    It's a war of attrition (each race and the season). Hamilton understands this, and Vettel apparently doesn't. Vettel knew he had one of the 3 fastest cars, and should have just allowed Hamilton to overtake.. living to fight another lap. Lose the battle / win the war.

    • @riolu0037

      M8 if you really are a Vettel fan, touché. It’s rare nowadays to find objective persons. In my opinion if Ferrari wants to do something serious, the Scuderia got the car, but as you said, Vettel doesn’t have the coolness anymore. So, with all the possible respect, I think that the Scuderia need to change pilots. Again good work in the correct and clear analysis 👍

    • @Rui-wb4hu

      Not really sure about changing drivers. Vettel still delivers but he makes so many little mistakes that cost precious points. (And Ferrari aswell because their strategy has been a rollercoaster this whole season, and today it reached its bottom once again with Kimi's pitstop).
      Vettel just needs to keep things clean. Why trying to overtake Kimi in the first lap??? It's his fking teammate and he still had 53 more laps and countless times to do that.
      It would be wiser to just defend from Hamilton and play safe. Hamilton has been way more consistent the whole season. He doesn't make silly mistakes like Seb has been making because he plays safely.
      From a Vettel and Ferrari fan aswell, right now I think Hamilton just deserves the advantage he has and if he wins the title, it is well deserved because lf his consistency.

    • @valle3452
      @valle3452 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ferrari really will need a guy like Alonso (not FA, but someone like him with top-notch race craft) if they plan on winning a WC again. Vettel has left way too many points out there due to his constant mistakes. I'd love to see Ferrari win it this year, they seem to have all the hardware to do so but their #1 driver is not consistent enough.

    • @giannistsoukatos4205
      @giannistsoukatos4205 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Vettel won 4 consecutive world championships because he had the best car and the best engine at the time by far(red bull).The engine could not have any changes or improvements on it for 4 years. This is the main reason for him winning the 4 consecutive championships, not his ability as a driver, but the huge advantage red bull had over their opposition.If Ricardo was on that situation he would have 4 championships by now. Everybody talks about Vettel being a 4 time champion, but all of these people fail to see the fact that the red bull car was far superior to the opposing teams cars, in fact so much better that Mercedes never had such a superior car exept for only one year in the last 4.Ferrari has the better car on the grid not just this year, but also last year.It is not Mercedes that makes the difference, it is Hamilton that makes the difference.

    I have been wondering how Vettel ended up spining and not Lewis until i examined the highlights in this video. Turns out it wasnt just bad luck but Hamiltons cat like instincts that saved his car and hurt Vettels race. If you look at the 0:55 and 0:34 ; you will notice that at 0.55 Vettel hits Lewis Hamilton which makes him spin for a millisecond however uses Lewis corrects that spin by using unbelievably fast skills as shown in 0:34 however his correction causes his Mercedes to hit Vettels car which instead causes Vettel to spin. Now im sure that the FIA also noticed this and I think it was fair for them to call this a racing incident even though Lewis might have caused Vettel to spin. I think Lewis cannot be blamed for correcting Vettels mistake

    Bottas did what he did for team. He knew he wasn't quicker enough plus on different strategy to kimi and Lewis. If bottas qualified on pole it would be different. Hes only a wingman cuz he put himself in that position. Hamilton is just the quicker driver in qualifying to put himself in better position to win races. Problem with Ferrari is kimi and Vettel are close so they dog it out in the race. Team will always lose out.

      goodiesify Bottas didn't put himself in that position, Mercedes put him there. He was still title contender and as fast as Lewis until they destroyed his confidence with moves at Silverstone and Germany. Mental strength in sports is extremely important and they fucked him up big time this year. Now obviously he is used as Hamilton's wingman and correctly but at the time he was made into wingman he was as quick as Lewis

      Verstappen's ability to cause mayhem and the track and invariably respond in a tone of shocked and wounded outrage is one of my favourite aspects of contemporary F1 racing. I'. sure that Schumacher would have been much more widely loved had he adopted the same tactic; for example, who could not have stifled and emolliated their outrage with guffaws and the reflection that "Oh that Mikey, he's such a card" had he, upon smashing Damon Hill off the track in his desperate attempt to sabotage the latter's inevitable race (thus title) win, immediately responded with _"What do you mean? He couldve won 2017. He could win 2018, since the Ferrari seems to be better than the Mercedes. This might just be me beeing a Vettel fan but let me ask sth.
      I know that Lewis has to try everything to beat Seb, but i think Lewis was overtaking Vettel at a very bad/ unusual spot for overtaking. I mean its a pretty damn tight corner where you shouldnt be going two wide in general.
      Lewis should have been more pacient with overtaking, not trying it in such a bad spot. I mean from Lewis Point of view you gotta say that he can be very lucky to not have damaged his front wing or bargebords or whatever aero device.
      Beiing so risky couldve made both of them loose. If Lewis was Verstappen ( Or Maldonado ) everybody would now be mad at him. But since hes Lewis nobody is talking about that HAM was taking an unecesarry risk including me.
      It was a racing accident, so nobody of them is to be blamed, but it was unecessary of Lewis from my Point of view.
      But you gotta say Lewis is one amazing driver who is very consistant compared to VET.

    my opinion about the race (coming from a finnish kimi fan)
    The lap 1 incident between Vettel and Hamilton was Vettels fault, but since he got the worst no penalty needed.
    Mercedes simply outclassed Ferrari tactically. "The fake pit stops" and the pressure by Hamilton made Ferrari make an mistake by bringing Kimi to pit too early and the second big mistake by Ferrari came when they told Kimi to push as much as possible after the pitstop and merc just waited for kimi to burn his tires and then decided to use Bottas as a plug (which is quite common in F1 for decades now) It's not Bottas fault it was literally an order from his team to keep Kimi behind him.
    And all these comes down to = Kimi had no chance to win honestly which really hurt me, but Mercedes was the better team this sunday and this was the best race of the year for me personally. #Kimi1MoreYear

    I see this to be a tendency that Ferrari keeps losing only because of disastrous strategy.
    This race is a perfect example. Kimi kept Hamilton in ~1 second behind this whole time very confidently.
    It was only lap 22, when supersoft's are expected to last up to 30 laps. Yet it was enough for Mercedes to bluff a pit, and Ferrari immediately bites. LAP 22! No sign of danger from Mercedes, the gap is constant. For me it looks like childish naivety of Ferrari to be tricked like that. Like they have no own strategy or confidence or whatsoever.
    And here you go: Hamilton pits 8 laps later for softs and pushes the shit out of them, when Kimi's tyres are already giving up.
    That was a very disappointing of Ferrari.

    • @TheManagerDuck
      @TheManagerDuck 6 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Bottas did his job, that's for sure. Why i think Kimi lost when pitted early is because we all know Ferrari's are superb at speed circuits. Even if he pits lap later after Ham and ends up behind, i believe having same tyre age, but stronger car would give him a high chance getting and overtaking Ham. Well, at least the chances would be higher, than trying to hold Ham for 25 laps with fucked up tyre's.

      The problem wasnt when Raikkonen pitted, the problem was that it was 2 vs 1 in terms of driver per team. If Raikkonen pitted later, he still would have ended up behind Bottas and would have been blocked. Also, the fact Ferrari did no testing on softs made them think that 30 laps on them would have been fine to get to the end, despite that clearly not being the case.

    Let’s clear a few things up.
    1:The Hamilton Vettel incident wasn’t Hamilton’s fault. Vettel has enough space to avoid it.
    2:Kimi’s left rear tyre was done. He blistered it when trying to avoid a Hamilton undercut. Hamilton would overtake eventually.
    3:Bottas while helping Hamilton by holding Kimi he did it for a 2nd reason, by staying out long he had little degradation to worry about in his fight with Max.
    4: Ferrari bottled the strategy AGAIN. They pitted Kimi too early and because of that he had to go for 20 laps with a blistered left rear.

      Aren't dummy pit stops forbidden? Merc did it like 3 laps in a row leading Ferrari to assume Hamilton would just push one or two laps then pit which forced Kimi to push for track position and kill his tires.
      I did a very quick search and Mercedes has already gotten a wrist slap or two for doing this... Why even bother having that rule?
      Quote of Charlie I found on the ESPN website about Mercedes admitting to do a dummy pit stop in Hungary 2015:
      "Going into the pit lane like this, ie, for no valid reason, is not allowed but the difficulty would be proving it was a clear breach," he told the BBC. "I will talk to all the teams - at the next race in Hungary - about this and warn them that we will want to see and hear evidence that they were actually intending to stop."

      I think blaming it on lack of team orders is disingenuous; Kimi has enough experience to know that it's foolhardy taking risks on the first corner of a race where the race cannot be won but can certainly be lost. That it was his own teammate that he was engaged with makes it even more egregious, common sense was needed, not team orders.

    Honestly, unpopular opinion but props to Bottas. He does the job of no.2 driver superbly, and doesn't question team orders. At the end of the day Formula One is a team sport and Bottas is a credit to Mercedes. Same of course can be said for Raikkonen and Ferrari. I will say this though, even though I do root for Hamilton, I do wish Kimi had won here today. Would have been nice to see the Iceman get one final win.

    I am a big Vettel fan since 10years now but as you can see he makes to many mistakes to can compete with Hamilton because he's doing almost everything right and was lucky this year too like in Baku with his last minute victory or the rain in Hungary and Belgium, where he wouldn't get pole if it hasn't rained)

      I get what you're saying but I gotta disagree on the significance, every championship win has "ifs" for the winner and the loser (except for maybe 2 of Schumi's, hehe). Kimi also made mistakes that year but he also drive from the back twice that salvaged his title. I honestly would have loved Lewis to win that championship too cause he was a rookie. Alonso, Lewis and Kimi made mistakes that could've changed the championship but when it came down to the final race both had issues and Kimi performed. I just hope we'll see championship level Kimi one more time before he retires.
