You can only pit if you are in position to do so, where you are on the track at the moment SC is released plays huge part in pit strategy working or not, if you are in position to pit without loosing position then you can but if you are passing pit entry at the moment when SC is coming out on track then you might loose out big. Driver skill is a different story but still it takes some luck, for example Leclerc crash out was really unlucky, like Brundle said he just got slight kick of oversteer in worst place possible and then there was nothing he could have done, Max for example had his moment in much more forgiving place where there was no gravel or barrier or skating ring how they called run of area in last two corners. Same Hamilton, he lost out most on his pit stop after he crashed, if that happened several corners earlier he might have come to pits for crew already waiting for him, instead team wasn't ready, they were confused about tyres and additionally Lewis crashed out in such place he had to go into pits cutting through the grass and got penalty which again dropped him further down on next SC when everyone was bunched up and most cars pitted.

They're finally learning
Loved that Leclerc didn't get a penalty for team's fault of an unsafe release.
I'm not sure how Hamilton's penalty is the right decision? Surely driving a full lap with a broken front wing would have been more dangerous?
Didn't they hand out time penalties earlier for unsafe releases? Not very consistent. Having said that, i like this penalty better. Hope this is the new standard for situations like these..

Confirmed, F1 should install sprinklers to wet tracks a few minutes if races are not going well.

@Gabriel Or inverting the finishing order of a previous race to form grid order of the next one. Japan 2005 comes to mind.
Well, Bernie proposed that and it's considered one of the weirdest decisions in Formula 1. It's just too artificial but damn wet races are goooooood
