Say what you want, but Rod Evans was a great singer.

Jimi Hendrix is there watching this. After the show he goes back stage and taunts Clapton on how well the lads, especially that Blackmore fella is going over. After 3 shows in the support slot Cream kicks Deep Purple off the tour. Imagine Hendrix was watching Purple do Hey Joe.

Hendrix was at this Concert. Jimmy saw Deep Purple in one of the 3 Concerts that Purple warmed up Cream on their Farewell Tour. Hendrix went into the Dressing Room and said you just blew Cream away. Purple went and partied at Jimmy's House that Sharon Tate was murdered by the Helter Skelter Gang. Jimmy told Jon Lord that you have is special. Ritchie was nicknamed Mr. Speed. Ritchie was the Original Speed Guitarist and Shredder. Jon Jammed two nights with Hendrix in New York with Dave Mason, Buddy Miles and I can't remember the other guy that played with them those two nights. Jimmy loved Lord's Hammond Skills.

Blackmore was vastly superior to Clapton. I knew he was a better player, but did not expect him to be this much better so young.

Listen to Ritchie experimenting with jazzy, outside scales on Wring that Neck ... The man was a phenomenal guitarist, way ahead of his time.

Brian May and Pete Townshend have both stated that Blackmore was doing those things in England before Hendrix made his way over. And Carlo Little stated that Blackmore, playing in Lord Sutch’s band at age 15, was one of the guys all the musicians would come to see.

Sounds pretty heavy for 1968. Ian Paice is a beast.

Man Rod Evans vocals are freakin' awesome on Hey Joe. No wonder Cream kicked them off the tour as the whole band sounded amazing.

Blackmore sets himself apart from other young guitarist with his unique sound and style a true leader and not a follower

Rod Evans is amazing! First Captain Beyond LP is still unmatched!

  • @davidsobrevilla242

Thank you for the restoring! Great bass lines and backing vocals by Nick Simper. Rod Evans had his chops too. All the band was on fire.

Rod Evans' vocals are vicious, especially on Kentucky Woman. Mk.1 and Mk.3 are the most similar versions of Deep Purple. Whoever restored the video did a great job. You can hear more bass here too. Bravo!

Lots of obvious Vanilla Fudge and the Nice influences on show here. Ritchie always said the band liked Vanilla Fudge way of going about things more than anything at the time. Great concert, thanks for the upload. Ain't TH-cam just great.

Man, that would have been a concert to go to. Ritchie Blackmore and Eric Clapton on the same stage in the same night😁😁👏👏
