It’s amazing seeing it in slow motion and seeing all the flaws in his execution. I know many don’t see what I see, but I see areas for improvement. Coaches use this perspective and information to best help take athletes to the next level. I’m sure his coaches see this and know where to improve. Very cool…
Blocks look too small for his feet. Also his first two steps run almost full perpendicular to the track which doesn’t make sense when he’s not up to speed yet.?
@@ismaelochoa6yeah…first thing about these haters here, is they took my comment out of context. I was saying it is COOL to see this perspective because I can see every little tiny thing; of course they had to be ignorant and hateful about it! I don’t like his angles, and while some like toe-drag, I don’t like the toe drag. My biggest concern are his angles, tough…big arm action, which is good, but he’s hunched forward with his back arched while he’s actually getting too tall too soon; a result of the overstriding you mentioned. And it’s a bit like he’s forcing himself to try and stay low instead of just naturally being low and letting himself gradually come up naturally after staying low. It’s his angles for me. The point of saying this stuff isn’t to say he is bad. Every single professional athlete has some kind of flaw here…very few people are always absolutely perfect. BTW, I just saw an old video of Jones and Jeter indoors when Jeter beat her…WOW, to see absolutely PERFECT drive phase, folks need to see videos of Jones! Many don’t realize the drive phase properly executed is supposed to feel almost like you’re gonna fall on your face when done right. Matt has a nice look when he extends, but he’s also using tons of backside mechanics, as well…the second step shouldn’t be standing but so tall. There is obviously tons more I can say, but, I was just making a simple point here it is cool to watch this and see all the imperfections…many track “fans” don’t realize when we coach these athletes we look for flaws we can fix…it isn’t a diss!
Great but if you notice his back right foot, it's just moving forward. zits just there to be there. To have an even more explosive start really generate a ton of power with the back foot at first to blast off.
I can only get triple extension when coming out of the blocks and my steps after get a bit choppy. How do I fix that? And during your transition phase should you force high heel recovery in order to get a good transition into top speed? Pls help if you can Outperform 🙏 Nice video btw
Thanks! Sounds like doing some bounding will help you with patience and force production. Stride length and stride frequency are a balancing act. As far as coming out of the drive phase you don't want to force anything. Check out our video on front and backside mechanics, should help you th-cam.com/video/QdTuopJG8FE/w-d-xo.html
By dragging his left toes like that he is increasing his right foot time spent on the ground. Which made his first step too slow and heavy with too much body mass to transfer forward. At the instant his left foot left the block he should have had brought his knee faster while still in mid-air, so his body mass would have had time to shift forward, giving less body mass to displace forward on his first sride. Only a few sprinters can execute that type of start properly.
@@Just_Stig Yes but one is not suppose to toe drag on purpose. I'm a high school coach. I've seen sprinters with decent starts go from decent to bad starts. When does adding friction on purpose do for speed? Matthew Boling does not have a good start anyway.
The foot drag is a common thing even among little sprinter. Usain Bolt, the fastest man ever, does it in his starts! The point of the toe drag is to make sure your foot stays lower to the ground so that you have the most amount of explosive force and then don’t over lift that leg to reduce speed. Google a video of sprinting toe drag out of blocks as they can probably explain it better than I do. Second off, you’ve clearly never ran track as the stride out of blocks should be a long explosive stride so that you cover as much distance as possible reaching that top speed as good as you can. Also the video is in SUPER SLOW-MO so no, not to much time in the air, the video is just really damn slow. Overall a great start.
@Maeblschi I've run AAU, Highschool and College Track. Sprints and Hurdles. I've also coached Track. I don't believe in the "toe drag" operative word in that is "DRAG," a waste of time. I don't care what these guys are taught when they are taught something that slows them down and is unnecessary! Look at the best starters in the world! Trayvon Brommel, Christian Coleman, and Su Bingtian. They don't waste time with wasted motion. They get their trail leg on the track as soon as possible, and then the lead leg follows not overly elongated strides but short, powerful stabs into the track. Yes. That video was slowed down, but I know what i am looking at! The toe drag is a "fad" now. Some coaches started to "coach" too much. Lol, and now too many are following bad mechanics and physics! Just like the "knife hands" these kids are running with. Uselessly tightening up their firearms. Yes. Usain Bolt can overcome this because he has superior top end speed, much like Carl Lewis, but it is wasted motion. None of the fastest animals started their chase or escape by "dragging" a foot to make sure of anything!
Fantastic points @Maeblschi. The video is very slow 1000 frames per second which shows every little detail. Great thing to keep in mind when comparing to real time or standard slow motion 120 or 240 fps
I worked on my block technique from 6th grade through high school and college. I don't think it ever looked as smooth as this.
Nice technique
Look at that toe drag, everything about this start is PERFECT!👌🏼
I love track and field.

Amazing 🔥 👏

that toe drag 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
I do the 800 and 1600 so I don’t have to do block start but still fun to watch ❤
now that's what I'm talking about 🔥
This me running away from monsters in my dream
Awesome
Nice
Let's go
Ben Johnson had the most effective start technique. Matthew Boling's high knees running technique makes him look like he is running uphill.

Holy crap! Pros have such stiff joints! His right ankle is frozen in place pushing into the third step
I like you
what
That's how it's supposed to be. You run with stiff ankles to utilize the tendon strength, and activate your fascia system.
i love you

The toe drag is gorgeous
Why is it done if you can lift it?🤔
@@SanjayKumar-fq8ds To keep your feet low as possible to the ground

this makes me feel a bit better about my start because mine is very similar to matt’s technique but i lack the explosivity to get sub 11 yet

I've rant track. Highschool and College. Coached it for years. Read my comment. That start is not good at all. Especially for a pro.
How I run in my dreams (the speed LOL)

Why doesn’t his first step have low heel recovery ?
ok
How u gon toe drag and not even keep ya foot low😭😭😂
Jessie Owens done a short step in the block no one noticed
I'm Not a fan of the toe drag.
There is a reason almost all professional sprinters either drag their toe or come come

yes i agree since your a high school coach I have weak hip flexors after I long training session it hurts to raise my leg can you help?
too much room

Dragging left foot on the track. Stride is too long. Spends too much time in the air. This is not a good start!
