Some pilots: with slick tyres we will arrive at the and of the race surely. Other pilots: with Intermediate tyres we will anticipate all the pilots in front of us. Gasly: YES MAN, FULL WET!!! DEAL WITH IT!!!!!
Bears Beets is right, the place was flooded only 10 minutes after the race finished. If that happened in the race Gasly would've won the race while everyone else was sliding around trying to reach the pitlane in slicks
Bears Beets No he wouldn't.. Even if it started rainning properly, the inters would be much faster than full wets. The track must already be wet for the wets to be considered as a choise, which means it has to rain a lot and it has to rain for a long time, which obviously wasn't the case.
Alumnikiid There's a difference between letting faster teammate pass, so you don't slow him down and making faster driver go slower, so he doesn't get more points than the slower one...
I feel bad for Leclerc, Alonso and Gasly who get screwed by their team... ... ... They finish after Vandoorme, that's how bad it is ... Vandoorme can say to Alonso : "No need to rush, you need to pit on point" !
''screwed by the team''. I think that in the end that it comes down to the driver who makes the call to switch to inters and not the team, cause the driver is out there, feels the track condition. If the driver isn't making that call then i'd say it is a short-coming on the drivers end. They should have the balls to say ''its too early. i'll stay out for another lap or 2''
It absolutely does... but unfortunately there's no way to stop it. Even in the days when "TO" were officially banned, one driver just locks a brake and overcooks it into a given corner and the teammate slips through.
luis _ brooo your broken Ferraris team orders are to make Kimi stay out ruin his race and not care. merc left botas have a go for a bit and thought about the team. If they touched it would have killed the race for them. They made the dicition because the don't want what happend in Spain 2016. Ferrari throw there second driver under the bus. And also merc apologised for it they care about there drivers.
Am I the only one who feels really really disgusted whenever team orders are given in a race? (Whether it's to give up a position or to hold position). It annoys me so much as a F1 spectator. 1- Let Kimi defend his 1st place against Vettel dammit 2- Let Bottas fight for the victory with Hamilton dammit **UGH**
theyearofthenine bro I know as a fan sitting at home it's annoying but for the point of view from the Mercedes people that's the smartest decision since Hamilton is the one competing for the championship and a win give them a good leverage you get me? I know it's frustrating Bottas deserved the Win but yeah I understand the team orders
they didn't let bottas overtake Hamilton cuz remember what happened with Verstappen and Riccardo? the team made sure no driver would take each other out, therefore throwing out valuable points out of the window for no reason.
I have tremendous respect for Bottas. Not only has he kept his head up this season through all the bad luck, but his team gives him orders to hold position and he follows orders without hesitation. Although i do agree these team orders are stupid! Let Bottas fight!
Fight for what Bottas is way behind in points. They used to let lewis and rosberg fight when they were both in contention for championship and half the time it would end up in a crash
same time (middle season), the same in their own country 💔😭, the same as ferrari car F1 is superior to redbull F1 & mercedes F1 💔😭 + this incident after verstappen pitstop (2022) & after hamilton pitstop (2018) 😁
@@alvaroolavarria1832 Yeah, it wasn't completely his fault either. His front left wing was damaged which lost him a lot of front left grip which led to the lockup and crash.
I never felt sad for Vettel...he used to be so arrogant when he was winning in the redbull. Do you recall him banging his car against hamilton's in Russia 2017? It was out of spite for hamilton. KARMA is never late...
Midfield teams are good for the midfield fights. You never know who will end best positioned between Renault, Force India, Sauber or Haas. They have been giving a real show in this first part of the season. Also, you can't put them all in the same level as the top 2 or 3. Bugdet-wise there are light-years of difference.
Can't blame Vettel. - Home race - Track Record Q3?! Sure, he probably had some pressure on his shoulders, but man oh man, that rain was the last thing he needed.
Sam Stark Vettel was not a cry baby at all in this incident. Being upset over your own mistake that you take account for is not what everyone means when they say “cry baby”. They mean that the driver moans and complains or mopes and dwells and blames other factors. The way Vettel handled his crash was incredibly professional (regardless of how upset he was on the radio. He was upset about HIS mistake and apologised to the team for it). Vettel has matured significantly since his red bull days. Hamilton is yet to reach that level of maturity even though he may have improved.
@@Akniy - @patrick fox you guys are seriously defending these team orders it ruins all of the excitement while watching races. you should work for a beatifull overtake, not get it handed to you.
Gotta appreciate the Hamilton vs Vettel battles while they last. Sporting rivals pushing each other to be the very best, just like Messi vs Ronaldo and Federer vs Nadal
Footballers who don't challenge themselves, they fail miserably. We all saw the talent in many, many young players, but they all failed to grow to match their title of "next Messi" or "next Ronaldo". That's simply because they lack training, lack determination and focus too much on partying and enjoying their wealth.
Yeah that's why messi has won nothing with Argentina and hasn't won a european trophy for the past few years while Ronaldo has won the Euro 2016 and three champions league in a row. Messi fails in every team outside Barcelona, one trick pony.
yea unfortunately the top 2 teams are too close in points that many team order is coming in the future to protect manufacturer points. If it is 2015-17 then Merc will let driver race and wreck or do whatever.
Kimi was near one second per lap slower than Seb when Ferrari told them to swap positions. It was just minimising the risk of them colliding during the fight - Seb would overtake Kimi the following lap. It's a different situation with Hamilton and Bottas - Merc had one-two at the moment and Lewis was looking quite afraid of speed when the race restarted. We saw that after one lap he was faster than Bottas, he was the fastest car btw. Fighting teammate in their situation (1-2, damp track) would be dangerous for them - they probably thought it would have ended like Verstappen and Ricciardo in Baku this year. Or like Hamilton and Rosberg in Spain. They had too much to lose, especially when their (Merc's and Hamilton's) greatest rivals (both Ferrari and Vettel) in championships lost a lot of points. And the most important thing - both Kimi and Valtteri are 2nd drivers in their teams. If they have to sacrifice themselves for their leader, they will simply do that. It's sad, I would like them to win at least one race this year - Valtteri was extremely unlucky this year (Baku for example), Kimi always needs 'just a bit more' to win a race, to have a pole. At least he looks cool wearing sunglasses at the podium :D
William Adu I agree with you, but, with vettel not making points on this race, I think that the team did not need to interfere on that, just let the best win...
Cy-GoR ! You’re right! I just feel bad for the guy, he has been nothing but an excellent driver and he hasn’t been the luckiest, so, you know, it would be good for him to have a Win! I’m saying all that stuff as a Valtteri’s fan, do not take it serious, LOL!
Vick JR hang on a minute, if we're talking about giving driver of the day for people's mistakes then surely vettel should get it for crashing out of the lead on his own
There's been a lot of vitriol spewed about team orders... every team uses them. It's not that long ago that Red Bull did (remember Multi-21?). It's disappointing for us as fans, but every team does it.
It's actually the other way around, wtf are you talking about? 😂 Look at all the comments about Mercedes' team order but not a single one about Ferrari's. I fucking love tifosi about their hypocricy lmao.
David Fernandez Well Kimi was in front and had to let pass vettel, when Hamilton was in Front of Bottas who tried to overtake and didn’t manage. So the team told him to hold on position. So they wouldn’t crash both cars with 8 laps left. Can’t even compare the situations. Plus hamilton was faster than bottas
Some people still don't understand how much important and influent this title race between lewis and seb was.Who would have won the championship that year would have got the launch for reaching Micheal record...
This was the race which broke Vettel. Never been the same driver since. Shows how much this sport commands your mental strength, its not about skill or physical strength so much.
Red Bull can't get a break it seems. When Max wins or get's a podium, Ricciardo's car bites the dust, or vice versa. Can't wait till they get rid of the Renault engines.
Yet Renault doesn't have these problems, nor do other Renault customer teams. I bet its similiar to McLaren using Honda, they run the engine at & over the limits, basically their own fault.
Blue Monkey but Renault had some bad failures in other races. And also hasn't got a good pace. Neither has Red Bull the power and mclaren f1 team is just a joke (except for the drivers who can't do anything about this), because they are slow, have no power (due to a poor ICE and the car is unstable and failes often. So for RedBull it was the right thing to try something with Honda, because all they had with Renault is standstill. And after the split up I bet that they aren't getting the amount of data and advise from Renault that they could've gotten.
Renault bad power? I disagree, they already won races with Red Bull - that they are a few PS down, I could imagine, but it can't be that much ... Red Bull has more engine failures than other teams using that power train McLaren seems to be overrated ; they claim to have best chassis when it is clearly not the case. McLaren is no top team in components other than power train.
Blue Monkey the output of the electric engines are limited, so redbull is behind in the ICE. Mercedes might have 50% of thermal efficiency and ferrari also is quite up to date in terms of power. But as you see in the Renault team (wich obviously always gets the newest updates) they can't do the pace of Haas. And that's definitely not due to the drivers. I do not say that they are the worst, but surprisingly Renault is kind of behind in the front with RedBull for years and with their own team at least this year. And I think it's not about winning some races for RedBull but about winning the championship. Before the turbo era Renault was Face to Face with the others, but since 2014 things have come closer, but it's not comparable. They are not bad and are getting better, but they haven't accomplished that much with 4 years of development. Ferrari was bad up until 2016 also, but they have made progress and I think that is what RedBull is missing with Renault. And the deals with Honda is really good in terms of money and support for the team. It'll be exciting next year. And mclaren had a really good chassis, but it os the same with Renault as it was with Honda. The packaging is to narrow thus leading to overheating, wich we saw in the tests. So they had to change. The problem is that they were developing the chassis without the engine. So it's not working together with Renault rather than against. But this could get better for next year when RedBull, Toro Rosso and McLaren will have enough time to develop theor cars with their engine manufacturers. I believe that it will get really close on the top.
Alex Clark-Thompson The 5 secs penalty would apply to a normal race situation like Raikkonen's case in Baku. Hamilton's infringement was under SC period reduced speeds, no danger to other drivers and he gained no advantage. Reprimand is what he got.
Another boring race turned on its head by teams being thrown onto different strategies, that is what F1 needs ... I think at 1 point in that race we had all 5 tyre compounds on the track at the same time 🤣 No refueling and the tyres rules just means all the top teams run the same basic strategy
I think they should get rid of the rule that forces teams to pit at least once, the more strategies that are available to choose and the less clear they are on each the better it is for the fans.
Many drivers have done this type of move and received penalties. If they wanted they could have given him a "bogus" time penalty to put him back to second (but not behind Raikkonen). At least it would be some measure of consistency. I'm afraid it all just shows that in F1 it matters more who you are than what you do as far as rule infringements go. If Ericcson or Sainz or even Mad Max had done it, you can bet the FIA would have penalized them. Just disgraceful. Is it even a sport anymore when Ferrari and Mercedes drives do not have to obey the rules and all others do?
Can we take the confusion on the team radio as another cause of Lewis cut that pit lane? I think that's even much more dangerous if Lewis hesitated one second. I think the Nurburgring 2007 was more like an aquaplane stuff, but FIA back then was still hard on the drivers.
To be honest, If FIA was still as cruel as they were, we will never see the likes of Ericsson, Stroll, Sirotkin, even Maldonado on the grid longer than a season. Still there are some measures taken by FIA nowadays, understandings to be exact
Pause at 4:38 and look at the timing screen, and bear in mind that Ham was closing by 1-2 secs a lap at that stage. Then realise that regardless Vet, Raik and Bott were most likely going to have to pit for the Ultra's at least. Hamilton came back from 14th and 26secs behind - amazing drive by him. Vettel was having to push, too hard it turns out.
Timo the Lindroos you didn't listen to the commentary well... Kimi was ordered to let vettel get past him because Vettel's tyres had been worn out coz of too many laps and thermal degradation due to lockup ... This same thing was repeated back to Kimi on his radio and then he got frustrated and told his engineer to give clear command...
TheSearchingTruth yeah... That order was given in the end when Kimi got tok frustrated... It isn't shown here in full but you should look it up and then comment here... Keep the excuses to yourself coz I ain't making one, like you
Justin Schönberg Different tracks have different pit lane entry rules. Simple as. Another website analysed the last 22 pit lane entry violations, a reprimand in this case was pretty consistent with past judgements.
During the Baku race, it was specified that crossing the line would be punishable because of the layout of the pitlane on that specific race, it was not conciderd punishable on Hockeinheimring. As for general rules, it's punishable if you cross the line while entering the pitlane, there's no rule against crossing the line while leaving the pitlane entry. So Lewis did not break any rules and was therefore not punished, as it should be.

Bears Beets No he wouldn't.. Even if it started rainning properly, the inters would be much faster than full wets. The track must already be wet for the wets to be considered as a choise, which means it has to rain a lot and it has to rain for a long time, which obviously wasn't the case.

Hamilton didn’t ask for it

I feel bad for Leclerc, Alonso and Gasly who get screwed by their team... ... ... They finish after Vandoorme, that's how bad it is ...
Vandoorme can say to Alonso : "No need to rush, you need to pit on point" !
''screwed by the team''. I think that in the end that it comes down to the driver who makes the call to switch to inters and not the team, cause the driver is out there, feels the track condition. If the driver isn't making that call then i'd say it is a short-coming on the drivers end. They should have the balls to say ''its too early. i'll stay out for another lap or 2''

they didn't let bottas overtake Hamilton cuz remember what happened with Verstappen and Riccardo? the team made sure no driver would take each other out, therefore throwing out valuable points out of the window for no reason.

Team orders everywhere, two great Finnish drivers, Kimi and Valteri, are #2 slaves in F1.
yea unfortunately the top 2 teams are too close in points that many team order is coming in the future to protect manufacturer points. If it is 2015-17 then Merc will let driver race and wreck or do whatever.
If I'm not mistaken teamorders are outlawed since what, 2003? 2004?
Any case, I don't remember teamorders to be allowed again.

It's actually the other way around, wtf are you talking about? 😂
Look at all the comments about Mercedes' team order but not a single one about Ferrari's.
Man, for us here in Brazil, that team order back in 2002 to Rubens let Schumacher pass for P1 was really sad.
I had 2002 flashbacks and was that mad! Bottas fucking deserved that.
Seeing Leclerc’s crash in the French GP this year reminded me of this……same vibes.
Valtteri’s win, handed to Lewis. Luckily for Mercedes, Valtteri is a team player.
@Colin Lengyel You're so right
Colin Lengyel How was it handed? He wasn’t first, unlike Kimi who did have to give his position away on orders
The Truth Lewis is champion on his own merit. I disdain stifling competition at any point. Makes perfect sense why Mercedes gave the order.
TheAnriii I agree with you. Ferrari have always been this way...
Luckily for Ferrari fans Kimi doesn't give a fuck or else vettel would be behind
Red Bull can't get a break it seems. When Max wins or get's a podium, Ricciardo's car bites the dust, or vice versa. Can't wait till they get rid of the Renault engines.
And hello to Honda engines :D
Red Bull has more engine failures than other teams using that power train
McLaren seems to be overrated ; they claim to have best chassis when it is clearly not the case.
FIA have just made even bigger problems for themselves now haven't they. The inconsistenties are unbelievable.
Alex Clark-Thompson The 5 secs penalty would apply to a normal race situation like Raikkonen's case in Baku. Hamilton's infringement was under SC period reduced speeds, no danger to other drivers and he gained no advantage. Reprimand is what he got.
Was a safety car and no advantage for Hamilton!
You is a dumbass? No rule infringement.

Another boring race turned on its head by teams being thrown onto different strategies, that is what F1 needs ... I think at 1 point in that race we had all 5 tyre compounds on the track at the same time 🤣

Dave McKeegan
all caused by the great F1 neutralizer, RAIN.

WTF!! Hammie didn't get a penalty?? Raikkonen was getting a penalty in Nurnburgering 2007 for the same action.
Nurnburgering? wtf is that? lmao
Atje i hear differen't tracks have different pitlane rules, it was discussed a few comments up👆

Kimi got a 5 seconds penalty at the Europe Grand Prix of 2016 for cutting the pit lane.....
Let's say Lewis Hamiltion "Bonus"..... not cool Charlie
Kjelle he did break the rules. They simply decided a reprimand was sufficient and no penalty necessary.
