All these new products and future directions are great, but it's not only about new products. Tesla needs to keep the current customer base operational. I am a Tesla solar panel system owner (2019/15KwH) and my system has not been fully operational since January. I have had 3 inverter failures (same error requiring inverter replacement), and each failure take 4 plus months to get a replacement, and then those replacements fail. Tesla has the ability to make my system fully functional, but they have made a conscious decision not to take action. I can only guess that cost is preventing them from executing. Post sale customer support has been less than adequate. My system outage is only one of the problems. There have been many other incidents with customer support that would surely play a big role in a buy decision. I still have no idea when they plan to bring my system back to capacity. Great products have to work and continue to work. (Note: I also own 2 Tesla vehicles, so I am not trying to bash the company, I am just dissatisfied that my system does not work and they are not taking responsible actions to rectify.)

The integrity of the other components are unknown. This is both my opinion and Tesla. They have offered to do a complete evaluation of all components once the replacement inverter is received. I am fairly confident that other issues will be uncovered.

I advocate for distributed (decentralized) energy production to replace the monopoly utilities. It's only logical because it's cheaper, freedom enhancing, and much more dependable. I wouldn't connect to the grid unless it was worth it and disconnection was easy. Next, I would work on finding a healthy food source, decentralized (local). Commercial farming is unsustainable, destroys the soil fertility, contaminates the produce, and nutrition is poor. I buy from small producers who use non-traditional, natural, soil enhancing, healthy foods.

Want to go to the moon...we did that. With that said, the sun provides enough energy to power the globe for a year....in a single day...we just can't harness it. Mankind also has an issue with greed. There's no reason that we couldn't tackle this in a decade or 2 with the proper focus. It doesn't pay to get free energy......

I was all set to place an order for a 12.1 kWh system with 2 Power Walls until I read the little note at the bottom of the summary "We will notify you when available in your area". I live in SE Illinois 20 miles SE of St Lous. So I found and used an address in St Louis and No Problem. I requested a callback and two weeks later I received a call confirming they don't have installers in my area. When I pointed Tesla has installers 20 miles to the west of me in St Louis, and the only roadblock had to be licensing etc. So I'm going with a company from St Louis (Straight Up Solar) who spec'd a similar system using Q Cell 405-watt panels but I get Enphase IQ8A Inverters vs a "string" inverter Tesla uses. During my conversation with my Project Manager, I was told Tesla uses the same panels and here's the kicker, they are authorized Tesla Power Wall installers. So Tesla come on, get your stuff together. Either way, I'll be happy, but being a Tesla owner and shareholder I wanted a "Tesla" system and was willing to write a check for $48K on the spot.

Parking lots take up 25 to 35% and sometimes more of a citys land area and solar can take up 5 to 15% of space so why not fill Parking lots with solar.
Or have a mix of very tall shade trees and solar in a way the solar gets lots of sun not shade so that will take up 15 to 20% of the space in parking lots.
Well way more energy less flooding less heat less heavy metals in the air and more o2.

USA has 300million vehicles and 300million buildings, with rooftop for solar, and the grid is perfect as it is, almost.
So the dispersed solar energy captured from the dispersed ends of the grid and which in the past has caused a power surge, a spiking of power during the day with only a few rooftop solar power systems, this daily energy can now be absorbed in all the new EV big batteries.
As every expert has been saying the battery is the 'killer' to the 'horse and cart' days.
Nobody realised the everyday car in huge numbers would save the energy grids of the world.
    And save the planet.

Tesla Solar has made great progress in not only their Solar Panels but in the important part of the system, the storage, charge controller, and distribution (i.e., inverter package) in one tuned unit called the “Mega Pack”. I installed my solar system at my Arizona Ranch in 1993 which had many times less capability and capacity than Tesla system(s) do. Great strides in that area of consideration has been made. It is indeed a solution such as I had with a Ranch in an area that the grid did and would not cover.

In Australia a 6.6kw rooftop solar PV system costs as little as AUD$3,600.
Some subsidies but a very simplified paperwork process and the fossil fuel industry has had subsidies for decades.
And still charges AUD$0.30/kWh plus connection costs, at AUD$1.00/day.
The more rooftop solar the less central power plants rebuilds.
Central power plants need big government involvement and are a big impact on the state and national budgets.
Rooftop solar is owned by the home owner and maintained by them.
Rooftop unloads the grid, and unloads the government budgets.

Around mid decade, Tesla will build 3 or more hyper-efficient Giga-factories. One to build semiconductors including solar panels and LED's; one to build Optimus Prime; and one partnering with Elon's Brother Kimal to build LED based indoor farming containers. Then Tesla will partner with farmers, whose land will become multi-use. Tesla will use Optimus Prime to cover the Farmers' fields with Solar and Wind Power, and Mega-Packs. The same land will be used for Managed grazing of meat animals. In one area of the Farm, Tesla will build a giant indoor food production building which will be powered by Optimus and their LED lights tailored to shine with the exact frequencies that the plants need to grow. There will be giant ponds growing fish and using the nutrients from those fish ponds to fertilize the plants. This building will be 100% powered by the energy coming from the solar, wind, and battery installations and will run 24/7/365. The farmer will become a Tesla employee with a guaranteed income exceeding the income they made as a farmer. The efficiency of the solar to LED light conversion will be so much more efficient that current farming techniques that the same farm will produce 100 times as much food using 1% of the inputs it needed using traditional farming. Those inputs include water and fertilizer. This will launch the S-curve of the transition to sustainable farming.

Just to say about the quick dismissal of residental installation potential contribution to the overall supply of solar in relation to mega-projects.
That 22,000 sq mile estimate is only about double a rough estimate of single family rooftop area. Add in multiplexes, commercial, & neighborhood scaled instillations to the total available rooftop installation & the system is distributed for safety & efficiencies. Distributed systems like this democratized availability.
Waiting on Tesla to announce a doubling every year for production.

TESLA, & other solar companies, should not only be looking at putting solar panel on every buildings roof (although that is fantastic), but ALSO at large scale solar farms that DON'T require huge amounts of land, but instead FLOAT on water! As you said in the video, the entire USA could be powered with solar panels the size of just one lake! If you floated them instead on reservoirs of drinking water, which are near every population centre, then it could provide ALL of the local electricity, without electricity being lost via cable resistance over long distances, AND it would massively reduce water loss to evaporation & so at the same time reduce droughts! And in addition, the water would cool the solar panels which makes them run more efficiently. It's a win win win! FLOATING solar farms, along with large scale batteries, near every city to LOCALLY produce 100% of energy needs with zero emissions, zero noise, and solar (unlike wind farms) has zero moving parts so lasts more than twice as long, and is nearly invisible when floating on the waters surface! How has TESLA not already cottoned on to this?
Additionally, given that perovskite solar panels have been developed, & PROVEN in labs, which have now have a life expectancy of 30 years, with a much higher potential efficiency for converting sunlight into electricity (silicon is capped at around 30% with perovskite able to make use of a MUCH bigger light band), whilst also being much cheaper to make; why is there no word from TESLA, or other large scale solar companies, on large scale perovskite developments/projects?

Only what you sell to your neighbours. Local battery storage is an effective compromise, but the best solution is to make the distribution an entirely separate company which bills you a flat rate that covers their costs, then a government entity manages the generation needed to sustain the grid with bidding, pays the generators andvbills you for the energy.

We have a $15 monthly "line fee" plus rent on their "Net Meter" and low buy back rate. So, I'm going to disconnect completely, use a small Back-up propane generator to recharge the batteries (for emergencies).
      Screw their fees.
