      My youngest stepdaughter got her license at 16 and wanted to go visit her friends in my 85 Impala but before I let her drive off I made her change a tire on the car and she was smoking mad at me. I haft expected her to burn rubber leaving but she didn’t, point her! About 10 years ago she called me out the blue and said thanks for doing that. She is married but also very independent in a good way. I always told her when she got married to marry someone because of love and not because of necessity. She is 44 now and I am quite proud of all her accomplishments!

    After being quoted $120 estimate to get my mower working again after the winter, I decided to do it myself. With your video and about $35 in parts, I replaced the carburetor, plug and air filter and the mower cranked on the third pull. I'm so tempted to call the mower repair shop and thank them for motivating me to do this myself. Much appreciate you posting this.

    This was great! I have an older B&S model but very similar; the main difference being that there is only one linkage to the carb, not two. Took the carb off, paid $30 at a mower shop to have it cleaned so I wouldn’t have to deal with all that, and all works like new.

    Good video. However, it is important to note that you may need the lever choke if your mower has this. The video shows that there is one on the existing and the new carburetor. However, if you buy even an proper OEM one, it may not come with the lever. Every single one I have found online does not state that it comes or does not come with it. And, all of the pictures do not show it on the carburetor.
    There are two possible part numbers: 594058 and 799584. Based on everything I have found, these are the same. My mower's engine serial number matches up with Mfg. No: 104M02-0001-F1 according to Briggs & Stratton. Within their published parts manual, the carburetor is part number 594058. In the drawings, it specifically shows that the choke lever is not included with the carburetor and that is a separate part. Their part manual states that the part number for it is 591104.
    If you have these lever on your existing carburetor then you can try to take it off and put it on the new one or just buy a new choke lever.

  • @ImMrBridge

    Just a FYI. That red Oring that came with the new carburetor goes behind the adapter behind the metal mounting brackets, not in front of the adapter where the carburetor connects to.

    I assume that the o-ring and retainer are in the new carburetor, correct.

    I followed these instructions and the new carb leaked gas out the I take like mad. Does this mean that new carb is faulty?
    Strangely enough when I reinstalled the old carb my mower started running again, so I guess these instructions worked even if the new carb didn’t.

  • @robertcockrum3610
    @robertcockrum3610 7 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    This video is faulty in that it doesn't explain that the replacement carburetor does not come with a choke lever. The old choke lever has to be pried off the old one. There is a video alone about installing a new choke lever. So be prepared to re-use the old one ... or order a new choke lever with the new carburetor.

    • @jondrayna6978
      @jondrayna6978 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you Robert! I was baffled by that. What comes out of the box at 2:31 is NOT what is later bolted on to the machine. Another part mysteriously appears, first visible at 3:01. I assume that's the choke lever.

    I found that most of the problems with these cheap china carb is the needle/seat is not setting right. A simple adjustment to the needle via shim where it sits in the float works well. The float needs to sit at a very flight angle up and NOT flat as mine was.

    Question: What's the "official, full, correct and complete name and OEM Briggs and Stratton part number," of the item in this video that's just behind the carburetor mounting bracket, which you refer to, as the "adapter," as shown in the hands of the repair man, beginning at the 2:05 min. mark of the video . . . for a Toro Model 21321 Recycler 21-in Gas Self-propelled Lawn Mower with 140-cc Briggs and Stratton engine, which I am planning to purchase?
    Thanks, in advance.

  • @getx1265
    @getx1265 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Not quite as easy as the video shows when performing on an old, used mower, but after struggling along and re checking the video several times, it all went back together with no missing parts. Although, the carb kit had a wrong size fuel tube, so be careful as you pry it off each end, in case yours is the wrong size. At 2:43 there are no parts like on my machine.. a white plastic ring and a black o-ring that go together on the adapter after inserting it through the mounting bracket. Anyway, the hardest part was finding what type screw head the blower housing cover had as it was encased in gunk way down the hole. Needed a * driver. smh And, of course the gas tank does not just slide up and off. There's some type unseen latch that catches it, and I didn't feel like tearing up something, so was able to shift it over enough to perform the deeds. Without the helpful video, I couldn't have done it. Thank you! The mower, unbelievably, actually started on the very FIRST pull!!

      I was thinking to do the carb kit first. I can replace the carb for $34, but I got the exploded diagram of the carb from Stratten. I will try to order the carb kit directly from Stratten, but if have a better suggestion, please let me know.
