    The "hey, Carrie Anne" harmony Graham Nash sings in the intro is amazing. I've not heard many groups with singers as talented as him. 0:33

      ..Totally agree/concur with you there!! Those guys,were born to sing together like that in that 65-67 era! This was popular right after "On A Carousel, May/June 1967, as we relocated to Arizona from NY. Again, what a group!!

      ..There will never be another Manchester-based great group like the mid-60's Hollies, with Nash, Clark, Hicks, backed by great drumming via Bob Elliott and good bass-playing by either Eric Haydock or Bernie Calvert!! What a group! Wished I could've seen this incarnation in concert!!

      @@lilajagears8317 Great songs indeed, but not really due to Terry Sylvester's contribution. That being said, I think he ably filled Graham's shoes w the high harmonies during his tenure w the band.

    Song was written by Graham Nash about Marianne Faithfull who had had a short fling with band member Allen Clarke. He changed the name title to not be so obvious; I first heard this lovely catchy tune in grade school and fell in love with it…

    • @NoOne-kr4jc
      @NoOne-kr4jc 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I admire the band for sure. The vocals are what made the band. I think The Who were the best musicians. I'll tell you why. The band was innovating a different way of playing. Moon would have his drum parts going all over, Entwistle later on would improvise almost lead guitar riffs vs. bass. Pete Townshend had to show the audience where the beat in everything was, by slamming on those chords. I can't think of another band structured like that for that period of time. Townshend was quite a smart musician, smart enough to play the way and songwrite the way he did.

      Yea … the "high" life in Laurel Canyon. He said he went there because he felt "right-at-home". OMG. I bet he felt right at home in the arms of a certain lady that he wrote a song about their living arrangements. He should have stayed with the, The Hollies. True Crosby, Stills, and Nash (and then Young) were an incredible group and made an indelible mark on the music scene but I feel the Hollies were the same. Terry Sylvester was good but let's be hones he wasn't no Graham Nash.

    Graham Nash seems to be exceedingly, errrm, of altered consciousness during this Croatian live TV gig; early '68, I'd venture speedballs (50/50 mix Heroin/Cocaine) and his customary weed, especially as he appears to have forgotten half of his verse, and the symptoms (that strange behaviour, very different to Dave Crosby's obvious cocaine-fuelled performances during the 60s, 70s and 80s - he had to do rehab so many times, often Court-ordered -) of such a mixture of drugs are pretty obvious if you know what you're looking for! One thing about Mr Nash though is that his high tenor rarely, if ever wavered, no matter in what condition he would take to the stage. Sublime voice and his 3-part vocal harmony arrangements, originally with Tony Hicks, then the Masters of the Byrds and Buffalo Springfield, never ceased to improve. Check his solo album 'Songs for Beginners', which he had been wanting to do since even before the Hollies hit the big-time; you can hear a decade's worth of influences and writing practice in almost every song, and that lush third verse of 'Wounded Bird' hit every spot he'd been working to hit up until then. Anyone know for sure what his 'poison' was at this time (I think this was recorded in Feb 1968)?
