Mud and a few blow downs, but you powered through! I like your hiker philosophy shared by all who hike: nothing more comforting than "rain you are not in!" Hike on! Tortoise
The Buckeye trail on the south is pretty good. Only a couple places that stay really muddy. The horse trails on the north side are always really muddy. About 10 years ago, the trails were bulldozed and some of the Buckeye was rerouted because of that. The muddy sections are where they went straight downhill into a gulley where the buckeye trail was built to go around them and stay dry. Hopefully, we can get those trails rebuilt to go around the bad sections.
Fredericksburg, Texas is one of my favorite spots in Texas. We lived in Houston, Texas for thrity years and took a few trips to that area and Enchanted Rock park. Thanks for sharing.
My grandparents used to have a house in the historical district of Fredericksburg. So I grew up visiting them there. They still live there a bit further out, but the town has changed from what it used to be.
I really do enjoy your willingness to actually hike the trail.
Muddy one ! 😃 Well , keep on keeping it on ! Big thanks to all the trailangels taking care of the ADT hikers.

What a way to see our country
Only thing cuter than a miniature horse? A BABY miniature horse.
So glad your finding refuge from some kind folks. Stay safe, and thanks for taking us long
Wow Matt, that trail was awful! I hope you were able to have a peaceful night.
Take care and stay safe. God bless
Lil' Sebastian!
Hey Matt. Hope that next day you can find a good bit of shelter!
Nice new roof and paint a year and a half ago on Shelter 2. 12:00 The shelters are close to roads and get a lot of local use.
I've wanted to check out East Fork. I wonder if it dries out by the fall. How did it compare overall to other forested sections of the buckeye?

Those miniature horses were so beautiful
Day 51. Rain certainly greens everything up.
Thanks, a good day. ✌🏻👊🏼
Now that looked muddy on camera, hope you're ok after the fall. Hike on to San Francisco.

Relentlessly onward !
(How do you do it?)
I wonder what Ernest Hemingway would say about hiking. In the rain.
Looked like a wonderful place to be a tick.
This section of trail needs a good bit of maintenance. I don't know which is worse the tall wet tick infested grass or the mud. 😎✌
Those AT folks wouldn't charge $100/night if hikers weren't willing to pay it. Supply and demand, baby!

Love it! Saw that Trump sign! Trump 2024! ❤ Keep up the good work Matt.
