I've heard from old timers growing up that Syd would tie flies for kids in class and was a great teacher. lucky kids . amazing how smooth you did that. when I perfect tying traditional , that's all I'm going to fish until my heart stops. thanks for these videos Davie!
Davie... You once said that you had thought about publishing a book. Please. I think that it would be amazing. It is so difficult to remember the step by step instructions from your videos. It would be so helpful to myself and so many of my '' brothers '' in Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing. Thank you for your wonderful videos.
Once again, you've shown me a few useful construction techniques which will improve my fishing flies. Thank you for the time and effort you put into these videos. I am grateful for your effort. Thank you... (gorgeous fly, by the way)
Thank you for showing/teaching us so much about thing flies. There are so very many things to learn. I have written before and mentioned that I am still new to fly tying/fishing. The spey flies for salmon and steelhead are beautiful. I was wondering if trout would be attracted to a smaller version. If so, perhaps you could demonstrate in one of your videos. I am a disabled veteran and cannot do the thing that I once could. But I can sit and tie, and I can stand in a stream and fish. These activities have brought me, and many fellow veterans much pleasure, thanks to Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing. And your videos have inspired me to continue. Thank you so much.
Tied a couple of those for this season. A great alternative to the whole tube-fly-flash hype nowadays. Mine will be trying to catch some early salmon in river Orkla 1 june 👍
been tying my own for a bit now scandi style got some tasty stuff not for sale or reperduction and I got it all frome watching davie and stuart tripinay and I don't by frome tackle shops that's material I mean
Beautiful fly there mate. Just wondering if it would look good on a double low water hook. Say a size 5or 3? Thanks for sharing my friend. Best Regards Ken
Hi Ken, I've tyed them down to a size 8 but never on a double though I'm sure they would easily fish well on a double..I'm glad you like it and thanks again for the kind words.... All the very best Davie
Great and easy fly. Gonna have to try that sucker. QUESTION if I don't have the orange whats another good color. Like I have green, yellow with black stripes. What other color in your opinion works well?
Hi rebels yell, Any of the colours you mentioned would be good enough to use on this style of fly as well as brown, red, blue and purple but it's also worth using two colours together..It is a great fly to tye... All the very best Davie..
@@DavieMcPhail hi davie, im sorry I think my account was hacked bc I never replied..but I loved the video. but thank you for your input. I really like that fly you tied! Mite have to try it. Thanks
@@DavieMcPhail I did reply once about the great work you did but its showing me saying some guy did better with other colors or something so I apologize for that. Either way great work
Hi TheDmburnham, It's a Turle Knot, I have attached a video for you to see how it's tied.. All the very best Davie th-cam.com/video/F9Kqqo9-Kro/w-d-xo.html
I love the fly. If you don't mind me asking, where do yo get your blue eared pheasant? Being in America, exotic birds like the pheasant are hard to come by.
Hi Eric, I bought the feathers I had from America when I was over around 2003 from a small shop in Pawling NW..I have attached a link to a website that sells them for you to see in your country.. www.caddisflyshop.com/blue-eared-pheasant-feathers.html All the very best Davie
Eric and Davie, hi. First Davie, this is another of your great, high quality, and very instructive videos -- thank you. I live in Washington (state), and am familiar with spey fly tying and the difficulty of getting good B.E. pheasant feathers. While there is nothing wrong with the CaddisFly shop and their supplies, I've found that for BE and for other "exotic" feathers, a shop in Port Angeles, WA - Waters West has always had very high quality material. Their net address is waterswest.com. If you live in the area, or are coming to the Olympic Peninsula (say for winter steelhead) I'd stop by the shop; their feather and full skin merchandise are truly incredible to see, and the staff is great as well. I don't have any affiliation with either shop. Davie thanks for all of your hard work.
Hi Raptorz Fishing, I use Veniards Prepared Fly Tyers wax which is very similar to the cobblers wax as it does much the same, protecting the thread as well as giving it more strength and grip..I have attached a link to a video I made about it and how I use it on the side of my finger.. th-cam.com/video/IN4N92G14Xg/w-d-xo.html All the very best Davie

You were very meticulous with this fly.I like to tie the rear hackle in butt 1st, to create a prawn shape. Spey/General Practioner types.
