Have to disagree a little bit here with the premise of this video. These are all very higher level musical skills. Most children learn through imitation. This is actually a foundational part of learning. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with just mimicking tunes. If you do that well good for you. Typically with practice, then you later, internalize some of the principles. Imagine when you were a child learning a language, no one taught you the rules and the grammar of that language, yet you were still able to speak your native language grammatically correctly. All I’m trying to say is, don’t be harsh on yourself if you’re music student and you can’t meet all these criteria that have been listed in this video.
Probably she's not talking about the youngsters who are in their early phase of learning rather it is all about the individuals who have already spent a few years in learning music and whether they are right to be called as 'experienced' or not
Exactly!
What pratibhaji is telling is we should understand that these above categories should not be missed while learning music otherwise learning for years will not take a person to any self knowledge improvement which is very crucial part otherwise the person will only be able to reproduce not produce on his own.
Hello everyone !! My test score can be the following:
Pitch test - yes 100%
Random swaras - yes 70%
Different ragas - yes 100%
Alankara test - yes 90%
Song's notation test - yes 80%
But all these on a carnatic flute !! 😊❤
Someone who is at Sarali Varisai (1st speed) currently my reaction after watching this video was, “oh boy, oh boy!”. The only test that I passed without batting an eyelid was the first one, Pitch Test.
For the rest, it’s going to be a while. However, loved the way madam teaches, as always. A video to keep coming back to as and when the musical journey progresses and to test myself.
Excellent video! I feel more confident now after this assessment.
Lovely tutorial. It gives a clear insight into musical structure
You are a great teacher! Thank you 🍃
Very Informative! 👍
Very knowledgeable video..to all videos on your Vox guru channel 🙏🙏🙏🙏
An excellent lesson ❤
Thank you so much mam for your information and communication ❤
That was wonderful to listen to. I learned a lot, and found out I had an intuitive sense of Shruti. I also found out what a shruti is.
I didn't know what to expect on seeing the title, 'Are You a Good Musician?' So with much anticipation, I sat wondering if I would fail miserably or be the next John Lennon..
I was quite surprised at Question 1!
Most likely because I'm a bit slow, blind to the obvious and a bit English... I expected something to do with Western pop music. But... I loved watching your amazing teaching techniques and hearing your beautiful voice.
How did I score? It's a secret.
So interesting !!
V grear explanation and gives great encouragement
Excellent presentation. Waiting to see the solutions as well :)
Thanks, above all practice in that line shall be done too
50% yes.. Thank you for this self assessment test! Would like to improve my singing skills.
Mam superb explining to our understsanding.👏
You are amazing ma’am..🙏🙏🙏💕
Wow that was so fun and informative! I got all 5. I am familiar with these ragas. #5 Hamsa Dwani - I surprised myself. I saw your other video about how to find the notes of a song earlier. I identified the root Sa and then it came easily. I have been learning Carnatic music for 2 decades. I am interested in learning manodharma and identifying ragas with confidence 😅 Thank you 🙏
Nice teaching and technique
Hats ooff to you. This is what I have been seeking guidance for
Thank You So Much Mam
Lovely 👏🏻
Good analysis ma'am

Thank you very much mam 🙏.
It has been a shocking revelation to me that scored only 50% after learning carnatic for around 7 yrs😅 I did know that my teacher wasn't helping us learn in detail, but now I feel I shouldve got someone better to teach me! Wonderful test !
I passed only the first test after learning for a decade. 1st class to 10th grade😅
Cool..
Hats off❤
Only 50%!! Very interesting & informative program!!
5 NOs from me.
This is exactly what I was wondering always like how do singers identify the swaras of any part of a random song. Learning to sing in high pitch, hitting the right notes, catching the gamakas/brugas correctly can all be fine tuned by frequent listening/observing and imitating the particular song, but learning to identify the swarasthanas accurately is a nightmare and have no clue how could it be learnt at all
Lol I’m just starting despite my family having musical background. Still I fumble at times. @Prathiba please see this
Thanks much ❤
Very good question 👌👌👌🎤🎹
1,2,3,4 yes but not in the 1st attempt 2nd or 3rd, but i know I can do it and 5 no, I should learn it and I will...
1;2;3 I’m Good at , 4-5 is alerts and I need to work more for this. Very good 👍 assessment exercise ❤
Thank u Madam🙏🙏

I am a senior citizen interested in Music . So singing is as I listen and repeat for my own satisfaction
Surprisingly I could get 3 questions okin multiple attempts
Raga changing for one set of swaras I failed
Thank you mam

I Don't have .yet .
Thanks for sharing ❤ really Grateful.... Need prays 🤲🙏
Really true.
Well that, was humbling.
I started watching this video thinking that this is a test for music skills.. But I soon realized that this is a test for Carnatic music skills, and not music in general.
My test for good music skills is very simple: can you precisely reproduce any tune that you hear (within your physical vocal range limitations)?
Of course, if that's the first time you hear that tune, there's an extra burden of memorizing it. But as long as you can reproduce that in pieces, let's say, three seconds at a time, you are still good.
This is not applicable only for Carnatic music. It is for any form of Indian music including light music. Intuitively reproducing a tune may work in a few cases, but often we don’t get the full clarity in each note especially with very challenging songs. Hence these skills help in a better understanding of how the song is made and what all nuances need to be reproduced.
thanq u lot of u maam

1st one yes i can
2nd one i can to a greater extent if i know that raga

Very good video...can identify where we stand in our musical journey... It would be great if you could do a video on singing "AAKAR" if swaras. I find it very difficult to sing the AAKAR on avarohan.. Specially in transiting from "P M G R"
Start 3 yes rest 2 no (I am a western singer so i the last one was very new for me even though I am not introduced to raas much but i was able to sing them)

Wonderful test. 👍
Yes to shruthi, like say- 75%?
50% marks in rest of the parameters. .
I learnt music for a decade. Learnt alankaram, geetham, varanam (almost 10-12 raagas) and 4 Thyagaraja kritis. And i have passed only the first step. Now, i understood i was only an imitator/singer rather than a musician. Never leant music as such. All i did was to learn to copy whatever the teacher taught. I feel very embarrassed at my own self.
Don't feel disheartened! Knowing where you stand is the first step towards progress. Feel free to reach out to us if you want further guidance in your musical journey.
Sorry i dont have it
