Every song on this album just flows from one to another. The entire album is like listening to one long, fantastic song. Incredible, incomparable album.
This whole album is a masterpiece. It should be listened to from start to finish. Geoff Tate has one of THE most amazing voices I have ever heard. Excellent reaction.
I prank called my kid sister with that little bit when this came out. Glad that I did that when we still had land lines so I could FEEL her slamming the phone down after she screamed. 😂
You will not find a band where the drums and bass work together as tight as these guys surrounded by awesome vocals and talented guitarists that can sing harmony. Awesome!
@@carlgibbons5777 I agree. Mindcrime II gets a bad rap. It does have a number of solid songs on it and I liked the continuation of Nikki's story as he plots his revenge on Doctor X.
I was fortunate enough to see this album (Operation Mindcrime) performed live with actors portraying the various characters in the lyrics....just outstanding...one of the best concerts I have ever attended.
You guys did a very great job reacting to a very awesome group, I hope you react to more 1984 songs from Them in Tokyo concert, Queen of the riche We'll definitely rock you out Please do this song!
I'm 63 and I d remember this song... Great analysis, guys; you caught everything in the song and brought it out for inspection and discussion. Loved this, keep it up - you guys are gonna be BIG.🤘
This song was number 1 on headbangers ball for six weeks when MTV still played videos. You need to listen to the entire Operation Mindcrime CD from beginning to end to understand this song though. It's a masterpiece so you wont mind.
I was honored to see this tour with Metallica... The Justice tour . Queensryche and Metallica we're both labeled parental advisory albums at the time....... Imagine that.,.... Queensryche was soul so so underrated.... Forever in my heart
I saw my first concert in 1972 and my last concert in 1995. Hands down the best f**king concert I ever saw was Operation Mindcrime. 2nd row, dead center, Denver. Best Concert Ever. All these years later, I can still see and hear it in my mind. You guys, no matter how many videos you watch, it just doesn't capture how beautiful and amazing these guys were in concert and how hypnotizing it all was. Geoff Tate - there is no comparison. Keep listening, you'll love this album but holy shit -- live -- it was like nothing you've seen before and nothing you'll see again.
I think every song on the album Empire are excellent, Geoff Tate is amazing and I am saying this as a 71 year old. I first heard them in 1994 and his voice mesmerized me. I still listen to them like Deep Purple everyone is great at all their instruments
Most underrated band ever in my opinion, They were so awesome live with Geoff Tate. Softer side ballet from them is Silent Lucidity, Empire is another great song
I was lucky enough to see Queensryche a few times in my life and they are a band that are just as amazing live as they are on their albums. This was a concept album and was awesome to see as a live show.
I have to listen to this album complete often. Very solid, fun songs, lyrics that can transcend the time they were written. Mus8c that shreds, vocals.... Great stuff. Recommend the full album for sure. Keep listening to great stuff from the past guys.
You guys might know this already, but just in case you do not. This song is the last song on the Operation: Mindcrime album, , which is a concept album (so the lyrics might seem out of place without knowledge of the complete story). I consider this to be one of the best concept albums of the 80's and the story is still relevant to our world today. When you get a chance, the three of you should give the whole album a listen (on your own time if you want), just make sure to have the lyrics close by and sit back and enjoy.
YES, I concur! Best concept album ever! But there will be a lot for you guys to talk about, story-wise. Give it several listens, it gets better and better. Not everything is spelled out, but there are plenty of clues lyrically, and the music is awesome! One of the things QR is very good at doing is writing the music to fit, and support, the lyrical content. There's an especially cool thing they did (whether purposely or just intuitively) with the music for " THE MISSION"(same album). I think a discussion on your show after hearing the album would be cool, with clips perhaps. NOTE:. The ending was truncated for this video, it's actually longer and more awesome. I'd recommend the live performance for the most intense ending. However, on the album version there is a small silence at the end followed by three final words from Nikki, the main character. Really good. it brings the album and story full circle...which you'll understand when you hear the whole thing. 😜 Yes, drums should be louder!! Always! (Drums are my fav instrument). You really picked up on something I noticed with QR. They don't do a lot of showing off. They play what the song NEEDS. They do capture pain and angst in the music, when that's called for (like in The Mission from same album). That's one of the many things I love about them. They are a cohesive unit, telling a story with music and lyrics. And not just individual players doing their thing. They are known for their twin guitar parts, which I love. There's a killer guitar solo by Michael in "Speak" ( from same album) you might enjoy too! I was not aware of QR at ALL until I saw their video for "Anybody Listening?" (on MTV) from their FOURTH release, Empire!! Never heard of them before that! This was 1990-ish. So, I don't think they got much mainstream airplay at all back then. Such a shame! They don't fit the mold in many ways. I love that! I've been checking you guys daily since you did Take Hold of the Flame. SO satisfying to see you guys do this one! I love your comments about the music, lyrics, vocals, etc! Thanks so much! Looking forward to more!
Queensryche's fading into obscurity was brought about by two main factors. One, any band that had even a remote link to 80s metal was shunned by the public in general once Grunge broke, Also, they were a band who liked to evolve, try new things, and their sound changed from album to album. A few salute that kind of artistry, but many of their core audience felt the band had gone in a direction that wasn't for them. Empire was a huge commercial hit, and it was filled with so much amazing stuff, but that success it gained was looked at by some as selling out. Promised Land followed, and sales plummeted. The fickle public had moved on, and their core fan base wasn't interested either, despite it being one of their best written albums. I urge you to check out more of their material, a lot more. Either chronologically, to experience their evolution, or randomly to appreciate their diversity and talent as a whole band.
Queensryche was always in the metal category back in the day. We played them multiple times daily here in Dallas on our rock stations. Queensryche shows always sold out. Their show was perfection
I'm in my 50's n it is so cool seeing younger guys discover gems from the 80s-90s. I was a huge fan of QR in high school, Desert Storm (a friend sent me a copy of "Empire" there), and early 90s. When I was stationed in Tucson, a friend knew a dj n got us backstage passes to meet them when they were selling out 20K arenas. They were so gracious backstage. This was on "Promised Land" tour and my wife n I sat at a table on stage for one of the songs they were recreating a 60s jazz club vibe. We were so close to the band I could hear them acoustically strumming strings. Unforgettable n I have the gtr picks n autographed copy of the CD. Operation Mindcrime is an exceptional concept album n the 3 vids they released for the album will make more sense if you listen to the whole album. Like many bands, they had personal issues. Chris DeGarmo (guitar/writer), Geoff Tate (singer) n recently Scott Rockenfield (drummer) are not part of the band. Current lineup makes cool tunes but not what they made up to "Promised Land". ****so listen to Operation Mind Crime or watch Live Crime". Its a masterpiece up there with Pink Floyd's the wall.
One of the absolute greatest concept metal records of all time. It's flawless. Queensryche is the pure definition of genius NOT being understood in its own time. This record should be in the Smithsonian....its concept and lyrics are more relevant than ever. Geoff is one of the greatest to sing Rock imo. Ever.
There was Smokin in the Boys Room and Girls Girls Girls songs at this time............Then THIS and it blew our minds for eternity, even Queensryche could not outdo it no matter how hard they tried. Its a MASTERPIECE
Yeah, the whole album. Spreading the Disease is great if I had to pick a next one. So glad you guys are highlighting this group; prog metal wouldn't be the same without this record ! 💥🔥🤘😠🤘🔥💥
It's always interesting to see people react to a band I consider to be, hands down, the best bend ever. Listen to Mindcrime from start to finish, in order. It holds up all these years later. Geoff continues to tour and sounds just as good today. Mindcrime & Empire was played constantly on the radio.
Geoff Tate is amazing. I read somewhere that he and Ann Wilson of Heart at some point worked with the same voice coach (I don’t know if it’s true). Anyway, he is certainly in select company, ramking right up there with the likes of Ann Wilson, Steve Perry, Freddie Mercury, Sebastian Bach and the guy from Steelheart.
Once you get past Geoff's vocals then you can truly experience the greatness of this band.. and yes the hype from 80s material is what happened, but I would like to say all their material they have done with this line-up is true greatness.. and yes I said it..GREATNESS.🤘
I agree 👍 100 PERCENT bro Geoff wrote every song on operation mind crime. Chris D. Wrote the song the mission I saw them live blew me away 😮. You guys have to play more.. Thanks 👍
They got a lot of radio time when their album "Empire" came out. Still, Operation mind crime is a must to listen to start to finish. Could be an amazing reaction video or you to contemplate doing??? The "Rage for Order" album was great in my opinion as well. A little darker but damn.. Very good
YES, I know this album like the back of my hand. When it came out it was the most EPIC thing my sister and I had ever heard! And we were obsessed w Geoff Tate! I have an all new appreciation now, I didn't know what prog metal was back then... They're just all amazing musicians! Thanks for reacting to this, it deserves a comeback. 🤘😠🤘🔥💜
Technically it's called "Progressive Metal", Also I seen these guys preform in Dayton, Ohio at the Hara arena with Metallica And Justice for All concert, in 1989, and it was one of the best and memorable concerts that I have ever seen performed by "Geoff Tate's Queensryche", and it was the best Operation Mindcrime concert that I've seen ever performed by the Band. Geoff Tate was in his Prime at the time as great singer, and he fricking blew the roof off the arena because of his powerful vocals.
One of my favorite concerts- they did the album in its entirety with the “movie/video” behind the band and it was amazing. Hard to get the story piecemeal, but it’s worth the time to listen to the whole album for the full effect!
I've been a Van Halen freak since the late 70s but my all time favorite pump me up song is and always will be is Take hold of the flame just the perfect song 🤘🤘🤘
I don't throw the whole "masterpiece" title around often, but this album really is. From start to finish it is just a brilliant album. do yourself a favor and listen to the whole thing. Suite Sister Mary will evoke every emotion you have.
She's based on a real person, a Dutch prostitute who was strung out, carrying this frayed teddy bear and they thought it was so sad. So they turned her into Sister Mary. "On the alter of sacrifiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice!" Spreading the Disease is probably my favorite, Geoff just kills it. 🤘💜
The Queensryche song that Nick probably knows (but doesn't realize it) is "Silent Lucidity" from their NEXT album _Empire_ in 1990. That album has some bangers as well. Speaking of Pink Floyd, they WERE a big influence on The Ryche, on this song and especially "Silent Lucidity." You should definitely react to "The Queen Of The Reich" from their 1983 self-titled EP, "Warning" from their 1984 album of the same name, "I Dream In Infrared" and "Gonna Get Close To You" from 1986's _Rage For Order._ Also the entire _Operation Mindcrime_ album, and "Silent Lucidity," "Empire," "Jet City Woman," "Another Rainy Night (Without You)" and "Last Time In Paris," ALL from 1990's _Empire._
Queensryche did achieve some airplay in their earlier years on rock stations with the help of MTV rotations of "Queen Of The Reich" and "The Lady Wore Black" from their initial EP. Their first full length album didn't get as much airplay with the exception of "Take Hold Of The Flame". Their second garnered them a top 100 hit with "Gonna Get Close To You" which personally, I feel was one of the worst songs on it. "Walk In The Shadows" and "Chemical Youth" got some airplay. Both these disc went gold, so there was a following( me included). Then came Operation:Mindcrime and this disc blew up for them. Several songs from the album were played on rock radio and at least a few had videos on MTV. First Platinum disc for the band. They really made the mainstream with the next disc, the US 3x platinum selling Empire, on the strength of their #1 single "Silent Lucidity". After one more platinum album, main co-writer Chris DeGarmo left the band and the music suffered for it. They still had some good stuff but harder rock fans were turned off by a more mellow(overall) sound led by singer Geoff Tate's writing style. To make an even longer story short. The band did what bands do, implode. Tate was fired, law suits flew and the band eventually re-formed with a new singer and a new attitude. Back is the edgier, original QR sound. The disc put out by this version of QR is very good three albums in.
My favorite line in a song is from a Queensryche song... Strange how laughter looks like crying with no sound. And rain drops taste like tears without the pain........
Their breakthrough album for mainstream is called “Empire “ it’s comparable to Metallica’s black album it was released in 1990 and it received a ton of airplay
there most popular and commercial success was Empire , but ive been a fan for years, seen them various times, saw opertion mindcrime 2 , they are beasts live and studio, but no one can say theyve ever seen a bad Queensryche concert ever. that being said, you guys really have to see Operation:Livecrime. its epic. nonstop rocking for more than an hour w/o a break. Geoff Tate is a rare talent that comes around once in a lifetime. Trust me on the Operation Livecrime, saw it in person Mind fkn blowing.
I had the privilege to see mindcrime 2 in California. One of two live performances where Dr. X Was voiced by Ronnie James Dio himself. Took stage and duetted with Geoff,on the track The chase . Omfg. I miss Ronnie, and the original queensryche line up. Sooooo many eargasmic experiences ago. R.I.P. Ronnie. You're missed. And remembered.
Their only mainstream songs are "Silent Lucidity" and "Jet City Woman". Queensryche isn't a "punch you in the face" type band but their music is a progressive Rock type vibe. They're very good at moody, dramatic songs. At least the old Queensrÿche was (this is part of their classic catalogue. "Empire" wasn't a bad album. They went a little more commercial on it but still maintained their vibe); I don't know about now. You should react to "Best I Can", the opener on "Empire." Great song.
Every song on this album just flows from one to another. The entire album is like listening to one long, fantastic song. Incredible, incomparable album.
I love that people are still discovering Queensryche. Geoff is just UNREAL. My favorite vocalist for 35 years!
The best
+ Kiske
I don't care what anyone says; this IS the Greatest Album ever recorded and must be listened to start to finish, uninterrupted.
FUCK YEAH, to each his own, who cares what they say! I got completely lost in it when it came out. 🤘😠🤘💥💥
Agreed 1000%!!!
Fully agree
A masterpiece!
Big facts.
This whole album is a masterpiece. It should be listened to from start to finish. Geoff Tate has one of THE most amazing voices I have ever heard. Excellent reaction.
They are a great band that was elevated to god tier by one of the all time great vocalists.
Bassist Eddie Jackson and Guitarist Michael Wilton (The one without the hat) Are the only original members left in Queensryche.
Empire! Is Anybody Listening .......... think for yourself and feel the walls become sand beneath your feet.
The Operation: Mindcrime album is the epitome of a band firing on all cylinders. A must-listen.
For sure a great band
And it was a twelve cylinder
'I remember now. I remember how it started. I can't remember yesterday. I just remember doing what they told me..."
Awesome!
You nailed it with that assessment a lot of talent in that band
For sure when me and several friends went to see Metallica and they opened we were all queensryche fans after that
One of the greatest albums ever made. Start to finish not a bad song on it
You can skip Mindcrime II though 😎
Mindcrime 2 has plenty of good songs on it. It gets a bad rap because of its title. Fans try to compare it to Mindcrime.
Mindcrime 2 is a bit hard to get into but it's kind of cool in it's own right. I like "I'm American" , "The Hands" and maybe a couple others.
@@Ilikeryche Agree with your songs, but Re-arrange You is the best song on the record IMO. Also love Hostage and Fear City Slide.
@@carlgibbons5777 I agree. Mindcrime II gets a bad rap. It does have a number of solid songs on it and I liked the continuation of Nikki's story as he plots his revenge on Doctor X.
I agree with you on Mindcrime II...don't know what happened there!
Geoff Tate with his 5 octave voice...always a great listen!! Love Queensryche!!
I saw this band twice when the original singer was in the band. Damn it was awesome.
Many of There songs are epic the band way ahead of there time there music never gets old, a lot of talent in this band.
I saw this tour in '91 in Dallas. The best show ever!
The best rock vocalist non gratis
The studio version is longer. The duel guitars of Michael Wilton and Chris DeGarmo outro is a beast.
Yep, so much missing and cut out in this one....
It's such a cool guitar outro
this song is mindblowingly good
Can't go wrong with Queensryche, so many great songs. One More Time is another great one as well as Empire.
Never ever would you get bored of this album. What a band.
They were their own... Absolute singular sound and feel..... They were part of what made metal great
👊😎
I'm 63 and I d remember this song... Great analysis, guys; you caught everything in the song and brought it out for inspection and discussion. Loved this, keep it up - you guys are gonna be BIG.🤘
One of my favorite bands of all-time. This album is a top ten classic. I would love a full album reaction 💀💀
Have to agree with you is a master piece
Seeing this live...from the 2nd row... is forever etched into my brain. Simply amazing.
I agree. Fantastic voice. Love the guitars. Whole album is dope. I brought the record. Sounds even better.
Entire album so good that it is difficult to actually have a favorite song, each chapter of the album a masterpiece.
My favorite song!!! Geoff’s voice!! 😍😍😍
I appreciate the way you guys reacted to the songs, I wish and hope that you keep doing reactions to 1980 for live in Tokyo concert
The greatest metal album ever 🤜
It does keep going, watch the long version!!! :P

I Don’t Believe In Love is another song worth your while to listen to
a melting pot of greatness - well said
I don't throw the whole "masterpiece" title around often, but this album really is.
🤘💜
@@jenx4115 I'm not even a super huge Queensryche fan, but I just adore this album. It's definitely in my top favorite albums ever list.
"Kill her"
"Kill Mary?!?"
" She's a risk. And get the priest as well"
Such a chilling exchange, really set the tone for the song.
Eddie Jackson can sing too. He's got pipes!
You need to hear Jet City Woman
Summed up the career for QR very well!
An absolutely beast of an album. Best concept album from song one until the end. Phenomenal band.
The undisputed best album ever!
Esta formación de queensryche fue asesina...
Excelente
You asked, so... Off their album Empire, the song Silent lucidity got a lot of radio play.
You really do have to listen to the whole album to appreciate how each track fits together to create one complete experience.
My favorite line in a song is from a Queensryche song... Strange how laughter looks like crying with no sound. And rain drops taste like tears without the pain........
Suite Sister Mary from this album, with the beautiful Pamela Moore singing the part of Mary…❤️❤️🤘🤘🤘
Their breakthrough album for mainstream is called “Empire “ it’s comparable to Metallica’s black album it was released in 1990 and it received a ton of airplay
Try the song "speak"!
One of the few albums I own on every format - vinyl, cassette, cd, vhs, and dvd.
there most popular and commercial success was Empire , but ive been a fan for years, seen them various times, saw opertion mindcrime 2 , they are beasts live and studio, but no one can say theyve ever seen a bad Queensryche concert ever. that being said, you guys really have to see Operation:Livecrime. its epic. nonstop rocking for more than an hour w/o a break.
This song connected the dots from all the other songs.
Yes. It is good to know the full album.
:)
