He did not destroy his voice, whoever said that doesnt know what they are talking about. Hes still touring an sounds great. He did however, stop sounding so good for a while, but Id be willing to bet it was on purpose since it was right around the time he had all that drama with the band and then left. Their breakup was like a bad toxic divorce.

I dont know who made the comment that he destroyed his voice....smh, absolutely not true. Eyes of a Stranger came out in '88. The man is older now and doesn't sing in that register anymore. But if you watch some of his latest live videos you'll see that he can still belt. Maybe half a step lower but still powerful 🙂

There's some misinformation about Geoff Tate. He was a smoker but gave it up years ago. His voice did deteriorate in the late 1990s/early 2000s but he has recovered most of his voice in recent years. Yes, he's in his 60s and can't quite hit the higher notes the way he did in his 20s and 30s, but he still sounds amazing live. The man has a great natural voice and excellent technique. By comparison, the man who replaced him in what remains of Queensryche can hit the high notes but doesn't sound nearly as good at anything else.

Actually, Geoff was dropping the highest note on the "all" syllable of the line "No happy ending like they've always promised" by the time I saw the band live during the "Building Empires" tour in 19990. However, he does hit a high Gb5 preety full on during the encore performance of "Walk in the Shadows" on the DVD "Mindcrime at the Moore" which I'm sure is a lot higher and at least a decade later! Todd la Torre singing "Dilent Lucidity" is woeful!

He was great at adding in emotional detail. He did wear out his voice and tgen between smoking and time away he seemed to stuggle there for a bit, but I believe he's pretty much back now. A lot is made (and rightfully so) of Geoff's vocals, but not near enough of his bandmates and their contributions. Every one of them is a master at their craft. Former guitarist Chris DeGarmo, in addition to being a monster guitarist, was also an incredible vocalist in his own right, singing the same notes as Geoff and often singing higher harmonies. Almost everybody in that band also sang backup in addition to their instruments.
    Great reaction as always.

It funny that you are doing this reation today. This album debuted May 2nd in 1988. Walk in the shadows is one of my favorite songs. The man was unbelievable.

If you haven't listened to it yet, Road to Madness is an excellent one to review. It is from their album "The Warning"

I saw Queensryche twice. A tighter band you will never find. I used to work at the old Cleveland Coliseum. I've seen hundreds of shows. They crushed it.

Someone who is coming out of sedation doesn't have much diction .... it's slurred with blurry vision. Epic Album ... you can feel what the character is feeling.

I concur on "he didn't destroy his voice", if anything his voice has matured. He was incredible during his Big Rock Tour!

Best concert I've ever seen. Should have done the Livecrime version of Eyes too... ending is extended with some great guitar work. I was at the Madison, WI show where most of the live footage was taken and can see me and my friends a few times under the boom camera that was swinging over the crowd on the floor.

Awesome! Thank you Chase, and Maggie! so glad you did more off this historical LP, and pray you do more of it, and continue the story from it. Seeing them perform this entire LP live is the BEST concert experience I have ever had, and trust me, I have been to hundreds of live shows in my 5 decades of concert going life. 🤘😎🤘

Thanks! I was glad to sponsor it, and I'm so glad you liked it. She was going to react to Eyes of a Stranger, and I was like, "Please do the Empty Room intro into it!! It really helps set the other song up." Luckily, she more than willing to do so! I threw in the backstory of what had happened in the album for context so she could grasp what was happening. She has since reacted to Suite Sister Mary on her Twitch Livestream. I think it will be uploaded here on TH-cam before too long. For what its worth... Maggie is very interested in reacting to the entire album, so that might be something that happens sometime in the near future.

@@chasestreet8082 That's fantastic! I have seen her other QR reactions when she did them. I suggested to do the entire LP, and she replied with a thanks for the idea. We shall see if it happens or not.

this is like pink floyd's the wall, hard to take one song out of the entire story line. All the songs are great including "I Don't Believe in Love" You need to listen to the entire album front to back to get the feeling to these songs.

He didn't destroy his voice. People just don't want their heroes to age and evolve... Geoff still kicks major tale! These songs are labor intensive and he's still outsinging his replacement. The band lineup changed and he adjusted down to the lower vibrations that were left.... people don't understand how emotional singing can be when you're vibing within a nucleus as opposed to fighting the vibe.

I saw him solo in 2016 and was disappointed. Saw him solo in 2018 and he was better, saw him in 2019 and he was surprisingly very good, saw him in 2020 and he was great. Heard he had been working with a vocal coach.

Usually, Geoff has really great articulation! It's one of the first things I noticed about his singing. Granted, live performances sometimes aren't quite as clear.
I disagree with the person who said he destroyed his voice by all that projection power. At some point ( years beyond this release,) his voice did decline somewhat. But he has great technique and support. I believe it might have been due to the fact that for several years he smoked (!!), AND he and his wife own vineyards and have their own wine label...wine can't be good for vocal chords....plus getting older. But then he really worked on getting his voice back in shape and it's pretty good now!
YEAH! Michael and Chris always do twin guitar parts, and no matter how intricate it is, they are always totally in sync,! LOVE the WHOLE band! And what fantastic songwriters too!
On the album, and in live shows there's an awesome longer ending to this song which I hope you'll hear sometime! Yes, BASS and DRUMS! WOW!!

they were doing up to 300 shows a year every year, that's where his voice went. Geoff was not a smoker. You need to listen to the entire album.
