good review! A great product for sure! I like the fact that you can use it separately as a Hydration bag or combine it with the pouch belt for extra capacity!
Now i got it! You should write the next manual! Greetings from Germany!
Because ethanol is miscible in water (it fits in the space between water molecules) the total volume of ethanol+water would be less than 1 gallon.
I have no "rear lifting gear" for my 790 Adv, so I ask somebody to assist me for the measurement. The other person keeps the bike in upright balance, so the rear suspension is fully weight-loaded. Also, the other person slightly pushes the bike backwards against 1st gear that is shifted in, so the push backwards stretches the upper part of the chain. Then I do the 2-5-mm-test as being shown in this video. Chain slack is quite big indeed, but all very experienced workshop staff members of my trusted KTM dealer confirmed this to be correct. And i also got the impression that the chain slapping that I observed particularly when cruizing at low rev's with a more tightened chain, is getting reduced by more slack. Sounds unlogic but it is obvious.
Não faça isso, você vai inalar gases tóxicos e correr risco de incêndio. O custo benefício não compensa também!!!
That's like saying you should never put gas in your vehicle at a gas station. Because there's 10 other people putting gas in at the same time. GTFOH
Super messy amateurish method! If you can fit the plate its way easier to remove.....
They need to get rid of ethanol
I’ve heard of up to 30% ethanol in supposedly 10% ethanol gas, hopefully a rarity, so don’t measure 10% of water to add as most guys do, add at least 20% to capture possible extra ethanol. And I do wonder how many of the whitish containers used are for water or wine and beer making, and not suitable for gas which would slowly dissolve the plastic, so you get rid of ethanol but add plastic 😱🤣😂🤣😱
A little Marvel Mystery in the Oil (MMO) in the gas negates the ethanol and gives extra power via oil. Lubricates the top end while running also. Here in Florida with the heat and humidity its a must.
Thank you for this video - very helpful. I was wondering if there are any tips on how to do it properly during the trip, when you are not not able to carry central stand or jack with you?...

Great review!! Thank you.
Two years on...has the heat shield done the job? Have you had any more boiling fuel issues at high altitude and in hot temperatures?
Good video. Should have product links for all those items mentioned. 👍🏼
How big does it get?
Good vest to use when I go hunting!
That was a fantastic overview! Very professional, great job.
Great video and explanation. I’ve been riding with my WLF pack vest for about two years now. It’s awesome!
good advice!
Where did you get the heat shield? or from which vendor? Thank you
Good. Let her root injail.
Only suggestion I would add, is to lay cooking foil down on the skid plate, to catch all the oil and help direct it down also helps with cleanup 👍
If you don’t like ethanol in gasoline vote the pricks out who forced the oil companies to add it.
Well wait a minute he didn’t show how you cleaned it off by what you did got oil all over the bottom of the plate in the engine, so how do you clean that all off and I do love your video and I’m glad I can do that cause I don’t wanna take this beast off. It’s horrible to put on, but how did you clean a pic of thing off?
In our town, a local fuel distributor sells ethanol free 91 octane at their warehouse. The local Walmart gas station has a separate pump which sells ethanol free 87 octane. I usually get the 91, cuz my motorsickle likes that better. Just saying, it doesn't hurt to call around to different distributors to see if they offer "corn free," fuels.
Is the ethanol-free using the same fuel hose as the non-ethanol-free? If so, there may be quite a bit of ethanol-laced fuel within the hose. If filling a small container. Put the first gallon or so into your car, and then fill the container.
@@chrismiller100 They're on different hoses so you're not getting any residual ethenol gas.
You did what my chemistry instructor termed, "...And an excess of dihydrogen oxide added to the gasoline ethanol mixture...". Or something like that...
My 890 Duke came with the one wire sticking out of the switch! Looks like I've got a project for tomorrow. Explains why I can't start my bike in gear with the clutch lever in.
Just because you can doesn’t mean should. You’ll never clean the oil out of the skid plate and it will get trapped under the metal brackets. Watched this video and was still skeptical, but tried anyway. Once it became clear what a mess this makes, I removed the skid plate. It took 5 min… I hosed the skid plate down with brake cleaner and even after that, I removed the metal brackets and there was a lot of oil trapped underneath. Just take the extra 5-10 minutes to remove the skid plate. Your gonna spend at least that much time, if not more, trying to clean up the mess your going to have in the plate.
Sorry for the inconvenience.. the video is about speed and convenience in limited time windows. our group doesn’t have time for lengthy processes at camp. We all know that it will all be a dirty mess in just. A mile or so later. I drilled a 12mm hole in the skid plate just down stream. Almost all of it finds it’s way out quickly..
Justgot my vest and I wondered what the extra straps were for, thanks for the video!
Glad you enjoyed it.. It’s a slick setup.. I change it up as needed depending on the ride..
Do you have any vids on your aftermarket throttle side grip install? Did you just widdle off the stock grip and glue on your pillow top?
The so Rock throttle tube has “sharkfins” on it that make it impossible to slide off. Glued as well. Cut the old grip in long strips about 1/4” apart. Peel off like string cheese. Then shave the sharkfins down smooth.. reinstall new grips of choice. I used WD-40.. it’s an old trick.. slides on easy .. then gets gummy sticky.. works great.
@@moxomcreativeadventures7722 Thanks, My dealer just donated an extra 790 throttle tube for me to experiment on. Thanks for the tips!
Very thorough review. I’m sold!
Thank you.. I’m still using it on rides and have had many inquiries..
What do you do with the water and ethanol removed?
No one ever mentions what they do with the left overs.
Take a guess! Although someone commented that they burn it in there backyard fire pit
Where did you get the heat shield? or from which vendor? Thank you
helpful vid
So inspired from this video
awesome answered my questions thanks bro!
Good info. But if it is mine I just pass a little bit a Dremel Grinding on the one the right side. I think it is better thand make pressure, and it is very small grinding.
The only thing you might have missed in your video is that the KTM Service manual says to "lift the motorcycle with the rear lifting gear" for chain tension check/adjustment, which is explained earlier in the manual as a swing arm stand. You did it with a pit stand that unloads the rear suspension. So according to the manuals you should check and adjust the chain tension with the motorcycles weight on the rear suspension. This also means a quick check on the side stand should produce a similar measurement especially if you have a buddy to hold it upright off of the side stand for a second. I haven't checked the tension on my KTM with both weight on and off of the rear suspension but on my KLX that results in just over a half inch difference in measurement.
I checked mine both ways (on and off stand), didn't make much difference in tension. The tried and true way is to remove the shock and push the wheel all the way through the travel. At the tightest spot (for the chain) you should have a little bit of slack (i.e. it shouldn't be taut). Only way to know for sure.
I'm sure someone must have said this but your numbers where off in the 1st jug. 1/2 gallon is not 10% of 4.5 gallons and 1 gallon of water/10% ethanol of 4.5 gallons. You should have had FIVE/5 GALLONS OF FUEL then a 1/2 gallon of water for a total liquid amount of 5.5 gallons then you would or should have ended up with 4.5 gallons clean fuel and 1 gallon of 1/2 water 1/2 ethanol. If your still doing this you should look into a 2 or 3 gallon glass separatory funnel it makes it so easy so clean......
Very educational video
Well done Sir
Can the two wires just be twisted together to bypass the switch without causing issues with the ECU?
Good question! I want to know this too
I have the same cuestion. But i think they need a resistance or some thing like that :s The best option is "always in push mode"
It causes issues. Fuel maps, ignition maps, etc., are tied to the clutch safety switch. Some motorcycles take a bypass easily, these aren't one of them unfortunately.
Definitely not. Mine's broken in a different way - the thing that comes in and out just stays in one position. It causes some weird problems with ignition and bike stalling randomly as the ECU thinks the clutch is always pulled.
Appreciate the video. As for filling up with oil. Wouldn't you put in the specified amount, then run the bike, then let it settle? Seems like you filled up to what you wanna see in the sight glass as the desired amount.
