- Expeditions: A MudRunner Game is basically about driving extremely slowly to an archaeological dig site. It's like they made a game just for me.

2 minutes in, Jon is doing a 4-wheeling game, and doesn't know the term for a 4-wheel vehicle. THIS is going to be amazing!...
Isn't Jon being sarcastic!?
@darshans6321 Based on how much flak Dan & Matt give Jon every time he horrifically fails at explaining anything mechanically in Podcats episodes, I believe Jon geuine doesn't know, though he could just be a brilliant actor, but given he gets grief from Claire too I seriously doubt it's entirely a bit
Or the term for using all 4 wheels...
Saguaro cactuses take 80 years before they grow their first arm, so every saguaro you destroy with your car is literally hundreds of years worth of environmental damage
It seemed like Jon was accidentally saved by running out of fuel before he could kill himself, then he remembered he had spare fuel.
The truck itself tried to save me...
I appreciate that Jon is such a nerd that the "boring bits" of Archeology are driving to the site and not any of the painstaking excavation and cataloguing
Or the charting of the site and checking soil before they even start excavating
You say that, but his examples are indiana jones and Lara croft...
I always assumed that archaeologists and paleontologists were the kinds of tedious obsessives that would appreciate such painstaking activity.
You tend to make your best guess and just start mattocking the topsoil off, if that bit had not been done by digger. But every dig is different.@@irecordwithaphone1856
@@FreekymohoWe need a Time Team Watch Party with Jon!
4:25 those Saguaro cactus are protected by law, archaeologist Jon is going to prison.
I thought the same thing about the Saguaro cactuses that Jon was blithely trashing. If you purposely cut one down it's considered a felony and 25 years in prison! Other damage, theft, or transplant will result in large fines and jail time! They are a national treasure!
For those who don't know what "AWD" is, Jon included, it stands for American Wildlife Destroyer mode, worse fuel efficiency, more emissions, that kinda thing. All in the never ending quest for more traction and power. (unless you're boring, then it just stands for All Wheel Drive... which is boring)
8:15
Reducing tire pressure makes the tire change shape more, which results in a larger section of the tire touching the road/rock, which makes the tire grip better, but also means energy is lost as the tire deforms, plus that deformation leads to heat, and can even pop the tire if pressure is too low.
JON! THAT CACTUS WAS OLDER THAN THE UNITED STATES!
Most things are
Gotta love that Jon knows how pedantic his audience is with the paleontology vs. archaeology callout 😂
Once again we prove that Jon should never be allowed near the controls of any vehicle
I love when stuff starts going wrong and Jon is uh oh, no no noing but just keeps doing the thing that's getting him in trouble.
If that;s not an analogy for modern politics I don't know what is. Including when if it does work by some quirk of chance Jon goes 'Haha I'm a genius!'
Seems like the perfect game for another Podcats roadtrip hint hint nudge nudge
I saw it on steam and could already heard Dan yelling "Power!"
It doesnt have co--op at launch. So maybe later?
That title pun is 11/10. It made me laugh.
Jon has the best pun titles on this whole website, I'm convinced of it
@@TrashHeapCustodian And if not the very best, then certainly the most consistent. Years and years of pun-titles.
Does Claire help you come up with these puns? You guys deserve an award for most consistent youtube title humor!
8:06 Well you see Jon, when you have less air in your tires, your tires get a bit squishy, and squishy tires can "grab" the rocks better than stiff, full tires can.
Is anyone going to teach him about the differential locker?
No?
Okay, yeah, that's probably for the best.
If he’s confused by all wheel drive, diff lock will blow his brain up
the magical torque mode might just be All Wheel Drive.
that said... the whole entry on the feature doesn`t mention that once.
It does say "all driven wheels" but yeah it should probably just say "all wheel drive" right at the top
24:00 This is a great example of "What did you think was going to happen?"
Jon is really feeling the call of the open road lately, isn't he?
Country Roads take him home, to the place where he belongs, not West Virginia, 76 is meh, Country Roads take Jon home.
love the title lmfao
A non-insignificant part of why I follow this channel is to see what pun Jon/Claire/Whoever's-Responsibility-is-Video-Titles thought up on any given day.
I’m only five minutes into this and I already know that I would love to see Jon play Snowrunner. Amur would be hilarious.
Jon has played Snowrunner. It's on this channel. He did a video and a livestream.
I have good news for you. Search for Snow runner on his channel, it was an experience 😂
Amur? You're an evil evil man, that region is hell... 😆
It's March and I work on a "dirt" road in the American Northeast; that mud doesn't seem too bad.
Nothing says "I love data entry" like not knowing what all wheel drive is 😂
This went exactly as I expected :D
Thanks for the fun Jon.
Welp. I guess it's time for another road-trip with Dan and Matt. It's been almost 4 years.
Finally! A Game that lets me play the dotted red line instead of the cool Archeologist. Was time these get some appreciation with how much heavy lifting they do!
Livestream of this game!! I love watching you play driving games
During the whole video I was thinking about the faces of the scientists, that Jon was driving to the archeological site.
After Jon’s disastrous display in Snowrunner, I can’t wait to see how poorly this goes. 😅
-An American truck driver & car enthusiast.
you can practically hear Jon hitting V to winch-check
Jon - drives onto a bush - "I'm stuck on a rock"
Hello Jon, letting the air out of your tires widens the surface area that it can grip. When going uphill, you don’t want to let off the gas, you want to keep constant momentum if you can. They’re absolutely is a science to off-roading. AWD means All Wheel Drive also.
I hope so much when the co-op launches, there'll be another Podcats Roadtrip
Dang it, Jon! You got me into Snowrunner, and now you are going to get me into this! Why do you keep getting me into driving games?
In all seriousness, though, thanks! I love these games and I wouldn't have tried them if you a Claire hadn't made the original Snowrunner video!
It's amazing that Jon hasn't learned a single thing since playing Mudrunner with Matt and Dan. Shows true commitment to be honest, I can admire that.
If you liked Snowrunner, keep in mind this does not have the same kind of open-world map. Each expedition is a separate mission, where you pick trucks at the start and they are extracted out of the map when you finish that expedition.
You can't leave trucks out in the world. As long as you are okay with that, this seems like a good game.
Oh Jon. AWD = All Wheel Drive. Power to all wheels means more fuel used to drive them.
Well this is delightful. I remember playing Mudrunner: A Spintires Game a fair bit about 8 years back. Basically this, but about logging instead if archaeology.
26 minutes of watching John drive the Mako.
If Jon had been driving Indiana Jones, he'd never have found the Ark of Covenant since they'd both be stuck in a muddy ditch.
Also I'd welcome another livestream of wiggling and pulling it out.
That's, uh, an interesting turn of phrase you've used there 😅
So, has Jon leveraged any of the experience to from playing Snowrunner back in the day to be better at this game?
Spoiler: No, no he has not.
hopefully the coop comes out well, its always fun playing these games with others and getting each other stuck/unstuck and I could see it being something you and Dan do
Cars usually only have 2 wheels receiving power from the engine, either rear or front, because roads are regular enough friction from 2 wheels is enough and the other 2 can just rotate along. But offroad there might be spots where roads don't toch the ground, or are on some slippery surface, so thr teo unpowered wheels act almost as anchors. AWD stands for All Wheel Drive and, if the car has the hardware for it, means all wheel are powered, meaning all contact points with the ground actively rotate.
Somewhat similarly, consider a car turning in a very small radius. The two front wheels each "draw" circles, but the inner wheel draws a smaller circle. It travels less distance compared to the outer one. So you need a system to allow right and left wheels to rotate ad different speeds, or one or both will drag along the ground. That system is a differential, and even allows one side to stop moving while the other moves teice as fast. This happens again when a wheel is not touching yhe ground, or is on a slippery surface. The differential lock, the other mode you could have used, blocks this sustem so both sides have to rotate at the same speed, meaning, again, both contact piints with the ground are actively turning.
Few things satisfy more than listening to Jon blather confidently on about things he presumably knows nothing about.
Ah, a resupply area.
Jon, nah, I dont need fuel
"try not to destroy too many cacti"
*destroys as many cacti as possible in a straight line*
Gud job m8.
please stream this madness!
Not even 2 minutes in and Jon doesn't know what AWD is. This is going to be good.
The abbreviation the game horrendously overexplained is All Wheel Drive, makes all wheels spin instead of just two!
lower pressure basically allows the tires to fold around the rocks and grip edges better, even lower pressure lets the tires squish out sideways giving a bigger footprint in deep mud thus more to gain traction with. At least thats my understanding.
The depth of field and color of the rocks is purposely done so that you can't easily see the topography of the land until you are right on top of a sheer cliff! LOL!
I feel like Jon has more fun coming up with the names for the videos containing puns than he actually has fun playing the games in the videos XD
At least the first car they give you is one you don’t mind destroying, it’s a Lada Niva.
When he got the anchor points I wanted him to try to do a Hayduke so so bad and he did and it made me so happy
I think John needs like... a 'anything that deals with mechanics' consultant.
4WD means instead of powering 'just' 2 wheels of a car, the vehicle can power all 4, making all 4 wheels spin. Like when you see a car do a burnout only the rear wheels spin, if you had the car in 4wd strapped to a wall or something and pressed the gas, instead of 2 wheels doing a burnout all 4 wheels will be spinning.
Subbed just for video title alone
Less air in the tyres means more ground pressure.
The final third of this video illustrates why archaeologists has helicopters.
Jon, a game called Quilts & Cats of Calico just dropped on steam the other day, I think you'd find it quite charming and I bet you already have your eye on it, but thought I'd mention it just in case. Cheers.
1:40 AWD Mode means All Wheel Drive Mode, Jon!
Sad that Jon shows he knows shit about cars huh.
@@richknudsen5781 i mean, 95% of people in the uk won't need awd in their daily lives, and even moreso in england specifically, so why would you know about it?
@@redwitch95That is the dumbest answer yet to how Jon, who plays all kinds of game, driving one included, would not know what awd signifies. Go sit with the other dunces in the corner fool.
After the success of programs like Top Gear, how can any man not know what All Wheel Drive is?
AWD = All Wheel Drive - Proceeds to go down the hill and slide sideways in rear wheel drive mode lols
That's a great pun.
Excellent display of how off road is done by a pro.
When he was about to cross that gap at the end, I was fully expecting him to quote Clarkson's "How hard can it be?" followed by "SPEEEEED/POOOWEEEEER"...
I was thinking he would deploy an anchor point to winch across, forgetting all about Jon's infamously low perception level. Never change, Jon!
My dream car is a Volvo XC90 DS AWD so I was so happy when Jon mentioned AWD
I believe this requires a livestream.
This needs a real-life crossover with one of the off-road recovery channels like Trail Mater or Matt's Off-road Recovery...
im the only one that needed a momment after he rappel down a cliff?
thats not how the anchor....nevermind it worked somehow
Out of curiosity, what IS the "correct" way to use it?
Because I somehow had the same idea as Jon...
@@johnyshadow You would use the anchors as a winch point for pulling yourself up hills like you see john do with trees in the video. Basically just think of it as a mobile tree. The idea of repelling a car down a cliff is so ridiculous I can't believe it actually somehow managed to work, but I guess that's Jon luck for ya
Star Control double Oh forty one!
Mudcrawling is some goopy fun.
This request started short and sweet
Like a good old-fashioned tweet.
But then it got out of hand... and the rhyme scheme fell off for a stanza and I forgot to hit return and change lines and oh-god what's happening somebody help!!
AHEM.
Humbly, humbly, ever-so-humbly,
sweet like a cookie (biscuit)
that's ever-so-crumbly
I request again, for Jon to play
Star Control 2, at some point, some day.
It's his favorite game
He just doesn't know it.
I'll keep humbly requesting
and try not to blow it.
TYVM and GB
That abseiling was imperception savant kicking in.
Jon glad your feeling better
omg please livestream this it will be amazing
This appears to be the second strand type game, thanks to the inclusion of the winch and the awkward yet engaging traversal.
Back in the day Snowrunner had an official trailer that shot for shot copied Death Stranding
"British man drives Lada Niva: The Documentary"
has, uh, jon ever driven a car before?
Title, best pun evva
Jon the pun Lord
Jon… AWD… All Wheel Drive…
🤦♂️
Ugh. This is hard to watch. It's a dry, desert-like environment. I've been hiking in these types of areas (Arizona, Nevada), and the ground tends to be hard and gravelly. Whereas this vehicle behaves CONSTANTLY like it is bogged down in deep mud or sand. There could be some areas that are more sandy or muddy, but there'd also be other areas where you'd have the opposite problem, where the surface is pretty hard with a bit of loose gravel on it, where the vehicle would just tend to slide down hills, would be hard to brake. Maybe I'm wrong, as I haven't actually driven off-road much in these areas, but it just feels wrong to me.
Day 0049/1230 of requesting Jon read Macbeth to us with accompanying funny voices for the characters. A-alright. I can do this. There is a floor... surface, whatever. I can walk. That's a place I can start.
great video as always jon !
Was wondering if we'd see Jon doing a Snowrunner game, they're almost therapeutic with the terrain being the only challenge & not needing twitch reflexes
4:18 I never knew Paleontology studies LIVING things. I thought it was the opposite.
ok I just had an idea for a "simple" multiplayer game, an even large map, multiplayer PVE coop game, tracked vehicles, trucks, jeeps, motor bikes, snow-mobiles, you play as emergency rescue crews that has to rescue NPC's out of dangerous areas before; a volcano erupts or a wildfire sweeps through or an avalanche might start at any time, find a crash plane and survivors in a jungle, desert or in a war zone.. while a sand storm, blizzard or hurricane is just begining, making helicopters impossible, and lowering visibility
Jon can submit this video for his driving license test.
Oh looksie, they made a game of my nightmares.
Lol all wheel drive jon 🤣
So they're adding new tools to the mudrunner games. Sweet. Now if only they could fix the issues with multiplayer in Snowrunner.
How British do you have to be to not know what AWD is?
I mean, yeah, when is AWD necessary in Britain?
Well technically those vehicles featured are Four Wheel Drive, not AWD.
All Wheel Drive vehicles always give power to all the wheels whereas a 4WD has the option of 2 or 4 powered wheels.
I guess they just call it AWD for simplicity because this game has vehicles with more than two axles.
Wait why is there a Lada Niva in Arizona?
Why is a Catalina, a flying boat, crashed in Arizona?
It ran out of fuel, just like Jon!
those cacti you ran over were decades or maybe even centuries old smh. where's the botany driving game
Indiana Jones uber driver simulator.
This pun got me good jon
23:23 jon i cant really say jumping a meter gap carrying a weather station weighing too much would be appealing
So what I'm getting is that this is somewhat of a car-based strand-like.
Drive Stranding, if you will.
18:47 Don't betree me!
This game really isn't for me, not only because it's a bit too complex for my taste, but also because watching Jon drive a smoke-spewing truck through all that pristine nature and pretty flowers hurts my Scandinavian heart.
That was ao funny
