It would be really cool if you made a video about “retro/vintage” houseplant/houseplant trends. Some plants have been trending harder than others throughout different decades, and I would love to see you have a kind of historical presentation (the two kinds I feel are “90’s plants” are specifically Clivia miniata and haemanthus albiflos. At least where I’m from, maybe it’s different in the U.S.?). Thank you for all your great videos!
I love this idea! It would be interesting to see what plants people have forgotten about as it fades out from being carried in big box stores/nurseries
In the 70s monstera deliciosa was super popular so it always it reminds me of my childhood whenever I see it. I just imagine beads hanging instead of doors (which I begged for us to have) and tons of orange, brown and olive furniture (which we did have).
my auto-captions said "fellow dungeon", "philadelphians", and "filled engines" for philodendron in this video and it was truly an emotional rollercoaster
I love my squamiferum but it's such a dang beast. It matured so quickly. The new leaves are around 40cm long with the petioles around the same length. It's only 80cm tall. Each leaf is bigger than the last and I'm starting to feel like it'll need its own apartment soon at this rate.
@@gwenncoath8941 I attribute most of my success to pon and a very sunny home. Honestly I think it gets more sun than it really likes but pon has been a game changer for most of my plants.
I got a small cutting of a philodendron gloriosum back in 2019 from a Facebook group and now I've got 3 large leaves with another one coming! I actually thought that it died at one point as it lost all of its leaves (underwatering issue) but it came back beautifully and is happier than ever! Hope than one day mine will be as large as your plant! It's definitely in my top three favorite plants that I own! I also have a small philodendron billietiae that I love dearly, though she grows quite slowly. However, she's been putting out some larger leaves lately which makes me pretty excited!
I got a large micans for free at a local nursery because the guy forgot I wanted to buy it and he heard me say it was my birthday so threw it in with all the other things I bought. It's a "basic" girl but I'll never get over the velvet leaves. So for sentimentality and pure appreciation, it's a solid number one. I keep missing mayoi cuttings at crazy low prices and even some gloriosum starters for as low as 15 on my local fb group. I need to keep a bit more active watch on it 😅
Hey Nick, hope your well! You always make me laugh/smile, or nod aggressively in agreement...lol Love your showcased Philodendron. I love my Squamie, the only "rareish" plant I own( FYI I paid $24!!! For a 6 inch plant) lucky ...heehee. Ty again for educating and entertaining us.
i've got a philodendron rudolph that is absolutely taking over, she's got deep red petioles as long as my forearm and big leaves that just keep maturing more and more, way faster than my florida. They're such a joy to watch!
I don't have any of those. My current faves that I own are: 1. P. Erubescens 'Black Cardinal' 2. P. Burle Marx 3. P. Brandtianum 4. P. Florida (pedatum x squamiferum) 5. Has been reclassified from P. Xanadu to Thaumatophyllum Xanadu, which I've also seen referred to as 'Enzie' & 'Enzi' And Honorables to I guess my now 'common' Brasil and Birkin. :)
Love all your philodendrons ❤ Thanks to you, I’ve been able to obtain a handful of philodendrons that are great for my home. Thank you sooooo much for sharing all the plant info you put out.🦋🌺
“Gateway Philodendron” love that. I love houseplants and always had quite a few but swore I wasn’t getting into the crazy houseplant (pricey) craze while it was going on. And then I met Monstera Peru. It was quite the slippery slope from there. Thankfully nothing too insane but many weren’t cheap. Love them all though 😊
Hi Nick! I like all of the 5 philodendrons that you picked, but don't have any of them, or any of the honorable mention ones. I do like the shape of the leaves on them. The gloriosum is beautiful! That was a good tip on keeping them confined to the pot. I love to see your excitement over your plants! You always make me smile, ot laugh out loud. Thank you so much for sharing!

Awesome. I have 2 small Atabapoense, 1 of which has 5 leaves, 2 that curl and 3 that are maybe 6 inches long. I have been wanting a Squam, thought of a trade with smaller Atabapoense, but if going to be at stores for less, I will hold off. Love your Vids.!
Philodendron tripartitismi has cool leaves. You probably need to give it more light and a moss pole to be less leggy and keep more leaves. Check Sydney Plant Guy here on TH-cam. He grows philodendrons indoor to mature size. Bamboo sticks do not allow aerial roots to grow and sustain a big plant.
