I bought my Goldwing in 1986 and it is still running great, just had it inspected for the annual state inspection and it passed with no problem, I have been riding this one bike for 36 years now and plan to keep riding as long as I can, I am 75 years old now and still love my 1986 Wing.
A little late to this one but I'm just enjoying your content and will likely subscribe in the future. It's almost 2024, the 2023 GW's are selling so those Facebook/Instagram brain surgeons/rocket scientists got it wrong........ again. As the baby boomer GW owners age out, Honda loses a lot of their fan base. However, since 2015 there has been a concept trike under constant development by Honda engineers called the Neo Wing. It leans in turns differentiating it from a Bombardier Spider. This may be the vehicle to bring back all those GW retirees to Honda and maybe by 2025. It would be interesting to hear a segment from you, CM on this Neo Wing concept bike.
Hi Chris: here's my points to add to your list: Improve parking brake on DCT - electronic lock? ; Air filter replacement in less than four hours; Included Homelink...
Glad I saw this comment. I didn’t know 2025 will be the 50th anniversary. My dad had a gold wing when I was a kid and would take me on rides with his around the country roads by our house. Ima start saving up now for a 50th anniversary.
@@dinospumoni8860 Don't bother. By that time Bifen economics will have trashed the gas engine almost out of existence and the emissions standards for that year the GW as it is will not pass mustard. I play the wait and see game. When the GW hit 27k I stopped pretending I wanted another one.
Great video, Below a couple of things I like to see on newer models • Hornbutton for me is muscle training, but can be redesigned • Full screen LCD like the 2022 BMW k1600 gtl, customizable of course • I do like a built in GPS, but with internet connectivity for weather, traffic, fuel prices etc. • Intercom system for rider and passenger. Also the option to share phone calls. • Passenger controls, so they can pick what they want to listen to, and adjust volume • Better seat. Adjustable • Volt meter, oil temp, trans temp • Redesign the filler for the fuel tank • Automatic suspension adjustment • Wireless CP/AA, wireless charging • Blindspot monitoring • Adaptive Cruise control
Good points. I have my final retirement bike, 2005 Goldwing. My wife is riding her 2009 Vulcan 900. We will not spend the money on new to us bikes, unless my rich uncle gets out of the poor house. EV stuff will change many times with technology innovations. Goldwing is the King to me. You are spot on with “who would want a 100 mile touring bike. Thanks
Hey CM, here in Australia we also have supply issues with the 2022 GW, some reports of people waiting 10 months or more. Agree with your wish list but would also like to see blind spot monitoring as the Triumph Tiger already has. Enjoy your videos, keep them coming!
I've had Wings since November 1975 when I bought my GL1000 and have been riding Gold Wings ever since; I currently have a 2015 40 Anniversary model, my 6th Wing. I don't like the small bags and trunk on the current generation, although Honda did go to a larger trunk in 2021. I'd like the bags and trunk to be the same size as the ones on the GL1500SE. Those were great, roomy and a good useful shape. Honda needs to offer a greater color choice and keep the manual transmission.
Let's continue with the following: 1. Standard 12V plug. 2. Home link standard. 3. Better option for highway pegs, and mounting position. 4. Espresso dispenser
Honestly ANY oil changer can install a damn 12V plug bruh. Cmon, stop bitchin. Now that espresso dispenser.....hmmmmmmmmmmm. I got one in my sidebag with a direct pump line to my cupholder. By the time I get to the 3rd shot I already got the DT's from caffeine overload.
The Honda goldwing will never go away or go away it is an incredible motorcycle. My best friend Lloyd bought one in late 75 it was great fun to ride. No faring or anything else on the bike. We had guys riding Honda's Norton's Kawasaki's Harley's Triumphs and Moto Guzzi bikes. Goodwings will never be out of Honda's catalog.
Hi Chris, So I have a 2019 DCT touring. I did notice my wireless headset had to connect in a certain order. Make sure your phones bluetooth is off first. 1 connect the wireless headset to goldwing audio system. When connected. Then plug in the android cell phone. Then turn on the Bluetooth on cell phone. For some reason that always works for me. If you ever go out of sequence you can also go straight to audio settings then manually select Bluetooth headset and that also works for me as well. Hope this helps some of your viewers.
Hey Chris, I agree with your improvements suggestions. Here's a few things I would like; 1- Mic off switch. kill wind noise when connected. 2 - Both you & passenger able to connect to the bike systems(radio). 3 - Better lite handle bar controls buttons 4 - Locks for all compartments. 5 - bigger horn button. Keep your vids coming.
They need to make Homelink as a standard feature. I still want the Nav built in because if you have no signal on your phone then it acts as a backup. I do use CarPlay but would like to be able to use it WITHOUT a headset specifically for Apple Maps and to use the built in speakers the GW has.
I think for 2023 there will only be DCT models. Goldwing's are just that, "gold" for Honda. I have 3 wings in my garage right now. I would consider selling two of them and replacing them with a new(er) Wing..
Chris, everything you talked about is right on. We should be able to ask for all the options you mention. Yes it will in fact drive up the price ,But, make some of them as plug and play add ons. Thanks for this update. And NO goldwing is NOT going anywhere. Mike/turtle
Great blog as always. I have owned a 21 model Bagger for 10 months here in England. For me it would be in order of preference 1. More comfortable seat 2. Bigger panniers 3. Adaptive suspension (Baggers model or at the the option) 4. Option for a removable top box 5. Bluetooth connectivity 6. More BHP. Great low down toque but not so great from 80 ( unlike K bike) 7. Better quality speakers 8. Better radio reception 9. Full digital dashboard 10. Cruiser pegs.
Hey CG! I have a 2016 Goldwing level 3. Love the bike but like you there are things I'd like to see on another one. I am a 6'2" 250 lb aggressive rider. I love the Twisties, I have toured all the lower 48 and do lock and lean riding. This is my 3rd wing. The last 2 I have had to up grade the suspension with stiffer springs. Stock is just way too soft. Next I'd like to see some of the storage space back in the bike because it is a tour bike right? More like the 02 -17 models. Make a F6B version and the tour version to give people a choice. Replace that stupid GPS!!! Takes too long to punch in a address. Make it like a cell phone, type it in or use voice orders. I do agree with you on maybe doing something with wireless communication, bike to bike or to the passenger. Keep the 6th gear but don't govern the motor. Next you got to keep the price if these bikes down. You talked about the profit they are making....getting above $30k is going to hurt sales. Heck dirt bikes are now $10k. Way too much for a dirt bike and what people can afford in a toy. I would not go crazy on the electronic crap. More stuff to go wrong. Also offer a taller seat for us taller drivers over 6' tall. This could be my last Wing....I care nothing for the 18's and up. Like my comfort of my 16. Got to go but this quickly what changes is like to see.
I bought my 2018 in 2019 best Goldwing ever. This makes my 6th GW. I started with a 1985 1200cc in 2007, and began upgrading with used later models until I bought my first new one 2016
On the next I'd like to see the cruise control set on the left, digital speed on the dashboard, both tyre pressure at the same time, a switch to set the engine speed for changing gears. Lateral fog lights. Ciao Cruiseman
Nice wishlist ! my 2 addition would be: 1) no possibility to engage gear if park brake is "on" (same as with sidestand) 2) General power shutdown - including lights - when you go awy from the bike to avoid battery colapse Have a nice day
Changes to future GW’s - automatic parking brake release, touch screen info, top loading saddle bags/removable, garmin based gps with on route programing capabilities (ie. nearest gas station on my route, weather).
I have a 2016 Wing and a 2018 standard that I use for sporting around. I would have liked to see a revamped 2017 instead of a downsized 2018 sport cruiser.
Definitely the horn button is a safety issue. Twice I had to take the shoulder because another car wanted to share the lane I was in. I had to have hit everything but the horn trying to find it.
Work on muscle memory problems that YOU have. The horn button is perfect just the way is is NOW! You are probably dealing/ or not with "Interference." A placement of a horn button from a different GW or different year GW can cause your continual complaints. "Work it on out now..." Good Rides
Nice work here Cruiseman. I think you liked some things about that K-bike. I surely hope that Honda will see their way to continue building their venerable flagship and further that they pay heed to all of your requests!
Hey cruseman, I just purchased a non tour 2022. Can't argue with anything you said in this vid, your spot on. I can say I absolutely love the bike even with its flaws. I've spent past 30+ years on Harley's. Love them as well but harley and technology don't go together very well. There trying but Honda has the edge that's for sure. They can always be better though. I personally can't see them dropping the Goldwing any time soon if ever. Maybe elsewhere in the world but not in the USA. Enjoy the vids, great job and keep it up
Great vid, Chris. I'm quite sure the Goldwing will live on until the World Economy implodes. My 1st Wing was a black 1977 for $2,695. Started touring at age 19. Currently riding a 2002 with 428, 000 miles, and still amazed at how smooth and comfy it is. As snazzy and technologically advanced as the 2018+ Wing is, I feel that it repells many of the older riders, due to its smaller size, harder seat, and smaller windshield. [ ST 1800 ] The local GWRRA members around St.Louis all ride the 2001-2017 1800s. No one has yet to buy the newer Wing. It's not comfy enough, if you are 250 pounds, especially if your 200 pound wife wants to squeeze in behind you. ( typical scenario). And since many have read my articles in Wing World magazine about 500,000 mile or higher Wings ( Phil Steiner now at 722,000 on his 2015 ), they know their bikes will outlive them. Add to that; many have spent big Bux for their trike conversion, and don't wanna fork over almost 50 Grand for a new GW trike. Your thoughts..?
Love the video. I had a 1999 wing when I was 34. I’ve had many bikes since then. I now just want the ability to purchase a 50 th anniversary model. A Two tone gold works for me. The 2018 plus gold wing in my opinion is one of the finest designed bike s ever made. Keep the videos coming and any new information you can gather relating to the future of the goldwing .
This is a wonderful video you've put together. While I'm not yet a GW owner/rider...yet, I'm certainly in love with the GW, especially the DCT-Tour. Recently I've come across two problems that unsuspecting GW riders have been contending with and I want to know if Honda can mitigate these two problems through future design modifications. Problem number one is the eventual premature failure of the DCT clutch system experienced by riders who continuously ride the GW DCT-Tour at low enough speeds to have the clutch engage/disengage (and what lies in between this) actuation repeat itself too frequently to its early destruction. I hope Honda will educate future buyers of the GW DCT-Tour about this type of clutch-wrecking riding style since such damage will not be covered by warranty. What I would like to know as a potential buyer is "Can/will Honda be able to modify the DCT system to overcome this inherent weakness of being overworked at the slow speed regimes involving the engage/disengage engine speeds of 1,000 to 1,500 rpm range (am I correct about that rpm range)?" Problem number two is the premature wearing-out of the front shock absorber's bumper due to how close the shock absorbing strut gets/stays when weight (of rider or more) is placed on the bike...there just isn't any useful strut-travel space left. I see too many complains about the shocks being too soft and hitting the bumper too much, too frequently unless the roads are blemish-free. I'm worried that in my part of the world (Abuja, Nigeria) where tarred roads of developed urban areas are 90% riddled with bump-rich blemishes (some smooth, others very rough) and heavy, extended, crawl-pace traffic jams are a daily challenge which means, owning a GW DCT-Tour will be incredibly costly in terms of repeated front strut bumper and clutch replacements. What is Honda doing about these unresolved issues?
Honda will put all the trike builders out of business if they drop the Goldwing, and trikes are a sizeable chunk of Goldwings out there, in the US in particular. The waiting list for a conversion is 10 months in some places. You are right, demand is a big part of the problem, and parts supply shortages contribute to not just motorcycles. I think if people can be patient and Honda doesn't make an irrational decision we should be seeing new Goldwings in the future as well. Heck, it's their flagship product - they would be mad to discontinue it without announcing a replacement.
I certainly hope to see the Goldwing for many years to come. I like many of your suggestions for future Wings. I would like to add one. Allowing the call screen to be placed in the background, where the user can resume navigation and using a turn chime during active phone calls.
I have a 2009. Can’t believe they haven’t in all these years haven’t come up with a better air filter change system. The best bike ever for what it’s designed for but the process to change an air filter is ridiculous.
Pre-wired CB harnesses. Honda manual says 3 hours to install CB, push-to-talk and related wires and antenna. It took a local Honda dealer 21 hours to install a Honda CB on a 2018... and they charge by the hour. Relocate... no, add additional brake lights to the trunk similar to the previous model. I want the truckers to know when I'm putting my brakes on and the current brake lights are mounted too low. Side lights, front and back, to be seen better at night. Better tip-over bars, they don't have to be as big as the previous model, just a little bigger than what's on it now.
Love the videos. Had a 1999 wing when I was 34 now I just want the ability to purchase a 50 th anniversary model. Please keep us informed on any new information.
Shane O'Dwyer There is no doubt in my opinion that the supply chain issue is the main reason the rumour mill is hot on no more Honda Goldwings. I ordered my Goldwing in March 2021 and received a 2022 model in July. This was purely due to shortages of about everything related to COVID and parts. Because I'm from Australia we are usually the last in the pecking order. Good things come to those who are patient.
The 6Gen Goldwing's front suspension is not "REVOLUTIONARY". It's merely a varient of Norman Hossacks patented design later purchased by BMW and promoted by BMW as 'Duo-Lever'. This design defies both unsettling front wheel 'Brake-dive' under ALL breaking as well as low-speed bump-steer in those natural ground or distressed, pot-hole addled parking lot situations. This suspension also does away with traditional 'steering stem' bearings and their need to be 'frequently' replaced in 500+lb motorcycles.
I agree with u 100% on what honda needs to do I had 2012 wing went to a 22 I've owned voyagers 12, Suzuki cavalcade. Xs11 and started on a dressed 750 four. Watch ur stuff a lot keep it up
Same issue back in 2011! After last market crash in 2008 along with Honda moving motorcycle factory to Japan and turning Ohio plant into a car plant! Ship chain e world closing down over COVID-19!! As an emissions specialist as a master Honda car mechanic! All Honda's are the cleanest running engines PERIOD!!!
Humm honestly I love my 2018! Have no issues with my blue tooth helmet connecting! All your wants will only raise the price of the Goldwing! I've put a custom seat on mine but went back to the stock seat and have ridden mine coast to coast spending up to 17hrs in a day riding pulling a time out deluxe camper trailer 2 up very comfortable with no issues
The Headset issue is a legit complaint. Headset>Phone>connected...disconnected....Unplug phone...connected...disconnected.... The other issue is you should be able to use CarPlay without a mic, sure...some features won't work, but that can't be that hard to figure out. The side bags are still entirely too small. (I have a 2018 and the trunk is not good as we all know). I think the drone is a necessary fix too. Honda Suspension is "soft" across the line and under sprung, including this bike. I thought it was the best handling bike I've ever owned until I realized how under-sprung it was after installing Traxxion Dynamics Suspension...then I was terrified Honda sold a bike that was "under-sprung" on the ride home. At a MINIMUM the rear Pre-load needs to be either individual CLICKS (even if digital) or revamped to make the 1-1Luggage 2-2 w/Luggage settings even...as Max says...they go from 0 to 15 from 1 to 1 W/Luggage and 24.5 2 Up and 25 2 Up w/Luggage...useless and nonsensical adjustment ratio. The suspension is the biggest problem I have with the bike and it's an expensive, but worthwhile fix if you plan on keeping the bike as I do. The kickstand pad (Max and others make a bolt-on) is entirely too small for a bike of this size. Tip over Protection is barely there and could easily have been beefed up. Stereo (I've heard is better on the 21-22) is OKAY, but the rear speakers on my 18 can't be heard by the passenger. I regret no spending the money on the upgraded amp and speakers to a degree but didn't want to lose ANY of the ALREADY TOO SMALL space in the sidebag. Rear Seat Space: My wife is 5'3" and small and if we had not done the "trunk relocation kit" from TD I wouldn't have a backrest. The "average" US Passenger is not going to have the room they were used to on the LAST GEN, another issue that isn't HONDAS FAULT but is going to affect sales. GRAB RAILS: Even the upgraded ones are not safe, again...TD has an upgrade, but Honda missed even when they attempted to fix it. 2018-19 are downright dangerous without the upgrade. They made some good moves with the trunk and pre-built luggage rack on the TOP BAG on the updated one, but your assessment of the "next level" to compete with the other options in TOURING is spot on. Some may be too expensive or "tech needs to catch up", but many are not.
SPOT ON , ACCESSIBILITY OF SOME ENGINE COMPONENTS , REMOVING A LOT OF PLASTIC , ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS , MAYBE THEY THOUGHT OF " LABOR CHARGES " FOR THEIR DEALERSHIPS ??????
wow, I think you covered just about all aspects of improvements for the 2023. I would be quite disappointed if the Goldwing was discontinued. My 70th birthday is on the horizon and a 2023 would be a nice present. It would be my third. My first was an 84 Aspencade when I imported two sleeper Travlite campers into Ontario Canada. They were so easy to tow and very comfy for a compact two sleeper. My current one is a 2003 with 160 thousand km, still runs almost like new. Hope "they" listen to your excellent suggestions.
The BIGGEST problem with the current wing is the lack of capacity in the panniers. They need to be a lot bigger. We are going away for 4 weeks around Europe soon and all you can carry is about 5 days worth of clothes.
I've had a 1200 GW...I own a 2003 GW. I think The GW has been turned into a creature that is not really a motorcycle anymore. Even my 2003 is massive overkill for a bike, The GW is a tech showcase. A picture of what is possible on two wheels. Most of the riders I know, who are older, are going back to the simpler, more traditional motorcycles...750 cc or lower. And you can get a lot of nice bikes for much, much less than a 30,000. I mean really, talking about horn buttons and Nav screens, etc. This sounds laughable - what does any of that have to do with biking? Really. It sounds like people don't have anything better to do than obsess over insignificant minutiae. Boys and their toys - I get it. But it has become quite ridiculous overall. $30,000 plus for a bike? We have reached the crazy, alternate dimension.
All of these suggestions are great! In addition, how about a larger foot on the sidestand? All that weight on a narrow contact area means my bike sometimes sinks into the surface!
Cruisemans, great Content I am the proud owner of a 2022 black black tour DCT.. I have never seen another one on the road in the state of Washington. It is an amazing bike
CM - I have a 2021 standard GW, and a Sena headset. I don't agree with your faith in Android Auto. The only place I can get it to work consistently is on major highways. As soon as I go to rural areas, it constantly cuts out on me. Even though the Honda navigation system is difficult, it is generally working when Android Auto is not. I find that Google maps on the handheld, and the Calimoto App are only ones that consistently work well for me. Keep up the good work.
I waited 4 months to get my 22 DCT Tour from Storm Lake, IA Honda; but got it 2 weeks ago. They didn’t get any for months and then they got at least 5 all of a sudden. I think they sold them. I think the Goldwing goes on in the USA.
A dynamic cornering light is missing badly - driving around Switzerland and many hours along mountain areas, the bike is not safe during nights to drive around - CHF 39'000.00 and no dynamic lights is a joke! You need to drive your GW in mountain areas to see what's really essential cruiseman! But thanks for all other points which would be good to have...
Now that BMW, with it's R-18 heritage series, has picked-up where Honda left off with the O.G. Valkyrie, I'd like to see Honda reissue an updated 21st century F-6C lineup featuring, ABS; 6-speed gearbox a/o 7-speed DCT; Cruise Control, Integrated info-tainment, GPS, radio & communication systems: Reverse. And White Wall tires!
Guess I am an odd duck, but I absolutely love my 2021 Goldwing and cannot imagine anything else! Coming from a 98 and 03, previously that also had non lockable cubbies, due to previous owners adding knobs. All of the technical stuff becomes trivial and I believe a Lexus MSRP is quite higher. This bike is on its own level with the double wishbone and DCT. As for mention of high demand and low supply, I believe Honda will continue with what's developed. Wing on!
2021 Honda Goldwin, first wing. The buttons for all the accessories should be installed from the factory as other brands do. Having to install them is just crazy. If you don't have that accessory then a simple message, "Home Link Not Installed" will do. All the accessories should be plug and play. No wiring required. No Dremel. Yamaha did this right with the Venture. The "Home" button should cycle through all the options, not just take you to "Home". There should be a menu option to "hide" menu options you don't care about. Triumph did this right. For example, I would like to "hide" AM and FM from the Audio source menu. Parking brake ON, no shift available warning. No need for navigation, just improve Apple Car Play / Andriod Auto. Gas tank, at least 6.0 gallons, 6.5 even better. The horn is awesome, the location of the button not so much, I always end up downshifting on my DCT. The seat, OMG, it's just silly putty. I'm sure it's all about weight / EPA / show room sales but it just sucks after 45 minutes.
How about tunable shifting points in sport mode. I'd like to dull the take off of 1st gear in sport... too touchy... also.... when you shift down on the DCT in a curve a sensor to hold that gear until the bike is back upright.... and the ability to move 7th gear to higher speeds... and while we're on it, make 7th gear taller so it's a lower rpm at 75 or 80 for better fuel economy on the interstate.... you covered everything else. Good job!
Excellent information. I do not believe GW will be discontinued. They may not use the name Goldwing anymore but something else that changes its image but it is still a Goldwing. Being in the market for quite long, I do not believe not just Honda, any manufacture will discontinue like that simply because of the rumor about new emission. Like you said, Honda probably already have known all these (they anticipated all the potential challenges) before the EU announced its new emission policy. They may come up with new version of hybrid (like cars) by reducing the size of its engine that means, less fuel to burn, longer distance to reach and they may push to 100% DCT (which I do not like it but have no choice). And they will refine its current features and benefits by increasing to a much better quality material used to build it. This is especially the plastic parts. Honda should look into its small compartment door on the tank which is very poor and cheap design of its plastic material. So weak and it moves. They should consider replacing it with a carbon fiber or fiberglass with a nice finish. I do agree with you on its navigation, they should not have it permanent in the unit and at one point it will be out dated. Use the apps is brilliant idea. You bring up many good points. It is funny though, why motorcycle manufactures never give any good presentation of their products, instead people like you guys are doing it for them without pay. Apart from a hobby and excitement to do something is another thing but shame to the manufacturers and it is their job to do it. Why they can do for cars but not the motorcycles? Anyway, thank's for your hard work and keep it up.
Great Wish list!! However, I think all the things on your wish list would push the price into the 35 to 40K range. Some items on your wish list are readily available on the BMW K1600GTL that you test rode. I would be happy with just a simpler way to open the fuel cap, lockable cubbies, improved Bluetooth and cornering ABS. I think Honda could add those upgrades without breaking the bank. ps. I cannot ride the BMW mentioned comfortably 2 up, due to being vertically challenged as many riders are. Besides the low center of gravity on the Goldwing is priceless!!
Quite a list, but the seat on a Gold Wing should be a no brainer since it one the things that is simple to fix and makes everyone mad quickly.I just watched a video from a very old harley Dealer and that was their complaint about the Road Glide. You spend 30K on a motorcycle and it should come with a comfortable seat.
You guys in the US of A are really lucky. We in Singapore have to pay price in excess of USD58K. So it is so exhorbitant here... we can only dream of having one.
Two things First, optional on every model: Landing Gear. I'm almost 60 and hope for 30 to 40 more years before I want landing gear, but there are a few good add-ons available. Honda could collaborate with a good version and make huge sales in the aftermarket, maybe even in the market. This is THE bike the older generation uses till they can't hold it up and then commiserate over the choice to trike it or quit. Second, A whole new model. I agree battery and motor to go fully electric on a bike this size is a nogo, period. HOWEVER, New plug-in Hybrid tech is getting compact enough to fly, maybe in 2024. With the electric assist taking the bulk of low end take-off torque, a V-4 or CP4 engine could easily hold cruising speed. Add that space savings to half the gas tank or less, and you have room for a 20 mile battery. Commuting happens on a Solar charger purchased separately, and Touring efficiency jumps to 80 MPG. Sure, by 2030 the Rebel 1100 may be replaced by a fully electric Rebel E for cafe-hopping and 200 mile group rides, but there will still be a future market for more efficient GW as well.
Good video Cruiseman 👍🏻👍🏻 I would also like to see Honda Goldwing equipped with a touch screen like Indian & BMW has on their touring and bagger models That cheap plastic dash cover has to go Keep up the good jog & Ride safe👍🏻👍🏻
As usual you are spot on with your thoughts and potential upgrades that should strongly be considered. If they made all those upgrades I would sell my 2019 dct immediately
I would like the cruise control set mph indicator to come on when you activate the cruise control. The temperature can come back when I deactivate the cruise control. Having to stop the bike and use the main console to change from temperature to cruise control set mph makes no sense.
Great video and suggested improvements. How about a standard drive-off center stand? I installed an after market drive off stand and it makes parking the dct a dream (compared to using all my weight to lift via the higher standard center stand) and it makes loading up my passenger so much easier and safer than using the side stand.
I'm wanting a Goldwing next bike purchase and I'm hoping that all you have listed will be available in 2 to 3 years when I'll be in the market. But if they don't I will not but a Goldwing! In the mean time I'll keep watching your channel for the updates. Thanks! And I agree with you 💯👍
Nah, no chance! Love my 2021 GW TOUR DCT and it’s got super low emissions and demand is amazingly strong. If you can find one, buy it! No future for an electric GW with an 80 mile range at 50 mph and so much heavier with gigantic batteries
100% agree Gonzalo. Whiners and complainers. Competition is similarly priced and they are all imperfect somewhere. Life’s way too short. Just buy the bike!
@@roadglide yessir Captain. This is just fake bloggers trying to deny sales of GW BUT IT AINT WORKING There’s none available in South Florida and 2 in entire state of N Carolina. People aren’t fooled
I have trouble finding the new goldwing to be comfortable enough to spend 18 hours in the saddle as my 2010&2015 models. I've rode both new ones and like the dct but the lack of storage and wind ,rain protection isn't Worth the trade off.
Does anyone have recommendations on a Dolly to easily move a GW in a garage? I have limited space and a Dolly I could put a GW on it's center stand would be helpful.
Hey CM I have a 22 goldwing most annoying it does not come with electronic suspension, I've had to order a 23 goldwing tour plus the conversion kit to convert back to a Bagga style...
Longer travel range between fuel stops. I understand that requires more room for gas or better economy engine.. Being able to get at least 250 miles between fuel stops is a must @ 75-80 mph Deflectors to direct engine heat towards the driver, or away from, like the old wings used to have The front of the bike should come with clear plastic bra for protection. Stereo with better sound definitely a must. Parking brake on DCT model is a problem, needs a disable switch when brake it's engaged.
I think the apple play and/or the ability to mirror an android phone to the tft screen of the goldwing is most desired. This is cos we can get the Google map services mirrored on the screen. Google maps definitely offers the most up to date map services. It is far more efficient and up to date as compared to any Garmin device. Furthermore, Google maps is free and a static map can be preloaded for trips just in case there is no Internet services in some of the places that you might traverse in your trip. The best thing that Honda has made in this function.
In a Nikkie Asia article (Asian financial times) they said that the Japanese motorcycle manufacturers are discontinuing some models to meet Japan's new emission standards and they put the blame on the R&D and raw material costs and added weight related to upgrading and retrofitting catalytic converters and related software.
I haven't found a navigation system that I like any better than my Garmin Zumo XT except for the Navigation system in my Tesla Model S and Tesla Model 3. I would not want an integrated navigation system included in any motorcycle. I don't use my phone when I ride. In Nevada cell phone coverage is only good in urban areas and some towns. I use the Zumo to play music as well as provide navigation. I ride with a guy who complained a lot about the Gold Wing navigation. I think they should have omitted it and executed some of your other ideas.
I have been on and around GW’s since 1975. My dad had the first one sitting right next to his full-dress 1974 CB750K…a bike I had but gave it to someone who wanted to restore it and I felt it needed more love than I had time for. I cut my road bike teeth on his Aspencade as a 15 yr old kid. The bike has come a long way and Honda, in some ways, has been very conservative on what they changed or added. Not surprised that some of the “cool” features have been lacking but also the demographic changed at the start of this century which has caused some changes but still…very conservative changes. The perfect GW to me, us, you may not match and I think they realize the original riders have hung up their helmets and gloves so it is time but…a big but…turning the ship is difficult when you have 50 years invested in a platform that people hang onto for what 8-10 years? If they released the ultimate GW with all that WE want, riders of the the 5-10 or older models may walk or feel “cheated” since it is as predictable today as it was 10 or so years ago. The field is not as crowded as it once was when we had Yamaha and Suzuki touring bikes that slid right next to Honda GWs and really European bikes didn’t sit in that crowd. The advent of crouch rockets that really are way cheaper to produce and are basically throwaway dominated much of the 90s and into this century but the gap grew huge. The world is now super sport bikes, cruisers and true road bikes. Honda’s model seems to me to be, look at what the others do, water it down a bit but put the focus one quality. Even their 1 to 2 season runs of certain models have become legendary but they still didn’t stretch the limit except with few exceptions and in those cases it was the production of a bike that no one else dared (CBX, turbos, flat trackers for example). Still though the platforms shared something and no matter what it was you saw it and recognized it as a Honda. Might surprise you but they actually release “testbed” models every decade or so. The Honda Rune comes to mind. It was a GW slung into a chassis and littered with chrome and features that actually found their way into the next generation of GWs themselves. I would say that your GW will be running long after my BMW gets to the point that no one could afford to fix it or even be able too. There is Honda’s strength. They have a solid platform that really they mess with very little and a 30 year old model still looks damn nice. Can’t say that about many others really. Also electronics are expensive. Expensive to engineer or shoehorn in (properly), keep working, avoid warranty issues and support in the long haul for perhaps generations. GPS is cool (life without it?) but it is a maintenance nightmare to keep up to date or to ensure compatibility for perhaps a decade or more of ownership…which is why you are 100% correct, it will become an app just like my BMW has. This all being said (sorry to drone) but a couple things they could do to close the gap that swings a buyer. 1) combine as much as they can into an app for a smart device. Put your radio, navigation, keyless ride, diagnostics, trip computer, ride computer, alarm…etc into an app. Easy to update and anyone under the age of 50 has a smartphone and many of us OVER 50 do as well. That takes away the bulk of the integration and development as well it can live longer. 2) Removable luggage. K1600 does it (I say that and look at the RT). 3) concentration on rider safety and convenience. Blind spot monitors, adaptive cruise, cornering headlights, collision avoidance (flash the rear lights if some is coming up from the rear for example). 4) Add onstar “like” functions. In a crash and unresponsive? It rolls recovery. Get a check engine light? Poke a button and have it diagnosed or make an appointment at the closest dealer. 4) Air adjustable seats with lower back lumbar. Increase seat hardness with a push of a button. 5) Why the heck do you have to change the preload of the suspension? The computer could easily adjust the suspension on the fly even as road conditions change or if you have to make emergency maneuvers. How many times have you had to make a fast swing left or right and either the suspension was set too hard and you felt like you were high siding or to soft and it squatted? 6) Gyroscopic control tied to the ABS and cornering sensors. Lean into a corner too hard or start to lose a rear end and let the gyro force you and the bike back to a neutral position. One word of caution though…and they see this as well. If they do all of this what really sets them apart from their (IMHO) nearest competitor..the BMW K series. Well my take on it would be that it is a Honda. And one thing Honda does better than probably anyone else is engineer something that will run and run and provide the utmost in dependability. No one will say that overall, Honda nails endurance engineering hands down. The engines and drivetrains are VERY forgiving. They tune the motors to provide reliability over performance. That 1800cc motor is easily capable of 200+ bhp but scaling the output back to what people really need means it runs forever. Ya I ride BMWs now, love Honda’s but for some reason I have this odd love/hate relationship with my BMW’s. I will say this though, if I had to choose between my new K bike and a 5+ year old GW for a guarantee that it could get me across the US without any issue or if my life depended on it…I would pick the used Honda. May lack a great radio (at least you have one) or have to adjust the suspension preload manually or the cruise control may surge and the GPS (once again you have one) could be trashed but the motor will keep running with very little special care. My BMWs? Not so sure.
Love you Cruiseman. I’d love to have all those things that you suggested but I really don’t want to pay for them. I have a 21 basic-basic Goldwing. It’s a 6 speed no reverse or walking mode bare bones bike. Or at least as bare bones as a Goldwing can get. I’ve had this bike as of May of 21 when a turkey destroyed my beloved 2010 ST1300. Your videos convinced me to get a new Goldwing and I love you for it. 20,000 miles later I’m a happy guy!!! Apple car play makes the Honda navigation system needless. I don’t even know how to use it. I’m sorry to say but my number 1 request would be to put you out of business by making a regular maintenance item like replacing an air filter a simple affordable thing. I’m a pretty mechanical guy but without your extremely professionally done videos I would never gotten through it. Well worth the money by the way!!!!! Anyway I am very much in love with my Goldwing and am heading out on another 3 week adventure soon so bottom line is it’s as near perfection as a motorcycle can be. At least for me. Keep up the good work Cruiseman and hope to get back to my childhood home in Richardson Texas some day.
I have a request for Honda on the 2018 Touring regarding ride modes and suspension. Why is the suspension setting totally dependent on the Ride Mode setting? Why not have a suspension setting independent of Ride Mode? Rain Mode, Economy Mode= suspension soft and supple, soaks up much road irregularities, comfortable. Can be to mushy, giving an under sprung type of ride. Sport Mode= suspension is like riding a pogo stick. Throttle response very touchy. The irregularities in the road unevenness are bone jarring. The bone jarring jolts are transmitted directly the twitchy throttle response, making smooth control inputs unsettling
I bought my Goldwing in 1986 and it is still running great, just had it inspected for the annual state inspection and it passed with no problem, I have been riding this one bike for 36 years now and plan to keep riding as long as I can, I am 75 years old now and still love my 1986 Wing.
I have a 1984 Aspencade that still looks like new and rides like a dream. As the original owner of your 1986, I imagine it is still a beauty.
@@ksigurdsen034482 I have been riding it so long it just feels like an extension of my own body when I am riding it. LOL
Hi Chris: here's my points to add to your list:
Improve parking brake on DCT - electronic lock? ;
Air filter replacement in less than four hours;
Included Homelink...
I think the Goldwing’s will remain relatively the same until maybe 2025 when the 50th anniversary model is introduced
Excellent point Matt, and I think you are right.
Glad I saw this comment. I didn’t know 2025 will be the 50th anniversary. My dad had a gold wing when I was a kid and would take me on rides with his around the country roads by our house. Ima start saving up now for a 50th anniversary.
Sometimes, all they do is change the badge. Get it while the getting good. If they continue to make them...they continue to make them better
@@dinospumoni8860 Don't bother. By that time Bifen economics will have trashed the gas engine almost out of existence and the emissions standards for that year the GW as it is will not pass mustard. I play the wait and see game. When the GW hit 27k I stopped pretending I wanted another one.
Great video, Below a couple of things I like to see on newer models
• Hornbutton for me is muscle training, but can be redesigned
• Full screen LCD like the 2022 BMW k1600 gtl, customizable of course
• I do like a built in GPS, but with internet connectivity for weather, traffic, fuel prices etc.
• Intercom system for rider and passenger. Also the option to share phone calls.
• Passenger controls, so they can pick what they want to listen to, and adjust volume
• Better seat. Adjustable
• Volt meter, oil temp, trans temp
• Redesign the filler for the fuel tank
• Automatic suspension adjustment
• Wireless CP/AA, wireless charging
• Blindspot monitoring
• Adaptive Cruise control
Cruising used to include some roughness - creating more testosterone. If you want a powered couch, call Tim Taylor :)
You hit the nail on the head. The only thing other than what you said. I wish the saddle bags were a wee bit bigger to go along with the larger trunk.
Yep, I think Cruiseman should have included that , it seems most owners would like more touring storage.
I've had Wings since November 1975 when I bought my GL1000 and have been riding Gold Wings ever since; I currently have a 2015 40
Anniversary model, my 6th Wing.
You mean like on the 01-17 generation!
Side lighting would be a nice standard safety feature aswell as cargo box lighting standard.
Let's continue with the following:
1. Standard 12V plug.
2. Home link standard.
3. Better option for highway pegs, and mounting position.
4. Espresso dispenser
I forgot to mention the Espresso machine!
Magnetic Containment Fusion Drive.
I think you nailed it. My chime in would be better tip over protection added to your list.
Good, or since most tip overs are as slow speeds, how about retractable slow speed landing gear to avoid tipping altogether?
They need to make Homelink as a standard feature. I still want the Nav built in because if you have no signal on your phone then it acts as a backup. I do use CarPlay but would like to be able to use it WITHOUT a headset specifically for Apple Maps and to use the built in speakers the GW has.
I do not need a 3k optional GPS when I can buy a GPS for less than 300.........just in case my phone GPS won't work (which is almost NEVER)
I think for 2023 there will only be DCT models.
For me it would be in order of preference
1. More comfortable seat
2. Bigger panniers
3. Adaptive suspension (Baggers model or at the the option)
4. Option for a removable top box
5. Bluetooth connectivity
6. More BHP. Great low down toque but not so great from 80 ( unlike K bike)
7. Better quality speakers
8. Better radio reception
9. Full digital dashboard
CM, from a Harley Guy, but I started out on a Honda in 1969. I knew that I'd get the straight scoop from The Cruise Man. Great work.
Nice wishlist !
my 2 addition would be:
1) no possibility to engage gear if park brake is "on" (same as with sidestand)
2) General power shutdown - including lights - when you go awy from the bike to avoid battery colapse
Have a nice day
Changes to future GW’s - automatic parking brake release, touch screen info, top loading saddle bags/removable, garmin based gps with on route programing capabilities (ie. nearest gas station on my route, weather).
"Work it on out now..."
Good Rides
[ ST 1800 ]
The local GWRRA members around St.Louis all ride the 2001-2017 1800s.
Mister, Hi from Istanbul ! The legends never die, so do Goldwing 🔥🔥🔥
What I would like to know as a potential buyer is "Can/will Honda be able to modify the DCT system to overcome this inherent weakness of being overworked at the slow speed regimes involving the engage/disengage engine speeds of 1,000 to 1,500 rpm range (am I correct about that rpm range)?"
Problem number two is the premature wearing-out of the front shock absorber's bumper due to how close the shock absorbing strut gets/stays when weight (of rider or more) is placed on the bike...there just isn't any useful strut-travel space left.
Thanks man! Great video - on point with all your... points!
I have a 1976 wing and 1500, test rode the the new DTC "and liked it ☺" Adaptive head light would be a good upgrade.
you are Spot on...Your wish list would make The Gold Wing ..the motorcycle it should be!
You make some fantastic points, about the changes which should be made, to any future GW’S. Bravo 👏🏻
Shane O'Dwyer
There is no doubt in my opinion that the supply chain issue is the main reason the rumour mill is hot on no more Honda Goldwings.
An audible beep or electronic release of the handbrake when 1st gear engaged
I agree with u 100% on what honda needs to do I had 2012 wing went to a 22 I've owned voyagers 12, Suzuki cavalcade. Xs11 and started on a dressed 750 four. Watch ur stuff a lot keep it up
Same issue back in 2011! After last market crash in 2008 along with Honda moving motorcycle factory to Japan and turning Ohio plant into a car plant! Ship chain e world closing down over COVID-19!! As an emissions specialist as a master Honda car mechanic! All Honda's are the cleanest running engines PERIOD!!!
I agree with you 100 percent. And EVs are not going to save us. Supply chain issues for EVs are very complex.
Well looks like it's time to go back to the 4 cyl Gold Wing to meet the EPA new standards. I LIKED the 4 cyl GW way better anyway.
Goldwing tour in Australia start at $53,850 AUD !! Sadly maybe this is a big reason why we don't see many on the roads here
Humm honestly I love my 2018!
I would like to see a more ease of maintenance especially the air filter taking apart the bike is just crazy.
SPOT ON , ACCESSIBILITY OF SOME ENGINE COMPONENTS , REMOVING A LOT OF PLASTIC , ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS , MAYBE THEY THOUGHT OF " LABOR CHARGES " FOR THEIR DEALERSHIPS ??????
Well said Chis. Enjoy your cruise
wow, I think you covered just about all aspects of improvements for the 2023.
Congrats to Frank and many continued safe great rides. I’m 67 and see nothing stopping me either. Go get that 23!
The BIGGEST problem with the current wing is the lack of capacity in the panniers. They need to be a lot bigger. We are going away for 4 weeks around Europe soon and all you can carry is about 5 days worth of clothes.
Also a more scratch resistant instrument panel cover (like what F4 does to their windshields)
Not sure if feasible, but adding another half gallon capacity to the gas tank would be great.
I bought my 21 there (my photo is while it was still in the showroom). GREAT dealership! Enjoy your new bike!
I couldn't agree more. I cannot find a 2022 for sale anywhere. They sell everyone they make. Honda won't kill a cash cow.
Great video! Do you have any suggestions for a resource for purchasing a new GoldWing out of state? My local dealer won't or can't get any in stock!
You guys in the US of A are really lucky. We in Singapore have to pay price in excess of USD58K. So it is so exhorbitant here... we can only dream of having one.
Two things
First, optional on every model: Landing Gear.
I have a 2018 DCT, love it'''Best bike ever.
Hang on to it they are hard to find
Love from DeKalb Mississippi USA 🇺🇸
2018 manual here. Same, best bike I've had.
Good video Cruiseman 👍🏻👍🏻
I would also like to see Honda Goldwing equipped with a touch screen like Indian & BMW has on their touring and bagger models
That cheap plastic dash cover has to go
Keep up the good jog & Ride safe👍🏻👍🏻
As usual you are spot on with your thoughts and potential upgrades that should strongly be considered. If they made all those upgrades I would sell my 2019 dct immediately
I would like the cruise control set mph indicator to come on when you activate the cruise control. The temperature can come back when I deactivate the cruise control. Having to stop the bike and use the main console to change from temperature to cruise control set mph makes no sense.
I want an incredible 50th Anniversary Edition With A Turbo and the adaptive cruise and blind spot!!!
HeliBar type adjustable handlebars. For taller riders to be able to adjust for comfirt
This is just fake bloggers trying to deny sales of GW BUT IT AINT WORKING
There’s none available in South Florida and 2 in entire state of N Carolina. People aren’t fooled
I have trouble finding the new goldwing to be comfortable enough to spend 18 hours in the saddle as my 2010&2015 models. I've rode both new ones and like the dct but the lack of storage and wind ,rain protection isn't Worth the trade off.
Amen
Does anyone have recommendations on a Dolly to easily move a GW in a garage? I have limited space and a Dolly I could put a GW on it's center stand would be helpful.
Off topic question Cruiseman...does your maintenance video package ('18+) include the '23 model? Same gen...I assume they do.
Hey CM I have a 22 goldwing most annoying it does not come with electronic suspension, I've had to order a 23 goldwing tour plus the conversion kit to convert back to a Bagga style...
Longer travel range between fuel stops. I understand that requires more room for gas or better economy engine..
Being able to get at least 250 miles between fuel stops is a must @ 75-80 mph
Deflectors to direct engine heat towards the driver, or away from, like the old wings used to have
The front of the bike should come with clear plastic bra for protection.
Stereo with better sound definitely a must.
Parking brake on DCT model is a problem, needs a disable switch when brake it's engaged.
Larger saddlebags would be on my list.
When are you coming out with the next installment on how you create and edit your videos?
Still love Goldwing
I think the apple play and/or the ability to mirror an android phone to the tft screen of the goldwing is most desired. This is cos we can get the Google map services mirrored on the screen. Google maps definitely offers the most up to date map services. It is far more efficient and up to date as compared to any Garmin device. Furthermore, Google maps is free and a static map can be preloaded for trips just in case there is no Internet services in some of the places that you might traverse in your trip. The best thing that Honda has made in this function.
I really loved the 2012 through 2017 2010 wasn't bad either
In a Nikkie Asia article (Asian financial times) they said that the Japanese motorcycle manufacturers are discontinuing some models to meet Japan's new emission standards and they put the blame on the R&D and raw material costs and added weight related to upgrading and retrofitting catalytic converters and related software.
To get the features you talked about on the Goldwing I would just buy an R1200RT or K1600, which has most of these features
I would like to see the F6B model back.
Glad you enjoy the videos. Enjoy your '21 and ride safe!
Got CB1000R Neo cafe honda, but one day would love a gold wing (50th Annerversary) 🤞🤞
