    It looks wonderful. Mayoi was the first rarer philodendron that I purchased. I'm a sucker for funky leaf shapes. Mine grows a bit more like a hanging philo in that it never really took to the pole idea and kinda grows more outward. I don't mind. It's a super easygoing plant. I'd say it's as easy as heartleaf philo. But with that more exotic look.

      I swear by these plastic D shaped poles....they work so well. The round open poles didn't work for my plants as they dried out way too fast

    If the edges are brown or damaged, I cut them into the shape of the rest of the plant so it’s not noticeable. The plant will heal its new edge into the new shape. That way it’s green and perfect again. 😉

    There is a difference a Mayoi and a Tahiti. Their adult leaves look very different.

    If they share the same scientific name the you know it's the same plant.

    I test the ph of the water as it comes through my soil mix bc the soil as well as the fertilizer can change the ph....

    Buy a digital ph meter. One that can measure ppm as well.
    The ppm is almost as important as the ppm.
    Your plants will appreciate it.

      @@richardlawton1023I have one but the digital meters aren't very good in chunky aroid mixtures.... They are perfect for potting soils!

      @@EverythingPlants I use to check the feed before I feed the plants. Can also check the drain through feed to get a better idea of the pH of the potting mix. I use this mostly for my orchids to tell if the potting mix is too old and needs to be changed
      Thanks for the video. I'm in Port Orchard Wa USA. Grow inside under lights by a large south/ west window.

    The red tint will be only on new leaves. As they mature it turns green.

    Im so glad I found your channel. Your species specific info is definitely what has me coming back but i'd LOVE to see more side by side experiments. For example, different growth hormones for propagations, ph of water, different colors of lighting for different plants, or anything else you can think of. I love your content, in fact I can't remember what brought me here (I think it was jade videos but I know I saw more before that..) and you just have a great scientific, o the point personality.

    Nice video! Have you had any issues with pests? One of my new (unfurled) leaves was covered in a sticky sap.

      @EverythingPlants  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No...nothing so far haha. That sticky sap is most likely the extra floral nectories

    I have a philodendron bipennifolium (golden violin is the common name) and I don't have two leaves that look the same. I would love to know why some philodendrons also seem to struggle birthing their leaves, for example, this plant tossed out a leaf about 3 weeks ago, it struggled to unfurl so I was misting that specific leaf a few times a day as that seemed to help it loosen up (I didn't manually help it along other than with some water). Sooo finally the leaf unfurled and then it sorta had a good C shape but backwards so it's bending backwards. That plants leaves all seem to harden off with a bit of a curve so I thought nothing of it, but in it's journey to harden off, that leaf now is completely bent backwards with it's tip behind its head and touching... I've never seen a plant do that and there are no signs of pests or any changes for it, it just is being it's weird self. I should have splinted the leaf I guess but now it's oddly artistic LOL... during that time it has the next leaf coming out of the sheath (looks like it will be today!) and then the unfurling on that one will begin. It really blows my mind how a plant can just sorta grow with a built in "I need a human" self-destruct button. My philodendron pink princess has snapped off its own leaves while it was stuck in the sheaths since I thought it knew what it was doing.... LOL I now try and help them if I see them stuck. In contrast, the philodendron brasil doesn't ever have any issues with unfurling, so IMO it's gotta be a result of creating man made varieties that shouldn't exist. Kinda like how purebred dogs often get sick in comparison to the mutt that lives forever... So weird! Anyway, as a result, despite there being a LOT of philo's I love, I don't intend to get any more, there are some I would like, but plants are already a lot of work...
    PS I know it's not my humidity since its been 60-70 percent since May, all the other plants are doing their happy dances. I actually had less issue with the philodendron bipennifolium in the winter where I struggled to keep it above 40% humidity, so perhaps these plants actually like it less humid? Hmmmm I need the pencil to think... ;)
