Without knowing the quality of the contact surfaces inside the switch I would not run the risk of burning my car to the ground from an electrical fire.
The number on the bolt refers to the tensile strength. 12.9 is considered high tensile and used in most engineering applications etc. people typically use these on radial mounts for their brakes as they witness a lot of stress. The higher number means it has an increased tensile strength
12.9 isn't a great idea for brake components. You are correct that the numbers are the tensile strength rating, but 12.9 being so hard also means they don't have any stretch/give. This means in applications where force is applied across the bolt, it doesn't have the ability to absorb the force with a minor amount of flex, and is instead more likely to snap. An 8.8 grade bolt will be better suited to absorb lateral load whilst providing the tensile strength to hold the direct longitudinal force from the brake caliper clamping the rotor. 12.9 grade is ideal for applications where the only force applied on the bolt is from itself, eg. Bolting 2 steel beams together or clamping 2 metal surfaces together.
Having owned several Mk5 (no Gti’s tho) I’ve bought a couple of those it was before…just on Amazon Light switch - win, works great, WAAAAY cheaper that OEM and if you don’t have an upper trim like a GTI or SEL they don’t come with auto lights, those cheap switches come with an attachment for the auto sensor and allow you to make them auto Wheel caps - I had the same issue 🤣, had to buy new ones in the correct size. Mine were already vw badged tho, did not have to get the wheel badge stickers. Dogbone mount - instantly removes some engine slop on accel. Not a great performance gain, but does help out a tiny hair, I also got PU inserts for the engine and trans mounts and made a big difference in driving feel. My dogbone mount was ripped just like that on the last mk5 I had and instantly it made it better than it was before(because it no longer allowed the mount to slop). Maybe a problem you had is that there are 2 available mounts on the mk5 for the dogbone. One is all wiggly like the part you got, there’s also one that’s more round, not as wiggly - maybe you got the wrong one? Also WAAAAAAAAY easier to install if you remove the dogbone entirely before installing, just 3 bolts and it slides out and in, takes 10 seconds. Also use some lubricant and it’ll slide the insert easier, you can use whatever you like, spray dry type silicone works best imo. Also there’s a metal version of it, looks like an L shape, but indont think you can get it off temí, eBay, Amazon etc., only real performance parts suppliers and it works better too, the metal provides extra rigidity and even less movement IMO(I’ve had both, like the metal better) Flush mount charger - bout it before, wasn’t fast charge even tho it advertises as it, also the little handle broke off the first time I tried to pull it out and it was a huge pain to remove it without the handle….mk5 problems, since it’s inside the little cubby and blocked in without easy access and also has the flap lid down making access harder
I've found that the cheap glue used on this sort of stuff melts very easily. Don't be surprised if you come back to a paddle extender on the floor on a hot day😂 Great content nonetheless!
Some good stuff there 👍🏻 i’d bin the dogbone insert and spend the extra cash on a powerflex one. My car has temu wheelbolt covers on which are identical to the vw ones, they cost £6 for the set.
Not a bad haul of bits for the money, the light switch is great value, shame about the wheel centres as they looked pretty smart! Agree with Andy above, definitely get a powerflex insert, they are definitely worth the money 👌🏼
I got that and it got to hot to touch it I had to pry it out with a knife with the little pull handle and throw it out into the yard till it cooled off so I could toss it
Bought a powerflex one of those bushings went straight on with the car on one jack didn t have to cut anything just greased it up like a turkey 😅 and some elbow grease to push it in 15 min job! Guess it depends on quality of molde? Great video!
Those dog-bone mounts have different designs to fit different mounts(they aren't all the same mount, the slits/splits are different from golf to golf, you have to check your pattern before ordering)
@@usuallybrokencars Given the lacking quality of the other parts, I wouldn't trust ANYTHING from TEMU to carry high voltage or amperage like a headlight switch. I don't think I'd even trust their bulbs.
i have that same charger. apparently its 100w, i don't really believe it but it actually charges really fast (27w-33w) . My phone (poco x3 pro) detects it as an original charger!
Question - did your golf have automatic headlight function before installing this, and does it have auto now youve installed it? I have a b7 passat and it doesnt have automatic headlight functionality. wondering if that new switch could potentially add it
That's the wrong dogbone insert. The one you want has round pegs. There is a better headlight switch that has a built in auto sensor thst you can get for the same price. The charger they have a better set up that fills in the blank spots next to your tpms reset, and you can get a pd port. I did the same thing last summer but with aliexpress and i even built my motor with parts from them fully forged. With a china gtx3071R, all mods except the tune and a few other things are name brand.I dynoed over 460whp and its been great. The carbon fiber stuff you can get off their is fantastic, my steering wheel, ebrak cover and mirrors were under 400 delivered for the set up. The brace kits you can get are great and cheap. The piston and rods have no issues and the sk custom intake manifold makes the ie one look like it was built by kids in a 3rd world country, and i own and have no problems with the ie manifold. The cam follower roller conversion is great, requires no mod to the housing and is under 200. The subframe locking kits can be had for 30 bucks and you get the whole car. Even my cheap 85 dollar oil cooler kit has been holding up, even on track day. The car was built as a joke to see how cheap things are, but its been far from it.
@usuallybrokencars it's not on the internet as I build cars for myself, and really hate the vw sceen here in the states, but you can also get a lot of cts turbo stuff off ali as it's made in China. The valve cover and catch I got from cts and the one from ali, you can't tell the difference to the point even cts can't tell.
Great video mate. Could you do me a favour and look on your Temu orders at the centre caps, and tell me what size you bought? I have the same GTI as you and I think I need 65mm centre caps but not sure. If you could check what size you bought so I know what size NOT to buy, that would be awesome and very much appreciated dude :)
You mean fappy paddles. The light swich im not shure you can trust yes it looks the same but its made with cheaper led's and connector so watch out it does not melt or worse burn down the car.
Well its been set to auto for a few months now and has been great, besides the amount of current going to that switch couldn't light a match let alone burn your car down!
Temu electronics scares me i dont want a fire in my car im thinking of the light switch if it catch fire you cant easy trow it out the window like with those usb cigarette lighter chargers
You have to be careful with temu stuff as the quality can be crap like tools I've had many different stuff as well and it's terrible and most I've had to get refunds on most of it and takes two weeks to deliver small stuff and a month for bigger stuff and i will stick to eBay
The ironic thing about that is most of the unbranded and even some of the branded stuff is all from china, regardless if you buy them in a shop, eBay, amazon or temu. No doubt there is some questionable items available though.
All of this thing I buy on Aliexpress before Temu is exist...I hate Temu because of very agressiv commercials and sell same crap from China as all others...🙄
