What I've learned as a) someone who has depression and whose mom has severe depression and b) someone who's grown up pretty much poor my whole life (key were relative poverty) I've learned that it's all about treating your mental illness (whether its medication, psychotherapy, both, neither, exercise, purpose). Beyond that, you have to focus more on what you have than what you don't. I've served rich people coffee and I've learned that beyond the facade is still wanting more and focusing on what's next or what they could be doing and not so much on all that they've done. I left that job and work at a school. My coworkers are great, and we're thankful for what we have.
I think it's important to have a job you enjoy so I agree with you on that Joe.

I grew up poor than attained money thru years of hard work and was still depressed. Money buys comfort and piece of mind. Depression needs to be healed thru the spirit but most people take meds to numb the pain and give their power to heal to a Doctor to do it for them instead of working on themselves. So no matter how much money you have and all the meds in the world and doctors wont help. Its your job to look at your inner self and change the things that make you unhappy and not a doctor, medicine, big home or luxury car can do that for you

@harambey You added Allah in there. But as for Jesus saying His God. The Father is His God. No one is above Yehovah. I don't fall for this trinity nonsense. I know there's only one God and Jesus is Messiah and also called a god because in Hebrew. God is translated from the word Elohim. Which means ruler, master, spiritual being.
Allah is not the God of the Bible. Islam was created by Catholicism. Which is why Mohammed was married to Khadijah, a very wealthy Catholic nun who financed everything he did. And since Mohammed couldn't read or write. Her cousin is also Roman Catholic. Wrote down what he said he received.
Matthew was written far before Islam ever came around, so to think Jesus took anything from them is ridiculous and not historically accurate.
Catholicism operates Islam behind the scenes and uses them to persecute true believers and further the cause. Catholicism isn't Christian. They are the same old Babylonian religion hiding in Christian garments to make people think they are. Which either deceives the members or getting people to reject God, thinking God has anything to do with them. It's a win-win for evil.
You may not believe me, but one day, everyone will know the truth.
Revelation 14:12 is the key. Remember I tried to tell you. Much love.
If you want a deep dive into Catholicism and Islam connection. TH-cam

Getting to a good spot financially will definitely improve your happiness, but only to point, and I don’t a lot of people realize that. A lot of people have this idea that making more and more money will make them happier, and when it doesn’t, they think “well I then I guess I still haven’t made enough” never realizing that maybe something else is preventing them from being happy. It’s similar to getting in shape. Working out and getting in shape can improve your happiness, but some guys get in their head about it “if I put on more muscle, then I’ll be happy with my body” but they are never satisfied no matter how much muscle they build

Situational depression is so much different from clinical depression. Bill Maher came out of Cornell from a well-off family and, what? Had to pay his dues for a while and wasn't immediately getting the girls he thought he deserved?
Much like John Mulaney and Nick Kroll - they got into excellent schools and come from powerful, wealthy families. There is never really a true danger to them of ending up on the streets.
Mulaney radiates depression, Maher just radiates a specific type of entitled anger that never really goes away, no matter how much money.

It's all about acclimation. I grew up... not well off. I spent many years working minimum wages jobs. If I could pay rent, go out with my friends once a month, and buy one videogame every few months, I was happy.
I finally graduated college with a bachelors in business...but continued working minimum wage jobs for the next several years. I became depressed because I felt that I should be able to get a better job and make more money.
Then, by some miracle, I was able to land a good job making decent money. I was back to being not just happy, but incredibly happy! I had enough money to move into a nicer apartment, get a nicer car, and go out several times a week, as well as buy videogames whenever I wanted. Things were perfect.
But I eventually lost my job and went right back to struggling, except this time, I couldn't even get a job. I was too overqualified for minimum wage jobs, and never got replies from decent jobs.
My money ran out, I lost my apartment, had to move back home, lost my car, and lost all of my nice things. I'm now more depressed than ever.
Why? Because, when you have nothing and expect nothing, you're happy. When you have nothing but expect something, you're depressed. When you expect something and have something, you're happy. But when you go from having something to having nothing...that's true depression.

Money doesn't fulfill. It can temporarily distract you, but it can't satisfy the soul. Only love can satisfy the soul. What is love? Willing the good of the other with no benefit to yourself. If you send your time loving others (willing their good), you'll be happy. You'll be at peace. If you spend your time constantly thinking of yourself and ignoring others, you'll be miserable. That's not to say that self-love isn't important (it's vital and necessary), but part of self-love is loving yourself enough to want to love others. It goes hand-in-hand.

Yep. That's why people get so invested in political issues. Cos we live ostensibly in a democracy people think they have a say in these issues so they cling to it cos they want to feel important in some way. Most people are unimportant, when you realise the world doesn't revolve around you it's painful

This is by far one of the easiest questions to answer in the world it's very very simple they are bored that's the problem when you reach the top of the mountain there's no where else to go and once the excitement wears off it gets really boring really fast. That's why so many celebrities have been busted doing strange things because the things that used to Excite them don't Excite them anymore so they have to amp it up so they can feel excitement again.

Depression happens when you are lying to yourself in order to maintain your values. I see it all the time. People are so scared of being immoral or being a "bad person" that they live life completely wrong. You should follow your caveman instincts when choosing a job, women, friends, lifestyle etc. So many people settle and get married when they really should just sleep around and live in the present moment like a caveman.
The thing is that you have to look forward to tomorrow. You have to do stuff that makes you giggle at the thought of accomplishing it.
Aspiring to be a good person will kill your soul, because you are sacrificing yourself and betraying yourself.

Takes a lot more to appreciate your life than just having money. One requires purpose, meaning and self-respect. Money (and the pursuit of) can give you those things for a time, but eventually one requires something deeper out of life. Most people who don't have money and then get money, usually the goal is to just keep acquiring more.
For most people don't dig deeper into the soul, they just attempt to amass greater wealth/power. And that in a nutshell is our whole societal issue today - glorification of the commoditization of power (which is money) rather than the pursuit of meaning and personal strength. Money and things have a very limited capacity to make you happy, self-respect and self-love can't be bought and are vital to the spirit.
