I am 70 years old and I am learning singing from teachers who are 20 to 30 years old. I I dont feel embarrassed at all to learn from them. In fact they think that it is very inspiring that I wish to learn at this age. I am revising the basics of Piano and Guitar too which I had learned several years ago. I have downloaded your Voxguru app and subscribed to your Courses for Universal Voice culture and Ear Training Basics. I firmly believe that your are never too old to set a new goal or dream a new dream.

@@shanmugamsubramaniam8652 I am so happy to hear this. I also started learning the guitar after I crossed 60 and even gave 2 grades of Trinity College Exams. I am back to Guitar and Piano again thanks to Front Row with whom I am doing several courses simultaneously, online. They have some great teachers, all less than half my age. 😀

I'm a university student , 20 years old. I always loved music but never could I learn it in my childhood. Now, I'm quite an introvert and many of my classmates and in hostel they don't talk to me that much, so I will learn music to cope up with my loneliness. I may get successfull by 2025, and it's my dream to sing a song every time when it rains

I've been following VoxGuru, in particular, Pratibha's videos here on TH-cam since the end of 2019 and early 2020. All I can say I it was one of my tipping points to actually start learn singing properly at the beginning of 2020 at age 25. I started from the very beginning with sarali varisai. Yes, it was extremely dry learning the basics and I did doubt myself many times on whether I made the right decision and whether it was worth my time. I thought about this a lot during the Covid-19 lockdown in 2020 where classes stopped for a little while. I can definitely confirm it was and is still completely worth it. I am still training my voice as it is still premature. But each swara exercise and each song you learn definitely builds on each other. But for it to work, consistent practice is a must. (full disclosure, I do struggle with inconsistent practice. But I am getting better at this). The worst thing to do is to compare yourself to other students. Remember, you are on your own musical journey.

I’m 66, started to learn swaras about three months ago; half an hour a day. Rarely missed a session, as it’s 30 minutes that I really look forward to (“my time”). My wife and I started a new company three years ago so we are extremely busy, but the music time is a precious oasis of time and space. I don’t think of an end goal, just love the process. Having a super supportive family also helps greatly.

Again, the best singing video I've seen TH-cam.
A Zen story answers this, in my opinion, better. The Sixth? Zen Patriarch needed to pass his reign, and his school's First Abbot wrote on a wall..... "The mind is like a mirror, polish it diligently, and it will shine brightly." Next day, the Sixth Patriach reviewed, and said, this is good, but not good enough to be the Seventh Patriarch. A stable hand who thought he knew a bit about Zen, next day wrote something like.... "The mind innately shines brilliantly, what need is there to polish? Rid the obstructions, it's to let the light show through." (something like this).
My interpretation is most people's voices are already brilliant-- it's not "singing practice" that will release these. My view is posture changes will foremost help the aged novice to regain his or her brilliant voice. Of course, the catch is, it takes a lot to restore posture as well.

For older people, the goal will never be to take it up as a career. It must be something else.
For me it was the ability to sing kritis. I wanted to sing all the devotional songs I like. That is the reason so I am not intimidated by the time frame because my teacher teaches me great Krishna songs and bhajans along the way. I also learn pasurams on my own.
So be excited about the possibility than be intimidated by the time period.

I learnt to play a rubbish guitar as an adult in 1984. I didn't improve for 15 years as I was spending time Skiing and sailing. I got a much better guitar in the late 90's and my playing improved. My voice also improved over the years.
3 Years ago, in different circumstances, when I could no longer Ski or Sail as I once did, I returned to music.
The 3 guitars I owned then have 4 new brothers. There are Multiple keyboards attached to Midi and VST synths. Including a set of Roland PK5 Bass pedals. I've learnt tuned percussion, classical songs, been busking. And have written a few things that have surprised and pleased a few people.
I can't ski like I used to, but I can rock out so much better. And as someone once said
"Every time I think, I'm going to solve one musical riddle, 10 more pop up. "
So even a passing interest, can turn into a healthy passtime in later life. I'm now teaching Guitar and learning from that. Music is almost as good as Skiing was.

Yes I am learning from Voxguru. Its little tougher to memorise the varisais with talam. Its little embracing to practice in front of others. I do practice for 20 minutes and start singing movie songs for half an hour as my passion drives like music teachers start telling their students to sing devotional songs after their lessons. Now I got to understand that I should not rush to complete the varisais faster. Thank you Voxguru.

I absolutely love my class, my teacher and practice sessions and the time when I ‘graduated’ from Sangeetha Bala Padam- book 1 to book-2 was so exciting for me 😁 I had never been so thrilled to open a new textbook before 😊😊 I don’t think about where I am going with this or whether or not I will do a concert…I just enjoy every little thing I learn from my teacher 😊❤️
Thanks so much, Pratibha ma’am for yet another motivating and informative video!! 😊🙏

Madam, I started learning to sing and also play the guitar (Western Music) at the age of 52. Now I am 65 and still learning and enjoying myself. Great stress buster and an occupying hobby. I have my own TH-cam channel with more than 275 uploads. Of late thanks to my wife and Smule I have started singing hindi filmy songs (and also a lot of Tamil songs since I spent my firsyt 16 years there). Proud to say that I can even read and write music. I have even composed my own song but that still needs improvement. I find your channel interesting and in an easy to follow manner that is enjoyable. Please keep it up. God Bless you

Hey all, I am 29 now and started learning music (Carnatic Signing). Just started with basics, there is passion to drive me further. It does seems difficult, sometimes challenging, brain gets frustrated when I can't find the right pitch or sing out of Shruti or scare my teacher away in class.. No matter what happens, giving up in not an option. I enjoy the learning process, I am confident one day I will sing well. My teacher says 'get comfortable to get uncomfortable'. That's right, don't feel shy to make mistakes, don't feel embarrassed to learn basics, to get advice from people younger than you but tells you you're wrong and how to correct.. Take it and learn. My teacher is way younger than me yet he's awesome teacher. Don't shy to get out of your comfort zone. In time you will get there, and when you look back you will be proud of yourself one day. One thing to keep in mind for new adult learners is PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!! When I practice regularly, I see the changes in learning and my teacher appreciates my progress. Its NEVER TOO LATE!!! :D :D

Hello Madam ,I have been interested in music since I was a child but I keep coming up with a thoughts as to whether I can able to learn music enough. That's when I saw your youtube channel Now I have a self confidence I am no longer going to train.......Thank you so much.....am 18 years old now

Thanks Pratibha. I'm grateful that you answered this question : whether adults can learn music. Your parents enrolled you in a Carnatic vocal singing course. My parents did this too. With my strong powerful voice, they felt I had potential to train further and perform. Then an incident changed the direction of events. Years later, another much younger family member told me not to sing. By taking it seriously, I left music altogether. Even stopped listening to it. In me, however, is a thought that I'm losing out on using a talent that was given to me. I'm much older now, Pratibha. I'm practicing Carnatic music (vocal) with the humble wish to accomplish it. My humble thanks. You deserve great appreciation. Many others may also have been dissuaded.
    🙏 🇮🇳
I find today's 'trending' music utterly flat. That too may have reinforced my wish to sing and to appreciate classical music again.
    All the best.

I like to share one thing which some may think irrelevant. When I used to read sanskrit sentences and slokas aloud [just to improve my reading ability then] I noticed that instead of my sanskrit [or along with sanskrit] my voice improved faster. No phlegm. I could feel air travelling through the passage from throat to chest.
