Started tying flies twelve months ago and watching the master at work has taught me so much. You're instruction and method have been a priceless resource and for that I will always be grateful, thank you Davie.
Outstanding Davie! Thirteen minutes and ten seconds of pure joy watching and listening to you tye that beautiful spey! It looks like a fine arts painting Davie, you're a true artist as well as an excellent teacher. Thank you!
Hello Davie I’m an 11 year old and started fly tying today and I’ve tied 11 flies today but they no good but now I’m watching these and now I’m exited to wake up tomorrow and tie a fly like this
Beautiful fly Davie, will have to try tying one, lovely colours and shape which should give a lot of movement in the water. Superbly tied from the master! All the best Davie!
What a pattern!!!! Stunning, those blue peacock neck feathers really top it off. Quite possibly one of the nicest patterns I've seen. Thanks for sharing the techniques Davie. 👍
Hi Davie, you knocked it out of the park with this fly. I especially like the prominent and creative use of your special Sunburst for the long hackle. This color shows up on this fly strikingly. Sensational! I have a challenge for you, should your like, I think you may care for the pattern. I am looking at another Pacific Northwest pattern that has become a classic: that is my friend Dec Hogan's Skagit Mist. Chris Mann does a good summary in his encyclopedia of patterns but the best instructions come from Dec himself in "A Passion for Steelhead" (I can mail you a copy if you would like one). The challenge is for you to tye this pattern using your hot orange sunburst hackle instead of red and perhaps a neon red ostrich butt in lieu of purple. I picture the white spey style wing with a stripe of sunburst wing married into the middle of the white field. Recall the awesome video you did of the Parmachene Belle. Can you do it again for the Skagit Mist but as your own variant using sunburst (I know you are fond of sunburst, that findness has rubbed off on myself). All the very best Davie. Keep up the best tying demonstration videos on the web.
As usual Davie I'm watching as reference before I tie one I don't have any yellow Spey hackles, I do have a few large yellow silver pheasant that might work for now 🤔👍
Hi,Davie thanks for showing the tying of this fly I hope to tie some shortly, but I'm curious to see if you tie any other salmon flies using the blue peacock feathers wether they be spey or normal salmon or sea trout flies and does this fly work well on a double hook thankyou in advance

what an amazing colour combination and that wing just sets it off beautifully, I 'll need to get some blue neck feathers would you have a good source for them ? thanks for these beautiful flies and instructions on tying them, my tying has come on leaps and bounds since i got hooked on your videos my materials have increased significantly but there is always something else I need to get and I hope there always will be . all the best davie .
Hi George B, I bought the neck feathers from Veniards in a bulk pack so that I could tye a range of sizes but there are many other companies that sell these feather like Cookshill and they do bulk packs too as far as I believe. I'm glad you liked the fly and I'm sure you will enjoy tying and fishing it... All the very best Davie
davie , first off i want thank you for your wonderful videos . a superb teaching tool for hackers like me . my wi-fi bill is suffering ! , but my tying is improving . you're the best . i tied up a couple of peacock speys , what a beautiful fly . the first one i set the wing w/o too much trouble , that was obviously beginners luck . now i can't seem to get the peacock neck feather to sit right . it always rolls one way or another . i hate to lose , so my question is , any tips to help solve my dilemma ? happy holidays to you and yours ! thanks , jim
Hi etciarke, I have to be honest I don't tye a lot of pike flies so I have limited materials though if do come across some of the tails I'll certainly think about one, I do need to add one or two of these flies to my list of videos... All the very best Davie
Hi Paul, I was fortunate to be given one from a friend when I was working with a fly tying company a few years ago, I thought at the time I could get more but I've not came across another...I'm glad you like the fly... All the very best Davie...
Do you dye the pheasant yourself? If so how do you go about bleaching prior to dyeing. I have a complete blue eared skin and need to turn it into a range of colors. Thanks for any info you can provide. Doug
Hi Doug, I don't bleach the feathers as I have a White Eared Pheasant which I do dye like the sunburst. I also have some Blue Eared Pheasant though I use it in it's natural colour and as well I dye it Black.. All the very best Davie..
wonderful fly! Where can you get the peacock neck? I have never seen it before and I usually have all the materials you tie with and that says quite a bit... ;)
