I've been watching these along with the Mississippi River trip from last year this week. Folks, if you haven't seen last year's canoe trip videos, it's a great companion to these. It's hot, it's tough, but it's an adventure. Seeing the Mississippi River Valley across two summers is cool.
I look forward to your videos so much. And I just want to say how much I appreciate that, with few exceptions, there’s one to look forward to every single day! Stay cool out there.
You have done so much thru hiking , that’s amazing , I’ve never heard of this trail America Discovery Trail I’m completely fascinated by this kind of content and just had to say it’s really remarkable how much thru hiking u have done in 4 years 👏✌️
I will never forget driving through St Louis going into a Kentucky fried chicken and seeing bullet proof glass over the counter and the slot they would send your food through. Across the street they had a Mc Donalds full of plain clothes police and this was 25 years ago.
I’ll never forget when I staying in a hotel it St Louis I went across the street to a liquor store and it wasn’t a walk in store it was just a walk up glass window with metal bars and slot. I asked the man behind the window for a six pack he comes back with a twelve pack he says we’re out of regular six packs, takes out a machete cuts the twelve pack in half and hands it out to me! Never seen anything like it before and not since 😅
An NO Pizza - that Hunt Brothers Pizza is everywhere here in TN and Kentucky. Also, sometimes when you say Tater's I start signing the South Park intro song....🤣
When you roll through St Louis you HAVE to divert to City Museum, it's absolutely wild. 10 story slide, crawling through a dragon cave, BBQ, Beer, it's extremely special, worthwhile, and memorable.
You did do the entire route of the old R2R. They moved the official start to Elisabethtown a few years ago. You didn’t miss much , my least favorite section of the trail
No, never occurred to me. Jen’s hat is all mesh up there so I don’t think it would be much of an advantage. Also it seems like the visors would be more problematic in some of the wind
About 2AM I was solo night hiking on the AT when I saw something reflecting up ahead. Being groggy from a long day and not enough sleep my first thought was someone is camped near the trail and its a piece of gear reflecting. Then I realized it was moving so I thought it must be another night hiker. When it got close enough to tell I was seeing eyes coming towards me and it wasn't stopping the hair on my arms and neck stood up. I started banging my trekking poles, it hesitated for a few seconds staring at me before heading off into the woods. Those few seconds seemed like minutes while I strained my eyes trying to figure out if it was a bear, deer or bigfoot 🤣. I cautiously approached the spot where it disappeared into the trees hoping to get a glimpse of the mystery creature but it was gone. 😎✌
I’ve come around a corner after dark and come face to face with a giant reflective eyed demon which scared the ever living crap out of me. It was a cow
The material ventilates pretty well so it doesn’t make much of a difference heat wise. The main priority though is sun protection. Umbrella protects our face but not always the back of the neck so hood just adds extra insurance against the sun

9:41 unexpectedly heartfelt. And lol@the taters for scale pic
LOVING the marvel post credit scenes🙌🏻🙌🏻
Beautiful foggy morning, lovely sunset and frogs at night. I think I've become addicted to your videos.
I don't know wby, but the wheeee across thr screen just cracked me up 😂

Last year the water was low enough to walk to tower rock, it was fairly popular for a short period of time until the water level rose again.

Thanks! I’ve always been told I have an issue with moderation… :)
Thanks, another great day. ✌🏻👊🏼

Beautiful spot, beautiful morning!
Hope you guys can catch up some sleep and coffee tomorrow . Keep on trekking .
Tators is definitely your best audience. LOL
Oh wow, please take good care of yourselves. I hope you are somewhere cool now. Thanks.
11:44 Were the keywords for that pic, "tators baking in a cornfield"?
Great going guys (mileage wise).
So is it impossible to do the American Discovery Trail w/o stealth camping the majority of it?
It is impossible to do the American discovery Trail while only camping legally. So it just depends on your tolerance for stealth camping.
I think I've figured out why Jen will go ahead of you sometimes - it's so her body can rest from all the laughing she does when she's closer to you.
We do tend to make better time when hiking separate. She’s not the best at keeping a pace while laughing… :)

Sadly one day too late. That does look awesome
@@FirstChurchofTheMasochistHikes Glad you made it thru East St Louis okay. When I saw the trail went over the Eads bridge, I was a little worried.
You did do the entire route of the old R2R. They moved the official start to Elisabethtown a few years ago. You didn’t miss much , my least favorite section of the trail
That’s good to know. It would have just been to get the official patch which would honestly just sit in a box somewhere
Children of the Corn! (Scary old movie.) Surprised that in that heat, it isn't popcorn. Smart hiking when it is (a little) cooler. Hike on! Tortoise
Hey Y'all. Take as much care possible to not melt down.
Life lesson...Opposites attract.
Day 81 watch. Broken up in segments. Shower, watch, lunch, watch, hang with wife, watch. Night hike. Good idea.
how long is this levee trail? it would be a great bikepacking route
I don’t think it’s a levee trail so much as just an accessible levee road. Not sure how far you could get on it
Have you guys thought of wearing visors instead of hats to allow the tops of ur heads to vent the heat from ur body more effectively?
No, never occurred to me. Jen’s hat is all mesh up there so I don’t think it would be much of an advantage. Also it seems like the visors would be more problematic in some of the wind
I have thought the same thing… my head would be so hot in Matt’s hat and the orange bandana?
The top of your scalp would burn! Hard place to put sun block!

Just curious, why do you wear a hood while under your umbrella? That would seem hotter to me and not allow ventilation for your head.
The material ventilates pretty well so it doesn’t make much of a difference heat wise. The main priority though is sun protection. Umbrella protects our face but not always the back of the neck so hood just adds extra insurance against the sun
When you and Jenn come back to hike Hocking Hills, do the R2R trail portion she didn't get to do........
