Id rather be rich and depressed than poor and depressed
No. You would rather be healed from depression regardless. What you saying is i would rather have diabetes and be rich then have diabetes and be poor. Wrong- you want to know have diabetes in the 1st place.
@@adrianocosta6760 Meh, money is still nice.
@@Tecolote41 i agree, i like money a lot! What that has to do with sickness?
This comment is on every video 💤
I'm depressed cause I am not super rich.
pathetic individual. "i am depressed because i am not super rich". you will never be, especially with that attitude.
Money can't buy happiness, but it can sure stave off misery!
Money doesn't buy happiness, but it's easier to cry on a Mercedes than a bicycle.
As Burt Reynolds said " I've been depressed when I was broke, I've been depressed when I was rich. Depressed and rich is better"
I love my Mercedes.
On a Mercedes? On?
You mean you would rather cry in a Porsche than a Punto
its easier to cry on a bicycle than it is in a mercedes any day
What I've learned as a) someone who has depression and whose mom has severe depression and b) someone who's grown up pretty much poor my whole life (key were relative poverty) I've learned that it's all about treating your mental illness (whether its medication, psychotherapy, both, neither, exercise, purpose). Beyond that, you have to focus more on what you have than what you don't. I've served rich people coffee and I've learned that beyond the facade is still wanting more and focusing on what's next or what they could be doing and not so much on all that they've done. I left that job and work at a school. My coworkers are great, and we're thankful for what we have.
I think it's important to have a job you enjoy so I agree with you on that Joe.
I grew up poor than attained money thru years of hard work and was still depressed. Money buys comfort and piece of mind. Depression needs to be healed thru the spirit but most people take meds to numb the pain and give their power to heal to a Doctor to do it for them instead of working on themselves. So no matter how much money you have and all the meds in the world and doctors wont help. Its your job to look at your inner self and change the things that make you unhappy and not a doctor, medicine, big home or luxury car can do that for you
Whoever says money doesn’t buy happiness, just didn’t make enough
True
Some people simply need their brain balanced with medicine. Don't discredit them.
The happiest i ever was, was when i was in college working towards my degree and working part time to pay for it. Then i graduated with good grades and got a cushy job and i just felt empty
Those college parties help too 😂
Think a lot of it is you felt like you had purpose now you just save to retire.
tell more
Joe should invite a working class guy that has 2 or 3 jobs to explain how working people are fucked
Sounds like his schedule is already booked
you forget... maybe needs to be reminded@@delphi-moochymaker62
@@delphi-moochymaker62while I agree that they both didn't start with $$$, I feel they both have the same viewpoint as Obama. They tend to forget from whence they come because they've got "everything" now. Forget that nasty past.
"Money doesnt make yoh happy but it does ensure you can be miserable in comfort" - Ronnie Corbett
Wife and I make $175k. Not anywhere near Rogan or Mahr money. But, we live in Cincy - $400k buys a 5 bedroom house, we have everything we want and need. And no, we don’t fly first class or private jets.
“Most people are as happy as they make up their minds to be.” -Abraham Lincoln
Reality is, once your basic needs and some of your wants are met, you’re not gonna be that depressed. Beyond the first $100-200k, money building happiness *has diminishing returns*.
I'm depressed my super rich friends pretend they don't know me
Because from the moment they can afford everything material, they realize that they are still not sustainably emotionally fulfilled. This often late realization can lead them to fall into a real slump.
Makes sense most definitely
Still not enough to start the violins. Least the has stability in their lives.
Poor thing
@@miamitten1123I def see where you're coming from cause there have been so many times in life where a dollar amount count have literally solved all my problems. But if you fulfill all the dollar amounts and you have to same amount of problems it sucks almost as much
Luke 12:15 And He said to them, “Watch out! Guard yourselves against every form of greed, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.”
the videos is under 8 mins tho i can’t find that time stamp and who’s luke ??
@@JayRillaNYC It's a Bible verse. Book of Luke chapter 12 verse 15
(Jesus said). "Indeed Allah is my Lord and your Lord, so serve Him alone. This is the Straight path.” Quran 19:36
[Mathew 4:10] Jesus said “Worship the Lord *Your God* and *My God* and serve *HIM Only* “
@harambey You added Allah in there. But as for Jesus saying His God. The Father is His God. No one is above Yehovah. I don't fall for this trinity nonsense. I know there's only one God and Jesus is Messiah and also called a god because in Hebrew. God is translated from the word Elohim. Which means ruler, master, spiritual being.
Allah is not the God of the Bible. Islam was created by Catholicism. Which is why Mohammed was married to Khadijah, a very wealthy Catholic nun who financed everything he did. And since Mohammed couldn't read or write. Her cousin is also Roman Catholic. Wrote down what he said he received.
Matthew was written far before Islam ever came around, so to think Jesus took anything from them is ridiculous and not historically accurate.
Catholicism operates Islam behind the scenes and uses them to persecute true believers and further the cause. Catholicism isn't Christian. They are the same old Babylonian religion hiding in Christian garments to make people think they are. Which either deceives the members or getting people to reject God, thinking God has anything to do with them. It's a win-win for evil.
You may not believe me, but one day, everyone will know the truth.
Revelation 14:12 is the key. Remember I tried to tell you. Much love.
If you want a deep dive into Catholicism and Islam connection. TH-cam

@@RJ-bw6uq You clearly don't know much about either of them.
They've never been tested.
Losing everything, teaches you so much.
Being hungry, teaches you so much. ❤
Most ppl who become rich are literally tested all the time lol. Most thrive to be successful which means overcoming obstacles, having a work ethic, and being persistent
Yeah, teaches you that being hungry and losing everything SUCKS....And sometimes you need an intolerable situation to make you break out of that situation....The worse enemy of change is complacency.....'good enough' kills a lot of desire.
Bill is right, There's a reason for feeling depression... I feel like just blaming the individual is a lazy way out and medical science 10/10 blames us, and not the environment. For two reasons: to sell you a pill, and lobbyists.
I'm never depressed anymore but My Apartment place has been stresssing me out a bit lately.
Joe saying you act like i should know this like its thw president or something was so hilarious to me. So many people have their heads stuck up hollywoods ass its refreshing to see him basically say "uh yeah im not in the loop paying attention to this dumb shit" 😂😂

@jslice6964give your money away then. You’re not forced to keep it
Sure, a whole crowd has gathered at a place and paid money to see you, but they're not actually there to see YOU. They're there to see your performative persona. They want to see you do your song and dance. None of them are your friends. None of them understand you and want what's best for your well-being.
I think that can be said for any profession or art
“I’m never alone, I’m alone all the time…” Bush, Glycerine
When a celebrity realizes that most people don't give a fuck about their personal lives
This video was cut out at the wrong time
I think there's a difference between happiness and satisfaction. Money doesn't make you happy it just makes you satisfied for awhile until you run out of it.
Bingo! Also, rich people can be psychotically driven for more, more, more because enough isn't part of the equation = Rogan and Maher fit that profile = power/corruption/narcissim
Yeah but such a rich person point of veiw lol
It's like anything else. We're accustomed to having it. When you run out of the things that bring you pleasure, you get cranky.
Eventually the brain gets used to getting everything you ever want. It goes dull then.
The 9-5 people are gonna cringe at this convo
No one in the clip talking about the 'stings attached' that stress out even wealthy people. People see the car or the house. They don't see the mortgage. People 'sell out' to record labels.. they have to fulfill contracts, and do what their told.
Again, I think people are only seeing one side.
Bill is right though. It could also be due to comparisons, everyone is frickin rich on social media and only ones who are, are the vocal minority, even reddit and youtube. Massive survivorship bias. While you yourself for some reason didn't survive when in actuality you are doing good.
*they're told.
Can I have 15 seasons of Bill Mahr and Joe Rogan!
Getting to a good spot financially will definitely improve your happiness, but only to point, and I don’t a lot of people realize that. A lot of people have this idea that making more and more money will make them happier, and when it doesn’t, they think “well I then I guess I still haven’t made enough” never realizing that maybe something else is preventing them from being happy. It’s similar to getting in shape. Working out and getting in shape can improve your happiness, but some guys get in their head about it “if I put on more muscle, then I’ll be happy with my body” but they are never satisfied no matter how much muscle they build
Well on the stage one is ON TOP OF THE WORLD! And once the lights dim so does the joy dim and it often just keeps on dimming.
"Whoever says money can't buy happiness, doesn't know where to shop" Trump 😆
He's right.
I’ve always wonder too. Happy to hear these guys take on it

Bridget Fonda is unrecognizable now, she couldn’t come back if she wanted to. That’s a bad example because she married a talented wealthy dude, she has no motivation to work whatsoever.

There is never enough. Turn back now or you will all learn the hard way.
Depression largely is a physical problem in your brain mainly caused by chronic stress. Money has lil to do with it. Not a character flaw. Our society as a whole still doesnt understand Depression unfortunately
Id like to experience it for research
Long live Rogan 😊
Situational depression is so much different from clinical depression. Bill Maher came out of Cornell from a well-off family and, what? Had to pay his dues for a while and wasn't immediately getting the girls he thought he deserved?
Much like John Mulaney and Nick Kroll - they got into excellent schools and come from powerful, wealthy families. There is never really a true danger to them of ending up on the streets.
Mulaney radiates depression, Maher just radiates a specific type of entitled anger that never really goes away, no matter how much money.
Rich people might get depressed because there are a lot of people trying to rob them.
It's all about acclimation. I grew up... not well off. I spent many years working minimum wages jobs. If I could pay rent, go out with my friends once a month, and buy one videogame every few months, I was happy.
I finally graduated college with a bachelors in business...but continued working minimum wage jobs for the next several years. I became depressed because I felt that I should be able to get a better job and make more money.
Then, by some miracle, I was able to land a good job making decent money. I was back to being not just happy, but incredibly happy! I had enough money to move into a nicer apartment, get a nicer car, and go out several times a week, as well as buy videogames whenever I wanted. Things were perfect.
But I eventually lost my job and went right back to struggling, except this time, I couldn't even get a job. I was too overqualified for minimum wage jobs, and never got replies from decent jobs.
My money ran out, I lost my apartment, had to move back home, lost my car, and lost all of my nice things. I'm now more depressed than ever.
Why? Because, when you have nothing and expect nothing, you're happy. When you have nothing but expect something, you're depressed. When you expect something and have something, you're happy. But when you go from having something to having nothing...that's true depression.
I've never thought about or aimed for happiness. And sometimes I'm surprised I'm happy.
Haha never thought about streep
Money doesn't fulfill. It can temporarily distract you, but it can't satisfy the soul. Only love can satisfy the soul. What is love? Willing the good of the other with no benefit to yourself. If you send your time loving others (willing their good), you'll be happy. You'll be at peace. If you spend your time constantly thinking of yourself and ignoring others, you'll be miserable. That's not to say that self-love isn't important (it's vital and necessary), but part of self-love is loving yourself enough to want to love others. It goes hand-in-hand.
That's not just show business but I think how everyone looks at life. They thought they were going to "make it"(to whatever extent for them that is) but most people don't in reality and turn very bitter about it.
Yep. That's why people get so invested in political issues. Cos we live ostensibly in a democracy people think they have a say in these issues so they cling to it cos they want to feel important in some way. Most people are unimportant, when you realise the world doesn't revolve around you it's painful
Gotta keep on achieving and reinventing your goals all the time. It's the process and the journey of being lost in. Money is cool too.
Anne Heche also played straight roles
yea she drove straight into a house.
They pretty much stopped when she came out
Saying that gay guys haven’t acted in straight roles in Hollywood is like saying, “that guy isn’t gay, he’s got a wife and kids”. Yeah buddy, it’s all a show
No kidding. I'm sure John Travolta is as straight as a wet noodle. Kevin Spacey was a leading man for years before coming out.
This is by far one of the easiest questions to answer in the world it's very very simple they are bored that's the problem when you reach the top of the mountain there's no where else to go and once the excitement wears off it gets really boring really fast. That's why so many celebrities have been busted doing strange things because the things that used to Excite them don't Excite them anymore so they have to amp it up so they can feel excitement again.
Diseases of despair effect working class people more than the upper class. Depression is an entirely different thing. Despair usually causes depression
Joe's forgetting about Neil Patrick Harris in Gone Girl...
I’ve hung around rich people in Beverly Hills and hung out with people who lived in shacks in Jamaica . All those rich kids back in the 80’s were all drug attics and a lot committed suicide . Guys in Jamaica were all happy
Money grants you freedom
Money gives the freedom to not have to demean yourself doing shit you don't like for people you hate. That's huge.
How many friends from the mid west with drinking problems and a religious family does joe know?
The Smurfs movies Joe!!
Why do rich people in the USA get depressed
Because they find out they don't feel any different with all that money. Life is about pursuing something you enjoy doing that gives you that sense of fulfillment from day to day.
Neil Patrick Harris always plays a straight guy...
I think its how you look at things
Depression happens when you are lying to yourself in order to maintain your values. I see it all the time. People are so scared of being immoral or being a "bad person" that they live life completely wrong. You should follow your caveman instincts when choosing a job, women, friends, lifestyle etc. So many people settle and get married when they really should just sleep around and live in the present moment like a caveman.
The thing is that you have to look forward to tomorrow. You have to do stuff that makes you giggle at the thought of accomplishing it.
Aspiring to be a good person will kill your soul, because you are sacrificing yourself and betraying yourself.
No. I don’t agree
The way we interpret life and our experiences is how we feel about life.
Like Anthony bourdain - he has such an interesting life and was still depressed :(

There’s no point to any of it.
The happy moment is getting to the Top of the Mountain. Once you are on top, the Happy moment disappears and now you need another challenge, hence the depression.
Pretty much. We're simple creatures, we've evolved by overcoming all sorts of insane challenges throughout history. We're simply not programmed to sit still. Unfortunately in the modern world it can difficult to find challenges that resonate with our nature. We've done everything in our power to take the difficulty out of life, hence Netflix and uber eats. Both nobody can achieve true happiness by living this easy consumerist life
If you’re rich and depressed, you’ve either never been poor or you’ve been rich for so long you forgot what it was like to be poor.
100%
or you're wasting your life already well set financially trying to get more and more toys you'll never have time to play with at a job you hate.
Or you know an actual human being.
Takes a lot more to appreciate your life than just having money. One requires purpose, meaning and self-respect. Money (and the pursuit of) can give you those things for a time, but eventually one requires something deeper out of life. Most people who don't have money and then get money, usually the goal is to just keep acquiring more.
For most people don't dig deeper into the soul, they just attempt to amass greater wealth/power. And that in a nutshell is our whole societal issue today - glorification of the commoditization of power (which is money) rather than the pursuit of meaning and personal strength. Money and things have a very limited capacity to make you happy, self-respect and self-love can't be bought and are vital to the spirit.
@@chamberscmtit's more than money. Money buys the one thing you can't get back. Time. If more people had more time, they'd have more time to focus on themselves and be happier. Instead we have to make rich people richer.
Why does anybody get depressed? Money is no guarantor against deperession.
Money is fake, it's meaningless.

But it buys you the freedom to go find it
2 millionaires talking depression. Depressing 😅
It's simple. A lot are missing a spiritual connection to fill the void inside.
Money doesn't bring u happiness, BUT IT HELPS!!!!
Having a big house or car is an illusion. What matter is how you feel about yourself inside and are you living for your fun. I’m not talking about physically but mentally.
Some individuals are not motivated by the desire for opulent mansions and flashy cars; instead, they aim to secure their finances amidst global economic inflation. For them, reaching a multimillion-dollar net worth without the weight of mortgages or other financial obligations is the ultimate aspiration, symbolizing contentment and relief from financial worries.

Most people are in pursuit of economic freedom, rather than a luxurious lifestyle.
Until you have God in your Heart and Soul,,your cup will always feel empty.. Believe me, I know!!!!!! You’re always going to be CHASING something…

They are selfish people and they wonder why they are depressed
I think exercise can help in this regard. Rich people can also start charities to help poor people. They can also try polygamy.
