You should get the gearbox vapour blasted. It doesn’t cost mega amounts but the gearbox ends up looking like new!

Amazing how a completely trashed and neglected engine bay cleans up virtually like new!!
the flywheel/clutchpack is one of those "while you're in there" items that you'll wish you did down the road. Just my opinion! Cheers from Colorado, US mate.

@@TRHamzaYou definitely want to replace that dual mass flywheel, trust me I've replaced tonnes of them, the spec is 15mm rotation slop on the outer ring gear when the centre is held still. Also they wobble just like when you grabbed it and wobbled it before removing in this video. That worn out. Please don't reassemble without a new one. Also worn dmf will give mifires, noise, rattles and it ruins the clutch pack on the dsg. Ask me how I know all this. Vag is my stable my man.

Amazing build so far. I want to recommend a product for you when cleaning such a dirty engine bay. I am not sure if you have this product in the United Kingdom, but it is called Sudslab wheel cleaner. It is a wheel cleaner, but it cleans everything. I have used it to clean 20 engine bays. Safe to use on all parts. Safe on aluminum parts. I have not tried it yet on chrome. What I do is I spray it on a cool dry engine bay or rim. I let it sit for 30 to 45 seconds and then I take my pressure washer and blast off the thick dirt and oil off of everything. You just have to try it to see what I am talking about. It is really an amazing product and it saves you so much time when cleaning. It leaves everything clean without scrubbing. The combination of the pressure washer and the cleaner is what makes it a great product.

Tip - bilt hamber surfex HD in a foamer instead of the brake cleaner. Let it dwell and then agitate with brush.. I used it recently to clean up a bad oil leak and it was brilliant.

Enjoy restoration videos! I think the "All purpose cleaner" would have worked better on initial agitation of dirt(not drying up while brushing it), then brake cleaner would have finished it off being completely oil free!

Engine bay looking much fresher, the hard work is paying off brother👌🏽Looking forward to the timing chain job, it'll be nice to see if and how much the old chain has stretched compared to the new. Only thing I'd add from this episode is that it might be worth running a bead of sealant around the cabin air intake vent that sits under the scuttle panel. They like to leak rain water into the passenger foot-well, especially if they've been removed, and it's cheap insurance to seal them up properly while you have relatively easy access.

Would recommend when you were fitting the engine mounts torque them up then do the turn after with a breaker bar rather than your torque wrench will damage it

You can use something called “Amberclens” gets rid of the dirt and grime alot quickly. Alot of manufacturing companies use it, wont have to use the break cleaner then :)

Do you know if you have a little gas blow torch if you just lightly quickly blow it over the black plastics makes them look brand new again I seen this on TH-cam tried it on the pouter plastic on my father in laws Honda cry looked out of the factory worth a try matey. Great channel Thankyou

Try using NO NONSENSE DEGREASER from scewfix, 5ltrs for a tenner and it then just rinse it with water or clean it off with the micro!
@TRhamza mine is done , was very good job , change the oil pump while you are there is a modified one from volkswagen with modified gear wheel .
Having owned a Polo 9N3 in beautiful summer blue with loads of space in the engine bay, it has always left me wondering what engine swaps would be possible. 2.5 swap? Would be awesome to see a Polo on the channel. Love your content!
Been waiting for another upload for this build! Awesome job! The R36 never came to the US. But, the DQ250 did come in the last iteration of the B6. So, all you need is a 3.6 engine and an ECU to swap in a 3.6? Then the drive train components and a transfer case to make it AWD?
Would love to see you replace the EVAP Purge Valve :) I need to figure out how to do mine...

Hit the scuttle with some hammerite. Pretty sure you can get it in various colours. If you leave it, it WILL rust mate. Looking good! Great job.

For engine cleaner a good degeaser in a spray bottle is ideal. Let it dwell then wipe off.
autoglym engine and machine cleaner is your friend rather than brake cleaner. Also small items, trims and plastics (but not ali) put in the dishwasher on a cold cycle with no drying.
What a car this is, owned a R32 for about 5 years and wanted to get one of these but the wife couldn't justify it 😭

Was thinking when you started taking gearbox off that I hope you keep bolts in order ( which you did) as seen a video that someone had put the wrong bolt back in on a R32 Golf and punched through block in to water jacket

Does anyone know if a dsg gearbox from the R36 can be programmed to work properly on an R32? I installed an R36 box on my R32, it runs and drives but my car is down on power. Not as quick vs R32 box.

Gear ratios are shorter on a R32 box so may be contributing to the lack of power when fitting a R36 box (less accelerative). But yeah I’ve seen it done the opposite way (R32 box on a R36)

Was hoping you are doing the chain now 😂 i am doing my R36 in 2 weeks could have give me a heads up in whats to come , i am doing everything chains guides , dual mass flywheel , oil pump and gear , oil pick up tube , pcv valve etc , i don't want to be there again 😂😂😂

No wander he lost track of time he must of been high as a kite after cleaning that engine bay with brake cleaner 😮😂.
Get yourself some surfex hd for degreasing purposes its better than brake cleaner for cleaning dirt away, and it has corrosion inhibitors in it.
An all purpose cleaner would be better than brake cleaner. Turned out great nonetheless
You need to get new intermediate sprockets where the bottom and top chains meet too.
