Reaction to the video from the owner of a 20+ year old Harley Ultra.... 1. GPS - None, I enjoy getting lost 2. Center Pocket - my windshield bag vibrates making an annoying noise and scuffs the windshield 3. Fit and Finish - actually decent for what it is 4. Horn button - no issue using which is good because to many people are on their phones when they drive 5. Lock notification- lock? what is that? I have a key that I never have with me and a security system that im afraid to use 6. Entry Light Recognition - I ride at night ALOT, the only modification I needed to do was I added a $2 touch light in my tour pack so I can find my gloves. 7. Parking brake - none 8. Seat - Stock seat feels like a lazy boy recliner, doesn't mark up. 9. AM/FM is also terrible, tried a bunch of different combinations, cant get it to work good enough to actually use 10. Settings menu - sometimes I have to reset my clock which is pretty simple 11. TFT dash - I have a collection of analog gauges that all read incorrectly 12. Wireless CarPlay - yeah I dont even use my radio 13. Adaptive Cruise Control- I literally have never wanted adaptive cruise control Great video Cruiseman, No bike is perfect thats a fact.
I totally agree, Robert. The existing protection is almost useless at anything over walking speed. In a low speed drop, you’re looking at a pretty hefty repair bill.
Yes !! 13 times yes... and let me add a 14th. Auto-Brights on the headlight like just about every car does now, oh and 15 volt meter on TFT somewhere. Safe Travels Chris, you'll represent us well !
Well, I agree with pretty much everything you've said but there are WAY MORE things that Honda needs to do if they want a leading Motorcycle (I've had a GL1500 and early GL1800 but now ride a BMW R1250GSA). Start by looking at all the features on the new BMW R1300GS and adapt them to the Goldwing. Along with: - A current version of BlueTooth. - Blind Spot notification for your mirrors. - A 6 Axis MCU. - Using the new MCU, adjust braking and acceleration capability when Leaning. - Automatic load leveling (preload) based upon the "actual" weight not some stupid diagrams. - Automatic suspension adjustment for ride modes (rebound, compression). - BlutTooth Carplay - More HP and Torque to keep up with competition. -A Radio that works and you can get rid of XM. - Full Security System (Proximity sensor, movement alarm). - Increase range to over 200 miles when driven aggressively - Remove max speed limiter. - Change the location of the air filter. - Change the number of oil drain bolts on the DCT model. - New dash - touch screen, more user capability to change the screen. Show max speed, construction zones, traffic etc. And all of the above is just to get the bike up to current bikes, nothing innovative here, so lets add something innovative: - Side and rear view screens on the dash instead of mirrors. - Night vision (see a deer in the dark). - Collision braking / avoidance. - Front and Rear cameras continuously recording with ability to save clips. Oh and seeing as this bike is already priced at the premium level, they can't increase the price by much, they need to stay close to the competition.
Excellent points! My number one complaint on my beloved 21 bagger is the all day job it is to change the air filter. My god it’s a touring bike that is made to put on miles. A simple maintenance necessity shouldn’t be that complex. I’ve owned many Hondas and it’s never been more than a 15 minute job.
@@Mike-me3spI use Cruisemans video that I bought. It’s a good step by step tutorial because it’s so involved you could easily get lost. It took me 10 hours the first time. I got it down to about 7 hours the second time.
It took me ~7.5 hrs. start to finish using the Honda service manual the 1st time with my '21 6 spd tour, but I was being quite meticulous. It's very doable, but is still too cumbersome vs. what you're trying to get accomplished, which is usually a much simpler task with most other motorcycles. 😉
@@gwrider2146 That's mental. Like you say, if you're covering some distance through some dirty dusty places it should be a matter of 5-10 minutes at most to get it out, bang it or brush it clean and get it back in.
I totally agree with you about it all and especially the horn button. It should be size different ad RED in color. Honda should also have the bike make a noise and flash lights when walking away like it does with their cars. The seat sucks very uncomfortable. Honda needs to have a better helmet lock system. HONDA NEEDS TO LISTEN TO IT's Customers and fix the issues.
I have a 2021 dct and agree with you on everything you brought up . I agree about the park brake if the brake is applied and you put the bike in gear it should kill the engine just like the kick stand or have a hand come out of the dash and slap you in the face.
on the horn button, totally agree how small and awkward it was to hit when you needed it, so I got mu son to make me a larger button on his 3d printer and stuck it over the top of the original horn button. Worked absolutely fine.
Chris: I agree with all your points, but would like to add mine: - Why make Android Auto (and I assume Apple CarPlay) dependant on a headset being connected. If the headset gets a flat battery you lose all AA and ACP functionality. And due to infrequent GPS updates, many depend on Google Maps / Apple Navigation. - The emergency start procedure is a nightmare. I'm sure Honda cars don't have this method to start with a flat fob battery. - Helmet storage using the grab handle bracket with the helmet resting on that expensive paint... - That air filter change procedure !!! Need I say more?
Larger side bags, be able to see a digital speed on the TFT screen, and be able to put both tire pressures on the screen at the same time. To only have one at a time was super stupid in my opinion. Granted, if one is low it automatically goes to it along with the warning light. Speaking of warning lights, there is a parking brake set light on the dash, so i dont feel the need for them to have an overide switch on the brake. Now what i wish they would have done, was make the silly thing electric and not be able to disengage it without the accessory or key in the run position. I dont like anyone being able to walk up to it and take the parking brake off. It sticks out when set and to me that just begs someone to grab it and release it. Nice video cruiseman.
Casey - Agree 100% on the parking brake not being some type of electronic switch. I am always thinking that someone is going to come by and disengage the brake.
The one thing I would value most is more control over the DCT. The NT1100 has three different sport modes for example. As it is, the gap between Tour and Sport on the Goldwing is too great
I really like your point about the parking brake on a DCT motorcycle! With all the technology surely there is a way to stop these motorcycles from pulling away. I’m always looking for the red light to make sure I haven’t forgotten to disengage the parking brake.
@@erinbennett3415 I’ve never owned a Goldwing with a DCT transmission. However my NC750X DCT has a red light on the dash whenever the parking brake is on.
I agree with your points. My thoughts fall in line with a couple of yours. I would like to see Apple CarPlay work seamlessly, it is too fickle to get it to engage. I also think the rider should be able to set a personal PIN number for emergency starts. Thank you for posting your videos, I always enjoy them.
Last September while in the Badlands I ran into a couple of guys on Haleys that were lost, their GPS was as worthless as the Honda, we all had a good laugh!
I went through similar issues with my 2010 Wing and after three years it was what made me look at the GTL. I had the GTL for nearly 10 years with no complaints. It had the things I wanted that had taken years for Honda to implement.
1)touch screen dash 2)all in one audio/nav unit in the dash like Harley and not a separate box under the passenger seat 3)garmin nav software 4)larger battery 5)more durable paint 6)easier airfilter maintenance 7)narrower seat 8)customizable infotainment menus 9)larger diameter and higher power speakers 10)keyed fuel tank and cubby access
A couple of things I would like Honda to do, install the Homelink module on the bike, they wouldn't have to install the buttons and could charge for them, but the module is a pain to install, another USB charging port in the trunk for charging your phone, extra helmet etc, passenger armrests, maybe the tailblazer brake light module. Just a couple of low cost add-ons that may be worth the price increase.
I put about 14,000 miles on my 22 Goldwing tour manual and was a good bike for the most part. In September I had the water pump replaced under warranty. The whole front of the bike, suspension and all had to come off. A week later I traded it for a 23 BMW r1250rt. Really happy with that decision. BMW has a lot more options than the Goldwing. Maybe I'll go back to a Goldwing at some point but there will have to be more improvements.
Great things for Honda to consider. Since there are no changes for the 2024 model, I'll have to hold out for 2025 and see what the 50th anniversary model will be. I would surely think that Honda has employees who have jobs to watch social media and see what consumers are commenting on and wanting for future models.
Thanks for the content. I agree with almost all of your items, here are a few tweaks I’d add. It does need a touch screen because of car play. It is a PITA, to scroll through the car play menus with those damn buttons. That isn’t how car play is designed to be used, IMHO. If Indian and Harley can do it, Honda can do it. With all of the infotainment issues you mentioned, just throw it out and start over. The center storage needs some sort of thermal mitigation. Phones overheat and shut down in there pretty easily. When this happens, it sometimes helps to use a wireless dongle and charge in the saddlebag. Add a parking gear to the DCT. I don’t trust that parking brake. Saddlebags are too small. I agree with the fuel capacity complaints others have mentioned. It’s a lot of engine for such a small tank.
Thought I’d share my solution. At pretty much all hobby shops (Hobby Lobby by me) one can buy some cheap stick on silicone button thingy of various shapes and sizes. After sticking one on I am pretty much able to feel the button now. Hope this helps.
I agree with almost every point you made, EXCEPT adaptive cruise control. I my view, that is a worthless feature on a motorcycle, and has the potential to reduce the rider's level of focus on the road and traffic. Others may disagree with me, but I don't want it, and don't want to pay for having it included. I *would* like to have the DCT to be friendlier to slow speed maneuvering.
I totally agree and have no interest in adaptive cruise control or blind spot monitors. Turn your head still works great. I would trade for upgrades in existing technology and removable bags all day long
Re: 13 Things Honda Needs To Fix, I agree completely. As to the AM/FM radio…that’s just a poorly designed piece of electronics. They definitely need to upgrade the hardware. If Honda doesn’t get it together, I’d like to see somebody design an aftermarket console and address all of the issues you’ve raised. It would be an embarrassment for Honda to have another company put them to shame, but it would be awesome! And I’d damn sure buy it. 😂😂😂
My 23 DCT has a parking brake engaged light on the dash. It's on the right side of the dash. Not sure when they added it. But glad they did, it has already saved me from taking off while it's engaged.
Great video. The only thing I disagree with is the center pocket. I like that it is not locked. I agree that the GPS/Nav is woefully inadequate. My 11 year old car has the ability to mark the current location as a favorite. On a Goldwing, it is a convoluted process. Also, I am shocked to learn that Indian has a way to chart your drive online, then download the trip to your bike. Come on, Honda!! Surely you can match Indian!!! Thanks for pointing out the side pocket trim and finish. I thought that I had somehow bent the cover of the side pocket, LOL! Yes, it needs to be better. As to the Emergency Start process, I hope I never have to use it. I plan to just replace my FOB battery every year and hope for the best. Jerry Palladino made a Goldwing review video a couple of years ago and he asked the Honda salesman to demonstrate the emergency start process. IIRC, it took 2 days and 27 tries before the saleman could correctly complete the process.
Motorola M1 helps my hook up to android auto../ apple car play. It's flawless...you shut everything down go in to a bike show for the day , and come out turn on your headset, then your bike and it all comes together..slow but not messing around like factory...it works awesome
I sure hope Honda is listening. Thanks for this. I’ve owned my ‘21 Tour DCT since new, in April of that year. Three of your points resonated with me. The seat is a big one on my list. My wife and I did an 8000 mile ride this summer. I was often standing to give my butt a rest. You would think that a comfortable seat on a luxury touring bike would be a top priority. Older GoldWings had really good seats. Honda dropped the ball years ago in that department. The parking brake is another area that has me shaking my head. Why not have an electronic brake and get rid of that clunky, manual lever? It’s quite vulnerable to vandalism and / or tampering. And yes, I’ve driven off several times without releasing the damn thing. At the very least, your suggestion of a relay to prevent the bike from going into gear if the parking brake is on is great! I can live with just about everything else, but off the top of my head two more things come to mind. I’ve never been able to connect to Apple CarPlay. I’ve given up on that. It should be an easy, reliable connection. My last one is the TFT window. Surely there is a material out there that is at the very least, scratch resistant. The stock one is so fragile and would be a real pain to replace, should need be. Thankfully, I saw one of your videos about how to clean it to avoid scratches. Mine still looks very good, although, scratches are inevitable. Anyway, I didn’t set out to write an essay here. If you’re still with me, thanks for all you do. Keep up the good work. Dwight
Apple CarPlay: i say this not knowing what you have done::: I have a 21 as well. I don't why it has to be this way but, the helmet bluetooth has to be connected to the bike before you plug the USB cable connection from the bike into the phone. I have found it clunky and sometimes have to repeat both connections to get it to work properly, that and it also worked better for me turning bluetooth off on the phone.
@@rickallen848; I should try again, but I’m living just fine without it. My phone syncs with the bike automatically, so I can receive and make phone calls. Same with texts. That’s all I really need. I do see the number of the caller on the screen. So I’m not sure why I’m not seeing my phone screen on the TFT. But it’s really not a big deal for me.
Bigger tank, my R1200 GSA has 400+ mi range, game changer (plus it will eat up dirt roads :D). I think a radio that has difficulty picking up Mark Levin, Glenn Beck and Ben Shapiro is a bonus in my book.
Looking at buying an '18 Wing, never owned one. While I appreciate the 13 items, I don't see anything that's a deal breaker. What I appreciate about this video, it makes me fully aware of the flaws I can point out when I negotiate price. For that, I thank you.
I ride a GL 1200 SEI and it was the pinnacle of technology in its day, everything that came after was just a step backwards. What the 2025 definitely needs is adaptive headlights, DAB+ radio and the other points you mentioned. Greetings from Germany 🇩🇪
My GW 2023 confirms most points Cruiseman criticises on his 2018 model. One point ennoying me is the fuzzy accelerator grip. It had 5 mm of axil play and 4 mm of lateral play when new in April. Now after 12000 km it is even worse. This gas handle mechanics is scrap. On my Vic Cross Country after 125000 km and 10 years it has half the play of the GW new. Others do this better than Honda...
I got rid of my 2018 Goldwing but was considering getting another one. You just reminded me of some of the bikes quirks that drove me nuts. No thanks Honda - there was lots to like but lots to dislike too.
A thousand ditto's on the horn button, and Android Auto also has the issue with the unrequested audio source change to FM. I'd also submit that the headlights, even though they're LED, could be a lot better (brighter). I was able to upgrade my 2016 wing to LED headlights that were probably 2x brighter than the stock LED headlights that came with my 2021 Wing (which as far as I know are not upgradeable). And, I might as well add, that I don't know if it's just my 2021 DCT (because it's the only DCT I've ever ridden), but re-accelerating after decelerating without a full stop (i.e. decelerating down to something between 10 to 30 MPH and then re-accelerating) sure seems a lot jerkier than it ought to be (even after 15K miles and reinitializing the DCT many, many times).
Good summary, CM, I agree with all the things you've said PLUS there are loads of other great ideas in the comments from other folks. One thing i haven't seen mention yet, though, concerns the hill start assist. Why oh why is it only active for 3 seconds? In the UK there are lots of hills and lots of traffic, so most times you stop on a hill you're going to be there for way more than 3 seconds. On my K1600 the hill start assist kept holding until you applied the throttle. I would like to see the GW work like that.
If they make these things, TOMORROW I will preorder one (but we are out of luck for 2024): - Airbag on the bagger DCT - Get rid of analog gauges and put a nice TFT, like new Harley CVOs - Wireless AA and Apple Carplay - Distronic (adaptive cruise control) - Back radar for blind spots - Either get rid of of the small unlocked phone compartiment, or make it bigger, vented or cooled by a Peltier, and lockable Optionally: - I heard they filled some patents, and one of them is sweet: HUD on the windshield. - Also one 12v European DIN socket near the left leg, and one on the tank, would make my life very easy with electrical heated gloves and pants. That's all I'm asking to make it perfect. It is very good right now, but those would make it perfect.
Good points made. main gripes for me are the Sat nav, using old tech needs updated, but not bothered about a touch screen(use a Zumo xt2) also the seat getting marked. i have the air bag dct so no pocket on my tank. Thanks for sharing.
The parking brake issue is the same on the Africa Twin with DCT. I don't know how many times I rode off with the parking brake on and had to immediately stop to unlock it only after doing some damage to the brake pad. What Honda should do but it seems they're too lazy. They should not allow you to start the bike and put it into drive if the parking brake is on. The same safety feature that all motorcycles have when the kickstand is down and you cannot start the engine with the kickstand down. This is a simple safety feature that they completely ignore.
The front needs to be raised, the motor will drag, and you will lose the bottom of the engine . Cost ten thousand dollars and more to replace. More more
Honda should do the same thing Harley-Davidson did way back in 2014 Project Rushmore (they received and analyzed a lot of inputs, feedbacks, suggestions, comments, remarks and complaints from the users and owners of theirs motorcycles in order to improve the design and quality of their products). Greetings from Brazil 🇧🇷😀
If Honda does all you said, I would buy one. I currently will keep riding my 2012 Goldwing and my 2018 k1600 GTL. I want the new goldwing but it has to give me a better reason to buy it..
Since I installed a Ridevision system on my '21, I truly appreciate the need for having blind spot monitoring and collision avoidance stock on all new Goldwings. Best accessory by far that I ever purchased for any of my Motorcycles. The 3 hour digital video video loop created by both the forward and rear facing cameras is also awesome and will be helpful in the event of an accident, or to relive a ride. If an aftermarket company can produce such a system for $600, Honda could do it for much less leveraging the existing systems. I'd love to see adaptive cruise control, an updated version of Bluetooth, and I'd love to see Max at Traxxion Dynamics sell his tip over protection solution to Honda (I'm sure so would he). Lastly, I'd love to be able to adjust throttle response. I ride exclusively in Sport Mode, but would like the throttle to be a bit less twitchy.
Good list of fixes. The horn button fix is needed. Shouldn't have to look for the button when needed. Maybe 2025 is the year to take a nearly perfect bike to the next level.
Hey Cruiseman... Are you satisfied with the Goldwing's saddle bags? The only thing about my buddy's Road Glide that I am jealous of is the fact that his bags open from the top (so the contents don't spill out like they do on a GW) and the fact that they are easily removable.
Great things for Honda to consider. Since there are no changes for the 2024 model, I'll have to hold out for 2025 and see what the 50th anniversary model will be. I would surely think that Honda has employees who have jobs to watch social media and see what consumers are commenting on and wanting for future models. Maybe you'll get a chance to talk to some Honda reps at EICMA and mention these things to update the 2025 GW.
Hate to be negative, but statistically honda isn't going to do anything except change colors and add a badge to the anniversary model, maybe two lol. Honda is smart in that sense as far as retooling..In 84-85 they started on the 88 gl1500, and that ran unchanged for 12 years. The gl1800 ran for 17 years with minimal changes in 2012 to the fairing and side cases. It would be nice if they make some changes, but I would definitely not hold my breath!
I agree with most of your wants, but some will never happen. I have no complaint with the seat. It’s pointless to ask Honda to make a different seat because it’s not going to work for everyone. Forget the seat. There’s other more important items. How about a redo of the throttle mapping to make all modes usable. How about an easily removable top case and side bags? I came to Honda after owning several K1600 BMW’s and easily removable bags and top case are super nice to have especially for unloading at a motel, cleaning the bike or checking tire pressure. The Wing is a pig to check the rear tire air pressure or add air. How about better drop protection? Why not a touch screen? I don’t have long arms and I can reach the screen on my ‘Wing. ACC should have been on this bike years ago as well as a digital speedometer. Honda really falls short in a lot of areas, which is too bad because I like mine. Unfortunately if BMW had a K1600 with DCT I would buy one in a heart beat and trade or sell the ‘Wing.
I never understood the complaints about the NAV system. It's always gotten me where I needed to go. My biggest complaints with the bike is the radio reception, and the ridiculous amount of disassembly required to change the air filter. Another complaint is tire wear. I don't know why the GW is so hard on tires, but I corrected this issue by going double darkside. Also, the stock seat absolutely sucks, but I also corrected that by having the seat redone by Russell Day Long. I also think the speed limiter is set ridiculously low. This bike would easily and safely go much faster...
I subcribe every word, and I have one more suggestion. Why the driving mode is not stored and you have to change it from Tour mode at every start? See you in Milan.
I like most of your suggestions. On the adaptive cruise control... I don't use cruise control when in moderate to heavy traffic. Don't see an advantage to the adaptive cruise. More cost and weight.
Thanks for the awesome review. I am totally agree with you about these basic upgrades on these expensive luxury Honda Goldwing . I hope Honda here these messages, and Fix or upgrades their system
Good video. As you were commenting on the fit and finish, particularly the right side door, I was expecting you to also comment on how easy it is to mar the matt black plastic below the painted surfaces. I can't seem to avoid scratching the matt black, particularly when taking off the side covers. Now I've got lots of tiny scratches that I don't seem to be able to polish out.
All I want is adaptive cruise and much better suspension. Don't use the horn. Good way to start a road rage incident these days. Better to spend that time reacting to the hazard.
I really want to purchase a 24 GW but the sum of these 13 parts plus a few other ( tip over protection and removable bags ) really are making me pause. You do say you still love the bike and it’s phenomenal etc. BUT if you didn’t own one already, would you jump in on the 24 model ?
Chris. Great overview as usual. Suggestion. Test an Africa Twin for comparison of user features that could and shouts be incorporated into the Goldwing. Especially the TFT the features on this new bike , are in my opinion exactly what are needed on the Goldwing, and as I recall are among the suggested additions you outline for GW. It's almost mind numming that HONDA, the world maker of the most sophisticated automates in the world can't integrate their vehicle features, I.e., GPS, adaptive cruise control, fob and locking features, chirp locking and unlocking feature, flashing lights locator, emergence button and perhaps an anti theft alarm into their flagship touring bike. The Africa Twin right now is as good an option for long distance touring as the Goldwing, and has duel sport capabilities. Check out the TH-cam reviews on these features. Sad that between the Africa Twin features and the their car features we can't integrate these-needed improvements on the Goldwing that for which we pay slightly more or less than a Civic or Accord. But I digress. 😖 simple in my option they don't listen or care about this product or business segment.
I certainly appreciate the features that the Africa Twin brings but people are NOT cross shopping them for the same mission. Totally different bikes. Agree that Honda could/should easily incorporate ADC and Blind Spot monitoring to the GW. Honda has repeatedly been lazy and arrogant on GW upgrades.
That was my point yes two different bikes for different and similar usage. And the minimal suspension in the Goldwing versus the adjustable shocks on the duel sport might improve performance as consistently sold and pointed out by Traxxion Dynamics. And yes to modify the failed updates talked about by Both Chris' for years SHOULD be an easy tech transfer to the Goldwing using those resources from the car and African Twin development teams. And since the have ignored these please since 2018 I rest my case the don't literally give a crap. Every vehicle I have purchased knew I was surveyed to death on customer satisfaction. Every car dealer service manager beg one to please give all 10 when they send you a survey. I have never been asked or been asked or sent by any Powersports dealer or Honda corporate since 1998 , not one time a customer satisfaction survey or questionnaire about my Honda motorcycle experience. I literally have not seen one Honda owner on any GW site talk at right about them personally calling the Honda customer service line relating these reported improvement suggestion. Tge concerns, complaints and dissatisfactions always end with the statement " I hope Honda Reads or watch's the vlog it the written rant. Perhaps a Goldwing Matters" social justice movement flooding Honda customer services in mass wth thousands of telephonic and written complaints until we get an acknowledgment of our being ignored. Also those, including myself who may have privately complained or suggested change have as I recall have all said they have never had a thank for your concerns follow up either. So I rest my case. As usual evident in today's environment they who rally and scream the loudest seem to snatch the golden ring. Otherwise let's just stop repeating every release of no changes again this year hoping no one cares what the owner have to say - it been so obvious how their silence speaks volumes as to what we think or suggest. But I digress further. Yep pissed. But I do love my 19 and at 77 I on my last opportunity to bitch. ☘️🙂😝🇺🇸
I have a Honda Accord with Adaptive Cruise Control, and I really wanted to love that feature, but it was so bad in actual use that I gave up and found in the manual how to disable it. Even at the shortest following distance setting, other cars would pass and cut in front of me, causing the car to slow down more, which would then cause the next person behind to pass, and so forth, until my car was going so slow that I became the traffic problem. So I guess I'm one of the few who isn't interested in it on my Gold Wing. And don't get me started on Hill Start Assist...
My Indian Roadmaster has a 4 digit code to enter when the key fob is lost, broken, or just doesn’t work. Super easy to do. Also the UI is able to be setup to offer you the information that you want to see. They have 3 screens that are customizable, that operate at the touch of a button, to display the different information you want to see. Honda is the leader in touring motorcycles. They need to lead and stop following other manufacturers with outdated technology. I also keep my extra FOB in the left saddlebag, with the FOB turned off. Then if the other one quits, breaks or gets lost, I open the left saddlebag, get the FOB, turn it on, and away we go.
And that stupid emergency brake, I have a Can Am Spyder that at the press of a button, it’s set. It has warning lights and beepers, but you can’t move it till it’s released. And that also is the press of a button.
The main two reason I decided to sell my 2018 Goldwing was suspension and engine performance and for me those are the two key items for Honda to address. Suspension is way too under dimensioned for the bike and the engine performance on highway speeds feels sluggish. After test riding the 2024 K1600GTL the engine and suspension performance was a much better fit for how I want the motorcycle to perform. I do miss Apple CarPlay and the DCT. I’d also add that Hi as should consider wireless Apple CarPlay for the next version and also eliminate the need to have headset paired and on for CarPlay to work.
Fuel capacity needs to be increased. A touring bike should have range of at least 300 miles. A few little changes with this bike and the Godwing could again become the best touring bike and cut into Harley, Indian and BMW sells. Longer range, adaptive cruise control, up to date electronics/gps, alarm for parking brake, comfortable lasting seat, please.
TPMS should give you its readings without having to first drive the bike. Don’t know about everyone else, but I like to know what my tire pressure is BEFORE I take off.
I miss the remote controlled trunk pop. My 03 had it I was shocked when I got my 2018 & it did not. I find myself often missing that. It’s got the fob how they couldn’t have incorporated that I don’t know. Hopefully they’ll bring it back.
The only adds I’d have would be including the XM antenna as part of the base build as the radio is already there (maybe a good spot for an updated AM/FM antenna too, oh and a built in mic for those that want CarPlay without a headset or fooling the bike to make it work.
Cruiseman I don't think you've done a video on how to buff out the windshield to get rid of all those micro scratches that affect visibility eapecially at night when the glare of headlights hit it makes it very hard to distinguish detail and becomes very dangerous, hope you can do on and recomend a technique and product. Thank's Javi G.
Javi G. - The best way to get rid of all those nasty micro scratches is to bite the bullet and buy the F4 Customs windshield. Hands down the best for your buck. And you will (or should) not get any micro scratches.
Hey Cruiseman, Love your videos... I have a 2021 DCT Tour and the Glove Box Latch works perfectly on mine. I can presss middle or right side and it opens right up... now I cannot press on the left side and have it open but middle works fine. Agree with the lock which should work with the dongle key. Totally argree with you on the Parking Brake, it is so easy to drive away with it on. Traxxion Dynamics offers a fix for the Parking Brake which I added. For my butt the Seat is way too hard and I can only last about an hour before I start to notice aches and pains. By 3 hours I am pretty sore and even getting off to rest won't help, the pain returns shortly after jumping back in the saddle. I plan to make a trip down to Ultimate Seats in Daytona, but this is an expensive upgrade and with how much this bike costs I feel it should come with a good saddle. I also have a small tear in the seat at the stich line which occured after only 5k. IMO and it's just my opinion, the Apple CarPlay is horrible. Why I have to have a headset attached is nuts. It should also be wireless. I like Waze for highway trips and rarely if ever use a headset. I have tried purchasing external BlueTooth Receivers and nothing has worked. The headset icon does appear at the top of the screen, so the system does "think" there is a headset there and once for a short second, Apple CarPlay did come up, but then went away. So not sure what Honda considers a "Headset". I have both Schuberth and a Shoei helmets and just hate having to have these charged and ready to go in order to use my Apple CarPlay... The sound should just go through my stereo on the Bike. Also when connected it just drops randomly so it is not reliable. I cannot use the phone feature at high speeds as no one can understand what I am saying so this is useless too. I just want the Nav to come out of my speaks while using REVER or Wazes. I think this is my biggest issue with the Goldwing. Top 2 are definately the Seat and the Cell Phone Connectivity be it Android or Apple. Thanks Again.
I am very late to viewing this list due to trans-continental ride, however: I completely agree the audio reception distance is terrible. I like to tune to a traffic station as I approach the city and, by the time the static has cleared, its too late to change my route. The emergency start should be a phone app (maybe the entire fob could be phone app?) . If that is too difficult, have an emergency setting using the start button (press 3 times?) and the TFT asks for a 4 digit code to be input using one of the knobs or buttons. I would like to see lights in the saddlebags. I do not want a lock on the centre pocket. I know its not locked and thats good because I store my Fob spare battery there. Every time I think of replacing the air filter I cringe. Since my first BSA in 1969 I have DIY. This air filter has me taking the bike to the dealership. DIY maintenance should take about an hour per service. In fact for 45 years (1978 GL1000) I have rigorously followed Hondas recommended service schedule but the air filter has caused me to reconsider.
Only thing honda really really really like Really needs to be addressed is the way the air filter replacement is made. . The GPS on the gw is pure sad. The Indian one that I first had seen on the challenger was fantastic. - the horn button should have a notch on it and be red possibly. -the tps screen should show both front and rear tires status . On the same note the navigation for the info system needs to be made simpler . - parking brake needs to be updated to the one like from electrical connection style. -trunk needs lighting on it to help avoid rear end collisions. -saddle bags need a secure locking mechanism. Recently I locked mine was putting my bike in my shed and for some apparent reason my right-side bag opened on its own and I ended up scratching my saddle bag 😠.this has happened 3 times so far. -The cubby area that holds the phone needs to be updated , the phone in that area with the foam holder makes the phone at times over heat, honda needs to make a manual vent system in there -the gas cap latch needs to be addressed as well. As at times it won't open and if you fob dies even worse.
Yes agree that the Goldwing is falling behind it's competition. They certainly put effort into their smaller bikes - maybe that is where they see profit. Is the Goldwing going to continue at all - maybe it is being allowed to slowly die.
Asking MC companies to address GPS is a losing battle. Provide an interface and allow the customer an EASY way to bring their own. Same with seats, losing battle, every person likes something different. The two biggest misses by Honda are clearly adaptive cruise and blind spot. Honda either fixes these two HUGE gaps next model year or pay the price in shrinking market share. Throw in Analog gauges as a big miss - go full TFT.
I have complete and total confidence that Honda will have all these issues addressed in our next gen Wing - Until then enjoy the New Africa Twin (It's what all the old GL1800 riders have switched too) or the NT1100 or the Hornet 1000 - they'll eventually get around to the Goldwing -lol
Along with all the things Cruiseman mentions, first thing I noticed when I got my 2022, was that I was not a comfortable ride. I expected the top-of-the-line bike for comfort would be very comfortable. Not! The seat, the handlebars, the foot rests, all had to be replaced at quite an expense to make to bike ridable over long distances. Once that was done, it was a much better bike, but I should not have had to do it, Honda should. Then there is the infotainment/nav system. It is total junk. Toss it completely and star over. Oh, ya. And get a dang volt meter!
I say this as the owner of multiple Honda cars, mother Honda doesn't update crap. My 2019 CR-V and 2016 Accord have adaptive cruise control and it shows what speed it is set at. What is needed, and would be a simple SW update, is for that set speed display number to blink and a chime sound when you're following a car and it's going slower than the set speed. Mondern cars cruise so smoothly that you can't tell that you've slowed from 75 to 65 by feel. I can't tell you how many times I've been following someone for miles using adaptive CC and the car slowed down without me noticing. Honda, like pretty much all vehicle manf.'s, seems to be a one and done deal and beside for map updates they have 0% interest in improving the vehicle once it is off the sales lot. I, and I'm sure many others, would even be happy to pay a small amount to have upgrades, but again, the makers just don't care. BTW, Honda's car electronic tech is just as far behind other car makers as their motorcycle tech is. Love your videos and plan on doing many upgrades on my 2010 HPNA.
It needs a bigger gas tank up too a 6 or 6.5 gallon tank
Reaction to the video from the owner of a 20+ year old Harley Ultra....
1. GPS - None, I enjoy getting lost
2. Center Pocket - my windshield bag vibrates making an annoying noise and scuffs the windshield
3. Fit and Finish - actually decent for what it is
4. Horn button - no issue using which is good because to many people are on their phones when they drive
5. Lock notification- lock? what is that? I have a key that I never have with me and a security system that im afraid to use
6. Entry Light Recognition - I ride at night ALOT, the only modification I needed to do was I added a $2 touch light in my tour pack so I can find my gloves.
7. Parking brake - none
8. Seat - Stock seat feels like a lazy boy recliner, doesn't mark up.
9. AM/FM is also terrible, tried a bunch of different combinations, cant get it to work good enough to actually use
10. Settings menu - sometimes I have to reset my clock which is pretty simple
11. TFT dash - I have a collection of analog gauges that all read incorrectly
12. Wireless CarPlay - yeah I dont even use my radio
13. Adaptive Cruise Control- I literally have never wanted adaptive cruise control
Great video Cruiseman, No bike is perfect thats a fact.
I enjoyed this a lot especially the getting lost part.
Another significant addition would be improved tipover protection.
Along with:
- A current version of BlueTooth.
- BlutTooth Carplay
- More HP and Torque to keep up with competition.
-A Radio that works and you can get rid of XM.
- Full Security System (Proximity sensor, movement alarm).
- Increase range to over 200 miles when driven aggressively
- Remove max speed limiter.
- Change the location of the air filter.
- Change the number of oil drain bolts on the DCT model.
- New dash - touch screen, more user capability to change the screen. Show max speed, construction zones, traffic etc.
And all of the above is just to get the bike up to current bikes, nothing innovative here, so lets add something innovative:
- Side and rear view screens on the dash instead of mirrors.
😃 5gen.cruisemansgarage.com 🙃
How long does it actually take on this?
Nice idea! Could you kindly share the model?
You forgot to add, they need a better plastic that doesn’t scratch for the display.
So for the horn button I put a clear round cabinet door bumper on mine.. 👍👍
Chris: I agree with all your points, but would like to add mine:
- Why make Android Auto (and I assume Apple CarPlay) dependant on a headset being connected.
Another great video. I would add a couple of things as well. 1. Bigger tank, 2. Easier access to air cleaner.
Hopefully, Honda will listen
Nailed it
The one thing I would value most is more control over the DCT.
Is there a "BRAKE" light on the dash to let you know it's engaged?
@@erinbennett3415 I’ve never owned a Goldwing with a DCT transmission. However my NC750X DCT has a red light on the dash whenever the parking brake is on.
I agree with your points. My thoughts fall in line with a couple of yours. I would like to see Apple CarPlay work seamlessly, it is too fickle to get it to engage. I also think the rider should be able to set a personal PIN number for emergency starts. Thank you for posting your videos, I always enjoy them.
It works seamlessly all the time. You are doing something wrong.
Last September while in the Badlands I ran into a couple of guys on Haleys that were lost, their GPS was as worthless as the Honda, we all had a good laugh!
Yeah, my AA Google Maps also put me on a strange path in that area of SD this last fall, too😅
Adaptive cruise control would be fantastic and if other brands have it the Honda goldwing should also
I went through similar issues with my 2010 Wing and after three years it was what made me look at the GTL. I had the GTL for nearly 10 years with no complaints. It had the things I wanted that had taken years for Honda to implement.
My added item is to fix the gas tank access. Why not use a push lid when the fob is present and have it lock when it not?
Good idea. My Lexus has they type.
1) IMU assisted ABS, 2) updated TFT, 3) user adjustable suspension.
Still the best bike I’ve owned.
Was the pump leaking or was it making a noise?
Great things for Honda to consider. Since there are no changes for the 2024 model, I'll have to hold out for 2025 and see what the 50th anniversary model will be. I would surely think that Honda has employees who have jobs to watch social media and see what consumers are commenting on and wanting for future models.
He stated it is the best motorcycle he has ever ridden. And you are holding out….
Totally agree on the horn button. I often have to look for it -- wonderful ...
Thought I’d share my solution. At pretty much all hobby shops (Hobby Lobby by me) one can buy some cheap stick on silicone button thingy of various shapes and sizes. After sticking one on I am pretty much able to feel the button now. Hope this helps.
Thanks. I'll give it a try. Nothing like searching for the horn button when someone is pushing you out of your lane at 60 mph.
I *would* like to have the DCT to be friendlier to slow speed maneuvering.
yeah, I hate the adaptive cruise in my car most of the time, I definitely do NOT want it on a bike.
I totally agree and have no interest in adaptive cruise control or blind spot monitors. Turn your head still works great. I would trade for upgrades in existing technology and removable bags all day long
You are awesome…. Very good points…. Honda should be paying you for your advice..take care..
It is present in 2019 model too.
Larger side bags; adaptive cruise control; tpms; auto preload on all models. Larger gas tank, less buttons to allow for a better horn
GEAR INDICATOR ?????
@@treadheadMy 18 has a gear indicator.
My -19 dct have also. Maybe its not connected, my saddle cable harness was not connected the first time i removed the sadle !!
@@treadhead Mine has a gear indicator.
2014 goldwing had a great Kuryacan coffee cup holder in the tank and a foot warmer on/off lever.Miss both of these on my 2018
Great video.
Great suggestions! I enjoy your posts.
Motorola M1 helps my hook up to android auto../ apple car play.
It's flawless...you shut everything down go in to a bike show for the day , and come out turn on your headset, then your bike and it all comes together..slow but not messing around like factory...it works awesome
Once again you have convinced me to keep my 2008.
Nice! All very good and I'd add.....14. Blind spot warning
There are no deal breakers for me either. I would buy another Goldwing in an instant.
Nice review, Cruiseman. Thanks. The gas tank access remains cumbersome. The push lid suggestion would be marvelous.
In other words Honda didnt build it EXACTLY the way YOU wanted it built. Do you need some cheese with your
Quick shifter on 6spd manual!
It needs an engine guard plate so you don't ruin your engine taking a bad speed bump too fast.
Traxxion
@@cruisemansgarage 3rd party ones... sure, anything can be fixed if you want to change it yourself, but Honda should have this by default.
GREETINGS FROM THE PPRC GREAT VIDEO THANKS FOR DOING IT FOR US. 🇺🇸
I totally agree with every one of the items you brought up for the Goldwing to be competitive with other manufacturers.
Very good evaluation of the things Honda needs to do to improve the Goldwing! I wish they would listen to you!
If they make these things, TOMORROW I will preorder one (but we are out of luck for 2024):
- Airbag on the bagger DCT
- Get rid of analog gauges and put a nice TFT, like new Harley CVOs
- Wireless AA and Apple Carplay
- Distronic (adaptive cruise control)
- Back radar for blind spots
- Either get rid of of the small unlocked phone compartiment, or make it bigger, vented or cooled by a Peltier, and lockable
Optionally:
- I heard they filled some patents, and one of them is sweet: HUD on the windshield.
Yeah, I use small storage bags and saddlebag luggage for that reason.
Pre 2018 wings are perfect for touring..modern tech on these bikes would be a winner…I wanna ride my bike not programme it 👍 good vid CM 👍
👍 Yes, I would be right behind you in line for the K1600 with DCT! 🙂
They new to add more colors. And color combo's
While adding adaptive cruise control, how about lane changing warning indicators in the mirrors?
I have heard from a friend, that CarPlay on the AT is not as "elegant" as on the Goldwing.
Good point, for me, I don't follow anybody LOL
The perfect motorcycle, whatever the class of motorcycle, does not and never will exist.
Makes more sense
@cruisemansgarage, I’d love to see a review of the BMW r18 transcontinental
Thank's for the tip amigo.@@prestonsadventures12

The Motorola m1 works great for me
Thanks for the video. I'm curious though if the GW has backlighting for the switches?
BRING BACK THE CB RADIO!
A fantastic bike but yes, I agree with a lot of what Cruiseman says here. A digital speedometer would be helpful...
Well we're almost at the end the world
Star venture ed gold wing which is better compare
I am very late to viewing this list due to trans-continental ride, however:
I completely agree the audio reception distance is terrible.
Great tip with a spare fob battery in that pocket. I’m doing that when I get home. Thanks.
-The cubby area that holds the phone needs to be updated , the phone in that area with the foam holder makes the phone at times over heat, honda needs to make a manual vent system in there
-the gas cap latch needs to be addressed as well.
Indian has a nice one and some say the new Harley setup is nice.
@@cruisemansgarage - I need to check out an Indian.
I agreed with the horn button, Honda made it too small
