  • In this video we are going to try to solve miter saw dust collection by increasing our air flow from the dust collector as well as try to gather the dust closer to the actual cut.
    *This is designed to only work with 90° cuts.

    Love the end result! I'm a dust collection maniac, so I'll impart a little wisdom. Craft your initial designs in cardboard using foil tape. It's a huge time saver, it saves on material cost, it's just a superior approach to creating the end templates for the winning design!

    I've used other (10" saws) previously and was pretty surprised with the speed and cutting ability of this Dewalt saw.I have bolted mine to a table to minimize movement which I highly recommend.This is a Great saw th-cam.com/users/postUgkxPeGkHOMe05FySypTOvYumxMn-xi39oRe with a light to see your cutting line (not a laser line).I'd recommend this saw fro anyone looking to upgrade from a 10" miter saw.

    Of all the many videos on this topic. your solution is by far the best. I think that you have a new Makita mitre saw which has far superior dust collection helps a lot. Good Job!!! Nice results.
    I would think, by now, manufacturers could do a better job with their availabe money and CAD drawings to R&D this issue. Of coarse they would have to even care about it to begin with, which obviously this does not appear to be a priority. The few manufacturers that attempt to tackle the problem seem to always fall short.
    We can put a person into outer space , but we cannot design built in dust collection created by a chop saw at the product manufacture level.
    You are takeing an engineering approach, that not many do, to the age old problem.
    Thank you for your effort and willingness to share with the rest of us the results.

    • @RingsWorkshop
      @RingsWorkshop  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much for the kind words! I appreciate it. Dust collection is always intriguing to me because it seems like a lot is just guess and check to see if it works, so it can get frustrating when it doesn’t, but feels really good when it does!

    • @pawpawstew
      @pawpawstew 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The challenge is for a "chop saw" the dust collection hurdle isn't nearly as high as for a compound sliding miter saw that has to do left and right angles and compound bevels. If you open up the face of any dust collection system enough that it allows all of those angles, it isn't nearly as efficient.

    Awesome video, as always. And, like many others have said, I really appreciate the tidbits of information as far as what not to do just as much as learning the right way to do something. CFM and Velocity are the key! great idea for dust collection on a miter saw! You potentially could alter your design further. Add another 2 1/2" port on the other side maybe lose the line brush so you can add 45 cuts to it.

    • @RingsWorkshop
      @RingsWorkshop  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! I wanted to keep a top on since the some can fling up and out when it wasn’t there. Also on this saw the port and shoe that come down needed a place to clear so I had to make that opening larger than I wanted, so I used the brush cover that while it could still pass through. Not perfect, and I’m sure I’ll keep wanting to find an even better way at some point.

After searching U tube many times looking at huge tents, rubber tubes and various other fixes that I wouldn't waste my time making I came across a fix that had many features the same as yours and made it. It really worked well capturing most of the chips and dust. However, today I came across your video and will be upgrading my first one incorporating your ideas. I don't care that it will only do 90 degree cuts because I use my saw stop table saw and an upgraded miter jig and get perfect cuts for fine items I cut. Nice video skills too so an excellent video. Always good to see what didn’t work, we can fast forward ahead if we don’t want to watch.

    As usual a very informative and stimulation of my brain processes. The magnetic hose connectors I have on every divise in my extremely small shop. Thank you very much for sharing your great ideas

    Firstly, you have the best music of any woodworking / maker 🤘🏼. Secondly, I enjoy how you take us through the process to get to a solution even if it doesn't work at first (or second). Love the miter saw station build.

    Your design is pure genius. I made a similar one to fit my DeWalt and I bet it catches 95% of the dust. Now I'm using that as a template to make one to fit when my saw is at 45 degrees. I'll send you pics when I'm done. The adhesive brushes are one of the secrets to the great design. It works way better than a giant box around the whole saw and i'm selling my big Rousseau 5000 dust shroud, I never like it much. Anyway, thanks for the video.

    Hey great video of your build. I'm in the market for the same saw with the goal of greatly reducing the dust in my small shop. I'm going to utilize your design. Thanks for putting this out here. much appreciated.
